12. Deaths Silver Lining.

"Knock Knock."

The guard shot straight up from his leaned back position in his old chair, the phone where he had been playing an intense game of angry birds dropped from his hand as he lifted the gun. His bag of chips long forgotten as the crumbs fell from his shirt. The black revolver shifting from side to side as he continuously looked for who had spoken. Inside the small post of his there was only one spot the noise could have came from.

The open window leading towards the dark woods.

He slowly crept near it, knowing he had a gun in his hand and was also locked inside the space.

"Who's there!" He yelled out. If it was another joke from his coworkers he was going to shoot one of them and say it was a damn joke.

There was no response, In fact, he couldn't even hear another pull of breath from outside. He crept closer to the window, waving the gun around a few times outside and looking for the culprit. There was none, not even a footprint to indicate that someone else was there. So what the hell had made that noise?

He dropped the gun, rolling his shoulders around and concluding he might have been hearing things. After all, he was alone and on the front lines, the forest was intimating as all hell when there was no one else.

"I'm going crazy. Get a grip of yourself Gary." he murmured to himself, wiping away the swat that had accumulated on his forehead in those short, tension filled, moments. Just as he went to relax once more, remind himself that he was a grown man who couldn't be afraid. He was apart of the Japanese mafia for Christ sake, admittedly low level, but still apart.

He was about to laugh at his own foolish antics, possibly shut the open window, and pick his phone back up; when his locked door widely opened.

Gary whipped around, pointing the gun right back up and taking note of his intruder. It was a pale and hazel eyed teenage boy, one who really needed a decent nights sleep.

He smiled widely at Gary who grew wary by the second. Speaking up the teenage boy uttered the most confusing words ever," dude! You were suppose to say who's there! You totally ruined the joke!"

"What the hell—" Gary went to protest and yell, possibly to question why a boy his age was out this deep into the woods.

He was stopped however, behind him from the open window, Bugs Stilinski stood. His outstretched hand twisting the knife killing Gary's heart painfully and pulling him near.

Bugs spoke directly into his ear," the punchline was Death since you know... you're dying but since you couldn't play along I had to finish the damn joke myself. Oh well, at least you got to hear the joke before you died. Bye dude!"

He yanked the knife back out, watching impatiently as Gary fell to the ground, dead as a doorknob. He jumped into the small post while his parter-in-murder kicked Gary once more.

"He's dead," Bugs said, staring at his brothers face oddly. "That's kind of what happens when you get stabbed in the heart. No need to check, stop wasting time and get the damn keys."

"You were so much quieter when you had your emotions on." The Nogitsune spoke up, crinkling his eyes at the boy who minutes ago practically cried when he was told to murder, now he casually wiped his knife on the dead mans long beard.

Bugs placed the hunting knife back in jean pocket, casually looking at the various monitors and taking note of every other guard.

He shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly, like it was the radiated job he would ever do, grabbing the dead mans chips and munching on them he responded," tough shit dude. You wanted me to turn it off well this is what you get."

The Nogitsune rolled Stiles' eyes, pulling the clip off keys from Gary's waistband and standing back up. "Time for you to show some more of your skills."

Bugs smirked, looking down at the bag of chips and then back up with an excited smile. "You think I'll finish my chips before then?"

"After entering the IP  address, you will be connected through a Darknet portal to an  untraceable bank. Once logged in, enter your account number to receive  wire transfers. The IP address will deactivate with each transfer. You  will be assigned a new IP address if you choose to continue down the  list. Remember, visual confirmation is always required for payment."

Bugs swallowed thickly as the monotones voice dragged on and explained instructions he knew, ones he was quite aware of as he had spent an entire night reading and then rereading them from his laptop until they were engraved in his brain along with the millions of thoughts of fear that went along with them. His eyes flickered between his best friends, noticing how concentrated they were on the voice and the money that was in front of them. Good, he thought, then they wouldn't notice the panic setting in his mind.

Since his talk with Deaton a few hours ago the day had taken a turn for the worst... well at least it was for Bugs. His talk had slightly relieved some weight off his shoulders knowing there was someone he was actually able to speak about his guilt with. Deaton had assured him everything would be okay, that it all would resolve itself and eventually he would be able to speak with his family members. He had left the clinic better and then he was informed of the days occurrences. Liam was taken by a vengeful Garrett looking to get Violet back. Unfortunately that didn't go as planned since both orphans had been murdered by Kate and her Beserkers. After that Scott had been forced to find Liam which turned out to be rather easy once Liam had been able to roar and indicate his location. Saving the freshmen wolf from his death as he had been stabbed by the same wolves bane Brett Talbot had been hit with.

Stiles had spent the day with Lydia, searching for the third cipher key. They had gone to visit Meredith, another Banshee and the one having given Lydia the second cipher keys, seeking assistance with the last key which had gone from bad to worst. Stiles had informed his brother that the situation had plummeted rather quickly when the banshee had gone hysterical once Lydia had begun to yell desperately and then screaming, effectively causing blood to trickle from Lydia's ears and ending all means of discussion. They had gone back to Stiles home, Lydia eventually able to discover the last key which ended up being Derek Hale's name. Unfortunately, they had received the call that Meredith had committed suicide moments later.

So apparently everyone had gone through a shitty day and Bugs was no exception to it considering his pack members were one step closer to discovering his involvement with the assassins.

"You ever made a wire transfer?" Stiles questions the teen wolf sitting on the floor next to him. Bugs on the other side of his brother and steadily watching the stacks of money sitting around them.

Scott, who also couldn't tear his eyes from the money, shook his head and answered, "Never had enough money."

"So you didn't understand a word of that either?" Stiles questioned, Bugs keeping his heart rate steady as he attempted not to freak over the fact he knew just what it meant. Of course he knew, there was no way he hadn't been able to considering the endless amount of time he and spent researching the black market and assassins.

"I don't understand any of this. Why would someone use all this money just to kill us?" Scott groaned, clearly fed up with the mystery surrounding the hitlist and benefactor.

"Someone wants you dead, dude. Really fucking bad." Bugs explained to him, his tone short and clipped as he realized that could easily be him if he didn't keep his shit together.

"Whoa, whoa, what are you doing?" Stiles spoke up after Scotts hands began to pull the mounds of money back into the balck duffel bag where they come from.

"It's late. We've got the PSATs in the morning." Scott pointed out like it was the clear response.

Stiles shook his head and pointed towards the money, "No, I meant the money. $500,000. You know how much money that is?"

Scott repeated the obvious, "It's 500,000..."

Stiles blinked, not understanding how Scott was so oblivious to just what this meant. "It's half a million dollars Scott. What are you going to do, just slide it under your mattress?"

Scott sighed, continuing to place it back in bag, "I have to talk to Derek. The money's his."

Bugs corrected his friend, agreeing with his brother. "You mean his and Peter's."

"What does that mean?" Scott questioned.

Bugs sighed, briefly glancing at brother, before clarifying for his friend, "Look I know you're all for being noble and right but just think about what this actually means. It means maybe we should proceed with caution."

Scott looked between the twins and asked, "You both don't think we should tell Derek?"

"No. No." Stiles jumped into the conversation with the frustrated sigh. "No, of course we have to tell him. We're just... We're just saying, some of that money's Peter's, right?"

"Yeah."

"Right? Peter. Homicidal killer? Remember? You want to give $500,000 to him." Stiles explained in more detail so he would understand while Bugs nodded his head.

"When someone tries to kill you and then uses one of your good friends to bring himself back to life you don't give them money in return," Bugs sassed with a role of his eyes.

"So we should give Derek his money back. But not Peter?" Scott questioned.

"I didn't say that." Stiles countered.

Scott was clueless as he questioned, "Stiles, what are you saying?"

His answer was cut short as their ehads whipped to the loud banging outside the room and then the door swinging with open.

It was Malia, soaking wet from the rain outside as she swung the bedroom door open and spoke, "We found Satomi's pack. Derek and I. But they're dead."

Bugs shot up, rushing towards the door as he questioned, "All of them?"

Malia nodded, swallowing the lump in her throat when she remembered the bodies spread across the ground, "All the ones we found."

Stiles and Scott stood up, nearing the werecoyote. Bugs looking between them all as he questioned, "then where's Derek?"

"Where's Lydia?" The following morning the pack were all lined up and ready to take the PSATS. Most of them weren't in the right state of mind to take the grueling test considering the events from last night. Bugs even more so as his leg bounced up and down and his eyes flickered towards Malia who was a ball of anxious energy. He barely heard Kira when she asked where the strawberry blonde.

"She's took it her freshman year." Stiles answered her quickly, his hazel eyes moving down the hall as more student walked in.

Malia's head shot up at his response, "Does that mean I could have taken it some other time?"

Bugs sighed, looking at his girlfriend and smiling at her encouragingly although he felt anything but, "Malia, you studied harder for this than any of us."

Malia scoffed, shaking her head at the green eyed boy, "Doesn't mean I'm gonna do good."

Stiles corrected her, "Well..."

Malia furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, as Bugs looked over at his twin with narrowed eyes. "Well, what?"

"It's do well, not good." Stiles explained to her.

Malia seemed to grow even more nervous as she shot Bugs a desperate look. "Oh, God! Okay, okay."

Bugs attempted to placate her by placing his arms on her shoulders soothingly. "Hey, you'll do fine. Stiles is just an asshole grammar nazi."

"You're doing this, because while we're trying not to die, we still need to live. If I survive high school, I'd like to go to college.  A good college." Scott added, smiling at the werecoyote and reminding her why any of them were actually trying.

Kira nodded along with a defeated sigh, "It's only three hours. We can survive three hours."

"This is Beacon Hills Kira," Bugs reminded her with an eye roll. "Lets not think to positively."

They began to let the group of student in shortly, Malia's hand wrapping around Bugs forearm tightly as the line grew closer.

Even if he wasn't exactly supernatural he could feel the anxiety rolling off his girlfriend. The Stilinski knew just how long Malia had prepped for this, spending more nights wide awake reciting notecards to him while he nodded along and corrected her. Bugs hadn't gotten a decent night sleep in weeks and much of it wasn't because of the supernatural. He however hadn't cared much because he knew how important this actually was to Malia and he would do anything to help her.

"You'll be fine." Bugs reassured her quietly, slipping his large palm into her much smaller one.

"You don't know that. I've been human less then a year and I'm suppose to know years worth of information in that time. I'm going to bomb this thing." Malia answers back, her brown eyes flickering up at him as she stepped closer.

Bugs rolled his eyes at her, he didn't understand how she couldn't see just how much effort she had actually put into this. He hadn't seen her ever so focused and for the past weeks her mind revolved around this. "Malia, you've studied harder then any of us combined. You got every question right last night, there's no way you won't do well. I'm sure of it."

"And how are you so sure?" She countered.

"Because I'm intuitive like that and you had the best tutor." He answers her with slight humor.

They had been sat in alphabetical order, Bugs sitting in front of his little brother and causally tapping his pencil as he watched the last of the students turn their phones in and stamp their inked finger against the marked scantron. This was definitely not the way he wanted to spend his Saturday, certainly not with all the shit happening around them but Scott was right... they needed to eventually move on from all of this.

Bugs cleared his mind, sucking in cold puffs of air as he noticed his girlfriend to the left of him beginning to fidget in her seat. Her eyes trained on Ms. Martin who walked back into the room a mere seconds later and some random teacher who casually sat at the desk.

"We have to start. We can ask for his assistance during the first break." The unknown proctor dismissed Natalie Martins request to ask Mr. Yukimura for assistance. He turned to the awaiting students and announced, "You may now open your test booklets and begin."

Bugs took in a deep breath, opening his test book to see his first subject was Science. He nodded to himself in relief as he realized this might not be as bad he imagined it to be. He wasn't thrilled to be actually taking the test but at the very least he recognized the questions. His ears picked up on the noises of pencils scratching furiously against their papers, hearing sighs of frustrations and even some matching his own tone.

The green eyed boy managed to answer about fifteen of the questions within the first twenty minutes and decided to break concentration and look around. He caught site of Scott who looked completely zoned into his essay, writing as fast as he could possibly go. Then there was Kira who sat a few rows away, she leaned against one of her palms as she leisurely answered the questions, her almond shaped eyes catching Bugs and smiling briefly at him to which he returned. Then there was Malia who had one of her pencils and higlighters stuck between her lips, staring at some of the answers rather awkwardly, Bugs almost belting out in laughter at her facial expression except he didn't want to break her concentration. He heard his brothers head drop against the table top, clearly someone hadn't spent enough time studying.

Bugs sighed, rubbing his eyes and knowing it was probably best he got to his own exam when from beside him Sydney, one of his fellow test takers, dropped to the ground near his feet. Instinctively he helped her back up, "Woah Syd, you alright?"

Ms. Martin ran over, studying the girl while the rest of the students stared on, "Sydney! Are you all right?"

"I'm okay. I just got kind of dizzy." Sydney nodded, smiling to show she was alright although by the way her hands reached out to grab onto Bugs and Ms. Martin they knew she was anything but.

Ms Martin went to answer when she caught site of her wrist, pulling the fabric of her sweater up and questioning,"Sydney, how long have you had this?"

Sydney eyes flickering between Bugs, who took note of the red lesions on her skin, and the teacher, "I don't know."

The other proctor stood up and questioned, "Ms. Martin, do I need to stop the test?"

Ms Martin didn't answer at first, looking down at the girls wrists once more before shaking her head and walking towards the only door.  "No, um, it's fine. Everybody stay in your seats. I'll, um, be back in a minute. Nobody leaves the room."

"We will take a short recess and be back, shut your books," the proctor explained to the students as the door closed behind Ms. Martin.

Everyone obliged, Bugs helping Sydney back into her seat while she shyly smiled at him. Her friends soon took her attention as Bugs quickly sat back down as Stiles called him. "What was that?"

Bugs shrugged his shoulders, Malia's eyes on him as Scott turned to listen better, "I don't know. She has these lesions on her skin and I think that's what Ms. Martin saw... I don't know why they freaked her out though."

"Do you think it's anything bad?" Scott questioned with concern.

Bugs scoffed, slowly dropping lower into his seats. "When the fuck is it not?"

As if fate had heard him and some sick joke had been put into place Ms. Martins screams of desperation made them all jump. "Get back! No! Do not come in here! Get back outside!"

The students ran out, all of them pushing out of the room to see Ms. Martin pushing basketball players back outside and locking the door. She turned back to them all, noting how they all stared at her curiously, "Back to your seats. Now. Please."

The pack neared Scott who listened in to what she did as they walked back into the room.

"What's going on Scott?" Stiles questioned his best friend who was concentrated with the task outside.

"She's calling the CDC."

₩₩₩₩

"This is perfect, first I won't pass high school because I know nothing and the moment I do start to feel like it's possible we might all die." Malia huffs in annoyance as her and Bugs wait at the front of the classroom. It had taken less then twenty minutes for the school to be surrounded by CDC members in quarantine suits. They had shut off all exits and restricted any student from leaving. Currently everyone was giving blood samples and being placed into incubation rooms, well the ones who were sick. Everyone else was just casually leaning against a deal or outside in the hallways as they tried not to break down from fear as this seemed straight out of the movie Quarantine.

Malia pouted in anger, Bugs standing in front of her as he watched the rest of the students grow worried. He shook his head at her, "you're not dying, you're supernatural. Whatever it is probably wont even affect you."

"What about you?" She questioned.

He shrugged his shoulders, sitting next to her atop the desk, "eh... I feel great."

"What are we going to do now with these tests?" Malia questioned, her eyes trained towards the front desk where their tests had been collected for safekeeping.

"Well if we are lucky someone might possibly die, cause it's a state law that if someone dies we all pass the exam so who's gonna take one for the team is the question." Bugs joked with her, attempting to lighten her somber mood.

"What? Really? Where's Sydney?" Malia's eyes brightened at the revelation, standing from the desk at an alarming speed.

"What? No! Malia! I was kidding!" Bugs whispered to her, pulling her back down to her sitting position. "Although it is a silver lining..."

Malia rolled her eyes in annoyance at her boyfriend who refused to let her kill someone. Instead she focused her eyes on Scott, Kira, and Stiles who neared them.

"Bet they're thinking smallpox." Stiles spoke up, the group looking around as more woke era passed by.

The proctor, who Bugs had come to know as Simon, startled them all by cutting into their conversation. "Not likely. Smallpox was eradicated worldwide in 1979. We've only managed to completely eradicate two viruses in history. The other was rinderpest. It killed cows."

Stiles blinked rapidly, "So we should be comforted by that, right?"

"Unless it's something worse." Simon shrugged.

"Oh that's definitely comforting," Bugs sarcastically spat out, turning his attention back to his friends.

Malia seemed to be concentrated by the outside noise, her eyes meeting Bugs. "Whatever it is, they're taking it pretty seriously. They're a lot of cars and trucks out there. Your dad's with them."

Bugs sighed, running his hand through his hair while he looked at his twin, "we should call dad and let him know we haven't died yet."

Stiles nodded, heading over to the envelopes filled with phones and began searching for his own. "I'll do it."

Simon once gain cut into their conversation, "Don't bother. They would have shut off any access to all outside communication by now. No cell service, no WiFi. No one starting a panic. Looks like we're all just going to have to wait here and see what happens."

Bugs narrowed his eyes at the man, taking note of how casual he was being through this whole ordeal. There was something he didn't like about him, something strange.

₩₩₩₩

Bugs sat at one of the desks, his eyes trained on the proctor Simon who didn't seem at all fazed by the crazed movements around him. Stiles was somewhere inside the quarantined rooms, attempting to get anything else out of the doctors while Kira and Malia were getting their blood drawn. Scott had run off a few moments ago as well claiming he needed to use the restroom but Bugs had stayed out, his Stilinski instincts calling out to him. He didn't like the way Simon was taking this all in and he wanted to desperately find out why.

His attention was diverted when Mr. Yukimura quickly walked into the room and pulled him and Stiles down the corridors towards the locker room without another word.

"What's happening?" Bugs questioned, looking at his brother who was as clueless as him.

"It's Scott, Kira, and Malia," he explained, pulling them into the large locker room.

"It's still happening." Mr. Yukimura vaguely spoke up.

Malia walked up to Bugs, lifting her hand to show him her clawed hand. Her eyes looking up at him oddly, "I can't make them go back."

Scott from beside them also seemed to be having trouble controlling his abilities as his eyes kept shifting.

Kiras father speaking up, "Obviously the virus is affecting the two of you in a way it won't hit any human being. "

Stiles and Bugs shared a look, both on the same train thought as the younger twin voiced their thoughts, "You guys have to stay out of sight. We have to quarantine you from the quarantined."

Kira soft voice questioned, "Yeah, but where? I mean, what if they get violent? Like on a full moon."

Scott nodded along to his girlfriends opinion, "We shouldn't stay in here. Not in the locker room."

"A classroom is not going to hold us." Malia sighed, kneeling very well the damage to wolves, one of which was an alpha, could do.

Bugs sighed and offered, "What about the basement?"

Scott shook his head at the options, "Too many ways out. We need something secure. Somewhere nobody can find us."

Stiles, who had been relatively quiet about suggestion, spoke up with bright eyes. "The vault."

Scott narrowed his eyes and clarified, "The Hale vault. The Hales always have an escape route. Like their house. There has to be another way in."

₩₩₩₩

It didn't take long for Mr. Yukimura to dig up blue prints of the school considering everyone was in a panic over their possible death from an unknown illness. They were easily retrieved from the principals office and then quickly snuck back into the locker room all without anyone stopping him. He set the blue print across Coaches desk. Stiles being the first to begin examining it. "This is where the school sign is, so the vault's got to be right about here."

Mr. Yukimura nodded along, "I suppose if there's a second entrance, it would probably be accessible from the basement."

Bugs nodded, pointing his finger to where he imagines it to be, "It's probably somewhere in this hallway.West corridor."

"We should go check it out." Stiles looked at his brother, both twins set of finding it quickly.

Bugs nodded along, agreeing, "alright then, we will be back soon enough."

The twins went to spin on their heel, heading for the double door exit when both practically toppled over in the same moment. The world going black for Bugs in a split second as he went crashing down before Malia caught him and held him up whilst trying to keep from scratching him with her claws. Scott catching Stiles as well.

"What the fuck," both twins muttered as they steadied.

Mr. Yukimura stepped between them and looked into their eyes, noticing the small beads of sweat rolling down their heads. "It's happening to you too. You're getting sick. You all are."

Kira shook her head, "I don't feel sick."

"I think it's affecting you differently, neurologically." Her father explained, pulling out her test sheet and showing she hadn't even managed to bubble in one answer, all of them off to the side. "I found your test answers here in a pile with the others."

"Let's hurry before this gets worse," Bugs spoke up, attempting to walk as fear grew in his chest.
