If there was one person she hated most, it was Min Yoongi.
He was the shyest yet most adored boy all around. In her hometown, it felt as though everyone was talking about him. He was an upcoming producer, apparently. She shouldn't be angry over that, and she wasn't. What she was angry over was the way he was cocky about it. The worst part was he wasn't a cocky person. She knew because she saw his interactions with others a lot (she was his neighbor), and he had a shy, kind of not-caring attitude toward other people. But with her? He decided to bring out the beast.
The reason she was bringing this up was because she was at her favorite local restaurant, munching on her noodles. But no. She couldn't eat in peace and quiet, Min Yoongi just had to show up and ruin it all. Right when the door opened, she felt a blast of air rush to her back. And in walked the man she had grown so accustomed to hating. He saw her within a flash, and he chose to steal the empty seat across from her.
"Destiny," he said, and she placed her chopsticks down, dabbing the corners of her lips with a napkin. She resisted the urge to flip him off, instead smiling through it all. "You didn't answer my text."
"My phone died." Her phone vibrated in her pocket right after that, but she didn't care, she only kept her smile and took a sip from her water. "Care to explain why you took my friend's seat? She'll be here any moment." Yet another lie. More to add to the list she used whenever Yoongi was around.
"Your only friend is that flower I saw you picking the other day."
"And you're much better? Your only friends are those songs you make up in your head all day. I'm surprised you even know what a flower is."
"You're hilarious." His eyes rolled, and hers did the same. To be frank, Destiny never hated him. She was open to the idea of having a friend as her neighbor. But everything changed when he showed his true colors while she was attempting to get to know him. He was cocky, arrogant, and rude. Destiny thought it might had been to impress her, but based on the way he spoke to other women, she knew that wasn't so. What was it that caused him to despise her? What was it that had them as enemies rather than the best of friends?
And what better way to get the answer than to ask.
"Why do you hate me?" she asked, keeping as much hostility out of her tone as possible. He only scoffed. As if Destiny should've known. She let out a breath. "Seriously Yoongi. Why do you hate me?" She was doing her best to keep her anger from rising, but Yoongi was making that near impossible to do.
"I only hate you because you hate me."
"Bullshit. I didn't hate you until I found out how rude you were. Always being so arrogant with your music, being cocky about your abilities. It felt like you always acted differently around me than with other people. I'm tired of it. Can't I at least get an explanation as to why?"
For the first time since she had met Yoongi, he appeared genuinely confused. "What are you talking about? I never treated you any differently. We were younger and dumber. Do you seriously hate me because of how I acted when I was young?"
"You were far from 'young'. You were old enough not to treat me like I was an alien."
"Was I wrong?"
She refrained from leaning across the table and slapping him for that comment. "Please just leave me alone. I don't want to do this today."
"I don't want to do this ever, but it seems as though you'll never leave me alone. Look, I'm sorry for treating you poorly when I was younger, but if you want to try being kind, I'd be willing to. I never hated you, I just thought you hated me, so I reacted that way. And that was poor judgement. I should've taken the higher road, or at least gotten to the bottom of why you were so cold. I'm sorry for that too."
His words sent Destiny through a spiral of emotions she didn't want. She never knew Yoongi had the capability to say those kinds of things, as he was always rude to her. She had a small sense of remorse for him, but that was so little when compared to the pile of guilt laying over top of it. "I'm sorry too."
They both let out a sigh. They felt the tension eased, but now it was awkward. They were fumbling over each other's sentences. "You know, I never meant for it to get this bad. I thought you hated me. That's why I did the things I did."
"I thought you hated me, that's why I did what I did."
Yoongi chuckled and sat back, his lips turning up into one of his iconic gummy smiles. She mentally cursed at herself when she found herself liking the look. Liking the way he grinned. The way his eyes lit up. "Well, that makes this a bit awkward, don't you think?" he asked.
"Just a little," she replied, holding her hands up to demonstrate.
The man cleared his throat, reaching his hand across the table. She stalled for a moment, wondering if this was a good idea. She came to the conclusion that it wasn't, but the devil on her shoulder silenced the angel, and she took his hand. "Is it okay if we start over?"
Terrible idea. They had been at odds for as long as she could remember. There was no solid proof this would work out, or that they could become acquaintances let alone friends. However, her hand was already in his. His skin rubbing on hers made her heartbeat swell, her skin glistening with moisture. She found herself nodding before she could think about it. "Yeah, yeah that's okay with me."
And then, he shook her hand.

ONE MONTH LATER
Destiny kept her arms glued on the railing of the balcony. She was over Yoongi's house for the fourth time that week, her head resting on her arm as she gazed up at the stars. There were no constellations she knew, so she made her own only to forget them right after she patented them.
A t-shirt draped over her body, her figure donning dark leggings to match the bright color she was wearing on top. Life had changed since her and Yoongi decided to start over. Destiny pondered if she made the right decision. When Yoongi came out on the balcony and handed her a water, she came to the conclusion that she did.
"Someone's acting nicer than usual. What happened, did your pencil break? Am I your only form of entertainment now?"
"I have a pen, first of all," Yoongi said, Destiny chuckling and sipping from the water. "Second of all, it would be rude to write lyrics while I have a guest over."
"Bullshit. You ignored me yesterday and wrote three whole songs. I had to pretend to have a heart attack to get your attention."
"Listen, I have my priorities. Sometimes finishing a song comes first. You just happened to have to suffer the consequences."
She snickered without meaning to, sipping from the water again. "Consequences. The consequences, huh?" He tilted his head, and she gave him a playful expression. "I consider hanging out with you a gift, even if your head is buried in work all day." Funny how the night changed, huh?
"Okay, who are you and what have you done with Destiny?"
"Last I checked, I'm still Destiny." She glanced over herself, shrugging afterwards. "I still have the same body. Same mind as far as I'm aware. Do you want a brain scan or something?"
He blinked. "You're weird."
"Yet you always invite me over."
"It's called being kind. We agreed to start over, so I decided to take the initiative and invite you over often. I consider myself a gentleman, excuse you."
"Right," she said, slurring her tongue over the word. "The problem with that is we agreed to start over like a month ago now. So the million dollar question is this, Mr. Min: why are you still inviting me over all the time, hm? Are you actually fond of me?"
"Are you teasing me?"
"If I said I was, would you be disappointed?" she asked, coming a bit closer. She set the water down on the pavement beneath her feet, not caring if it spilled. "Something tells me you'd be fine with it."
He didn't agree nor disagree, instead deciding to keep his body still. Destiny took it as an invitation to come even closer, and their bodies were almost pressed against one another's. "What are you doing?" he asked, his voice so low she had to strain to hear it.
"What do you think I'm doing?"
"I'm not used to you being this confident."
"You barely know me, Mr. Min. You think you do, but you don't. Living next to me for a while doesn't mean you know my whole personality, y'know."
"Bummer," he said, his gummy smile coming out. "I was kind of hoping it would."
"With enough time and patience, something I don't know if you have, you can find out anything you'd like about me," she replied, and his brows knit together. "What? What is it? Did I say something wrong?"
"No just... There's one thing I want to know. Am I close enough to you to find out?"
For a fraction of a second, she considered her options. On one hand, she could tease him more and say no. On the other, she could give in and hear what questions he had about her. In a way, it made her tremble from excitement. Min Yoongi had questions about her. It seemed simple, but a man showing interest was amazing, to be honest. Not because she wanted a man's attention necessarily. No, it wasn't that. It was because the man she thought she hated was the one close to her now. He was the one in her personal space. He was the one who was gazing at her on his balcony, the lighting highlighting the softest shades of his pale skin.
"Depends on what the question is," was the answer she settled with. And it worked rather well.
"Are you flirting with me?" His voice wasn't accusatory. It was the same light sound that made Destiny's ears pop with delight. Only she wasn't sure how to answer now. But she didn't want it to be awkward, so she fired out an answer without her brain's approval.
"What if I said yes?"
Yoongi's eyes widened by a centimeter, the darkness of his irises speckled in beads of brightness Destiny didn't expect. She realized she could only study his eyes because he was so close to her. And he was only coming closer. His footstep made a sharp noise on the balcony, and his hand was suddenly on her waist. His other went to her shoulder and held her in place. She didn't protest either of the movements. This time, she knew why she didn't stop him. Prior to this past month, she would have screamed at him and maybe even hit him for daring lay his hands on her. Yet another example of how fast time flew.
"What if I said I liked it?" he asked, and her whole heart halted at his words. Her frozen state made him laugh, his hands moving up to brush her hands out of her face. "Sorry, was that too much?"
"We hated each other a month ago," she mumbled instead of answering him. "And now we're flirting and in each other's personal space."
"Yeah," he said with a sigh, running a hand through his locks. "Yeah, I guess that's true."
"I never said I didn't like it." His figure went stiff, and she took it as an opportunity to scoot a bit closer. This time, she took the lead. She took his hands and held them, the man's eyes remaining on her. "Is this something you want to try?"
"Us?" he asked, but it was more of a statement. She nodded in response. "I wouldn't be opposed to it. Just don't go back to hating me all of a sudden, yeah?"
She laughed like he did mere moments ago, and she let him remove his hands from hers to wrap his arms around her waist. Yoongi pulled her up against his chest, and he leaned his head a bit closer. "You don't have to be scared," she said, her eyes falling on his lips. "I won't stop you now." And he listened.
Yoongi pressed his soft lips on hers. Much to her surprise, he wasn't scared. There wasn't a shiver she felt on his body. The contact of their lips brought goosebumps to her flesh, the little bumps spreading throughout her skin until she was sure there wasn't an inch without a spot. Yoongi either didn't notice or didn't care, and he closed his eyes to deepen their kiss. She returned the sentiment, grabbing the back of his head to keep him in place.
They kissed on the balcony, Destiny's water long forgotten. Their mouths moved in-sync, learning from each other. It wasn't perfect, but every second that ticked by allowed them to adjust their pattern and make it better. By the end, they were out of breath with swollen lips.
Yoongi and Destiny peered at one another. There was no going back now. And Destiny didn't want to. Yoongi didn't either based on the way he was staring at her. He grinned, and she returned it, their hands locking together. "Do you want to go on a date with me tomorrow?" he asked, and she laughed, leaning up to kiss his cheek.
"I'd love nothing more."
