Tanner was visiting your apartment before going over to pick up someone from the airport. He was in the living room with Ava while you were in your bedroom, getting dressed in something other than pajamas. You looked over at the mirror as you spun around, doubting the choice for a top you had put on. You shook your head after a while and took the top off before throwing it on your bed and began looking for something else.
Your phone rang and you reached over to your bed, seeing the name James flash on the screen. You smiled and answered the call, pressing the phone on your ear. "Hey, James," you said.
"Hey," you heard him say back. "I'm sorry, I'm late. A meeting ran a little long. I'm on my way."
"Good," you answered while holding the phone between your ear and shoulder, looking for something to wear.
"Do you need me to get anything? More diapers? Baby powder? Anything?"
"No but thank you," you chuckled. "We don't need anything. Just come here."
Suddenly, you heard the door opening and you exclaimed as you saw Tanner standing at the doorway. "Tanner, what the hell?" You yelled out, trying to cover your chest.
"Sorry, I just came to tell you I need to get going."
"Could you at least please knock before barging into my room?" You asked, sounding angry.
"What's going on?"
"Nothing, James. Just come over, bye." You huffed and ended the call, tossing your phone on your bed. "Tanner, seriously. Privacy, try to respect it."
Tanner rolled his eyes. "Sorry. I just really gotta go."
"Yeah, sure," you mumbled and picked up a soft sweater before walking out of the room.
"Before I go," Tanner began as you walked up to Ava who was on the couch, looking through a children's book. "I need to ask, how are things with you and Bucky?"
You sighed, shrugging. "I don't know. I hope we're moving forward. He said he wanted us all to be together, be a family..."
"So, you haven't talked about it after that, have you?"
"No." You answered truthfully.
"Communication is the key to a healthy relationship, my friend."
"Yeah, James and I need to communicate more, I know." You huffed, placing your hands on your hips. "I'll try to talk to him tonight."
You heard keys being inserted in the lock of your apartment door you walked over. The door opened and you saw Bucky standing at the doorway.
"Hi," you said with a warm smile and opened the door further to invite him.
"Hi," he replied. Seeing Tanner coming towards the door, his eyes narrowed. "Tanner," he said lowly.
"Bucky," Tanner replied with a smirk. "I was just about to leave, so... I'll see you around," he said, winking before he walked over to the already open door. "Bye."
"Bye," you called out before closing the door and turning to Bucky. You wrapped your arms around his shoulders and hugged him. "It's good to see you again."
"You too," he said and wrapped his arms around your back. "Why was Tanner here?" He asked as he pulled away and started walking towards the living room.
"He dropped by before going to get a friend from the airport."
Bucky nodded and walked around the corner, smiling instantly as his eyes found Ava. "Hey, sweetheart," he said and walked over to the couch, you following behind.
"Dada!" Ava exclaimed and stood up on the couch, opening her arms and waited for Bucky to get to her. He was quick to swoop her up in his arms and give her a big kiss on the forehead and cheek.
You walked up to the two and ran your knuckles over Ava's cheek while your other hand was placed on Bucky's shoulder. You saw him turning his head towards you and you turned to look at him as well. Your faces were very close and you found yourself letting out a quiet gasp. You cleared your throat and took a step back. "I was gonna make some dinner. You hungry?" You asked.
Bucky frowned but nodded. "Yeah, I kinda am."
You smiled, taking Ava's hand in yours and kissing her knuckles before running your thumb gently over her cheek. "Okay, mommy's gonna make you some food now," you told her and shot Bucky a quick smile before going over to the kitchen, leaving Bucky and Ava alone.

While you were sat at the dinner table, watching Bucky and Ava interacting while eating, you couldn't help but just stop and stare at them for a while. It was so nice, so heart-warming seeing them interacting with each other.
"Y/N," Bucky suddenly called out and you jumped. You realized you had zoned off and shook your head, chuckling. "Is everything alright?"
"You worry too much, James," you smiled, reaching over and placing your hand on his free one. "I'm fine. I just love watching you two," you admitted shyly with your cheeks heating up and you pulled your hand back. You turned back to your food, almost not noticing the smile Bucky's lips harbored.
"So, how's... work?" You asked, trying to make some small talk. You didn't do it to fill in the silence that took place after your confession, you did it because you wanted to know what was going on in his life. He couldn't tell you everything that went down with the Avengers and other superheroes from around the world and galaxy but you wanted to know the small things. You wanted to know if he was stressed. You wanted to help him the best you could if he was.
He shrugged, not knowing what to say. "It's... overwhelming at times. Can be quite stressful, we're responsible for the entire Earth population, you know?" He said as if you were supposed to understand.
You shook your head. "No, I don't know," you said quietly. "It must be hard."
Bucky shrugged again, turning to look at Ava who was munching away. "It's worth it," he said quietly and reached out to wipe away some food from her face before turning to you with a smile. "I have a good reason to fight."
His voice was low. Low enough for you to think he didn't mean he did it for everyone else on Earth but for you and Ava so he could keep you safe. Of course he wanted to keep others safe as well but you and Ava were a priority for him. It made you happy but concerned at the same time.
"I worry about you, you know?" You admitted while looking down. "Whenever you go on missions... I can't help but think if—"
"You worry too much, Y/N," he quoted you with a smug smile.
You chuckled but a smile didn't form on your face. "I'm not saying this to make you feel guilty and backtrack. I can't make you do that. The world needs you."
"Yeah, well..."
"It does, James," you said sternly. "You don't seem to believe that."
"What purpose do I have?" He asked. He didn't seem to be upset, just curious. "I'm just a guy with a metal arm."
"You're a guy with a metal arm, yes. You're also a super soldier, enhanced strength and all. You've achieved high skill in marksmanship, using weaponry, martial arts—"
"Okay, I get it," Bucky chuckled, holding his hand up for you to stop.
A small smile appeared on your lips and you continued. "But most of all, you're a hero. And a great father. I don't know how that has anything to do with saving the world but it's still important."
"Thank you," Bucky said quietly.
"Thank you," you said before you fell quiet and finished with dinner.

You and Bucky were getting Ava ready for a nap. She was currently in her crib, lying on her back with her feet up, hands grasping onto them. She giggled, smiling wide as you looked down at her. You laughed, running your knuckles over her cheek. "You're so silly," you chuckled and leaned down to nuzzle your nose on hers before kissing it. "Have a great nap, sweetie."
You pulled back and looked at Bucky who was smiling fondly at you two. His hand was on the rail, inching closer to yours but he heard Ava gurgling. He turned to her, seeing her making grabby hands at him. You and Bucky both chuckled and you stepped away, watching Bucky placing a hand on Ava's cheek and leaning down to kiss her forehead. As he was about to pull away, Ava placed her small hands on either side of Bucky's head and kissed his forehead as well, making you let out another laugh. Oh, how you loved watching those two interacting.
You and Bucky left her room and walked over to the living room, taking a seat on the couch. You sighed deeply, sinking down against the back of the couch and turned to Bucky who seemed a little uncomfortable.
"Are we going to talk?" He asked, running his hands over his knees.
"We should," you chuckled, picking at your nails. "But are we gonna?"
Bucky let out a little laugh himself. "We're pretty good at avoiding confrontation."
"That we are..."
Bucky raised his arm and laid it behind you on the backrest. He lifted one of his legs and crossed it on the couch, turning his body towards yours. You quickly straightened your posture and cleared your throat, feeling your cheeks heat up as you looked at him
"We're really bad at talking, aren't we?" He asked quietly after you had been silent for a while.
You nodded. "Yeah, we are." There was no hiding the two of you needed to work on your communication skills.
"Maybe we're better at... doing?" Bucky sounded unsure as his gaze fell down to your hands that were fiddling on your lap.
You found yourself raising a brow at his comment. You felt his hand on your thigh, gently placed, not groping or anything. You sucked in a breath as he looked at you through his lashes, a curious yet hopeful look on his face. You swallowed, hard. "Maybe."
Bucky's lips flickered upwards only slightly and he raised a brow as well. You nodded, figuring he was asking for permission. You weren't quite sure what he was asking permission for but you were excited.
He started leaning in slowly and the heat in your cheeks returned. Your gaze fell to his lips as he licked them. Your heart started beating faster as you realized you were finally going to kiss him again.
He placed his hand on the side of your face, sliding his fingers down to your chin and pulling you slightly towards him. You lifted your hand to the back of his neck and you closed your eyes.
Your skin felt warm, it tingled with the feeling of his touch. You were basically shuddering at the mere thought of his lips on yours, a sensation you hadn't felt in years. You remember his kisses being the best you had ever had. It hadn't been solely based on the technique but the feelings you two had shared. Your feelings had only made it much better and you could not wait.
You felt his breathing on your face and you lifted your other hand to the back of his neck as well, pulling him closer. His lips grazed yours and just as you were about to close the remaining space between you, you heard his phone ringing.
He pulled away and you did too, lowering your hands to his shoulders. He grabbed his phone from his pocket and you huffed. "You've got to be kidding me!" You exclaimed in frustration and pulled away from him completely. You slumped back on the couch and crossed your arms as Bucky answered the call.
"Hello?" He asked, clearing his throat. "What?" He practically exclaimed and stood up from the couch. You looked at him, quite curious about what he had just been told. "Okay, I'm on my way." He ended the call and started walking to the door.
"Where.... Where are you going?" You asked, pushing yourself off the couch.
"Just got a call," he said, continuing his way while you ran after him.
"Yeah, I see that," you snapped, still annoyed at the interruption. "What's going on? What's the rush?"
"They need me."
"What the hell is going on?" You asked, watching him in confusion as he looked through the coat rack, looking around as he didn't find what he was looking for.
"Just... stuff," he said, throwing his hands in the air. "Where's my jacket?"
"You didn't bring one!" You yelled out, walking over to him and placing your hands on his shoulders. "James, you're scaring me," you told him with your brows furrowed.
"You don't need to worry, okay?" He said, breathing quite heavily. He really was in a rush. "Everything's fine, just an emergency call. I'll be fine, I'll see you later," he said and leaned in to place a quick kiss on your lips. "Bye!" He called out and soon he was out the door.
You watched the door close, jumping at the loud thump. You were frozen in place, hands in front of you as you continued to stare at the door.
He had just kissed you.
Soon, after getting over the initial shock, your brows furrowed and you let your hands fall to your sides.
"That was it?" You asked out loud, annoyed. "That was it?" You repeated and sighed in disappointment.
He had kissed you, pecked your lips. That was the moment you had been waiting for but you had been waiting for something a bit more... romantic and passionate. The peck was underwhelming, leaving you a little upset.
You sighed once more and turned around, shrugging. "Well... It's out of the way, I guess," you muttered sadly to yourself, gently kicking over a toy Ava had left on the floor.
You ran your hand over your face and just as you were about to check on Ava to see if she had woken up or if she had slept through everything, you heard the door opening behind you.
Your brows raised as you saw Bucky standing there, his eyes trained on you.
Before you could ask him if something was wrong, if he had forgotten something, he strolled over to you. His hands were firmly placed on your arms and he leaned in, crashing his lips on yours almost forcefully.
You gasped but quickly got over the surprise you were feeling. You started moving your lips against his, sighing into the kiss as his hands grasped your hips. You wrapped your arms around his neck and continued kissing him.
Now that was the kiss you had been expecting.
He pulled back, both of you breathing heavily. You still kept your arms around him as his wrapped around your waist. You moved a strand of hair away from his face and let out a chuckle. "Woah," you said breathlessly, speechless.
Bucky chuckled too, gazing down at you with so much love behind his eyes. "I'm sorry about before, this should have been the first kiss after—"
"Shut up," you laughed and pulled him in for another kiss.
You felt Bucky smile against your lips which only had the same effect on you. He leaned forward, making you bend backwards as the kiss got more heated, his tongue swiping against your bottom lip. Just as you were about to allow its access, you heard a car honking outside. Bucky quickly pulled away from you. "I really need to go. That's my ride."
"But you came here with a car, right? Are you just going to leave it here?"
"I'll come get it later, maybe come up to... see you again?"
"Okay, sure." You nodded, walking him to the door. "Be careful," you said, leaning against the door as he walked away.
He looked back at you, walked over and kissed you softly once more. You heard the car honking outside again.
"No, yeah, I really have to go."
You laughed, pushing him away and telling him to go. He shot you one last look accompanied with a smile and he ran down the stairs. Soon, you heard the car driving off.
You stayed at the door, moving your fingers up to your lips as a smile took over your face again. Your lips felt like they were tingling. You couldn't help but giggle at what had just happened. You bit your lip before turning around and walking into the apartment. You hummed a melody to yourself as you flopped down onto the couch, feeling happier than you had in a while.
You found yourself touching your lips again, smiling. He had finally kissed you and you couldn't wait to find out how your relationship would escalate from here.
