Bucky POV
I sat in the Wakandan infirmary. I looked at the glass tube in front of me. I was going to be frozen again until the scientists here figured out how to get all the HYDRA junk out of my head. I heard the door open and saw Steve walking towards me.
"You sure about this?" he asked.
"I can't trust my own mind," I replied with a sigh. "So until they figure out how to get this stuff out of my head, I think going back under is the best thing. For everybody."
"Well," Steve said. "I hope you're planning on saying your goodbyes."
I chuckled a little.
"There aren't many people who would care if I went missing."
"You'd be wrong there, Buck."
He turned around slightly to look at the door, a smile on his face. I looked at the door and stared. (y/n) came into the room in a wheelchair. I faintly saw T'Challa motion to the scientists in the room, who got up and left. (y/n) gave me a small smile as she came closer.
"(y/n)," I muttered.
"Hey, Bucky," she replied.
She glanced at Steve, who nodded. He reached for her extended hand and gently pulled her up from her chair. I watched as he practically carried her to the table I sat on and sat her next to me. She thanked him and Steve left the room. (y/n) took my hand in hers.
"(y/n)," I said again.
She wrapped her arms around me.
"I'm so glad you're alright," I heard her say quietly. "I wasn't sure where you had gone or if you had been taken. I was so worried."
I wrapped my right arm around her, rubbing her back.
"It's alright, (y/n)," I whispered into her hair. "I'm here. The worst I got out of everything was a lost limb." She pulled back and looked to where my left arm had used to be. I saw a few tears well up in her eyes as she gently touched the remaining metal. I wiped away her tears before they could fall. "I'm so sorry, (y/n)," I said. "I'm sorry you had to get dragged into this. All you ever did was be kind to me and I ended up almost getting you killed."
"It's not your fault, Bucky. Someone in the hall accidently shot me through the wall. They didn't know."
"I should have gotten you out."
"You had to worry about getting yourself to safety, Bucky. That was always the plan. If you were to be found, you would leave and I would stay in Bucharest."
We sat in silence for a few minutes. I rested my head on her shoulder with (y/n) ran her fingers through my hair.
"What will you do now?" I asked her.
"Well," she sighed. "T'Challa said I could stay here in Wakanda. I've already called my boss back at the cafe and told him that I was moving on."
"What will you do here?"
"I'll be here, helping you." I sat up and looked at her, confused. "Cooking was not my only degree that I earned in Bucharest. It was only my minor degree. I majored in brain surgery. They didn't need any surgeons in Bucharest, so I worked at the cafe, making food. Here, I can put that degree to use to help you."
"(y/n), you don't have to do this."
"I've helped you this far, Bucky. I'm not going to stop now."
I smiled at her.
"Thank you, (y/n)."
She nodded. A few minutes later, the scientists and Steve walked back into the room. I helped (y/n) back into her wheelchair then started towards the glass tube.
"Bucky." I turned around. (y/n) wheeled her chair towards me. She took my hand and pulled me towards her. She placed a soft kiss on my cheek. "I'll be here when you wake up."
I nodded and stepped into the tube. One of the workers strapped me in and a minute later, the glass rose up. I glanced at (y/n) and gave her a small smile. She smiled back at me before I closed my eyes. There was a hiss and then everything went cold.
