Clueless

50's Bucky. Not really a greaser or a soc, just Bucky.

Another year of school. Thankfully it was senior year and that meant soon you'd be free from the idiots that swarmed the building you'd been in for so many years. However not all your peers were that way. You managed to befriend two boys that could make your day better. (Even though you were all technically friends before any of you could talk.)

Steve Rogers was a charmer to most. An athlete with the golden hair and blue eyes of his war hero father. He knew everything social, but he never actually got involved. He also was goofy and could cheer you up when you were feeling down.

James Barnes or Bucky to anyone other than his mother was more reserved and really only spent time with you and Steve. He was also smart, intellectually just like you. He had a beautiful smile, and though he didn't speak much, he was always observant. He could read you like an open book, so when you said you were "fine", he would instantly hug you and comfort you until you really were okay.

Currently you had just met Bucky at his house on your way to school. Steve was already there for early exercises.

"Hey Buck." You hugged him and he ruffled your hair. "Don't do that James. You haven't done that since third grade." You whined.

"Well fine then n/n I'm sorry I was being annoying"  he laughed wrapping his arm around your shoulder. Then you pushed him off of you teasingly and he did the same to you.

You finally reached the school. Bucky walked you to your first class despite your protests of him possibly being tardy.  Then you were met with Steve.

"Hey n/n. What's happening?" he sat down beside you seeing as you were partners.

"Nothing really. But hey at least this half of the year is almost over." You began to start reading.

"Well you know now that it's fall and getting closer to winter it's gonna get cooler."  Steve mentioned as he worked on an essay for another class.

"Thank the Lord. I've been so hot lately."

You continued to read on the free day until it was time to change class. Steve walked with you because he has the next class with you. Nothing really happened in science. In art you and Steve worked on another project together. You both were painting a dog. At lunch Bucky met the two of you and you all sat outdoors today.

"I made an A on my history assignment." Bucky beamed.

"That's wonderful Buck." You replied. As you ate you kinda froze.

"You okay y/n? You... Are you cold?" Bucky rubbed his hand up your arm.

"Me. Cold? No. I'm all right. Maybe it's just you. I'm perfectly fine."

"Oh quit bein' so stubborn n/n. Here take my jacket."

Before you could protest, Bucky had already draped his Letterman jacket over you. You knew you couldn't escape him so you slipped your arms into the sleeves. You hated to admit it, but you might have sighed at how warm it was.

"There much better."

When art ended, Bucky met up with you and you both walked to your last class. You also were partners so Bucky and you sat together as well. It was a pretty boring day, but Bucky always made you laugh. The only thing you thought was odd was the strange chatter and whispers behind you.

Steve, Bucky, and you all walked together. Your house was first. You told them goodbye then began your homework. That's when you realized you still had Bucky's jacket. You took it off and reminded yourself to give it to him tomorrow.

"Here's your jacket Bucky." You were about to take it off when he put his hands on your shoulder.

"It's fine, besides, you didn't get a Letterman. Wear mine for a while and give it a go."

"Bucky. That's cause I didn't want one."

He smirked as he shouted down the hallway. "I know."

Today was no different same old same old. Except people kept looking at you funny, especially when you were with Bucky. They all would giggle to each other, and you were a little concerned.

In another class where Steve was
"Look y/n's finally jacketed. She's got on Barnes' Letterman. It's about time, what after like seven years." A girl chatted to another and Steve listened.

"I know. They are so cute together. I'm a little jealous." The other girl replied.

"I want to be jacketed so bad." (a/n: jacketed means to be going steady with someone) The girls continued to talk and Steve was left confused and slightly humored.

Back to you and Bucky after school
"Hey Buck, has anyone been looking at you funny?" You sat with him waiting on Steve so you could all walk home.

"Yeah and I don't know why." He rubbed the back of his neck.

"I do." Steve ran up to the both of you.

"What? What is it?" You went up to him, and he pointed at Bucky's jacket.

"My jacket? What about it?" Bucky also walked up to Steve.

"All is about it. Since you've let y/n borrow it, and she's been wearing it for a couple of days, everyone thinks you've jacketed her." Steve began to walk and you and Bucky followed.

"Uh, what does jacketed mean Steve?" You wondered aloud. "Yeah, what does it mean?" Bucky added.

"Seriously neither of you know? It means that everyone thinks you're going steady. I mean any jacket you could give, and you chose the one with BARNES on the back? No wonder people are thinking your Barnes' gal? Unless... Are y'all really going steady?" Steve smirked as he turned back around.

You looked over at Bucky and he looked to you. You both blushed and looked away. "Oh... That's what that means... I've heard people say it all week... I mean I guess it makes sense and all." You finally answered.

"Didn't answer my question pal. Are you both going steady?" Steve asked in a playful tone.

"Well-" before you could finish Bucky cut you off.

"Yeah, were going steady Steve, but you know us, we don't know anything at all." Bucky then slung his arm around you.

"I knew it. Rebecca owes me money. How long has it been."

You were too flustered to say anything.

"Oh we'll just recently really." Bucky replied.

"You know y'all's ma's are gonna be thrilled to find out y'all are together. I've heard rumors from y'all's family that your moms have been planning y'all's weddin since before you were both born. Now do I believe that. No, not before you both were born anyway. But more recently as y'all grew closer. Yeah. I do, and when Rebecca tells, the deal will be sealed." He laughed and you honestly didn't know how you were still moving.

"Anyways, we're at my house. See y'all tomorrow. Roller skating yeah? Hey now that y'all are together I should bring Peggy and we can all go on a double date."

"Of course. See ya tomorrow Steve." Bucky waved him goodbye and walked in with you still wrapped in his jacket, and in his arm.

"Doll... You in there?" That's when you realized Bucky was snapping his fingers in your face.

"Uh... Yeah... I... I'm here."

"Is this about earlier? It is isn't it?"

He then grabbed your hands. "Look I'm sorry about that; I just blurted it out. However I didn't do it to be jokin around. Truth be told is I like you. More than a friend like you. It's kinda stupid my jacket is ultimately what made me say it, but I do. So uh, yeah... I'm sorry I made this super awkward." He looked down.

"It's okay James. If anything we are an unbeatable force of awkwardness. I like you too. I wanna be with you. I'll go steady with you." You smiled.

"Really?" He looked back at you beaming.

"Yeah." You kissed his cheek.

"Did I ever tell you, I like seeing you in my jacket?"

"Did I ever tell you I like wearing your jacket?"

"I'm so glad you didn't buy a Letterman and got cold for once."

"Me too Buck. Me too."
