Diner Day
AU Bucky Barnes. Modern Bucky didn't become winter soldier because Hydra doesn't exist. None of that exists. Also he didn't loose his arm.
You were walking around, and you were beginning to get a little hungry. That's when your eyes landed on the cutest little diner. You decided to go in and eat lunch.
Everything seemed so themed, and the look of the diner was so aesthetically pleasing. It made you want to go back home and dress up as a greaser girl or find a poodle skirt so you could also match the theme of this diner. You made a note of it in your phone for the next time you decided to come here, and maybe you would even take some photos. Even the waiters and waitress were well themed, and spoke the slang of that time. You were starting to think the place must've been ran by the Disney company.
You found yourself sitting at a booth even though you were by yourself. There wasn't anything wrong with it, you just felt weird occupying a booth alone. You were then given a menu. You decided to have the classic cheeseburger and fries with a glass of Coke.
While you were waiting you remembered the cute jukebox sitting on the stairs upon entering. You pulled out your actual notebook from your bag, and you wrote that you were sitting there. You also wrote that you'd be right back, and that you were at the jukebox. You mainly wrote that because you weren't just going to leave your bag on the table.
After you had done that you got up and went to the jukebox. They had so many different songs to choose from.
"Well it looks like you've beat me to the jukebox doll."
You felt like you had just jumped out of your body.
"Whoa, I didn't mean ta scare ya."
You turned around and there was the most handsome man standing beside you. He was dressed up as a greaser and his long hair was slicked back. He had the prettiest eyes too.
"No. It's fine. I just... Never saw or heard you coming up..."
"Bucky. My name is Bucky."
"Well I never saw you coming up Bucky, and my name is y/n." You smiled hoping you weren't fidgeting or blushing.
"You didn't hear me coming up, because I was actually coming down. My niece is having a party up there, but well..."
"Parties aren't your thing?"
"No. Not anymore. PTSD kinda makes it hard to... Be around to much loud noise. I mean I love Jamie and kids in general, but when you put them all in one room... It gets a little too loud and makes me uncomfortable... I can't believe I just told you all this." He looked down.
"I'm sorry, but thank you for your service."
"It was an honor to serve in the army, but I never thought it would affect me like it did." He looked back up frowning.
"Well... Why don't we choose a song together?" You suggested.
Bucky was shocked that you suggested that. Normally when people found out he was a veteran they ended up letting him do everything first. He was honourably discharged early. He didn't really like being first, but people only looked at his title not him. However you insisted on choosing something together which he thought was so kind without having to give up your place. You were there first after all.
"Okay." He smiled. Unfortunately he really didn't now what song to choose. "Actually can you pick something? I don't know what to choose."
"Are you a dancer?" You questioned.
"A little. My mom used to make me take lessons with my sister." He looked down blushing.
"Okay then. Are you in a dancing mood?"
"I guess."
"Okay." You smiled pressing the button for your song. "You don't mind having a dance with me?"
"No. Not at all." He smiled.
You grabbed his hand and went down the stairs as the song Let's Twist Again started to play. You didn't know why you were being so bold, but you liked it.
You went to the little floor area they made for and began to dance kicking out your feet. Then you clapped as the song said. Right before the song kicked off Bucky put one hand on your waist and held the other in his hand. He looked to you and winked. He was surprisingly quick on his feet. He began to kick his feet, and you followed suit. Then without thinking you both began dancing to a jive dance routine with him picking you up in lifts. The song finished, and several people clapped for you both. When you were done you were in shock.
"Y/n l/n. The best dance partner I ever had." He chucked.
"Oh my goodness. The James Buchanan Barnes. Last time I saw you, you and Becky were leaving for New York." You frowned. His mother got a promotion and had to move the family. You missed him, and now that he was here, you hated that you ever forgot him.
"I know, but I moved back here when I left the army. I honestly thought you would've moved."
"I did, but I had to move back until my house can be renovated."
"Oh."
"There's no need to oh, Buck. I'm hungry, and my food's sitting at my booth." You said as you noticed the waitress putting down your food. You grabbed his hand and took him to the booth as you began to eat the delicious food.
He sat in front of you, and he decided to steal one of your fries. You didn't mind because you both used to steal food from each other all the time.
"So Becky got married and had a kiddo."
"Yeah. Jamie is so sweet. I'm kinda embarrassed she and Steve named her after me."
"Why?"
"I dunno. What about you? Have you found anyone?"
"No. You know me. I've yet to be asked out, and I haven't found the right guy to ask; if I don't chicken out." You blushed.
"Well... what if this is your first date? That is if I'm worthy of you?" He blushed.
"Well I... I think I'd like that." You smiled.
"Ma'am can I order some fries." He called to your waitress, and she nodded.
"Well... I accidentally ate all your french fries." He chucked once more and crinkles formed at the corners of his eyes.
You ate the rest of your food, and then Bucky took you upstairs.
"Becky look who I found." Bucky told Becky.
"I know I heard Let's Twist Again and looked downstairs to see the last dance you ever did." She smiled.
The rest of the day went well. You even got to know Jamie, and Rebecca's husband Steve, who you learned Bucky had become friends with in New York and in the army.
"I'm sorry I didn't get you a present." You told Jamie.
"Oh that's alright. You didn't know I existed. That was a bit dark. Umm anyways to be honest I'm just glad to have met you. Mom had pictures of her and Uncle Bucky, and well there was also pictures of you with Bucky mainly. I asked Mom about who this girl was with Bucky, and she told me about all hers, yours, and uncle Bucky's adventures together. I think Uncle Bucky has always had a big old crush on you because anytime me and Mom talked about you all, somehow he sensed it or heard because he'd be there with us talking about you." She giggled.
"I'll tell you a secret... I've always had a crush on your Uncle Bucky." You giggled with her.
"Well that's a relief to hear." Bucky came behind you.
"Oh.. yeah... I did... I do." You looked up to him blushing.
"Thanks for having your party at this diner Jamie, and I'm glad you came in y/n. I'm glad I went to go to the jukebox." He smiled.
"Best diner day ever." You squeezed his hand.
