Super Mom (Part 7)
A/N: Yes, another part for Super Mom. I know that you might be sick of this series already but I like writing it and it seems like some of you like it too! I have a few one shots that were requested many, many months ago and I am planning on writing them. Late Night Intros part 4 is in my drafts as well. After I've posted that, I will start working on other imagines. I'm not saying I'll stop writing Super Mom and Late Night Intros forever!! I'm just saying I need to take a break from them until I'm done with the other requests. Tell me if you'd like for me to continue Super Mom when I'm done with the other imagines. ALSO, the person who requested some smut for this part, I'm sorry but I've never really written smut before and I'm not very comfortable with it. I'm not saying smut is gross or anything like that, it's not but I just don't want to do it, at least not yet. Sorry!
Warning(s): Caden gets a bit whiny when he's sick, someone needs to put a dollar in the swear jar (there's a one curse word)
You had been given an undercover mission that was predicted to last four to seven days, depending on if unsuspected obstacles came along. You were feeling very anxious but not because of the mission. The mission was be a piece of cake for you but leaving your son for a few days, maybe even a week, wasn't.
While you were getting ready, Bucky was trying to calm you down by telling you everything will be fine and that he'd be there for Caden.
You were pacing back and forth, rambling on and on about what Bucky needed to do. He needed to drive Caden to kindergarten, make sure they were on time, go grocery shopping, do all the stuff he had done before, just not by himself.
"Calm down, Y/N." Bucky said as he planted his hands on your shoulders, making you halt and stop pacing across the room. "Everything will be fine."
You nodded, knowing he was right. You stepped closer to him and rested your head on his chest. Bucky wrapped his arms around your shoulders and kissed the top of your head.
"I'm sorry. I know he's going to be okay but I don't know if I will." You said and Bucky placed his hands on your cheeks, making you look at him in the eye. "I trust you with him, I really do but I'm going to miss my little boy."
Bucky smiled, showing he understood how you were feeling. "God, you're an obsessive mother." He chuckled which made you send him a glare. "We'll be okay and you will be too. I'm sure you won't even have time to worry about Caden."
"I always have time to worry about my son." You muttered. "I've got to get going." You said as you glanced at the clock on the wall.
Bucky nodded and you two left the room. You were immediately met with Caden who was running through the corridor. He was about to run past you but Bucky was quick enough to catch him. He grabbed Caden which made the little boy scream out in surprise. Caden giggled as Bucky squeezed him in a tight hug.
"Where are you running off to?" Bucky asked but Caden only shook his head, not wanting to reveal the answer.
"Honey, I have to go now." You said and Caden turned to look at you with his bottom lip puckered. You pouted back at him and laid a hand on his shoulder. "I'll come back in few days. That means daddy can't be the fun parent the whole time." You said gave Bucky a warning look. Bucky might have coddled Caden a bit. He rarely ever scolded Caden about anything, he really was the 'fun parent'.
"You're fun too." Bucky said but you ignored him.
"I promise I'll come back as soon as I can." You said and kissed Caden's cheek. "Will you give mommy a kiss?" You asked and pointed at your cheek.
Caden placed one of his hand on your forehead and the other on the back of your neck and quite forcefully pulled your head towards him so he could kiss your cheek.
You pulled away, smiling before leaning up to press your lips on Bucky's gently. "Bye." You whispered.
"Bye." Bucky whispered back. "I'll miss you."
"I'll miss you too."
"Will you miss me?" Caden asked and you couldn't help but laugh.
"Of course I will!" You said and squeezed his cheeks slightly. "I will miss you more than anyone." You said and kissed his forehead one more time before leaving. "I really have to go now. See you soon! I love you." You called out before leaving.
"We'll be okay, right?" Bucky asked and Caden turned to look at him. Caden nodded and Bucky did too, "I thought so."
***
The next morning, Bucky woke up early, the alarm went off at 6:30, 30 minutes before he was supposed to wake Caden up. Bucky groaned and sat up on the edge of the bed. He rubbed his sleepy eyes and scratched the back of his neck before standing up.
He went to the living room, turned on the TV and watched the news. He only had few minutes to himself until he heard the door to Caden's room open. Bucky shot his head towards the door and saw Caden walking towards him with a tired look on his face. "Good morning, Caden. What are you doing up?" Bucky asked, muting the TV.
"Daddy, I don't feel good," Caden said weakly and made his way over to Bucky. He reached out to Bucky who wasted no time in picking him up and setting him on his lap. "I'm cold." Caden whined as he shivered.
Bucky brought his human hand to Caden's forehead and felt the heat instantly. "You're burning up!" He exclaimed and held the boy close to himself. He rushed to the bathroom, looked through the cabinets until he found a thermometer. He then went back to the living room, placed the thermometer in Caden's mouth. "Now you have to keep your mouth closed, okay?" Bucky said in a gentle voice as he ran his fingers through Caden's hair soothingly.
Caden nodded his head and rested it on Bucky's chest, closing his eyes as the two waited three minutes before Bucky looked at the thermometer that showed 102 degrees Fahrenheit. (38.9 °C)
Bucky felt his breathing pick up its pace as he looked at the thermometer. He didn't know whether he should take Caden to the doctor or not. He hurriedly grabbed his phone from the coffee table, still holding Caden while he dialled your number. It only took few seconds until you answered, "Hello?"
"Y/N! Caden's running a fever and I don't know what to do!" He whispered to the phone.
"Calm down, Bucky." You kept your voice calm. "How high is his fever?"
"102 degrees."
"How is he acting? Is he coughing? Is he in pain?"
"No he just feels cold." He said as he grabbed a blanket that was placed on the arm rest and wrapped it around the shivering boy.
"It doesn't sound too serious." Bucky sighed in relief as he heard you say that. "Just keep an eye on him, okay? Also make sure you call his teacher that he won't be attending kindergarten today. Oh, Caden get's really whiny and needy when he's sick so be ready for that."
"Okay. Thank you. You know, I was beginning to worry."
"Yeah, I noticed." You chuckled, making Bucky smile. "Other than the fever, how's everything? Are you two alright?"
"Yes, we're fine. Do you want to talk to Caden?"
"Yes, put the phone on speaker."
"Say hi to mommy." Bucky told Caden as he put the phone on speaker.
"Mommy?" Caden said quietly.
"Hi, sweetie!"
"Mommy, I'm sick."
"Oh, I know baby. But daddy will be there for you. You just need to rest, okay? You'll feel better later on." You spoke softly.
"Okay. I love you, mommy."
"I love you too, sweetie. Bucky, call me later and update me on this situation, okay?"
"I will. Bye, I love you."
"Love you too."

Later that same day, Caden woke up from a nap. He made his way to the living room and saw Bucky lying on the couch.
"Daddy?" Caden called out and Bucky sat up immediately.
"Hey, how are you feeling?" Bucky asked as Caden made his way to the couch. He got up and leaned his head on Bucky's side as he yawned.
"I'm hungry." Caden whined as he pouted.
"Okay, let's get you something to eat." Bucky muttered as he wrapped an arm around Caden, picking the boy up and heading to the kitchen. He sat Caden down before taking a can of chicken soup and heating it up in a bowl. He sat down next to Caden and placed the bowl in front of him.
Caden looked at the bowl and grimaced. "I want Oreos."
"You're not getting any Oreos. Chicken soup is good for you. If you eat it, you'll get better."
Caden shook his head and pushed the bowl further away from himself. He crossed his arms and exclaimed, "Oreos!"
Bucky shook his head and pushed the bowl back closer to Caden. He grabbed the spoon, scooped some soup on it before bringing it in front of Caden's mouth. Caden only pursed his lips together and turned his head away. Bucky huffed and put the spoon back in the bowl. "Y/N was right. You really are very whiny when your sick."
Caden only glared at Bucky and stuck his tongue out. Bucky raised his brows, Caden hadn't been so disrespectful towards Bucky ever before. He gave Caden a warning look. "Don't do that again." Bucky said lowly which caused Caden's glare to turn into an almost fearful look as he looked up at Bucky.
"I'm sorry, daddy." He said and looked down at the bowl of soup.
Bucky smiled and placed his hand on Caden's shoulder. "It's okay." He said and pat Caden's back. "Now eat your soup, son."
***
Caden was feeling a lot better the day after, but he stayed home. He was more than happy but Bucky wasn't. Of course he loved spending time with Caden but it just meant he had to stay home and skip training, not that he really needed it but Steve scolded him about being absent again and it annoyed him. "We need to learn how to work as a team. We still need to improve that." Steve always said.
Bucky didn't really think about it all that much because Caden's health was his main concern. Throughout the day, Caden seemed to be fine. He was way more energetic that he had been the day before but not as energetic as he usually was. Bucky made sure Caden didn't tire himself too much and that he remembered to rest.
The day after that, Bucky went to the park with Caden, deciding that a little outing would do good for them both. They had been scooped up at home for two whole days. Also, Tony had texted him and told him to stay home the whole weekend. He said it'd be great to have some father-son bonding time, not that they hadn't had that before. So the two went to the nearest park that was only five blocks away.
Bucky walked to the park with Caden on his shoulders, pretending to drop him a few times, which only made Caden scream and giggle. "Daddy stop!" He giggled and took a hold of Bucky's hair, as if he was holding handlebars, pretending to control him as they neared the park.
As they got to their destination, Caden ran straight to the swings and Bucky followed behind until he heard someone call out for his name. He turned around and saw a father of one of Caden's friends. "Hey," Bucky said, a bit surprised to see a familiar face at the park. "Mark, is it?" He asked as the man made his way over to him.
Mark nodded and stood next to Bucky, shoving his hands in the pockets of his jacket. "So, you're alone with Caden?" He asked as he motioned to the swings.
Bucky sighed and nodded, "Yes. I see you're alone with your kids too." He said as he looked at the stroller and the young girl, clinging onto Mark's arm.
"Yes, I am. Being a doctor, it's a rare occasion I can spend a whole day with my kids."
The two of them began conversing and the discussion continued for a good few minutes until they started to hear crying. They both turned to look at the swings and saw Caden on the ground, crying while holding his knee to his chest.
Bucky huffed and jogged over to him. He saw a rip on the pants and rolled up the leg to see the small injury more clearly. It wasn't really bleeding but there was blood on the skin. Bucky dug up band-aids from his pockets. "Shit." He cursed silently as he realised he didn't have anything to clean the wound with.
Fortunately, Mark came to the rescue and handed Bucky some baby wipes that he could use to clean up the wound while telling Caden to calm down, telling him it was just a small cut. "What happened?" Bucky asked as he finally put a band-aid on the cut.
"I jumped from the swing," Caden sniffled, "and I fell."
Bucky wiped the tears away from Caden's cheeks. "You need to be more careful, Caden." He said gently and nudged his shoulder. "Your knee doesn't hurt too bad, does it?" Caden shook his head. "Good." Bucky smiled.
"You said a bad word." Caden reminded and Bucky's eyes widened. He thought his cursing went unnoticed.
"Yes, I did." Bucky sighed in defeat, there was no reason to lie. "I'll make sure I'll put a dollar in the swear jar when we get home. But we have to make sure mommy doesn't find out about this. Do you promise me you won't tell mommy on me?" Caden shook his head with a grin. "We can drop by the store and buy some Oreos?" Bucky suggested and Caden nodded, finally agreeing with him. "Good, now go play some more before we have to leave."
Caden ran off to the slide and Bucky went to sit on the bench where Mark was already sitting on, rocking the stroller back and forth. Mark chuckled as Bucky sat down. "First time alone with Caden?" Mark asked.
"Is it that obvious?" Bucky chuckled as well. "Y/N's been gone for a few days now, I still have the weekend alone with him."
Mark shrugged. "Don't worry about it. You'll get the hang of it soon."
"I guess."

In the wee hours of Sunday morning, Bucky woke up to the feeling of someone's hand on his shoulder, shaking him slightly. By the whispers of his name that he could hear, he recognised you. He opened his eyes and a lazy smile spread across his face as he saw you. "Hi." He said with a husky voice and you smiled as well.
"Hi." You said quietly. "Did he have a nightmare?" You asked as you motioned to the other side of the bed.
Bucky turned his head to the direction and saw Caden sound asleep next to him. Bucky shook his head and turned to look at you again. He grabbed your hand and pulled you down on the bed. You didn't fight him and lay down on the bed, resting your hand and head on his broad chest, tracing your fingers up and down his torso. "Then why is he here?"
"He missed you." Bucky said and you stopped your movements abruptly.
"Really?" You asked, seeming surprised.
"Yes," Bucky nodded, "he said your pillow still smells like you and that the smell is 'scrumptious'." He said and you gave him a confused look. "I don't know where he learned that word." He said with a shrug.
"He missed me that much?" You wondered out loud and lifted your head up from Bucky's chest to look at your son. You reached out to his cheek and ran your knuckles gently over the soft skin. "Oh, my baby boy." You cooed.
Bucky stared at you with the smallest smile on his lips. You saw the gaze he was looking at you with and looked at him with slightly furrowed brows. "What?"
Bucky just shook his head and leaned up, his lips grazing over yours. "Nothing." He said with a voice that was barely as loud as a small whisper. He leaned in more to properly press his lips against yours, kissing you slowly. "I missed you too." He said as you pulled away. "Please never leave us two alone again." He begged and you shot him a worried look. "I still haven't gotten the hang of this parenting thing. He got sick, he scraped his knee, bumped his head a few times and—"
"Bucky," you stopped him from rambling. "Kids bump their heads a lot and get injuries, small ones. They learn from them. As long as nothing too serious happened, it's alright."
Bucky nodded along as you spoke, realising that he'd done nothing wrong. He had done all he could to take care of Caden all on his own, and since this was the first time they had multiple days alone, he did pretty well.
You sat up and flopped down on the other side of the bed, making the mattress bounce slightly and Caden stirred in his sleep. You lay down and pulled Caden closer to you, cuddling him. Caden turned around to face you automatically, still sound asleep. Bucky scooted closer to the two of you and wrapped an arm over you both.
It didn't take long until you fell asleep. You slept better than you had for the past few days. Just being near your family made you feel a lot better and more at peace.
***
The next morning, you woke up to the sun shining through the window, the rays hitting your eye. You noticed both Bucky and Caden had already gotten up. You threw the duvet over to the other side of the bed and got up yourself. You made your way to the door and opened it only to have it closed in your face. You stood back, slightly shaken. You opened it again but it got closed once more with an exclaim from the other side. "No!" Caden yelled out.
"Honey, what's wrong?"
"Don't come out!" He said loudly. "Go to sleep!"
"What's going on?"
"Go to sleep!" He repeated before you heard him run off to somewhere.
You stood still for a second, thinking whether you should listen or just go see what was going on out there. You decided to go back to bed as you let out a yawn. You got back under the covers and tried to get some more sleep.
You didn't have much time to fall back asleep as you heard a light knock on the door. You lifted your head from the soft pillow and saw the door handle being turned slowly. The door opened and you saw Bucky standing in the doorway with a tray full of breakfast. You smiled and sat up, fluffing a pillow before placing it behind your back and you leaned against the headboard. Bucky made his way to you and Caden ran past him and got up on the bed, sitting down next to you. You hugged him and pulled away when Bucky placed the tray over your lap.
"What's this for?" You asked as you looked down at the tray, seeing all your favourite kinds of breakfast foods laid on it.
"I know you had a rough week, being away from your son and all, so..." He trailed off as he pointed at the tray, sitting down on the edge of the bed.
"Thank you." You said as you leaned in, placing a small kiss on Bucky's lip. You then turned to Caden and tried to give him a quick kiss as well but he just clamped his hand over your mouth. "Your breath smells." He said and you let out a gasp, pretending to be offended which made Caden laugh.
"Wow, this is so sweet, I can't even imagine what you'll do for me on Mother's Day." You said as you started eating your breakfast, humming in approval as the delicious taste hit your tongue. "You can both join, if you want." You said with your mouth full of food.
You spent the morning in bed with Caden and Bucky, eating and relaxing. You also told about the mission you had been on and Caden was very excited about every little thing you did that was related to the mission. It made you happy to know someone was so interested in your job and what you did, even if it was your son who was still very young and didn't understand some of the things you told him, he still seemed very excited.
As you spent the morning just enjoying some time with Caden and Bucky, talking to them, laughing with them, watching them play around with one another, you knew there was no place you'd rather be at than home with your boys.
