Yoongi
Taehyung can feel the tension between him and Jeongguk as they walk to the millenicopter, hand in hand—although it may be mostly one-sided.
The temperature outside of the building is drastically different due to the air conditioning, causing Taehyung to sweat immensely as his body temperature tries to regulate.
It doesn't bother him, he was used to this—a few hours in the air conditioning didn't undo the hours he's spent in the heat.
"I guess this is it, then," The silverette says when they reach the copter. He lets go of Jeongguk's hand, which felt impossible to him a few hours ago.
"Be careful going back," Jeongguk says.
Taehyung knows Jeongguk is just wishing him safe travels, but for some reason his words make his chest clench.
It was really goodbye.
"I didn't get the chance to say goodbye to the real Jeongguk so I really don't want to screw this up," The silverette laughs. "Will you be okay?"
"I will be," Jeongguk smiles softly. "Seokjin says that you can change your mind anytime."
"I'll let you know," Taehyung says. "Be good, okay?"
Jeongguk nods, Taehyung turning and walking towards the millenicopter.
"Taehyung?" The android calls before he climbs into the vehicle.
"Yeah?" The silverette calls back, turning to him. His expression was hopeful, as if he was expecting him to reconsider going back.
"What will I do without you?"
"Whatever you want...you're your own robot,"
Taehyung smiles softly at him before climbing into the copter, waving his hand once more before shutting the door.
"All set?" The driver asks.
"Yeah," Taehyung says, his smile long gone and his eyes focused on Jeongguk in the side mirror of the vehicle.
He feels his throat tightening as the copter starts to move and his view of Jeongguk gradually becomes more obstructed by the dust left behind by the vehicle. He doesn't cry, even though he wants to.
He just lets Jeongguk go...again.
~
The trip back is fast and soon the copter is coming to a stop.
"I got it from here," Taehyung says to the guard. "Thanks."
"Kid," The guard says stopping him before he gets out of the car. "The Kim's really want what's best for you and everyone inside or outside of the collective."
"Why are you telling me that?"
"One day you'll be glad I did,"
Taehyung narrows his eyes in confusion before climbing out of the copter. He sighs as he is met with the excruciating heat yet again.
Maybe air conditioning was a bit of an antihero.
He sets off in the direction of the outside, trying to make it back before he caught anyone's attention.
He's nearly halfway there when he gets stopped by a gruff voice calling his name.
He ignores it initially, speeding his steps up and keeping his head down.
"Kim Taehyung," The voice repeats. "Freeze, and put your hands on your head!"
Taehyung stops, lifting his head and looking over his shoulder. His stomach drops when he see four officers standing behind him holding their tasers out in front of them.
"Get on the ground, put your hands on your head," One of them yells. "Now, or we're gonna have a problem."
"What did I do?" Taehyung asks.
"Now!" The same guard shouts again, drawing the attention of others on the street.
"Okay, okay," Taehyung says holding his hands up as he slowly kneels in front of them. "Can you tell me what's going on?"
"Shut up," Another guard says, walking around him and kicking him down the rest of the way.
Taehyung groans, spitting out the dry sand that got in his mouth while the officer handcuffs him roughly. "Are you going to tell me what the fuck is going on?"
"Another word out of you and it's lights out," The first officer says. "Get him on his feet."
Taehyung waits until the officers pull him to his feet to try and put up a fight. He wasn't expecting to get out of this situation, especially being handcuffed and all.
But he'd be damned if he made these assholes' jobs easy.
He throws his shoulder into the officer on his right, kicking his leg out at the other officer but immediately regretting it when he grabs it and throws him back to the ground.
He feels the initial shock of one of their tasers but he doesn't register much as the pain causes him to black out.
"Get him up,"
"What do you think they'll do with him?"
"Maybe they'll do us all a favor and kill the idiot,"
~
"...Hyung...Tae...Taehyung?"
Taehyung shakes his head, trying to open his heavy eyes but failing.
"Taehyung?"
"Hm?"
"Wake up, Taehyung,"
The silverette manages to slowly open his eyes, his vision blurred as he tries to recognize where he was.
"Taehyung?"
Taehyung turns his head to see Jimin sitting next to him. "Jimin?"
"What'd they do to you?" The older asks, his voice echoing in Taehyung's ears.
"Where are we?" The silverette asks, rubbing his eyes until his vision clears.
He looks around and he realizes that they are in a holding cell inside the base. The floor is concrete and easily penetrated by the heat, iron bars keeping them locked inside the small room.
His head clears suddenly when he realizes where he was. "What's going on?"
"Where have you been?" Jimin asks in a whisper. "They've been looking for you."
"Who?" Taehyung asks looking at Jimin, his eyes widen when he sees the older's busted lip and swollen eye. "Oh my galaxy, Jimin~"
"Where's Jeongguk?" Jimin asks. "Was he with you when they got you?"
"No, someone from headquarters bought him from me," The younger says. "Did they do this to you because of him?"
"I don't know," The older says. "They told me they were looking for you. I told them I didn't know where you were a-and they..."
"Is your family okay?" Taehyung asks.
"Yeah, my dad begged them to take him instead so they roughed him up pretty bad," Jimin says. "My brothers are fine though, my mom too."
"Good," Taehyung nods. "Look, Jimin, you don't have to worry. Yoongi is gonna get us out of here."
"How?" Jimin asks.
"I don't know but he is," The younger says. "As soon as he finds out I'm in here he's gonna come."
"Tae...we've been in here for three days,"
"What!?"
Jimin flinches at his sudden change in tone. "I'm kidding! Oh my stars~"
"Now isn't the time," Taehyung says shoving him. "We could die in here."
"Just trying to lighten the mood," Jimin pouts. "I'm losing my mind being stuck in here."
Just as Jimin utters those words an alarm sounds, wailing loudly as if something bad is happening.
"What's happening?" Jimin asks, standing and walking over to the bars.
"I'm in here with you, how am I supposed to know," Taehyung says standing as well, he flinches as he puts pressure his right leg but he ignores the pain. "Maybe there's an emergency."
"Wait, shh," Jimin says. "Do you hear that?"
Taehyung falls silent, listening intently. He hears the faint sound of footsteps running.
"Get back," He says backing away with Jimin. "I don't know what's going on."
They stand there as the footsteps get closer and clearer. They each jump in surprise when Yoongi suddenly appears in front of the cell, sweat gleaming on his face.
"I told you!" Taehyung exclaims, pushing Jimin away and walking back towards the iron bars. "Please tell me you came to rescue us."
"I came to rescue you," Yoongi says looking at Taehyung, shifting his eyes to Jimin before continuing. "Unfortunately, Jimin, you have to stay."
"What?" Jimin asks, his eyebrows drawing together. "Why?"
"You'll be safer here tonight," Yoongi says swiping his keycard and unlocking the door. "My partner, Hoseok, he's going to come back for you, I promise."
"I don't understand," Taehyung says as Yoongi pulls him out of the cell, limping slightly as he walks.
"Yoongi, please don't leave me here," Jimin pleads when Yoongi closes the cell. "They're gonna kill me, please, Yoongi."
"I'm not leaving without him," Taehyung says looking at Yoongi in disbelief. "Why are you doing this?"
"Jimin, you have trust me, okay?" Yoongi says to Jimin. "I'd never put your life in jeopardy, you have to believe me. Do you believe me?"
"Yoongi," Jimin says with tears in his eyes.
"It's gonna make sense, I swear," The older says turning away and grabbing Taehyung by the wrist. "We have to go."
"Yoongi!" Jimin continues to call after them. "Taehyung, please don't do this."
"Yoongi," Taehyung says looking back at Jimin helplessly. "What's happening~"
Yoongi suddenly pushes him against a wall, holding his finger to his lips to tell Taehyung to be quiet.
The silverette holds his breath as the sounds of running footsteps pass them a little too closely.
"He's gone!" He hears someone call.
"Go," Yoongi mouths before shoving him forward down the hall.
The base is a huge building, most of the resources on 613 goes to funding it. So it's easy to imagine how lost Taehyung feels as Yoongi leads him down multiple hallways.
"Here," Yoongi says opening, what appeared to be, a random door and gesturing for Taehyung to enter. "Hide."
"Yoongi, what's~" Taehyung is cut off by the door closing behind him, he turns and finds Yoongi on the other side. "Hyung?"
Yoongi slides his keyboard under the crack under the door.
"What's going on?" Taehyung asks. "What are you doing?"
"You'll know what to do," Yoongi says through the door. "Hide, and don't make a sound."
"What~"
Before Taehyung can speak another word a gun sounds and Yoongi's head snaps to the side from the force of the bullet.
Taehyung covers his mouth to suppress the scream in his throat as he watches Yoongi's eyes roll to the back of his head.
He backs away from the door, grabbing the keycard from the ground before searching the room for a place to hide. He settles on a large enough cupboard against the farthest wall.
He covers his mouth to try and suppress his ragged breathing when he hears the door open.
The sound of heavy breathing and heavy boot clad feed hitting the floor fills the room.
Taehyung hides in the furthest corner of the large cupboard, almost screaming when the door opens.
The officer flashes a light, shining it directly into Taehyung's face. He makes eye contact with the guard, his eyes wide as his heart drops.
"Clear," The guard says before slamming the cupboard door shut, sparing him. "Downstairs."
The officers filter out but more people filter in.
"We have more important things to worry about right now if you haven't noticed," A woman's voice says. "What?"
"It's about next months rations," A man's voice says. "Look at the levels of toxins you have listed by the ingredients."
"What about it?" The woman asks impatiently. "Just up the poison without affecting the taste."
"If we increase it this much some will die every night,"
"They're outsiders, who cares?"
Taehyung squeezes his eyes shut to try and suppress the sob bubbling in his chest, the image of Yoongi dying branded onto the back of his eyelids.
He feels like he's going to pass out from holding his breath when the officers finally leave.
"No," He breathes out heavily, tears welling in his eyes as his chest heaves. "No, no, no, no."
"You'll know what to do,"
"Hyung...I don't know what to do,"
