Character Arc Summary: Cleo was a former doll who escaped slavery. Her parents sold her to slavery when she was six years old because she was blind. She was known to her rapists and other slave owners as “Cleopatra” because she seduced her rapists and killed them as a means of survival. Rather than escaping the Badlands, she wanted to prove that she could be a fighter and stayed in the Badlands to train. She wanted to be a Butterfly and looked up to the Widow as her hero.
However, this changed when she was attacked, at sixteen years old, by one of the Widow’s Butterflies who misook her for an enemy. Shortly after, a colt named M.K. rescued her and took her to a nurse named Veil, who became a mother figure to her. She also came under the mentorship of an old man named Waldo, who was one of the eldest Clippers in the Badlands. Like her, people saw him as fragile, but he could sense people before they came like she could, and he taught her how to use her blindness to her advantage.
Cleo began to spend more time around the Clippers and decided that she wanted to be one, making her the first and only female Clipper in the Badlands, and the first and only blind fighter in the Badlands. She turned her title "Cleopatra" into something positive, referring to herself as the Cleopatra of the Badlands who killed anyone who took advantage of her or another person. She made a heroic name for herself. She conducted herself much differently than the other Clippers. Killing was a last resort for her, unless she was dealing with rapists or any criminal in that department. In that case, she sought them out and brutally murdered them.
She fell in love with M.K. and they became a couple shortly after he was rescued by the Butterflies. She became an honorary sister to Veil's baby boy Henry and was often his babysitter. Reeling from the death of Veil, who was murdered by an evil Baron named Quinn, Cleo made a deal with a sorcerer to get her eyesight back in the hopes that she would feel more useful. She left the Badlands without notice and without telling M.K., but it was all for nothing. The sorcerer was actually Cleo's birth mother who had abandoned her and wanted to use her now that she was a trained fighter. Cleo returned to the Badlands and reunited with M.K., who willingly forgave her for leaving. They grew back together, but their blissful bubble of happiness was brutally destroyed when they found themselves interlocked in a battle with the Widow. During the fight, the Widow accidentally cut M.K., unleashing his gift. Unable to control his gift and unaware of what he was doing, he inadvertently attacked Cleo and left her unconscious. When he came to, he assumed that he had killed her, so he fled in devastation.
Cleo awoke days later to find out that M.K. had left a long time ago, thinking that he had killed her, and she immediately set out to find him. She only found him when it was too late, after the Widow had murdered him during a battle at Pilgrim's fortress.
Cleo met her terrible fate at her own hands. She suffered the tragic loss of both her friend Sunny and her lover M.K. during the battle at the fortress. Her close friend Lydia had died shortly before this and her only mother figure Veil was long gone. Feeling like she had nothing left to lose, Cleo stabbed herself, claiming that she was going to be reunited with Veil, M.K., Sunny, and Lydia in heaven. She lay beside M.K. and claimed that she saw the light before she died tragically on the battlefield. She and M.K. were never buried or given proper funerals, and their bodies disintegrated when the fortress exploded.

Personality and Character Analysis: Cleo was a spitfire. Due to her upbringing, she was conditioned to calculate everything that she said or did, using her meek demeanor to her advantage. Her survival tactics became engrained into her personality. When she entered the Badlands, she traded her meek demeanor for a confident and teasing one due to her surroundings, saving her meek act for desperate times. She was difficult to understand because no one really knew what she was trying to say or do unless she wanted them to, or unless they took the time to get to know her as she was. She was vulnerable only around people whom she trusted and the times when she was genuinely happy were few and far in between.
Cleo was bold with her words and brave when it came to fighting. She had no trouble saying what she wanted to say when she wanted to say it, and made sure that everyone knew that her blindness was not her weakness, but her strength. She was famous for outsmarting people in combat and physical altercations by using her other senses and being atune to her surroundings, as well as being able to hit a bullseye frequently in archery. She used to hate men due to her past experiences with them, but upon further experience, she discovered that women could be just as evil as men could, and learned to take things with a grain of salt.
She learned that she did not always have to be on the defensive and discovered a softer side to herself, regaining her innocence that had been stripped from her and discovering love in the most unexpected of places. However, her strong attachment to others led to her downfall and she found herself unable to live without her loved ones, which was her fatal flaw. She began as a strong-willed warrior and left the world as nothing but just another casualty in war.
