Sunday Breakfast

Stevie greeted Lindsey in the bathroom as she brushed past him to turn on the shower.

"Hey there, handsome" she says, kissing his back and wrapping her arms around him.

"Good morning, beautiful"

"Did you sleep well?"

"Very well. After last night, how could I not?"

She blushes. "Hush!"

"I mean, my god! You're so good, babe. Every time, after all these years. Damn!"

"Linds..."

"Alright, alright. I don't want to embarrass you. Just showing you some appreciation for your gifts"

"Thank you, honey"

"Anyway, are the girls coming for breakfast?"

"Every Sunday" Stevie says, taking off her robe and she steps into the shower, letting the water pelt her skin. Lindsey and Stevie missed the chaos once the girls had moved out on their own. They had made a great effort to stay connected and Sunday Breakfast was one of those beloved gatherings. "Stop looking at me. The glass is frosted for a reason!" She says and she hears him laugh.

"What can I say? Thirty years of marriage and I still think my wife is a fox!"

"Enough, old man"

"Why you gotta hurt my pride, mama?" He jokes.

"Oh baby, you know I don't mean it" She continues to wash her hair and go about the rest of her routine. She turns the water off and Lindsey grabs her towel for her hair and her bathrobe. "Do you know when they will be here?" She asks, returning to their previous conversation.

"Huh?"

"My eyes are up here. Talk to me" She tried to make her husband focus, thought his eyes would continue to wonder.

"Something about the girls..."

"Did they tell you a time? They text you all the time, I'm sure you know"

"They text you too but you never seem to have your phone"

"I use it for pictures" she says.

"It's too expensive to be used as a camera. You could use it for emergencies at least"

"That's what the fire phone is for"

"Ugh...we are getting nowhere." He says, shaking his head. This conversation has happened many times over the years and knew he would only change when she saw fit. "Lily said she will be coming after class"

"She hates that class. It's the only one she needs to graduate and it was only available on Sunday"

"I know. Thankfully she will be out soon and start her career in Graphic Design"

"That's true" Stevie bends over a little to towel dry her hair and he watches her, smiling at her just like when they were young. Still so taken by her. "And Sara?"

"Sara will be here in an hour" Lindsey says, glancing at the clock.

"An hour? I have nothing started!" she says, panicking.

"Relax, it's okay. She will probably want to help anyway." He smoothes her shoulders, brushing her hair aside to give her a gentle kiss. "I'm going to get dressed"

"I will get done faster without you groping me anyway" He smacks her butt, causing her to yelp and he leaves the room. She chuckles and quickly gets ready. She goes to her closet and pulls on a loose fitting black top and black leggings. She returns to the bathroom to do her makeup and fix her hair. Her hair fell in long waves down her back and she smiled at her appearance. She goes downstairs, finding Sara already in the kitchen with Lindsey.

"Hey, mama!" Sara says, greeting her mother with a hug and kiss on the cheek.

"Hello, my sweet girl." The tall blonde girl was the spitting image of her mother as a young woman, right down to the brown eyes and her flair for song. She was even in a band, lead singer. She wore a pair of skinny jeans, black combat boots and a Zeppelin tee shirt. "What happened to your shirt?" She asks, examining the variety of pin holes and a couple of the larger ones by the neckline.

She chuckles. "It's the style. It's made this way"

"It looks like you ran out of moth balls"

"You're so old-fashioned" Sara says, shaking her head with a brilliant smile on her face.

"Classic!" Lindsey chimes in.

"No, just old, honey. Very, very old" Stevie said, getting ready to cook. "Are omelettes alright or do you have a special request?"

"Lil and I love your omelettes. I will help chop the inside stuff" she says and Stevie feels so much pride. She doesn't have to do a thing, just merely existing makes her mother so very happy. There was a time when she didn't believe she would get to have any children. They tried and tried and the doctors could find nothing wrong with either of them. Still, she was met with disappointment every month. That is, until Sara, her miracle, was conceived then 4 years later, Lily was born.

The women sing to the radio and cook while water-burning Lindsey played on his phone. "Lily will be here in twenty minutes" he announced.

"Awesome" Stevie said, going back to singing with her daughter. In no time, the second Buckingham baby girl arrived. She dropped her tote bag on the floor by the door and took off her boots.

"Mommy!" Lily squealed, kissing her mother. She then proceeded to greet her big sister and finally her father. "You look pretty" she told her mother.

"Thank you sweetheart. How was class?"

"A drag, mama. It was literally the worst" she says, twirling a dark curl between her fingers. Stevie notices Lily has a new blue streak in her long brown hair that fell over her left ear. She tucks it back, sitting down at the kitchen island. "I'm sorry I'm late. That class sucks but it's my last one."

"I'm so proud of you." Sara said and Stevie's pride swelled once more. Her girls were very close. "You're doing great in school"

"Thanks, sis!"

"I'm proud too, you know" Lindsey says, coming to sit next to his younger daughter.

"Thanks, Daddy" He wraps an arm around her and kisses her hair.

"Smells good, ladies"

"Almost done" Sara says.

"Will one of you grab plates?" Stevie asks.

"I will, baby" Lindsey says. He hands her a plate and she finishes up his omelette first, then Lily's since all the ingredients were cooked and they were pretty quick to finish up with it all prepped. Third was Sara then last was of course Stevie's. Everyone pitched in to help her clean up before sitting down. Conversation came easy and it was cheerful. So much laughter and the girls were constantly talking over each other.

"I love them" Stevie mouthed, taking Lindsey's hand under the table and giving it a little squeeze.

"Me too" he mouthed back.
