"hey, soobin?" june tried gently when she reached the restroom yoshi said their friend locked himself in. "can i come in?"

it was silent for a long time. june and yoshi shared a look and the girl was about to knock again when she heard the lock click. after a brief moment, she reached out to twist the knob and see if she'd been correct.

it opened.

juniper released a quiet breath of relief and slowly stepped into the restroom, making sure to close the door behind her. soobin had his back pressed against the tile wall, his knees to his chest, and his head buried in his arms. the sight broke june's heart. it always did.

"hey," she soothed softly, slowly going to sit next to her hyperventilating friend. "hey, i'm here. i've got you, you're okay now." she hardly had time to offer her hand to him before soobin grab her arm, squeezing it as tightly as he gripped his chest and pinched his eyes.

"breathe." she instructed, keeping a steady voice. "i'm not going anywhere."

it took a little while, but soobin didn't let go of june's arm until his breath came out normally. the girl offered him a smile and gently moved some of his damp hair out of his eyes.

"tell me when you're ready. i'm here."

once soobin stopped shaking, he moved his grip from juniper's forearm to her hand and she let him hold it as he began to speak. "i-i was just trying to order a drink. that's a-all. and th-then these... guys came up and started m-mocking me a-and laughing when i s-st—" he gave up, but june knew what he was trying to say.

she watched as he roughly wiped the moisture from his eyes and sniffled. "it's not fair..."

before he could hide his face in his hands, juniper reached forward and brought the boy's head to her chest, running her fingers through his hair and doing her best to comfort him. it was harder than usual, though, and she tried to keep an even voice as she said, "tell me what they looked like."

it took a bit of convincing, but once juniper had the descriptions and she knew soobin was alright, she helped him stand and opened the restroom door. "stay with him," she told yoshi, who was waiting beside the door, and made her way toward the bar.

she spotted the snickering assholes right away, one in the center with a beer in his hand and a shitty smile on his lips. juniper felt her blood boiling when he began to stutter, making his friends laugh.

juniper couldn't contain the "hey!" that slipped from her chest, managing to grab all four of the guy's attention. the 'stuttering' one eyed her up and down, and june only saw red as she approached him. hyunjin must have realized by her demeanor that her intentions were not pleasant, but he had only just jumped off the stage when the firey girl suddenly flung her fist toward the guy's face.

there was a loud crack upon impact, but juniper ignored the flaring pain in her hand as she hit the asshole again, kicking him once as he went down, and elbowing his friends as they tried reaching to pull her away.

her hand was in too much pain for her to curl it back into a punching position, so she just started slapping and kicking the group of guys away. she hadn't even noticed hyunjin and the bar manager jump in to separate everyone.

"ayo, junisgems!" she heard a voice call behind her, and juniper turned to see karina and sunwoo in the doorway, the girl wearing a large smiles on her face. "dude, did we just miss a fight? aw, no!"

exhaustion pricked the backs of june's eyes but she smiled back at the odd pair. "yea—"

"all of you, get out!" the angry manager cut off, speaking to everyone besides hyunjin. june shot one last glare at the now bleeding jerk from the bar before leaving with karina and sunwoo, thankful that soobin was to busy helping yoshi to witness the fight.

karina threw an arm around the smaller's shoulder as she led her down he sidewalk. "you gotta tell us everything. why didn't you call for back up, dummy?"

june winced. "i think my hand is broken."

"amateur."
