Three
Sometimes, when she sliced into a gray, she could hear a scream. They rejected the pop of color their tainted existence could bring but she rejected their rejection. Clearly, one of them was better at rejecting.
Even as they came at her, they also ran away. It was a paradox she couldn't understand. Unknowns came at her and unknowns left her.
She hated them. They reminded her of how terrible it had been. . .no, it couldn't have been real. Otherwise, how could her world still shine so brightly?
The necklace still dangled. A picture framed there of two individuals who still existed next to her. They hadn't dimmed yet. That couldn't be true.
She sliced through the grays as she carved the doubts from her mind.
The two most important people to her egged her on.
"On your left." Her mother told her and she sliced there.
"On your right." Her father said and she sliced there too.
The grays toppled as she smiled. The two brightest, prettiest, colors in her world still existed. Guiding her as they had always done. A world without them wasn't reality.
A shock forced her footsteps to an end as electricity ran through her body. She shuddered and struggled to stay up. The world blurred out of focus. Colors disappeared and her world spun. Then, she blinked as a face appeared before her, a weapon in grasp and two wires connected to her.
"Finally!" Dressed in uniform, the man yelled, rage crossing his face.
