It was the first day of school, and I had been at my locker talking to Brooke. She was some girl I met sometime after Christine. I didn't... feel the same kind of way I felt for Christine... my friendship with Brooke felt fake... Well, I guess since I still hang out with her, feels fake...
"Wasn't summer awesome, Chloe?" Brooke giggled and started putting some books in her locker and pulling out a bag for lunch. She had short blonde hair, freckles, and blue eyes. She wore a yellow cardigan and a bright pink dress and boots. Brooke was only a little bit shorter than Chloe.
Chloe hadn't been paying much attention. She still felt bad for ditching Christine... she tried to think of things she could to to atone for the way she acted. She could try texting her? What about writing a letter and putting it at her locker? Well, whenever she even FOUND Christine's locker—
"Chloe?" Brooke asked.
"Hm?" Chloe snapped out of her daze and stared at Brooke. "Oh, yeah, summer was... great..." that was only partly true. It had been BEYOND great with Christine, and became a void of almost nothing without her.
As Brooke started talking about her summer, Chloe noticed two girls walk passed her. They we're holding hands, giggling and talking to each other. She recognized the taller figure instantly. Ugh, MADELINE. But then she looked down at the smaller girl and her eyes widened.
Christine...
Wearing Madeline's jacket...
Holding Madeline's hand...
Standing on her tiptoes to try and kiss Madeline on the cheek as they passed down the hall, in which Madeline bent down to kiss Christine's cheek instead.
Soon they were out of sight.
Chloe felt her face turn red. Since when would Christine start hanging out with Madeline? And why was she so mad about it? The sounds around her became muffled as she started breathing heavily. She didn't understand why she was getting so angry over seeing Christine and Madeline acting like that together. "Shit..." she mumbled to herself, feeling tears prick at her eyes. She gripped onto her backpack strap tightly.
"... anyways, we should probably be going to the cafeteria now, huh?" Brooke asked and looked back over at Chloe. "Chlo...? You okay...?"
"I have to go...."
"But—"
"I HAVE TO GO!" Chloe snapped at Brooke before walking away, looking down at the ground as she desperately tried to find some way to fix this. She ran into the girls' bathroom quickly and locked herself in a stall. She took off her backpack and let it fall to the floor, leaned her back against one of the stall walls, and tried her hardest not to cry.
It didn't work. She realized no one else was in the bathroom and started to let out broken sobs, wiping the tears off of her face...
Christine probably no longer wanted anything to do with her...
Not that she felt like she deserved forgiveness...
She felt so alone now...
After all of that, I became... bitter. I became the "Queen Bee" of high school. Brooke is my 'best friends I guess, but I'm always so mean to her... I feel bad about it, she doesn't deserve it... and I still see Christine around the halls, looking so happy with Madeline. And I want to say I'm happy for her, but I still feel so... angry seeing her with Madeline.
I guess... I may not like girls... but I did like Christine...
