3 - The girl in the forest

Nature began to show signs of early spring. The mountains looked beautiful, with the snow melting and the first signs of colour beginning to peak out.
Light pinks and greens, pale yellows and blues, began to blossom. Tentatively the first signs of colour and growth had began once again, this time though, it was as if mother nature had hinted at the first buddings of love for two people.

The ice in the lakes had melted and Jimin had went out to explore. Maybe he'd catch a fish or two. The entire atmosphere was so beautiful, the air crisp and cool. The smell of earth and trees enveloping him in a bubble of happiness.

He just had to simply get away, he couldn't stand the torture of having to explain what a mate is to the rest of his clueless members about what the differences are and so on and so forth.

That was a job for the Alpha alone (heh-heehehe) there were some things just the Alpha could do. And this was one of it. He didn't mean bad, just the idea of talking and thinking about it made his chest tighten and a funny feeling he associated with nervousness began to unfold inside.

His lungs seized up and his throat closed. If he was human he'd brush it off as being sick, but he was a shifter wolf and they only died one of three ways:

1. their mate had passed,

2. they were physically wounded and

3. they are separated from their mate and their link was destroyed in that process.

He shivered just thinking of it or maybe it was the weather?
He wore a thin shirt for the sake of it, another advantage of being a werewolf. The high body temperatures. They lived better in colder climates naturally. Imagine them in deserts..... no, that would perhaps be a fourth way to kill them, heat overload.

The truth is this prophecy shook him to the core. More than it did for Hoesoek. Jimin displayed a calm disposition, not commenting much on it. In truth though, he felt as if a clock started counting down. To what? he didn't know.

Sleep evaded him last night, he kept tossing around. Eventually he just lay on his back bare chested, because it was still hot for him despite the season.

It would have been a beautiful time for him to sit with his thoughts and have a one on one. The night creatures sang in beautiful harmony. He could have used that as a time to recharge and sort his thoughts out. Focusing on the night sounds, with the glittery sky and tall mountains as a beautiful backdrop.

He'd usually just sit at his window enjoying being at peace for a few hours, that he simply could not have during the day. There was something magical about the night hours. It felt like it kept secrets and lent an ear to hear any trouble that sat on anyone's chest.

Well it would have been nice although, last night the beautiful melody nature sang was interrupted by Jungkook's incessant snoring which spoilt it, like a terrible opera singer trying to keep tune with an orchestra of nature.
Jimin sighed. He could do nothing about it, Jungkook had an uncanny knack to see right through people.
Had Jimin went to the room next to his and tried to stop his snoring; either by throwing a pillow at him or shaking him by the shoulders Jungkook would know something troubled him.

He'd been able to cover it up at the meeting room last night, but only because Jungkook was too busy sulking and had preceded to become shell-shocked by the news, thereafter.

At the rate he sawed logs, as if competing with a beaver, it didn't seem like he was the least bit worried about this news. He probably assumed the Alpha would be first up. Poor chump. "Mates didn't find each other in any specific order", funny enough Jungkook could find his first from all of them.

"Did Kookie remember that?"

Didn't seem like it seeing as how his opera solo persisted. At some point in the night Jimin had resigned and tried to ignore it by blocking it out. Instead he focused on the pitch and tone, "a bit like braying..." he thought to himself, "no, no it sounds more like a chainsaw, slicing through a huge tree that fell; not that we used those machines", at this point he realised that was slowly losing his mind and decided to preserve whatever little sanity he had left, and woke up.

At around four in the morning he pulled on a loose shirt and his shoes and walked out of the house (no, he had pants on already).
Bringing his thoughts to his present surroundings again he revelled in the peace and tranquility outdoors.

"How refreshing" he said out loud as he stretched his hands out wide, curling and flexing them inward to stretch his back better. His eyes glowed a pale light green. It was the early parts of morning now and the birds sang their greetings to a new day. He shut his eyes tight and lifted his head upwards to the sky. Just then he sensed someone, it felt foreign, he'd never smelt this scent before. Could it be Hoesoek, perhaps his worry had and stress had affected his scent, - No this was flowery, fresh, it was wonderful, why he'd bottle it up and make it perfume.

He sniffed the air his eyes open now, he turned in a circle and that's when he saw her.
She was a tiny little thing compared to him. She stood behind a large tree, head tilted curiously. She had long hair that stopped just before her ankles. It was a beautiful chestnut colour.
Both of them just stared at each other their eyes held each other's gaze.

Jimins heart began to beat fast and rapid, like a horse galloping at full speed with urgency, almost as if to reach her heart.

She looked like a deer caught by surprise. Too stunned to move. His eyes now changed colour again to match her blue ones only his iris's had a golden band around it. She noticed this, gasped and then turned and made a run for it.
And just like that she disappeared. Jimin shot after her, he knew this place too well. He had to catch her, he felt annoyed that she'd left him. How could she.

He jumped over a large log and jumped over a boulder and landed in front of her, stopping her in her tracks, before she fell into that ditch that led to an icy cold lake. Saving her was important but that's not why he did it.

He looked at her, his gaze full of heat and emotion, he growled low and felt his eyes glow and change, her eyes widened and she made to take a step back when he caught her arm and held her close.
He sniffed her and rolled his eyes in pleasure.

He wasn't like this at all normally, he behaved like a feral beast now. An ache and nagging began to throb all-over him. He opened his mouth and low deep howl came out. It didn't alert anyone of any danger or message. This howl happened involuntarily and had notified anyone hearing it, that he had found his mate.

He looked intently in her eyes. Words wouldn't come to him, yet his eyes spoke a thousand words and promises. And it seemed she understood. Her face changed, her eyes mirrored the emotions in his. Something was welling up in her. She swallowed and made to speak. When she opened her mouth, all she said was one word: "mate".

Dawns POV:

I recently moved to the capital of Concordia, after completing my education at finishing school. My father, Lord Duncan Lancaster, was summoned by King Jin of Concordia. We moved here a couple of days ago. I fell in love with the breathtaking view of mountains and nature hugging the kingdom at large.

Since my arrival I've been herded to many debutante balls, teas and luncheons. I couldn't bare it. Just when I think I had met someone worthy of being friends with, a prospective suitor comes out and I realise its all a sham. It's all for power and money. No one would be overly interested in me, I'm seen as quite a dull person.

I do make conversation and am quite sociable. I'm just not coquettish enough to attract the best of them. Or so I have heard. I believe in a proper relationship for life. Not some passing fad and alliance just for the sake of it.

I quickly became sick of this lifestyle. King Jin was a great monarch. But the greed and personal tastes of people cannot be controlled by him. It's just human behavior. I, however do not want to be there when they realise that what they chase now is of zero value in future. And I definitely will not be one of the preys that shall fall victim to this fleeting passion developed in the impoverished and underdeveloped minds of men.

Bluntly said, sex and carnal pleasure is not it all. It pales in comparison to the behaviors required in a marriage when things become stiff and difficult.

Then they divorce and begin the vicious cycle again. That's not life. That's not what a partner or spouse should be. It's sickening to watch and more so when you have to attend a welcome party to someone's third wife from God knows where.

When I noticed a lovely mountain and spotted the entrance to it, I decided to trek up myself. I found a long wooden stick and used it to maintain balance when parts of the mountain got rocky. I'd had dressed lightly. A simple dress of cream and beige and a brown tunic laced over. I had on leather boots I used for horse riding and that was about it.

The view was magnificent up here. In four hours I made it to the top. I had left at night. It was around five in the morning, judging by the light in and sky. I almost fell into a large ditch which led to a lake that had not completely melted in some parts.

As I walked I neared a clearing to what from far looked like a cabin. Someone lived here.

It was then I noticed him. Handsome and muscular, broad shoulders, his hair long and beautiful, thick muscular thighs that screamed power. Goodness, was I drooling? He was alone but spoke to himself, thinking out loud.

He sat in deep thought, gazing at the mountains. I wish I could ease his troubles. I wish I could talk to him. Somehow I got the feeling he was different from all the men I had met. Something inside me pulled with a great force. As if I had become spellbound I walked one step at a time until I was at the perimeter of his land. I felt a link connected to him, almost as if an invisible thread had been tied to us both and we finally traced back to each other.

I smiled, so happy to find him. Why was I happy? Why did I have such thoughts? He'd be deterred and put off if he heard my thoughts. Here was innocently sitting by himself and I am intruding on his life, inviting myself to scenarios of us sharing a life together

"He probably has a lovely wife", although that thought makes me ache inside. Not like jealously but more like a my life is being sapped out making me weak.

My poetic monologue had come to a curt end when he moved. I stepped back, my heart beating like a wild rabbits. He sniffed the air and that's when it hit me.
I've been warned that King Jin had shared his lands equally with other creatures like shifter Wolves and Fealie.

And I, had just found myself on the turf of a wolf!?!....

His eyes met mine changing from a pale colour I couldn't decipher from where I was standing, either a yellow or green, to a brighter more distinct blue. Similar to mine.

He looked even more handsome now facing me. I must run I thought, after what felt like centuries of locking his gaze. He made to move closer and that's when I made a run for it. I turned and scurried away. God where did I leave my stick? On second thought if I went tumbling down I'd reach the end faster. How stupid of me to forget this, and here I was falling in love with this place and seeking someone to ask if I could join them and live here. I'd work here and stay in happy solitude.

Well I hope he didn't get too offended by my intrusion, I won't stay to find ou-. Woah! here he was in front of me. I stood there panting, goodness he was fast. Quite the stamina he has. "Wonder what else he'd use that stamina for...."

He didn't look angry at all. He stared at me in wonder, his eyes spoke a thousand words. It was so refreshing. Here we are a wordless understanding that meant so much more than those soul sapping chats with so called suitors.

His handsomeness only became more pronounced, my knees weakened and my knees buckled making me stumble backwards a little, but the handsome man caught me. No, the handsome shifter caught me.

Now he's holding me, God have mercy. He pulled me closer and sniffed me.

"Lord I'll die happy now", I thought. His eyes rolled in pleasure, his jaw flexed as if holding something back. When he looked at me again his eyes were a deep shade of red. They looked like he had two beautifully shaped garnets for irises.

I made to open mouth and apologize but a different word came out, "Mate?"

Currently:

Jimin looked at her in partial shock.

"I - I - I am sorry, I just came to clear my head and I didn't mean to snoop and look at your strong muscles - oh! Oh no, no no, that's not what I meant. I saw the path and found the stick and I came up here and I thought it was so beautiful up here and then I saw you. I realised you aren't human and I thought it wise to run away and leave you alone. I - I am new here, and I didn't mean to intrude. Sorry", she blabbered out.
Jimin raised one eyebrow in question. Biting a smile back.

Here's some imagery on Dawns appearance minus the basket 😂

He looked at her with astonishment and humor.

"She's perfect", he thought.
Clearing his throat, ("lord he sounds good doing that!"), he said with a smile in his voice "figures", genuinely giving her a warm smile.

"Come", he said and she shivered. Looking at him hungrily ("about to").

He chuckled, eyes sparkling. She looked at him and licked her lips, Jimin groaned, "ughh, don't- don't do that", he said taking her hand and leading her out of the woody parts of the mountain and back to a safer part of land.
He sat them down on a fallen log and turned her to face him.

"Okay, breathe for me sweetheart", he said as he took her hands in his and rubbed his thumbs over her knuckles

.
"Oh my God, I can't do that around you", she whined to herself.
"Where are you from exactly sweetheart?" He asked politely, so as to not scare her.

She stared at him doe-eyed, "I studied and lived in Solaris up until now, then my father was summoned by King Jin and we recently relocated here".

"Hmmmmm", he said out loud, and she squirmed a little, shifting and clenching her legs tighter. That didn't miss his eye, he watched her from his blind spot. After some time of sitting in silence, she said "I have actually learnt about all the supernatural beings at school. I took a great interest in it", he looked at her surprised and relieved.

"So ......you know whats happening here, with us?"

"Yes, it's just very hard to process and accept. Up until ten minutes ago I had no idea this would happen. My dad was forcing me to meet other nobles for alliances -", she was cut off, Jimin growled gruff and deep. His eyes showed a wild possession and he pinned her gaze.
"No one so much as even gets near whats mine, YOU are now mine. Never again are you meeting another human male" he growled and leaned in, the heat she felt denied the fact that it was early spring. He leant in close to her taking in her scent.

Jimin took in her innocent features, her eyes like the clear sky in summer, her rosy pink parted lips. Her heart shaped face. The chestnut hair that framed her face. She inhaled and waited with bated breath. He pressed his nose to the side of her neck, where her shoulder met her neck and inhaled deeply, he "mate", he growled out, his voice gravelly and deep.

She involuntarily closed her eyes in pleasure. He licked a path up to her jaw, enjoying the sound of her choppy breaths. He peppered kisses on her jawline.

It came on instinct, like the Fealie King said. He had an unstoppable urge to show his affection to her. He could not hold her close enough, he could not convey his feelings well enough with words. He felt like he'd die without her, and at that point realization dawned on him. "Sweetheart before I kiss you, tell me your name", "Dawn..." she said in a low husky voice. Jimin's eyes drooped and he looked her with hooded eyes full of need and love, an old love that had resurfaced and found its twin-half.

"Its perfect, same as the time we met" he laughed to himself. He held her face in his hand, his fingers curled around her chin gripping her jaw, "Dawn, you are so perfect", his said, voice low and uneven.
Jimin leaned in and kissed her mouth slowly and softly. She tentatively responded, sliding her lips against his firmer ones.

They were so juicy and plump she had an urge to bite one, she gently nipped his plump bottom lip, which set his insides ablaze. Jimin groaned and pulled back a little to stare into her eyes, before diving back and pressing his lips firmer into a more urgent kiss. He sucked her bottom lip in and gently let go with a bite. After a couple of minutes that felt like hours to them, they pulled apart.

Their breaths heavy. His strong muscular chest heaved up and down, Dawns eyes, were captivated by the sight and her eyes stuck rooted to the spot. After some time she realised he was looking and apologized.

"No need to ever apologize, I like you looking at me. I am yours and so you can look at me all you wish, all day long. My mate must have eyes only for me", her breath caught and she licked her lips leaning in closer unknowingly.

"By the way.... I am Jimin, beta of the Earth tribe." His smiled at the irony of the situation. Introductions were normally to get to know another person, but he felt as if he knew her well already. Swapping names now, seemed hilariously out of place.

"Jimin" she whispered softly, which made his eyes turn a shade of lilac, "I like hearing you say my name" he said softly crooning into her ear.
He placed his forehead against hers and they stayed like that for several moments. Just this simple contact had calmed her and made her feel reassured. She never wanted to leave this magical place, she only wanted to be here in his embrace.

Twenty minutes later

"There are four wolf tribes, yes?" she asked as they walked back to the cabin.

"Yes, one for each element: Fire, Air, Water and Earth, which is us", he said sweetly gesturing to the both of them. "Oh", she thought, a faint blush touching her cheeks. She'd only just realised that she was one of them or would be soon enough.

Once he mated her and she had his pups. She shivered, a thrill racing up her spine and hitting her inner core.

He smiled so bright and brilliant that his eyes had become slits. It was so cute and adorable, a stark contrast to his other side she'd experienced thus far. Their hands were intwined and they walked back to the cabin of earth wolves.

Jimin expected many things, from his fellow pack members, like Jungkook teasing him and Hoesoek welcoming the first female to join the pack. But what lay in front of their eyes was something he just wasn't ready for.

Dawn and Jimin, had stood facing the entire race of werewolves standing outside the earth cabin. Namjoon stood giving a warm and welcoming smile, Duri whistled and clapped, Hwan cheered and jumped a little fists flailing in the air, narrowly missing Alfred who stood far enough to see them but near enough that he was not excluded.

Hoesoek and Jungkook stood standing side by side in the front of all the commotion. Hoesoek gave a genuine smile, looking at Jimin with pride and admiration in his eyes. He nodded in greeting to Jimin, emotion too much for him to speak. Jungkook and the rest of the members clapped and cheered, a broad grin spread across his face. A child like excitement clear.

Not yet mated to Dawn he could not say for certain what she thought and felt, but he didn't feel any apprehension or fear. That made him proud and his handsome face broke out into a huge smile. He leaned down and whispered, "Looks like they heard my howl", he grinned and winked at her mischievously.

He'd learnt about the ceremonial welcome when he was a pup and a thrill ran in his veins, as he realised he got to do it now. Holding her hand high up above them, Jimin, leaned back and howled in front of all the tribe members. That was an official warning that said they are to respect him and his mate and that she was now his and his alone.

The entire wolf clan broke out into a loud cheer, the ruckus to huge he'd bet the Kings would hear it from their palaces.

"Congratulations to our beta and a very big, warm welcome to our newest memeber of the Earth tribe!" Announced their Alpha, Hoesoek, his eyes reflected warmth and joy, a paternal side of the Alpha shone through.

"To Jimin and his mate!" Shouted Namjoon, his sweet angelic face split into a dimpled grin not many saw. The two had stepped forward to greet all the alphas and then introduce his mate to all the werewolves, seeing as how they all were present. They maintained a type of decorum and respect that had not been seen but was ever present in them.

They bowed to Dawn and the Alphas shook her hand, understanding that, that is what she'd be used to, coming from a human background. When time came for Alfred to greet her, he found himself dumbfounded, much like the other day, all he could do was grin and clap and then he awkwardly exclaimed "She's not scary at all!!" And then excused himself a moment later.

Dawn took no offense and found them all endearing. After half an hour of meeting all the members of the wolf clan, Jimin looked at Dawn with some concern and said, "You'll have to alert your family soon."

"There would be no need for that Jimin, beta of the Earth tribe", that nonchalant, regal drawl. He knew it well. It was the voice of Fealie Tae. He turned in tune with Dawn to see Fealie Tae standing there, a subtle smile on his face.

"I have come to congratulate the first wolf to be mated in this generational pack."

Fealie Tae ♥

A late addition to the depict the elements, my apologies.

Beautiful art, done by Aleksundoor. I feel like this matches the type of place they live on mountain well.

A/n: Hello to all reading 👋
Thank you for reading this chapter and my story thus far. I appreciate the time put into reading my ideas and work. I sincerely hope that you enjoy or at the very least like this story thus far.
Please note, that I mentioned this story has steamy romance but I chose to phase it in slowly, to depict the feelings and romance that transpire in reality between two people.

See you in chapter 4 ♥
P.s : Concordia is a Latin word for unity
