Chapter One: I'll Come back Someday, Please Don't Cry
Chapter One: I'll Come back Someday, So Please Don't Cry
Shizune watched as her childhood friend started to cry right in front of her. She hated seeing him like this. He cried easily, so she made sure to never make him cry, but this time it was all out of her control. She was moving away for a little while and she didn't know when she would return to her friend.
"Please don't cry Yukio. I'll come back someday and then we'll be together again. So please don't cry." Shizune patted Yukio Okumura on the head, trying to calm him down.
"B-but, why do you have to go? Why can't you just stay here with me and Rin? That would be alright, right father?" Yukio looked up to the man who raised him and his older twin brother, Father Shiro Fujimoto.
"Now Yukio, you can't ask Shizune to abandon her family and stay here. Yes, the two of you would be together, but do you think she'll really be happy being so far away from the people who love her?"
"B-but I love Shizune too!!" Yukio continued to cry. He didn't want his best friend to leave him and having the thought of never being able to see her again scared him.
Seeing her friend crying uncontrollably made Shizune feel guilty about having to leave. She took out her lucky coin she always carried with her for good luck that once belonged to her mother. Shizune placed it in between her hands and whispered a little prayer before carefully placing it in Yukio's hands. Yukio suddenly stopped crying as he looked up at Shizune.
"Sh-Shizune... this is..."
"I know, but I want you to hang on to it until I return. It's always brought me some good luck. Now it will do the same for you. Keep it safe, alright?"
Yukio nodded as he wiped the remaining tears from his eyes. Shizune wrapped Yukio in one last hug and when she saw Rin walking up to them she suddenly pulled him into the hug as well. She was good friends with both Okumura brothers, but it was Yukio who she was extremely close to. While saying her last good-byes to the Okumura brothers, her father was talking with Shiro Fujimoto about the plans of their travels.
"Where is it that the two of you will be going?" Fujimoto asked.
"We're heading to Germany, the place of my lovely Hannah's birth. May she watch over us from Heaven." Shizune's father, Father Chihiro Yukimuto looked up at the sky in memory of his deceased wife.
"That's right, your wife Hannah was from Germany. The two of you met on a mission while you were there."
"Yes. Shizune will be attending school there until my job is done. Then we'll be returning here, to Japan, once my job is done. Come Shizune, it's time for us to get going ."
Shizune looked back to her father with saddened eyes. About to walk over to her father she suddenly felt something pulling at her sleeve. Yukio still didn't want Shizune to go. With a sad smile she pushed back Yukio's bangs and softly kissed his forehead. Yukio's face turned a light pink as he touched the spot where Shizune had kissed him.
"It's a good luck charm as well. That kiss will keep you safe." Shizune said with a smile before leaving with her father.
It's now been six years since Shinze and her father left Japan to go to Germany. Everyday Shizune would write a sires of letters about her life in Germany and then send them to Yukio and Rin in Japan. In which she would get letters back from the two brothers. Even though they were so far away, they always found a way to talk to each other. Suddenly, one day, the letters stopped. At first she thought that maybe it was because Yukio and Rin just became busy, but after weeks turned into months of not hearing from them Shizune started to worry.
"This isn't like them father, especially Yukio. I would maybe expect this from Rin, but Yukio wouldn't go this long without writing back to me." Shizune told her father as the two walked down the street to a local grocery store that was in the town they were staying in.
"I'm sure there's a reason Shizune. They might be busy. They should be starting High School soon right? Maybe they're getting ready for that. Anyway, I have some news for you. My work here in Germany is done, and I was thinking that it's about time for the two of us to head back to Japan. What do you think about that?" Chihiro looked over to his only child to see her eyes sparkling like tiny stars.
"Are you serious about this father?! Are we really going back to Japan!?" Shizune's eyes lit up with happiness.
"Yes. My work here is done. It's time for us to go home to Japan."
Shizune was so happy. She would finally be able to see Yukio again. After six years of only letters, back and forth, she was finally able to see him and Rin again. The two walked into the local grocery store. getting the things, they needed for their dinner. Nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary but Shizune suddenly wondered away from her father to look out the window. That's when she noticed a street dog that seemed to be acting a bit strange.
"Hey father, what do you make of that?" Shizune pointed out the window to the street dog.
Chihiro walked up to the window next to his daughter. When he saw the street dog making its way to the grocery store Shizune saw her father's body start to suddenly tremble. This wasn't like her father, to suddenly start shaking like this.
"Father... what's wrong?"
"Listen to me Shizune, escape through the back door of this place, and take this with you." Chihiro handed his daughter a cell phone. "There's only one number in it. If something happens to me, call that number. An old friend of mine and Father Fujimoto will take care of you."
"Wa-wait! What are you talking about?! what do you mean if something happens to you?!" Shizune went to grab her father's arm when he suddenly swiped it away.
"Father?"
"Do as you are told Shizune! This is not the time for you to question me right now!!"
Shizune was shocked to hear her father sound so angry at her. She quickly made her way to the back of the store. As she reached for the door handle there was a sudden crash of glass breaking and the sounds of gunshots coming from where her father was still at. Going against her father she quickly turned and ran back to the front of the store. When she came back to the front of the store she saw her father on the ground with the street dog biting on his arm.
"Father?!" Shizune yelled in horror.
"Stupid girl! Why did you come back here? I told you to get out of here!" Chihiro snapped at his daughter.
"B-but... I-I thought. Maybe I could have..."
"Don't be stupid! You're just a child who's disobeying the orders of her parent! Now go! I don't need your help! You'll just be in the way!"
Her father's sudden words pierced her to the core. He had never talked to her like that before, even when he was angry with her. Tears started to heavily form in her eyes.
"Why? Why is father talking so meanly towards me? I don't understand what's going on."
As Shizune stood in the same place after hearing such words from her father the street dog that was attacking her father turned its attention towards her. Frozen, she didn't know what to do. Just as the dog was about to lunged at her there was a sudden gun shot that rang out. The dog stopped and turned back towards Chihiro.
"C-come on... yo-you damn bastard... Bet... betcha I'm a lot tastier then she is. She's nothing more the skin and bones. But as for me... I-I've got a lot more meat on my bones."
"Father?" Shizune watched as her father struggled to his feet. Holding his arm with one hand and holding his gun with his injured arm.
"Come on pouch! Was my arm not tasty enough for you or are you just trying to make me jealous?!"
The monster seemed to be getting annoyed with Chihiro's taunts. With drool spilling from its lips the dog charged at Chihiro, once again grabbing ahold of him, this time by his leg. Basically, ripping the flesh from the bone.
Chihiro let out bloodcurdling screams of pain. Not wanting to hear her father's cries Shizune covered her ears with her hands and tightly shut her eyes. She didn't want to hear it, she didn't want to see it either, she just wanted it all to stop.
"Stop it! Stop it! I said stop it! Leave him alone!" Shizune suddenly grabbed a can and threw it at the dog. The dog turned its head, drool and blood stained the rabid dog's face. It was one of the scariest things she had ever seen before.
"Shizune... run. Don't let that thing get ahold of you. Its saliva burns the skin. Now do what I told you in the first place and get out of here!"
"I'm sorry father but I can't leave you here. Your arm and leg are burned away and this dog, it seems to be sick. I know that you try not to get me involved or worry about your work as an Exorcist. It's a dangerous job and you don't want me to worry, but you don't need to worry because I want to help. Come doggie! You don't want to chew on the old man. He's much to tough and chewy. Come on!" Shizune threw two more cans of food at the dog.
Right away the dog started to case the brave girl around the store. Knocking over shelves that held food and other things that the store sold. When Shizune passed her father laying on the ground she noticed his gun and a magazine clip a few feet next to him. Quickly she picked them both up and dove behind the counter to hide for a little while, to catch her breath.
"That thing is so fast. If it can basically melt flesh from the bone then this dog must be possessed by a demon of some sort. I need to find a way to slow it down, so I can get a clear shot. If I miss there's a good chance that this thing could get a hold of me." Shizune peaked out from behind the counter to see where the dog was. The possessed dog seemed to have disappeared out of nowhere. Quickly Shizune rushed to her bleeding father's side and pulled him behind the counter where she was hiding.
"Father, that thing is moving way to fast. I don't know what to do so I can get a clear shot."
"U-use this. It should help." Chihiro handed Shizune a strange looking container.
"What is it?"
"It's a grenade with Holy Water. Depending on how powerful this demon is... is how well the Holy Water will work... ughe... be careful Shizune or you could end up like me in the end." Chihiro tied a bandage around his arm and leg. Blood and puss right away started to spill out from the bandages. She tried to help the best she could, but it was no use, her father needed professional help.
"Forget it Shizune, nothing will help me now. Just do this last thing for me."
"What is it father?"
"Get the bastard demon for me."
Shizune nodded and took a deep breath. In one hand she had her father's gun and in the other she had the grenade of Holy Water. She'd by lying to herself if said she wasn't scared when in reality she was terrified. Her hands were shaking, and she couldn't seem to be able to control it.
"Shizune..."
Shizune looked down at her father and she could tell right away she could see the pain on his face. She crotchet down next to him to make it easier for him to speak to her.
"I-it's alright to be scared. I-I know this must be scary for you, but please be brave until the end."
Shizune nodded and stepped back out from behind the counter.
"I...I have to stay calm, so I can help father. Then we can go home to Japan and I can see Yukio and Rin again." Shizune kept telling herself that everything was going to be alright as soon as she took care of this demon. But first, she had to find it.
One by one Shizune carefully checked between every self in the small store. But with each check the demon was nowhere to be seen. Thinking that maybe the demon had left Shizune dropped her guard and went back to check on her father.
"Father, I don't see it. Maybe it left or something." She started walking back towards her father when the demon suddenly leapt out of nowhere and latched itself onto Shizune's right arm.
She let out a loud scream of pain as she felt her skin start to melt off her bones. Struggling through the pain Shizune grabbed her father's gun with her weak hand and tried to aim it at the demon that was gnawing on her arm.
"Damn it you god damn... die already!!" Shizune squeezed the trigger as hard as she could. Putting one bullet in the demon's side, forcing it to let go of her arm and hobble off to the side whimpering in pain.
Shizune stood up off the floor holding her arm with her mostly free hand and hobbled off to the whimpering beast with a look of absolute malice in her eyes. She didn't feel sorry for this creature, not one little bit.
"Go to hell you damn demon." Shizune pulled the trigger for a second time. This time getting the creature right between the eyes, Finally Shizune was able to take a breath of relief . She was safe, her father was safe.
"Father?!?" Shizune rushed to her father's side. His face was pale, and his body was slumped over like he was sleeping.
"Father! I was able to kill it. Did you see father? D...daddy... did you see what I did?" Tears started to spill from Shizune's eyes. When the tears landed where the demon had bit her a sharp pain shot through her arm. Her tears only made the pain worse, in more ways than one.
Not knowing what to do, Shizune took a seat next to her father's corpse. Trying to keep her arm from bleeding but no matter how much presser she put on her arm, it wouldn't stop. She took out the cell phone and pressed then number one on the speed dial. She heard it ring and someone pick up on the other end.
"Hello? Chihiro?"
"He-help please..."
That was the last thing Shizune remembered being able to say out loud.
"Daddy... we'll see mother soon. We'll be together again, the three of us. Just like the old days. I.... I just wish I could've seen Yukio and Rin again. I wonder what the two of them are like now."
Shizune's eyes got too heavy to keep them open. She wanted to rest. To close her eyes and get some rest. When her eyes closed it seemed like they were closed forever, but in reality they were only closed for five minutes. Shizune's eyes slowly opened when he heard several voices all around her.
"Shizune.... Shizune Yukimuto can you hear me?"
"F-father? I-is he..." Shizune tried to ask about her father but was too weak to ask completely.
"Don't worry about that. You did well in taking care of your father and that demon. Just stay still for the mean time. We need a medic over here now!!"
The voice that was talking to her reminded her of her mother, Hannah Yukimuto, who was from Germany. It gave her peace of mind. Slowly Shizune closed her eyes again but was quickly woken back up with a sudden shake.
"Keep your eyes open Shizune! You hear me!? Keep your eyes open!"
"I-I can't..." Shizune's head nodded off to the side. Allowing her to see the real damage to her arm. It looked like her arm was a bubbling mess. Yellow pus, blood and chunks of her skin were all clumped together and melted off to the point that she could see the bone.
"We need a medic here now!!"
"I got her." A familiar voice reach Shizune's ears.
"F-Father Fujimoto?"
"It's alright Shizune. I'll take care of you and then we'll take you home."
