Chapter 7: Bucky

Thank God Steve and I weren't separated for too long. As seemingly crazy as I am, I'm still an emotional mush. I wouldn't want to lose Steve again. I don't think I could handle it. Being in the Star Wars universe couldn't even remedy that. And I like Star Wars. A lot.

So apparently the Tesseract is extremely unstable. It keeps emitting low levels of gamma radiation, and spitting blue sparks. The last time that happened, a horde of aliens came tearing out of the sky. Technically, I guess you could say that Rey is an alien, since she's from another planet. I never thought about that before. But still. She's too human to be an alien. I wouldn't be comfortable calling her one.

We've all been staring at the Tesseract for a while, unsure what to do. Steve's done his research. Apparently, the tesseract is unstable because two portals were opened when it was activated. After a lot of energy going into studying the Tesseract's' behaviors, we figured out that the portal opened from gamma radiation hitting a Star Destroyer directly above(the one Steve was on) and creating the portal. Because of the unusual alloy that the ship was made of, the radiation rebounded and hit the planet below, which is where I came out and met Rey. We have to cut off one of the portals, but we're not sure how to cut off one without collapsing the other.

"What the heck do we do about this?" I ask for the tenth time.

"Would your arm help us in any way?" Steve asks curiously.

"Not unless sending electricity into the Tesseract was an option," I reply wearily. "and if I'm correct, gamma radiation and electricity don't mix well. Makes things go boom."

Steve nods. "Yeah. And you've made things go boom one too many times today. We don't need you to blow anything else up."

"That's probably a good idea."

"So do we have any ideas on how to get this thing stable?" Rey asks, sounding sounding a little irritated. "We've gotten nowhere close to coming up with a solution."

Steve thinks for for a moment. "Last time this happened, we used another Infinity Stone to close the portal. Problem is, we don't have another one on hand. Closest thing we've got is Bucky's arm."

"I'm not sticking my arm into a tunnel of gamma radiation!" I exclaim, alarmed. "I really hope that's not what you were inferring!"

"No, that's not what I was inferring. Even if your arm could close the portal, that's way too dangerous." Steve glares at me, and I grin back fondly.

"Aww, so protective. But anyways, what if we tried to use a lightsaber? The power crystals inside could act like an Infinity Stone, and we'd have a better chance at destroying the portal. And only the one on the ship. If we close that one off, the power should automatically redirect towards the one on the ground..." I trail off, noticing that Steve and Rey are staring at me. "What?"

Rey looks impressed. "You're smarter than you seem."

"Are we almost there?" I complain. We're making the return journey to the giant ship. We won't be traveling very close to the ship, because it's "dangerous" and could "blast us to smithereens," according to Rey.

"Yes, we are almost there. Look out the front of the ship. What do you see?"

"Nothing! It's pitch black!" I retort.

"Exactly. The ship will have covered up the stars. We're closer than you'd think."

I peer out the windows, seeing a faint outline of a ship ahead of us."Yeah, I see it now. It's not completely black, though."

"Yes it is," Rey argues.

"No, it's not," I retort. "I can even see the outlines of where their boosters are."

Steve nods in agreement. "Yeah, it's more of a dark grey color rather than black."

"Well, I can't see a thing," Rey says, sounding annoyed. She pulls a lightsaber from below the control panel. "I'm going to go close the portal." She disappears around a corner, and Steve and I are left to wait.

I open my mouth to ask Steve a question, but then there's a large rumbling noise, and the ship shudders slightly. I frown, and Rey comes back in, smiling.

"I'm done. The other portal is still open."

My jaw drops. "What the- you were gone for like three seconds-"

Rey shrugs, looking a little proud. "I'm fast. But we should probably leave. Some stormtroopers are going to get very angry when they find out that portal is gone. I have a feeling that they would have used it."

"Yep."I make room for Rey to navigate the controls. She's a genius at this stuff- a natural pilot. In no time at all, we're hurtling away. "So," Rey says, not turning away from the controls. "You can wake Finn up?"

"I hope so," I reply nervously. "I can send electric currents through my arm, and that might help."

Rey nods, hope flaring in her eyes. "Good. I hope it works."

"Me too." I turn back toward the window. In a few short hours, I might be home. And with any luck, I'll be able to save Finn as well.
