"I Like You Better" //PJM

Fear, it always crept in when he grew distant. It wasn't like Jimin to pull away from your hugs so quickly or for him to avoid your nightly snuggles.

He would come home late and then shut himself away into the small workout spacer set aside in your apartment. He didn't make it home in time for dinner and he left each morning before breakfast.

It was difficult to be patient with his distant attitude. You wanted to confront him so baldy, but you knew that would only upset him further from past experience.

Jimin wasn't eating well again and he was obsessively exercising.
   You knew it.
   His friends knew it.
   He knew it.

All you could do was try to coax him into eating more than a morsel, and that was only when he stuck around long enough for you to do so. Jimin would get like this whenever his insecurities were sneaking in again.

And it never failed to worry you.

You'd start biting your nails again, a habit that Jimin had helped you to break. You'd react to his absence at mealtimes by cooking even more food, thinking that you could convince him to eat more if you cooked too much.

   Of course, that didn't work.
You missed him terribly, but you still didn't know how to confront him.

The opportunity presented itself on its own. One night, as you lay awake in an unsettlingly empty bed, Jimin tried to sneak in quietly. The room was dark, but the street lights outside softly illuminated his figure. His clothes were hanging looser on him than they'd been two and a half weeks ago, and his usually bright eyes looked dull and tired he wasn't smiling and he hadn't been for a while.

He slipped on some pajama bottoms and got into bed beside you, but he didn't move to hold you like he usually did.

Desperate, you latched onto him, wrapping your arms around his chest tightly. He looked at you in surprise.

"I'm sorry (y/n), I didn't mean to wake you." His voice was quiet and tired.

   "I wasn't asleep Jiminie."

"Oh, it's too late for that. You shouldn't have waited up for me."

"I couldn't help it. I miss you." Your voice was quiet and it carried a sadness in it. "You're avoiding me."

"No, I'm not." Jimin's voice was defensive now, and you could feel him pulling out of your arms, so you held on tighter.

"Yes. You are. We haven't been this close for a week and a half, and we sleep in the same bed. You haven't kissed me 'goodnight' or 'good morning' for just as long." Your voice was calm, but still sad. You could feel your eyes begin to fill with tears. Jimin tensed, and then yielded.

"I know. I'm just so busy."

"And you're not eating." Jimin didn't argue. "Why?"

"I need to get in better shape for our comeback." He paused. "And for you." Jimin's voice was soft but stubborn at the same time.

"No." You shook your head in the darkness. "No, you don't need to starve yourself and push yourself too hard for the eyes of others." You knew Jimin was rolling his eyes, but you continued. "Abs aren't more important than your physical health and happiness."

   "You like my abs though."

"Yes, but I like it better when you are healthy and eating well." Your arms tightened around him. "And when you're here with me. When you kiss me 'goodnight' and I wake up beside you." You sighed. "I don't want to lose you Jimin."

"You won't. I- I just want to look good for you."

"You already look good without trying Jimin." Jimin stayed quiet. "Besides I like a soft tummy better than abs." Jimin chuckled and began to stroke your hair. You knew then that you had gotten through to him.

   "Okay."

"Please promise me you'll take better care of yourself." You looked up at Jimin and he smiled slightly.

"I will, as long as you're here with me. " You nodded and snuggled closer to hi. "Hey, wait a minute." Jimin bent his head close to yours and kissed you. "Goodnight Chubs," he whispered.

   "Goodnight Chimchim."

The next morning, Jimin kissed you when you woke up. He smiled brightly as he helped you cook breakfast. He was home in time for dinner that night, and nearly every night after that. You knew the still had moments of doubt, but he was trying.

Jimin was learning what he'd taught you when you'd first met, that you liked him best when he was his healthiest and happiest self.

A/N:   This is important to me. I just want to use it as a reminder that the boys are just human, and as ARMY we should try and encourage them to be healthy first and foremost.
