(y/n) POV
It has been almost two weeks since Bucky started living with me. It took a few days to get used to things, but we learned how to adjust quickly. The first night Bucky stayed he had a nightmare. He had said it was about one of his missions. When I had tried to wake him, Bucky was thrashing around. He was terrified that he had hurt me, but I assured him I was fine.
It took a while to get him to go back to sleep. He was a little freaked out by his dream and was sure that he would hurt me again. I ended up lying next to him and held him in my arms while he slept. This became a regular thing since it seemed like Bucky didn't have as many nightmares that way.
I ended up giving him a journal for him to write down his memories or things he was trying to piece together. I would occasionally come home from work and find him writing in his journal. I've actually had to buy him more since he fills them up so quickly.
Bucky seemed to accept the fact that I wasn't afraid of him. He never wore his coat, hat, or glove around the house. The only time he wore them was when he was out in town, which made me happy since I loved his arm.
Bucky had wanted to take precautions in case someone had caught on to where he was. We got a backpack and filled it with a few things that would help him get by if he needed to leave, along with his finished journals. We ended up hiding it under the floor of the room.
Currently, Bucky was in town, getting some food for us. I had decided to take a shower and was drying my hair when I heard someone walk into the apartment. I immediately thought it was Bucky, but when he didn't announce that he was back, I got a little frightened. I opened the door of the bathroom slightly and saw a man in a blue uniform holding a shield. I held my breath.
How on earth did he get in? I wondered.
The man walked towards the table and picked up the journal Bucky was currently working on. As he looked through the pages, I noticed Bucky silently slip into the apartment. He spotted me and signalled for me to stay where I was. I nodded and continued to watch.
"Understood," the man suddenly said. He looked over his shoulder and spotted Bucky. He turned around and put the journal on the table. "Do you know me?"
"You're Steve. I read about you at the museum."
Steve relaxed a little.
"I know you're nervous," he said to Bucky, "and you have plenty of reason to be. But you're lying."
"I wasn't in Vienna," Bucky said, "I don't do that anymore."
I raised an eyebrow. What happened in Vienna?
"Well the people who think you did are coming here now. And they're not planning on taking you alive."
"That's smart. Good strategy." I saw Bucky glance at me then quickly back at Steve. "I'm compromised."
"This doesn't have to end in a fight, Buck."
"It always ends in a fight."
"You pulled me from the river," Steve said as Bucky pulled of his glove that covered his metal hand. "Why?"
"I don't know."
"Yes you do."
There was a sudden crash and both men looked at the windows. Steve deflected something with his shield, which exploded a minute later. Another object crashed through the window and landed in front of Bucky. He kicked it at Steve, who covered it with his shield before it exploded. There was suddenly a large bang at the door. I shut the bathroom door and closed my eyes, unsure of what was happening. I heard things being thrown around, things breaking, and suddenly bullets hitting metal. There was a series of crashes before there was a pause. Suddenly, the bathroom door opened, making me yelp, but I quickly calmed down when I saw Bucky. I wrapped my arms around him.
"You okay?" he asked.
"Yeah. You?"
"I need to leave. They found me and they think I killed a bunch of people in Vienna."
"But you've been here this entire time."
"They don't know that. I have to leave, (y/n). Just stay hidden and don't get hurt. I'll call you when I'm safe."
I nodded slowly and hugged him again. He walked out of the bathroom and headed towards the apartment door. I could hear bullets firing and hitting metal constantly, making me worried. I tried to calm my breathing, though it was hard with all the fighting I was hearing. I could also hear screams coming from the other apartments. I could hear bullets still flying around in the hallway.
Suddenly, pain exploded through my lower back. I screamed and collapsed to the ground, falling halfway into the apartment.
"Steve!" I heard someone say from outside. "There's someone else in Barnes's apartment." He paused for a moment. "On it." I heard another crash. I looked up as best as I could and saw a man hurrying towards me. "Miss, can you hear me? What is your name?"
"(y/n)," I managed to get out.
"My name is Sam. I'm a friend of Captain America's. Can you move?" I shook my head and he quickly looked over me. "Oh my gosh. I'm going to get you out of here. There are ambulances outside."
I nodded and he lifted me into his arm. He ran towards the window and jumped. I was in too much pain to think about it. Wings shot out of the man's metal backpack. He flew me to the ground and handed me off to the paramedics before taking off again. I could hear people rushing around me, shouting to one another, but nothing was registering. My world soon went dark.
