kristy's big day.
Weddings.
What do you think of when you see/hear the word weddings?
I think of a woman in a beautiful white dress walking down the aisle to meet her handsome husband.
She looks very beautiful, with her hair in a braid crown and flowers sticking out of it.
Her husband watches her every move, with a shimmer in his eye.
They're really in love.
I also think of cake.
I really do love cake.
Of course, this was a fake wedding between Karen and David Michael, with Louise as a bridesmaid.
"Unless someone changes their mind, which they do all the time." Kristy explained to the children, being the priest.
I looked at her with a 'seriously' look on my face.
"We're all children of divorce or death, Kristy. Get to the good part." Karen smiled, holding a bouquet of white flowers.
"Just do whatever she says." David Michael admitted.
"Prepared for marriage already. Okay! Do you, Karen Amaryllis Brewer, take David Michael Thomas to be your lawfully wedded husband?" Kristy asked the little blonde.
"Wait. What's his middle name?" Karen asked.
"Michael. David Michael Thomas."
"So. Three first names. Weird. But, I do!" Karen answered, eyeing the boy up and down.
"And do you, David Michael Thomas, take Karen Amaryllis Brewer to be your lawfully wedded wife?" Kristy asked her brother.
The two kids looked at each other.
"As long as it's just pretend."
"So now, by the power vested in me by the state of Connecticut, I now pronounce you husband and-"
"Kristy, Bubbles, can you take the kids outside to play, please?" Ms.Thomas requested.
Ginny walked in with a magazine of hair styles.
She was actually pretty cool.
She was like my cool gay aunt.
Except in this situation, she's my moms cool gay girlfriend, which is alright too.
She's also a hairdresser.
"We haven't even kissed yet!" Karen exclaimed.
"And I didn't get to break the glass!" David Michael added, holding up the glass glass.
(*giggles*)
"It's not a Jewish wedding, sweetheart." Ginny reminded the boy, showing Ms.Thomas a hairstyle.
The blonde woman nodded, smiling at it.
"But it would be cool to smash something!"
"Yes it would. Outside!" Ms.Thomas told her son.
"And I didn't get to reveal that I was in love with David Michael and he would leave Karen for me!" Louise bickered.
Ginny laughed while Ms.Thomas was speechless.
"Anyways, outside would be a better place for the ceremony." Kristy told her mother.
"Yes. But six generations of Brewers have been married in this room, apparently. So I'm not gonna be the one to break that tradition. Go." Ms.Thomas explained.
"Maybe there's a ghost in here or something." Ginny joked in her high pitched voice, as Louise walked over to her and looked at the magazine.
"Wait. What's on your head?" Ms.Thomas asked Karen.
"Grammy Brewer brought it from the vault." Karen smiled, patting the tiara.
"Yes, for me, to borrow. If you loose one stone on that tiara, you're gonna be paying for that out of your allowance for the next seven hundred years." Ms.Thomas explained to the blonde girl.
"It's, VERY heavily insured." Karen shot at her, and walked away.
"Aren't you a little old for a tiara?" Kristy asked her mom.
"Tell that to the queen."
"Me, obviously." I said, flipping my blonde hair.
A honk of a car was heard outside.
"Oh, crap." I muttered.
I got up from my chair and stood next to Ginny.
"How much longer do we need to be here?" I asked, as Ms.Thomas and Kristy went outside.
"We can leave if you want. What's wrong?" Ginny asked, closing the magazine and feeling my forehead, "Are you sick?"
"No. It's just that...HE'S here."
Ginny's eyes widened.
"You don't mean..."
"HIM."
She reached into her pocket and pulled out her car keys.
"Grab Louise, get into the car, go out the back. I'll be there in three minutes tops."
I nodded and grabbed Louise's hand, leading her out the back door.
••••
"Boys are horrible." I muttered into my pillow, as Ginny softly brushed my hair.
"That's why I'm a lesbian."
"Where's my mom, anyways?" I asked, turning over.
"She's working. She'll be back by ten." Ginny answered, putting away her brush.
"He really hates me. He should've told me before wasting three years of my life." I groaned, grabbing my face.
"Hey. He doesn't hate you. You two are just in a bad vibe right now. It sucks, but it's gonna get better. Okay?" Ginny assured me.
I sighed.
"Okay."
I turned the other way in my bed.
"Tomorrow is the wedding." Ginny pointed out.
I nodded.
"I'll make you look like Cinderella, honey. You just wait and see."
••••
Ginny and my mom climbed out of the front seats in the morning, going to Ginny's
hair salon.
"Let's go, Louise." I whispered, helping her out of the car.
"Are you gonna dance with Sam tonight?" She asked with wide eyes.
I laughed.
"No."
"Got it!" Ginny announced, opening the door.
I grabbed Louise's hand and went onto the sidewalk, going into the little place.
"It's so white." Louise pointed out, while my mom laughed.
"It really is. Lola, can you do Louise's makeup?" Ginny asked, while my mom nodded.
Ginny gently grabbed my shoulders and set me down on the chair.
"So...I have this perfect hairstyle that will make Sam drool over you-"
"Ginny. I'm not trying to seduce him." I interrupted.
"I know that," She laughed, feeling my blonde hair.
"I'm just gonna make him fall in love."
••••
Ginny placed some fake flowers in my mom and Louise's braid crowns.
"I feel like a princess." Louise smiled proudly.
"You look like a princess." My mom laughed.
Ginny walked over to me and finished placing the blush on my cheeks.
"Okay...I've finished."
I looked up at my hair.
"Oh my goodness! You look like a princess!" Louise squealed.
"No I don't." I told her.
"I'm the queen."
••••
"Poofy dress! Poofy dress!" Louise teased me in the car while driving to the wedding, poking my sleeve.
"It's not that poofy!" I defended.
Louise had on a yellow dress with a little bow on the side, my mom had on a tight light blue dress, and Ginny had on a dark green loose jumpsuit, which she was rocking.
"Uhm, it's IS that poofy!" My mom laughed, pulling into the driveway, which wasn't too packed yet.
"Poofy dress! Poofy dress!" Ginny teased playfully, pointing at me from the front.
I rolled my eyes at them and opened the door, my white heels hitting the ground.
"Okay. Come with me to find Kristy, I'm gonna do Liz's hair." Ginny smiled, the pant legs on her jumpsuit moving a little while she grabbed my hand.
"We'll be at the mini bar." My mom laughed.
"I'll be getting a kitty cocktail!" Louise pointed out, grabbing my moms hand.
"I love it when everything works out smoothly." Ginny smiles proudly.
She turned to my mom and pecked her lips, while Louise fake gagged.
"Well, lets get going." Ginny smiled, walking me into the building.
We walked up the stairs and Ginny stopped in front of a doorway and knocked.
"Hey Lizzy! I'm here with Leah." She introduced.
Ms.Thomas looked up and smiled.
"Oh, Bubbles! You look amazing! I hope she does the same to me." Ms.Thomas joked.
"Honey, you will be BOOGIEING down the aisle." Ginny laughed, walking into the room.
"Bubbles, Kristy is all the way down the hallway." Ms.Thomas informed me.
"Thank you!" I smiled, walked down the hallway while my heels made noises.
"Knocky knock knock!" I whispered, looking into the room.
Kristy turned around with her baby blue dress and flower crown.
"I'm gonna cry. I feel like you're leaving." I fake sniffled, going into the room and hugging her.
"Me?! You should see you! You look like sleeping beauty!" Kristy exaggerated.
I pulled away form the hug and rolled my eyes playfully.
I went over to Karen and sat next to her.
She patted the sleeve of my dress.
"Poofy."
"I seriously think you and Louise are related."
"Knock knock! How's it going in there? Can I see?" Ms.Thomas asked from outside.
She opened the door and looked at her daughter.
"What do you think?" Kristy asked.
"You look so beautiful." Ms.Thomas whispered, admiring the dress.
I smiled at the two.
"But what happened to the yellow dress?"
"It looked like a banana." Karen said.
"Watson said I could get a different one. Don't you like it?" Kristy laughed.
"I-I think it's lovely, but...did you get a refund for the other dress?" Ms.Thomas asked.
"Uh, it had already been altered, but Watson said not to worry about it." Kristy smiled.
"How much did it cost?" Ms.Thomas asked.
"Eight hundred dollars. I saw the price tag." Karen told her soon to be step mom.
"Kristy! That's outrageous! I mean, since when do you care about stuff like that?" Ms.Thomas asked.
"Uhm, if I maybe add, he bought your son a car, Ms.Thomas." I said to her, lifting up my finger.
Kristy and Ms.Thomas looked at me with looks that could kill.
"Oh, look at that door! I'll be headed out there now." I awkwardly excused myself, getting up and walking out the door.
I walked down the hallway with my heels clicking and my hair flopping up and down with every step I took.
I walked down the stairs carefully.
And I saw the one dude I absolutely didn't want to see.
Sam fucking Thomas.
I felt my palms start sweating.
He looked over at me and eyed me up and down.
But then he started walking over to me.
Crap oh my god should I run? Let's go to Maine. Yes, Maine sounds amazing. Ooh! Or Canada. Okay, Leah, you need to stop thinking about things like this right now-AND...he's standing right in front of you.
Sam looked down at me with sad eyes.
"Hey, Leah."
"Hey, Sam."
"I r-really like your hair. And your dress. And your shoes. I just...really like what your wearing." He stuttered.
I nodded respectfully.
"Thank you, Sam Thomas."
He nodded back at me.
"Well, I have to grab Ginny for the wedding." I whispered, pointing to the stairs.
"Well, I'll see you there."
"Yes."
I turned and headed up the stairs.
••••
I sat in the aisle seat with Louise next to me and my mom and Ginny talking to each other next to her.
Mary Ann and Mr.Spier arrived.
"Hey guys!" I smiled, looking back at them.
"Hey Bubbles!" Mary Ann smiled.
"I'm gonna get a drink. Do you two want anything?" Mr.Spier asked us.
We both looked at him awkwardly.
"Right."
He got up and went to get a drink.
"There's Mary Ann and Bubbles!" Stacey told Mimi, as they walked into the room.
"Hey!" I smiled, as they sat in the row behind us.
Mr.Spier came back and drank all of his champagne.
"I don't know what to do with this." He told his daughter.
Mary Ann took it and placed it under the seat.
Watson came to the front and Louise frantically slapped my thigh.
"It's happening! It's happening!" She fan-girled.
"No it's not. It's a tribal ritual they do before the wedding." I sassed to her.
Louise rolled her eyes.
Beautiful violins started playing, and Charlie and Sam walked down the aisle.
Once they got to the front, they stood on the right side of Watson.
Sam sent a small smile to me.
I smiled back, sarcastically, bringing to fingers to my forehead for a salute.
Once I moved they away from my forehead, I flipped him off.
(Sarah Cameron is shaking in her boots)
I could tell he was trying not to laugh.
Next, it was Andrew and David Michael with the rings.
(kahwgwywkksksnsns 🥺🥺)
Then, Kristy came.
I pretended to wipe away tears and take pictures of her, which made her smile and look away from me.
She got to the front and sent Watson a small smile.
After Kristy, it was Karen, who looked like a queen on a runway gently tossing flowers on the ground.
"Oh my goodness, we're so sorry."
"So sorry."
I turned and saw Ms.Shafer and Dawn, frantically running in the room.
I laughed and them and covered my mouth.
Wedding March started playing, which meant we had to stand up for Ms.Thomas.
She looked so beautiful.
So happy.
So excited.
I could tell that she was just...really happy that this was happening.
The blonde woman arrived at the front and started with glee at her soon-to-be husband.
Esmè arrived at the front.
"You may sit!"
Karen let out a shriek.
"It's okay. This little girl thinks I'm a witch. So in front of this room of witnesses, I would like to say that she's right." Esmè told the crowd.
Karen gasped and Louise gripped onto my arm.
"I am a spiritual practitioner. Now, historically, the term 'witch' has been used to describe people, primarily women, who refuse to conform to society's expectations of who they should be."
Esmè pointed to the row of me, my mom, Ginny and Louise.
"We got a whole row of witches here and more."
I laughed and wiggled my fingers at her, while my mom and Ginny smiled.
"When children tell you something, believe em. Now, lets get this party started."
••••
"I now pronounce you, husband and wife!"
A shatter was heard, and we turned to David Michael.
"I did it! I broke the glass!" He cheered, while we all laughed.
Mrs.Thomas and Watson kissed, and we all applauded them.
I wiped my tears away and smiled, seeing the love bloom before my eyes.
••••
I walked into the after party with Stacey, Claudia, Dawn and Mary Ann, and rushed over to the cake table, grabbing a strawberry one.
"Cake." I whispered, before shoving a fork full into my mouth, while the girls stood next to me.
"Ew!" I exclaimed, pulling a leaf out of my mouth, "who puts leaves on cake?!"
"That's basil and you're not supposed to eat it." Mary Ann told me.
"Well, someone should've told me that before almost killing me!"
Kristy walked in, and we all rushed towards her.
"Kristy, you look so pretty!" Claudia complimented.
"That dress!" Mary Ann said.
"You look gorgeous." Dawn added.
"I love it." I smiled, frosting on my lips.
"How do you feel?" Mary Ann asked.
"Fine. I'm fine."
"That's a lie if I could see one in the air." I scoffed, shoving more cake in my mouth.
"Uhm, have you guys seen my mom?" Kristy asked.
"I think she's still doing photos." Mary Ann answered.
"Guys look at that! Oh my gosh!" Stacey laughed, pointing at Mr.Spier and Ms.Schafer.
"Think he'll propose tonight?" Dawn asked.
"He has had like...one third a glass of champagne." Mary Ann whispered.
"If anyone's proposing tonight, it's Lola to Ginny. Their already in lala land." Claudia giggled.
I looked over and saw the two, laughing at something with Esmè, a wine glass in each of their hands.
"I would be okay with that." I nodded.
"And now! Presenting the happy couple! Watson and Elizabeth Brewer!" Esmè said in the microphone.
Everyone cheered as the happy couple walked in the room and started dancing.
I shoved the second to last piece of cake in my mouth.
"They're really in love." Claudia said.
"Yeah." Kristy whispered.
I turned to the sad girl and kissed her cheek gently, which made her blush.
"I wish Trever was here." Claudia said to Stacey and I.
"I wish Cece was here." I whispered.
"Who's Cece?" Claudia, Dawn and Kristy asked.
"That's a story of another time." Stacey laughed, "but I do wish Toby was here."
"Hey, Bubbles?"
We all looked over and saw Sam.
"Wanna dance?"
"Oh, Sam." I whispered, walking over to him with the plate in my hand, "I would, really, but-"
Stacey grabbed myself shoulders and turned me around, taking the plate out of my hand, wiping my lips, brushing off my dress and brushing my shoulders.
The blonde turned me over to Sam.
"She's all yours."
I smiled and Sam grabbed my hand, leading my on the dance floor.
"This is...romantic?" I said, but it came out like a question.
"We're getting back into the vibe. I know it." Sam smiled.
I laughed at him.
"Hey. I just wanna say I'm sorry for what I said on the phone. I just...was mad at myself for keeping a secret from you. And I probably won't do it again." Sam said.
"Probably? What does that mean?" I laughed.
"If there's a surprise party, I'm not telling you." Sam scoffed sarcastically.
"Oh! Yes! That's the only lie I'm letting you get away with!" I smiled brightly at him, while we danced gently.
••••
"Mmm! Oh my god. This vanilla custard...I don't even care if it's not vegan." Dawn said, loving the cake.
I stuffed a cupcake in my mouth.
"I just keep checking my levels, cause sugar town, here I come!" Stacey laughed.
"I am so, so happy right now." Mary Ann whispered.
I took a sip of my sparking grape juice.
Kristy sat down and began eating cake with a sour face.
"Everything okay?" I asked.
"Fine! I'm fine, Bubbles." Kristy told me with wide eyes and a mouth full of cake.
"You don't look fine. You feeling okay?" I asked.
Kristy didn't answer, but stuffed the top of a cupcake in her mouth.
I noticed that her face was a little pale.
I took the back of my hand and placed it against her forehead.
"You're kinda hot. Do you need some fresh air?" I asked.
"No. I'm fine." Kristy said, "It's just crowded in here."
"Woo! Quick carbo load before the next hour on the dance floor! Mmm!" Ms.Schafer cheered, eating some cake.
Dawn smiled at Stacey, but then turned and saw what her mom was eating.
"Mom no! No, no, no! That's-That's Nutella! hazelnut!" Dawn informed her mom.
Ms.Schafer let out a shriek and began wiping the cake off her tongue with a napkin.
"What's the matter?!" Kristy asked.
"She's allergic to tree nuts! Cashews, hazelnuts, all kinds." Dawn explained.
"So she made my mom freak out over fish, but forgot to mention she's allergic to nuts?!" Kristy panicked, "That's like the most common allergy ever."
"There's a Epipen in the car-"
"It's alright, Dawn, I've got her." Mr.Spier assured the girl.
"Really?" Dawn asked.
"You stay. Enjoy yourself. You mothers in very good hands." Mr.Spier smiled.
"Oh Richie. I'm just gonna stare at you until my left eye swells shut."
Kristy stood up and headed out of the tent.
"Kris?" I called out.
I grabbed a piece of cake and went outside, looking for her.
She went into Watson's house.
"Kristy! Are you okay?!" I called out.
"I-I'm fine, Bubbles. Just go back." She said, going into the bathroom.
"I'm not leaving until you tell me you're okay!" I yelled at her, pounding on the door.
"Oh gosh." I heard her whisper.
"You okay?" I asked.
"I-I...I think I'm dying."
"What? Kris, you're not dying. What's wrong?" I asked.
"T-There's blood."
I giggled a little bit.
"Honey, you got your period. It's okay. You're not dying." I assured her.
"Really?"
"Yes! It's gonna be fine."
The other girls arrived.
"Is she okay?" Dawn asked.
"S-She's fine." I laughed, "Do any of you have a pad?"
Mary Ann nodded, opening her purse and handing me one.
I gave my cake to Claudia and put my hand on the doorknob.
"Heads up."
I opened the door and tossed it in there.
"Open it up, take the padding part out, put it in your underwear where it feels appropriate, and put the flaps under it. Okay?" I explained to her.
About two minutes later, she came out.
"Oh. You're all here." Kristy said.
Claudia handed me my cake.
"Did you take a bit out of it?" I asked the little girl.
"Your dress is poofy." The small girl smiled.
I heard the honk of a horn.
"Oh. They're leaving." I laughed awkwardly.
Kristy rushed out of the bathroom.
I looked at a clock and saw it was around eleven at night.
"Crap. I have to get going." I whispered.
I followed Kristy outside and saw Sam.
"Dude, where have you been? Moms been looking for you." Sam told his sister.
Kristy went over to the car.
"Hey, Sam, do you know where Ginny and my mom are?" I asked.
"Oh, yeah, Lola took Louise home." Sam told me, walking inside while I followed.
"Do you know where Ginny is?" I asked.
"Well, she said to me that she's gonna rent a car and drive here and get more wine." Sam explained.
"Oh. Nice." I smiled.
We walked into tent.
"C-Can I show you something?" Sam asked.
"Sure." I smiled.
He grabbed my hand and grabbed a piece of cake, taking me to Watson's house.
We went up the stairs and into a room with a deck.
"W-What's this?" I asked.
Sam flipped a light switch and fairy lights turn on on the deck.
"This is Karen's play room. Never been used." Sam smiled.
"It's beautiful." I said in awe.
"Wanna sit?" He asked.
I nodded, and he lead me over and we sat on the ground, eating cake.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
Sam looked up at me.
"Huh?"
"With Watson and Liz. Are you okay?" I asked.
"Oh. Yeah. It's cool." Sam smiled.
"It really is." I giggled, eating more cake.
I looked up at the stars.
"Stars are so pretty." I smiled.
"Not as pretty as bubbles." Sam pointed out.
I looked at him.
"Would it be so bad if I kissed you?" I asked.
Sam through for a second.
"No."
I dropped my fork and wrapped my arms around him neck, kissing his lips gently.
We kissed for about thirty seconds before he pulled away.
"I should be asking if you're okay."
"What do you mean?"
"Lola proposed to Ginny."
"WHAT?!"
