All the Wishes
Little penny of 1804
One amongst many at the bottom of the lake
Tempting, it is, to have one penny more
But cruel it would be, for a wish I would take.
Yes, each tiny penny a wish
And each silver dime a dream
A hopeful young child threw it in with a swish
And there it sits and gleams.
All the wishes of those gone and dead
Mementos of the past
I shall not break the thin and fragile thread
These memories were meant to last.
So instead I will just thrown my own penny in
And then, I guess everyone wins.
