Super Mom (Part 4)
A/N: I feel like these parts keep getting messier and messier. I hope you still enjoy reading them! Also, I searched marvelous-imagining on twitter (because I was bored and tbh I didn't even think I would find anything) and saw some people tweeting about Super Mom. One person said that she liked part 1 and 2 better than the third part. I respect your opinion, I totally do and you can always send me an ask, even anonymously, share your opinion with me and other people. You could even tell me why you think that way and what I should have done differently. I welcome constructive criticism. ALSO, tell me if you want a part 5. I hope you'll like this part!
You felt Bucky lace his fingers with yours as the elevator went up to the floor where your teammates were waiting for the birthday boy, Caden. "You ready?" Bucky asked you.
You turned your head towards him and shook your head slightly. "No." You answered with a chuckle. "Maybe we should rethink about keeping this as a secret." You kinked up your eyebrow.
Bucky rolled his eyes but before he could speak up, you interrupted him. "C'mon! You know it would be better that way." You said and leaned a bit more towards him. "And more exciting." You whispered and nibbled his ear.
Bucky's face heated up as he looked down at the little boy standing in front of the two of you, fortunately Caden was facing away from you. "You sure nobody is going to spill the beans?" He asked while pointing at Caden.
You laid your head on Bucky's shoulder. "Oh, I think you have a point." You sighed and crouched down and laid a hand on Caden's shoulder which caused him to turn towards you. "Caden, honey," you started and ruffled up his hair a bit. "Can you promise me that you won't say anything about me and Bucky?" You asked him and Caden nodded. The smile on his lips and the laugh that escaped his mouth said otherwise ...
The elevator finally reached the floor that was your destination. The doors opened and Caden took off running like he did every time.
"Okay, so," You whispered without looking at Bucky. "We act as if nothing happened, alright?" You asked and saw Bucky nodding from the corner of your eye. "We don't want to steal Caden's thunder. This day is all about Caden."
You two walked towards the common room, hearing people yelling out "Happy birthday!" Before you even arrived.
When you finally turned around the corner, Steve ran over to you. He had a huge smile on his lips and he was just about to say something but Bucky pulled him aside. You followed them with your gaze until Natasha placed a hand on your shoulder and you turned to face her. "Hey," she said with a smile. "How's Super Mom doing? I heard you were pretty emotional earlier."
You rolled your eyes, shrugged her hand off and crossed your arms on your chest. "You'd be too, if you were me."
Natasha chuckled and threw her arm over your shoulders. You noticed Clint approaching you and pulled away from Natasha.
"Hi, Clint." You said and greeted him with a hug. "Finally someone who understands how I'm feeling right now."
"They grow up so fast." He nodded. "I know."
He held you in his arms for few seconds more and you pulled away. "Now, I'm going to go find Tony and kick his ass." You said with a grin and headed towards the others.
"You heard about the mini suit?" Clint called out after you.
"Yup." You yelled back and strolled over to Tony.
You tapped Tony's shoulder and he turned around. "Hey! Super Mom!" He opened his arms and moved closer to hug you but you stopped him by holding your hand on his chest. Tony looked down at your hand that was now on his chest in confusion and turned back to look at you with his brows furrowed.
"I heard you finished the suit." You said, trying to sound as menacing as you could. You narrowed your eyes and lifted up your chin only slightly as you crossed your arms over your chest.
Tony visibly gulped. "T'Challa." He called out, never breaking his gaze from yours. "Be a good kitty and keep me safe." He said as he took slow steps back.
"No," T'Challa said from behind you. "I'm sure I'll enjoy watching this." He said with a chuckle.
Caden seemed to have caught up on what was happening and he yelled out, "Mommy, no!" And you heard him run off to somewhere while yelling for Bucky.
You smirked as you saw Tony glare at T'Challa while he still took small steps back. You started taking small steps forward, still keeping your distance from him.
"By the way, thank you, T'Challa, for coming today." You thanked him, still not taking your eyes off of Tony.
"I'm sure Wakanda survives a day without its king."
You felt someone place a hand on your shoulder to hold you back. You looked to your side and saw Bucky standing next to you. "As much as I'd love to see Y/N kick your ass," he said to Tony, "I'm afraid I can't let her do that. Birthday boy's orders."
Caden cheered and ran up to you and Bucky. He wrapped his arms around you and buried his face in your side. You placed your hand on the top of his head and ran your fingers through his hair. "You didn't actually think mommy would hurt uncle Tony, did you?"
Caden shook his head before he lifted his gaze up and smiled at you. You sent him a smile back, leaned down and lifted him up in your arms. You nuzzled your nose with his and he giggled.
"Let's eat some cake!" Thor's loud voice boomed and Caden clapped his hands together.
The others went to the kitchen and you, Caden and Bucky stayed slightly behind only because Bucky held you back. Before Bucky could say anything, you asked him, "What was up with Steve?"
"He uhm..." Bucky started as his hand found its way to the back of his neck. "He knows." He said very quietly.
"What?" You snapped. "How could he know? He never notices stuff like this!"
Bucky avoided your gaze and rubbed the back of his neck. "I kind of told him." You gasped. "I texted him from the car." He admitted while looking down at the floor.
"Bucky!" You scolded him. "You know he can't keep a secret like this!"
"How could I not tell him? He's my best friend." He huffed and crossed his arms.
You sighed and placed your forefinger and thumb on the bridge of your nose. "Let's hope he keeps his mouth shut." You muttered quietly before stepping into the kitchen.
You stepped in the kitchen to see Steve lighting the candles on the birthday cake they had gotten. You walked over to the table the cake was placed on, still holding Caden in your arms. "Time to blow out the candles again, sweetie." You told him.
And Caden blew out the candles for the second time that day. Everyone cheered and you started cutting a piece of cake for Caden. "Here you go," you said as you placed the piece on a plate, "Happy birthday." You smiled and kissed his cheek before taking his hand and walking up to the table, sitting down and laying the plate on the table. Caden climbed up on your lap and started eating the cake.
The others followed behind, sitting down at the table with their own plates. Everyone started chattering but you were too focused on holding your four-year-old son tightly, thinking he was still your baby who you used to hold in your arms throughout the day. Now he was running around the house, playing by himself or with his babysitter while you were fighting off bad guys, saving the world.
"Y/N?" You heard someone ask and you were brought back down to earth from your own thoughts.
"Yes?" You asked and looked around the table, trying to find the person who mentioned your name.
"We were discussing the next mission." Tony said and your eyes landed on him.
"Really? It's Caden's birthday and you're talking about work?" You laughed slightly. "C'mon, can't you forget about work for just one night?"
Everyone quieted down, even Caden was quiet but that was because he was very focused on eating the cake.
The only thing that you heard was the clattering of the cutlery. After a few minutes of silence, you decided to speak up again.
"Geez, can't you think about any other topics than work? Okay," you huffed, "So... The mission?"
"Simple, very easy. It's an undercover mission. We would have asked Natasha to go but she has another mission. You'll have to go with someone of course, that would be Steve. All you have to do is go to the bar, flirt a little, maybe kiss a little. Don't attract too much attention."
You and Steve were both staring at Tony with wide eyes. You glanced at each other before looking back at Tony again. "What?" You asked in disbelief.
"We need the two of you to spy on this one guy. He thinks he's meeting up with a married couple who's interested in looking to buy his business."
"Why me and Steve?" You asked. "Why not..." You started and looked to your side where Bucky was sat. He was tapping his metal fingers on the wooden table as he sent a glare towards Tony. Bucky did not like this idea one bit, everyone who looked at him could see that. He wasn't even trying hard to hide it.
"Barnes?" Tony asked. "Why Barnes?" He asked and crossed his arms as he leaned back on his chair with a smug smile on his lips.
"I'm pretty sure he would do better." You shrugged your shoulder and hid your face by kissing the top of Caden's head really quickly, resting your cheek on his head after.
"I think people will recognise him." Tony fought back.
"That's why we'd need a disguise." You narrowed your eyes at him. "And you think people won't recognise Steve? Captain America?"
"It seems like you really want Bucky to go with you." He said as he crossed his hands and set them on the table.
You were about to tell him that you just thought Bucky was more suitable for the mission than Steve but Caden beat you to it. "That's because they want to kiss." He said and everyone turned their attention back to the birthday boy.
You felt your cheeks heat up as the blush crept on your face. You cleared your throat before chuckling nervously. "Sweetie, what are you talking about?"
"You can stop pretending, Y/N." Natasha rolled your eyes. "We know about you two."
You carefully eyed everyone around the table. "What are you talking about?" You asked as you looked back at Natasha.
Everyone groaned around you and Clint even let his head bang against the table.
"Steve told us."
You slowly turned your gaze to Steve and you gave him one of the angriest looks you had ever given anyone. "I'm going to—" you stopped yourself and covered Caden's ears before finishing your sentence. "I'm going kick your ass." You whispered the last word to him.
"Even if he hadn't told us, we would have guessed it anyway." Clint shrugged. Before you could ask further questions, he continued. "You've been holding hands under this table the whole time."
You slowly and subtly pulled your left hand away from Bucky's right one.
"You finally got together!" Wanda exclaimed.
You let your head loll back and you let out a quiet groan. "Okay," you took a deep breath and lifted your head back up. "We haven't really discussed it."
"What about all the talk about the birds and the bees?" Steve suddenly asked.
"The birds and the bees?" Caden asked.
"I'll tell you when you're older." You said while patting his hair. "Bucky," you said slowly and you swear you could hear him gulp, "Did you tell him everything that happened?"
Bucky shook his head. "No." He said quietly.
"Did you text that to him from the car too?"
Bucky shook his head again. "I told him when we came over."
You slapped your palm on your forehead and rested your elbow on the table in front of you. "Caden go play, we, adults need to talk." You said and kissed his cheek quickly before he ran off to the common area. "Pietro, could you go after him? Make sure he doesn't wander around?"
"Why do I have to be the one to miss this conversation?"
"Because you're fast. Go!" You shooed him.
Pietro rolled his eyes but he did zoom away, leaving a blue blur behind.
For a while it was quiet around the table and you could feel how uncomfortable it made everyone. There was a lot of tension in the room.
"Why do we all have to discuss this?" Sam asked and so the silence was broken, fortunately.
"We need to make some things clear. This," you said as you waved your hand between you and Bucky, "isn't going to affect this team or missions in any way, alright? We can still do the missions we did before. Nothing is going to change."
"I wouldn't say 'nothing'." Bucky joined the conversation. "I sure as hell am not letting you go on that mission with Steve."
"There was no mission," Tony rolled his eyes. "We made that up to trick you into confessing you're together now."
"We are not 'together'." You sighed and looked to your side to see Bucky look down at his lap in disappointment. "I mean... We didn't really talk about it."
"Let's talk about it." Bucky said firmly and looked up at you again.
"Yes, good. I think we should have a vote."
"A vote?" You let out a laugh. "Nobody is going to vote anything. We're going to—"
"All in favour for Bucky and Y/N to grow a pair and finally get together, raise your hand."
You didn't actually think anyone would go along with it and raise their hand but they did. Everyone raised their hand. You couldn't help but let a small smile make its way on your lips and you looked at Bucky who was also raising his hand only a bit. "You guys are a bunch of dorks." Everyone seemed to ignore your comment.
"I think that settles it. You're now a couple so let's stop talking about this and go give Caden his presents."
"Oh, Caden." You sighed sadly. "This is what I was afraid of. We stole his thunder." You muttered.
Bucky rested his hand on your back and run it up and down soothingly. "Hey, it's okay. We'll go spend time with him now and everything will be okay. It's like nothing happened." He assured you and kissed the side of your head before standing up, leaving his hand resting on your shoulder.
"But something did happen. Did you see that kiss—" Tony was interrupted by his own groan of pain after Natasha had elbowed him in the stomach. "Cut it out, Tony." She warned him.
"C'mon," Bucky whispered and you brought your hand up to his, grabbed it and stood up yourself. You and the others headed towards the common room. You all sat down on the sofas surrounding the coffee table where all Caden's presents were set. You immediately recognised the gift Tony had given him. The present was tall, just about the same size as Caden. You felt yourself tense up immediately but you ignored the protective mother instincts and sat down next to Bucky.
Caden was so grateful for all the gifts that he got. He got a new t-shirt and some new shoes, the miniature Iron Man suit (you still felt very uneasy about Caden using it), a colouring book, some toys that he had on his wish list, a small panther statue that T'Challa said would keep him safe and gave happiness. It was very sweet. You knew how important the Black Panther was for T'Challa and his family. It was sweet of him to share that with Caden.
Last but not least, Caden opened the present Bucky had given him. Caden excitedly tore the wrapper apart and he stopped as he got a glimpse of what was inside. Caden turned to look at Bucky who encouraged him to go on and open it fully. As the whole gift was fully visible to everyone, Caden yelled out. "Look! I got the rocket ship!" And he looked so happy. "Mommy, look!" He said and turned it over so you saw the front side of the box.
"That's great!" You said and turned your attention towards Bucky. You placed a hand on his thigh and smiled up at him. "Thank you."
Bucky shrugged it off and dipped his head down enough to press his lips on yours but before he could...
"It's happening again!" Tony pointed at you two. "Get the camera!" He yelled and got up from his seat, jogging off to somewhere.
You and Bucky both sighed and pulled away. "Tony, you have security cameras all over the place. You can watch the footage later." You called out after him. "And can you guys not make a big deal out of this?" You pleaded. "It's really not that big of a deal."
Everyone looked at you like you were crazy. Some even rolled their eyes. "Not a big deal?" Tony asked in disbelief as he came back.
"This is the first time you've dated anyone since Caden's father and I was starting to think Bucky would end up alone."
"Hey!" Bucky yelled out, offended by what Sam said.
"He's just teasing you." You said, patting Bucky's chest. "And I didn't actually date him. But... Maybe it is a bit of a big deal." You muttered, finally admitting defeat. It was you against the other members of the team. There was no chance for you to win. "But can we just pretend that it's not? It's Caden's birthday. All the focus should be on him."
And so everyone stopped talking about you and Bucky. They focused all their attention on Caden who was playing with his new toys, showing them to everyone in the room.
Soon it came the time for you and Caden to leave. Of course Bucky tagged along since you forced him to get in the car with you for not wearing a helmet while driving on Steve's motorcycle. You said your goodbyes, multiple times, before you actually got to leave. "Okay, we've got to go now if Bucky's going to come back with Steve's motorcycle. If it's too late I might have to force you to stay over." You said and saw Bucky smirking at you. "Don't even," you laughed. "I'll make you sleep on the couch.
"Wait, you took my motorcycle?" Steve narrowed his eyes at Bucky.
"Crap," Bucky whispered. "Go, go!" He yelled out and took off running.
You just shook your head, took Caden's hand in yours and started walking towards the exist. "Don't worry Steve, he'll bring your motorcycle back in one piece."
"Yeah, he better." Steve muttered and waved to you one last time before leaving the room.
You grabbed a bag where you had put some of the gifts Caden had gotten. Bucky had taken the other bag. You looked at the small Iron Man suit one last time and looked at Tony again. "If you teach him how to fly that," you said, pointing at the suit," you better do it inside. You better make that room safe and I mean cushion the floors, walls and ceiling. You need to make that room as safe as possible."
"Will do, Super Mom." Tony nodded with a smile. "Are you really going to give me the permission to teach your son to fly his own Iron Man armour?"
"I'll think about it." You were never going to be fully okay with the idea of Caden flying that suit but you knew he'd be in good hands with Tony. It was a miniature version of his own current armour. That one worked so why wouldn't the miniature one?
You hugged Tony and thanked him before leaving the tower. When you made it to your car, you saw Bucky leaning against it with his helmet on, the strap still loosened. You chuckled, unlocked the car doors, threw the bags in the trunk while Bucky made sure Caden got in the car safe and that his seatbelt was fastened.
When you finally got in the car you looked to the passenger seat and saw that Bucky still had the helmet on his head. "Are you going to wear that the whole ride?"
"Oh, so now I'm being too safe?" Bucky snapped but in a humorous way. You couldn't help but chuckle at his reaction. You were actually very happy that he had to come back with you. You had an excuse to spend more time with him.
