Sick

Trigger warning: a lot of sad stuff and shit happens

"Jimin, I promise I'll do everything in my power to keep you alive, for as long as possible."

Yoongi closed the book he was reading and reflected on his promise to Jimin. No one knew what Jimin was going through, not even Yoongi fully knew. But Jimin had been scared, so Yoongi had promised. But what if Jimin wasn't going to get better? What if Yoongi had lied?

Jimin was sleeping in his hospital bed, and Yoongi saw that it didn't look like a restful sleep. He kept fidgeting and whimpering so much that Yoongi wanted to shake Jimin awake, but he didn't. He knew that this would be Jimin's only chance at rest in a long time. All these tests and everything, all because no one knew what disease Jimin even had.

He had an immune disorder, the doctor said. Jimin had been on everything, within the past few years. A ventilator, an IV drip, even his deathbed once (Yoongi was glad he hadn't made a scene, as apperantly that didn't happen).

Yoongi could've sworn that the medicine had been working just a month ago, but now nothing was helping. Jimin was dying and there was nothing anybody could really do anymore.

Jihyun seemed to be the only other person who cared. Obviously, as Jimin's brother, he would care, but you'd think his parents would try. They didn't. Jimin's own parents didn't give a damn whether he died or not.

Yoongi felt terrible. He was going off of no sleep, no food, just coffee. He could eat, but it felt like a waste because all he did afterward was throw it up.

No one else knew. None of Yoongi's friends, or Jimin's friends. Well except for Seokjin, but he was the doctor.

Life was shit. Life was shit 2 years ago before Yoongi dated Jimin, and life was still shit now.

"FUCKING HELL LET ME DO SOMETHING! ANYTHING!" Yoongi yelled, back in his apartment.

"I wish..." Jihyun said, getting up off the couch, his bedhead adorable. Jihyun was staying at Yoongi and Jimin's house because... Family problems.

"I wish I could do everything to make my brother better. Anything and everything. But Yoongi, yelling won't help. Here, help me research this," Jihyun handed Yoongi a paper with messy writing all over it.

"What's this?" Yoongi said, taking a deep breath and calming down.

"My research paper for school, in creative writing class."

"Shouldn't you be doing this yourself? You're in university."

"Yoongi, c'mon. This'll take your mind off Jimin for a while."

"You look too much like him for me to forget about Jiminie."

"I'll get plastic surgery and come back to you in a few months, you won't recognize me at all!" Jihyun burst into giggles, squeaking just like his brother.

Yoongi couldn't help but laugh. It's a relief, being able to laugh in times of pain (I've realized that personally).

Jihyun had a certain twinkle in his eye that reminded Yoongi of Jimin. Young and full of life, with the same eye smile.

But Jimin didn't have that twinkle anymore. It was long gone, and who knew if it'd come back.

"Yoongi?" Jihyun asked, finally taking in the state of the older.

"Yeah?" Yoongi replied.

"Get some rest, okay? I'll go with Jimin, I promise I'll text you if he wakes up while I'm there, okay?"

"No, I don't need sleep..." But just then a wave of sleepiness washed over Yoongi. Jihyun noticed and guided the slightly taller to his bed.

"Sleep, okay? Don't pretend to sleep but actually be working on something." Jihyun knew Yoongi pretty well, they'd been living together after Jimin got sick. Practically a year and a half now.

Yoongi laid in bed for a while, just thinking. Jimin had had so many diagnoses that they'd all run together. Cancer, heart problems, anemia, all that. The only diagnosis they'd proven was his anemia, which didn't even have a probable cause.

After anemia, he got pneumonia, and with his weakened immune system it almost killed him. He was sick for months. When he finally got out of the hospital, he often had trouble breathing, and the fact that they lived in a high air pollution area didn't help.

Now, no one knew what Jimin had picked up that caused him this terrible of a flare up. A suggestion, and the one Yoongi agreed with, was the flu. Even a tiny thing such as the flu could be life threatening to Jimin, with his bad immune system.

Now, Yoongi didn't know what to believe. The only thing he knew was that he was tired. He fell asleep.

*Around an hour later*

Jihyun: Yoongi?

Y: yeah?

J: Jimin woke up and he's asking for you

Y: I'll be there soon

Yoongi put on his leather jacket, fixed his hair in the mirror, and got into his car. The drive to the hospital was only a short way away, so he got there quickly.

Room 314 (π)

Yoongi heard laughter coming from the room. The two laughed almost identically, Jimin's a little higher in pitch and slightly more hoarse after all his lungs had gone through just within the past month.

He stepped in.

"Yoongi!" Jimin said, throwing his arms wide. He looked cheerful enough, but upon further inspection you could see how gaunt he had become, and how his eyes no longer smiled with the rest of him.

"Jimin!" Yoongi answered, hugging him. He smiled his trademark gummy smile.

"Wow you've really gotten skinny," Yoongi said, pulling away from the hug.

"Yeah, that's what Jihyun said. How long have I been sleeping?"

"2 days straight," Jihyun supplied, as Yoongi sat down in the uncomfortable chair, as Jihyun had snagged the good one.

"Oh shit. That's a lot," Jimin hung his head.

"Not that long, I once slept longer!"

"Yoongi, you're an insomniac by profession. Now can someone help me sit up?"

Yoongi, still chuckling, helped Jimin to sit up, as the other was too weak to do it on his own.

"There was a time where I could dance for hours on end..." Jimin trailed off sadly.

"And hopefully you'll be able to do it again. Seokjin is doing everything he can to make sure you're healthy again. You'll get better, I know it," Yoongi said, quite opposite of his character.

"Wish I could be that optimistic. Anyway, you know what to do when I die."

"If, Park Jimin. If."

"Fine Jihyun, if I die."

"Better," Jihyun said, satisfied.

"Hey I ran into Taehyung at work yesterday, he asked where you'd been," Yoongi said.

"Tell him. I'm tired of this, he'll need to know eventually," Jimin said, tiredly.

"Okay, I'll text him when we get home," Yoongi sighed.

"Hey you know what'd be great? If we got BTS back together!"

"Jimin, we can't have that many people visiting you at once, one might be sick," Yoongi said.

"Oh stop being such a killjoy! It'd be fun! Seokjin is already here, and we have me, you, Tae sometimes, Tae knows Kook, Hobi teaches dance at the school we went to, Namjoon is dating Seokjin,  we can have the whole dance group back together!"

"We wouldn't be able to do anything, though," Yoongi said.

"Shh. It's good to catch up with old friends once in a while."

"All my old friends are dead," Yoongi replied.

"That's because you were friends with a bunch of alcoholics and druggies," Jimin retorted. "There's this thing called 'choose who you make friends with, you never know who will try to rape you'."

"I don't think that's how the saying goes... And they weren't all druggies or alcoholics, either!"

"Oh yeah, one..."

"Bled to death. Yeah."

Jihyun was silent throughout the entire exchange, but he stepped in right then.

"Yoongi, please..."

"No. I needed to say that."

Just then Seokjin walked into the room.

"Um guys? You might want to hear this. Jimin, we did the blood test, and we found what immune disease you have-"

"Could you not have done this years ago?" Yoongi asked sarcastically.

"The results 2 years ago came back negative. Yoongi, doctors make mistakes too."

"Sorry hyung," Yoongi said meekly.

"So, we can treat it. The only problem... It's high risk. We can't guarantee you'll get better, and we can't guarantee you won't get worse."

"What's my other option?"

"3 weeks left, I'd say."

"Of..."

"Life. Sorry Jimin."

"I... I'll do it. If it'll get me my life back, I'll do it."

"It also isn't covered by the government, so..."

"I have money," Yoongi said.

It was true, Yoongi did have money, and plenty at that.

"Thank you," Jimin said softly to Seokjin.

*A month later*

Jimin's treatment had begun. It was hard at first, and made him really weak. At one point, Yoongi caught Jimin crying, saying stuff like "I don't want it to go on... Make it stop! Make the pain go away," and that scared Yoongi and Jihyun. But Jimin was getting better.

"I texted Taehyung and he said he'd come by soon," Yoongi said, sitting beside Jimin on his hospital bed.

"Good. Hey what's his hair colour now?"

"Firetruck red," Yoongi said.

"I suppose as an idol, he has to," Jimin replied.

"Hey don't act like you didn't have that same colour!"

"I never acted like I didn't! But hey you looked like Draco Malfoy around that same time, with that blond hair."

They both laughed, something that was happening more and more with each passing day.

The door opened.

"Surprise!" Taehyung said, coming into the room with Jungkook, Hoseok, Namjoon, and Seokjin (not in his scrubs). Taehyung was holding a cake.

"What? What is this?" Jimin said, surprised.

"Hey you said you wanted a get together, the gang's all here!"

*The height of the hospital party*

"So how's idol life?" Jimin asked Jungkook and Taehyung.

"Pretty good," Taehyung said, speaking for the both of them, as Jungkook was shoveling cake in his mouth. "Tiring, though. We have a new album coming out soon, it's a lot of work!"

"Nice! I'll make sure to listen," said Jimin, but you could tell he was a bit sad he couldn't have that life.

Yoongi and Namjoon were talking about rap, Namjoon's mixtapes, Yoongi's mixtapes.

Hoseok and Jihyun were talking about dance, as that's the profession Jihyun would like to go into as well. Jimin was kinda lonely, until he realized that Seokjin was actually working.

Jimin got up, still a little weaker than normal, but he could walk.

He went over to Seokjin and took the iPad out of his hands.

"Hey! I was using that!"

"Sorry hyung," Jimin said mischievously, "but you can't work at a party! Parties are supposed to be fun!"

"Just don't overexert yourself, okay?"

"You sound soooo much like a doctor."

"That's what I am, though!" Seokjin winked.

They soon got into a conversation about school days, and then Taehyung and Jungkook had to go back to work.

Hoseok left shortly after, saying he had some lessons to prepare.

Then finally, Namjin went home to their shared house, and it was only Jihyun and Yoongi left with Jimin.

"Well I kinda have to say here, you two go home, I'll be fine!"

"Okay," Yoongi said, pulling on his jacket (yep, leather).

"Remember to get some sleep and eat well, Jimin!" Jihyun said, and smiled.

Jimin waved them goodbye, and then settled into his bed.

Tomorrow will be just as good as today.

And Jimin fell asleep.

A/N good? Bad? Votes will be greatly appreciated!

Have a good day 💜
