Forward
If you want my honest opinion about Kara Zor El, AKA Supergirl, I honestly prefer her using the last name Kent over Danvers. I like it more when Kara is raised by Clark's parents Jonathan and Martha as it gives more of a family connection between her and Clark, but that's just my opinion. When it comes to writing DC stories that are out of the main continuity, we as writers have an opportunity to tell different stories and give different background developments for characters that we've known for years. I do find it interesting what DC is doing with their Absolute series. I know some comic snobs might call it a rip off of Ultimate Marvel, but it wouldn't be the first time DC tried something similar to Ultimate Marvel. DC All-Star, anyone? But I digress. With Kara being raised by the Danvers family and adapting their surname, it's given me an opportunity to tell some interesting stories, even if the Danvers themselves aren't explicitly seen in the story. I like this idea of Kara and the Danvers family living in Kevin's childhood city Bellevue and that they were next door neighbors.
The idea of Kara saving Kevin from a school shooter was something that had been on my mind for a while, so I guess you could say this was something I wanted to do, as also a commentary on school shootings. This is basically the second time I've used a school shooting idea in a DC fan fiction. Sounds dark, but it is DC. Also, I thought it would be interesting to write a story where Damian was raised alongside Andrea and Kevin with Kevin being a big brother in his life as the little kid experiences a normal childhood instead of being an assassin. One more thing I want to clarify, this story takes place in 2015, which was my senior year in high school. Figured it would be interesting to write Kevin and Kara around my age during that year, which means they would be 18 going on 19. I'm just glad I was able to get this idea through and I hope you all like it.
