Night had arrived at the two individuals swapped once more. They continued to do so every night. They started leaving questions for each to answer on their phones when they got back to their own bodies. Leaving even a schedule for each other so it would be easier to pose as each other when they were in different bodies, just so the people around them wouldn't be so suspicious. They shared numbers even, so sometimes, they would text late at night. They learned about each other, about the world they lived in, about the country they lived in. They both were grateful to learn about the world through different eyes. You were amazed by the idol life, the pressure, the work, the stress, but also the love from the fans, the enjoyment of hanging out with band members and the thrill of the audience and standing out on stage. You loved the adrenaline rush you got when you performed, the fun times you've had with Namjoons friends. You were grateful to have this experience, even learning how to speak fluent Korean.
Namjoon was glad to be relieved from the idol life. To live like a normal person. To go to school again and learn new things about your culture, also strengthening his English. He was glad for the peace and quiet but also wanted to help you make a difference in your world. If he could, he would be with you in his own body so you wouldn't feel alone anymore. Namjoon wanted you to get noticed. He wanted you to have friends, to not be alone anymore. It hurts Namjoon when he knew you were alone. There was a competition that allowed students to go overseas to pursue their musical careers. Namjoon knew you had an amazing voice when he heard your covers on your laptop and your excellent sense of writing lyrics. He wanted you to have a better life, and maybe one day, meet you as well. Namjoon, of course, had asked your decision on this, leaving a message for you on your phone. You were unsure, leaving Namjoon to act himself.
Namjoon wakes up again, in the familiar blossom aired room, smiling softly as the wind blew your lace curtains. Today was the day of the competition and Namjoon knew the perfect song to sing for today. He quickly got ready, swinging the bag on his back and carrying the books he needed for the day, he runs out of the house and towards the school. Namjoon slows down to a walk, smiling at the scenery before him. He loved the spring season in your country, the warm sun and the bustling streets filled with people. Namjoon arrived at the school, waving to some students who greeted him a good morning. Namjoon had helped you gain some friends, not close one's per se, but some acquaintances. He was glad at least, it was a start. Heading to your locker, he entered the code and opened it, placing your bag and the rest of the books, leaving the ones you needed for the first two classes in his arms. He takes out the flyer for the competition and checks the time. It was after school hours. That was fine with him. Putting the flier back, he headed to homeroom.
School had ended and Namjoon was sitting in one of the spare chairs in the hall, waiting for his turn. Most of the students that wanted to compete had already gone through their turn, the judges finalising each student. Namjoon recognised most of the judges instantly, most of them being Korean producers or managers looking for someone who was fluent in Korean and English.
"(y/f/n), your up." Namjoon lets outs a shaky breath and walks up on stage. Namjoon takes the mic steady in his hands, so to not let the MIC DROP. (A/N: See what I did there 😂)
"I will be singing an original song called Don't Leave Me." Namjoon nods and the music starts.
Namjoon wakes up with a jolt, recognizing his bedroom. He was back. Namjoon quickly grabs his phone to text you about how the competition went but stops. Your details were gone. Your number was gone. Namjoon panics and looks through his history, the late night calls disappearing one by one.
"Where is her number!? What name did I put her under!?" Namjoon tries to recall your name but his memory starts to disappear of you. Tears start to drip down his face, jumping out of bed and grabbing the book you both had written to each other on. He flipped through the pages, the long conversations disappearing as well. "ANI!" Namjoon runs out of his bedroom, instantly running for his studio. "Please don't be gone! Please don't be gone!" Namjoon runs past the members, all them looking at him worried as they saw the tears.
"Namjoon!?" Namjoon barges through his studio door, opening his computer and looking for the song you created. He couldn't remember the name of the song.
"Please don't leave me." Namjoon whispers, unconsciously typing looking for your song.
"Namjoon!? Gwaenchana!?" Yoongi barges in the room, with the others behind him.
"Where's her song!? Please don't be gone as well as everything else." The members look at Namjoon in worry, wondering who this 'her' is.
"Namjoon." Hoseok places a hand on Namjoons shoulder, hearing his cries.
"I can't remember her. I don't want to forget her. Why can't I remember her!?"
"Who can't you remember?"
"I can't remember her name. She had......had, (h/c) hair I think. (e/c) eyes? I can't remember her."
"Do you know her name?" Yoongi asks and Namjoon shakes his head.
"ANIYO! I don't! I want to remember but I can't!"
"What are you looking for?" Yoongi watches as Namjoon frantically searches his computer. Namjoon sees one stray song on his desktop and not in one of his files, clicking it open and playing it. Namjoon slumps in his seat in relief, the song playing and recognising this as your song.
"It's not gone." the members listen in awe but looks at Namjoon in confusion. "Her song is not gone."
"This is not your song? But you're singing it Hyung." Jungkook says.
"Namjoon. Explain to us what's going on." Jin says. Namjoon recalls the one last piece of information he remembers of you before forgetting it.
"I need to go to (y/c/n) first."
Namjoon was walking down the somewhat familiar streets of (y/h/s), recognising the smell of blossoms. Namjoon explained what he could remember to his members, not caring if they didn't believe him or not. He just needed to see you. Namjoon saw the school building and runs to it, opening the doors of the school to be greeted with various students.
"Namjoon Hyung!" Jimin grasps his arm as students that knew BTS start to shout and scream in surprise.
"OMG ITS BTS!"
"Why are they doing here!?"
"They are much more handsome in person!"
"I think I'm going to faint!" Namjoon ignores the comments and walks to the principal's office.
"Namjoon! The manager isn't going to be happy once he hears what we are doing!" Jin says, trying to stop Namjoon.
"Jin Hyung. I need to find her. You can leave if you want but I'm not."
"Namjoon Hyung-" Taehyung was about to speak when he got cut off.
"-I can't lose her. I need to know why I can't remember her." Namjoon says, shaking his arm from Jin's grasp.
"Namjoon." Hoseok whispers softly, unsure on what to do.
"Ok Namjoon Hyung." Taehyung says. "We will help you look." The other members look at each other unsure but Namjoon keeps walking. The members all follow him, in awe at how Namjoon knew his way around the school as he leads them to the front door of the principles office. Namjoon knocked on the door, entering along with the members when they heard a faint 'come in'. The principle was shocked to see them, confused at why they may be here.
"What can I help you with gentlemen?"
"Can I see all records of the Artist Competition winners." the principle raises an eye but does so.
"We only have had 4 winners, one winner each year." The principle takes out the files and hands them to Namjoon. Namjoon flicks through the first one, discarding it along with the second file as the winners were both boys. He was left with two more files and Namjoon opens the third and fourth. Both girls. One file was a year older than the other, this being the first winner since the competition was established. Namjoon picks up that file, recognising the picture.
"It's her." Namjoon whispers, tracing a finger along the image. "What do you know about this student?" Namjoon hands the file back to the principle and sees sadness overcome his facial features.
"(y/f/n). She was the first winner since the competition was established 4 years ago."
"4 years ago!?" Namjoon questions him.
"Yes. She was an excellent student. Quiet and did not cause trouble. She had been going through some tough times at first, not having any friends. But that changed. As if someone else was inhabiting her body. In the end, she gained some friends, which I'm grateful for. But sadly, she disappeared after she won the competition. She's missing for about 4 years now." Namjoon slumps in his seat. He tried to figure out everything that he was told. His timeline and her timeline was different. 4 years apart and you were missing this whole time. Tears sprung his eyes as Namjoon looked down in his lap.
"Do you have any leads on where she might be?" The principle and the members all heard the crack in Namjoons voice.
"I am sorry sir." The principle told the members, shaking his head as they thanked him, bowing before leaving the school. Jin wrapped an arm around Namjoon, hugging him as he let out a few tears.
"I won't be able to find her anymore. I don't know where she is. I don't remember anything about her now." The members were discouraged, deciding it was time to go back to Seoul.
"I gotta let you know
That I need to let you go
Hard to say goodbye
De mo nigenai
I'm ready to let go
I'm ready to let go
I'm ready to let go
I'm ready to let go
I'm ready to let go"
The music fades and the members cheered once more for a perfect rehearsal. Namjoon pants, smiling softly as he glances at the members, all ecstatic and happy. He straightens himself up on the stage, taking the mic off and heading to the change rooms. He sighs, taking out the picture of her and sitting down on the couch. The members all watch over him by the doorway, a frown on each of their faces.
"Hyung still thinks about her." Jungkook mumbles softly.
"Have you found any leads yet Yoongi?" Jin asks and Yoongi shakes his head.
"Aniyo. It really is like she disappeared. There are no records of her."
"That can't be possible. Is it?" Hoseok asks as the others shrug.
"Why can't we ask Manager Hyung?" Taehyung asks.
"He might not help us remember. We have to focus on our new album." Jimin says.
"Ara, but we should still try Jimin Hyung."
"Boys." All the members jump and turn around to see their manager. "Is Namjoon with you?"
"He is Manager Hyung. He is just resting in the change rooms." Jungkook says, closing the door behind him softly.
"Arraseo. When you get him, meet me on stage. I have news for you." their manager walks off, leaving the members confused.
"Namjoon?" Hoseok opens the door to see Namjoon sniffling. He quickly wipes his tears away and looks up.
"We have to go Namjoon." Yoongi says, placing a hand on Namjoons shoulder.
"Manager Hyung wants to see us on stage." Jin says and Namjoon nods, standing up and following the others on stage. The members were shocked to see a girl standing behind their manager. Namjoon pays no attention, taking out her image and staring at it.
"Boys, welcome the eighth member of your group." The boy's mouth shoots open, shocked as the girl waves timidly. "This is (s/n). She 22 years old and has been training for 4 years. Please look after her and help her fit in."
"Annyeonghaseyo." The girl moves to stand in front of their manager, a hand out. Each member shakes her hand leaving Namjoon to be the last.
"Namjoon?" The manager questions and he jumps, before hurriedly putting the photo away. He looks at the girl and shakes her hand.
"Glad to have you in our group (s/n)."
"Now that you are acquainted, I leave you to rehearsal. She has learned all your songs and choreography so there is no need to teach her, just rearrange the choreography so she fits in." the members nod their head as their manager walks away. The members all head back to the changerooms as the girl picks up the fallen photo. She looks at it and her face falls, a look of shock in her eyes. She looks up and sees Namjoon walk behind the group, hands in his pocket.
"Excuse me." Namjoon turns around and sees the girl holding his photo of her. "You dropped this." the girls responds softly, handing him the photo.
"Gamsahamnida." Namjoon takes the photo and was about to turn around when he felt an arm on his shoulder. He turns back to see the girl with tears in her eyes.
"Why do you have a picture of me?" you whisper softly and Namjoon stands there shocked. He looks down at the picture and back at you.
"It's you." Namjoon says softly, his eyes glassy with tears. You furrow your brows, your mind working in overdrive.
"You know me?" you ask confused.
"Don't leave me
I believe Hashiridasu
No ending. Kimi wa boku no kodou
Tatoe donna ame ni utarete mo
Tatoe donna yami ni kesarete mo
Sukuidasu yo kanarazu
Kimi wa hitori janai." Namjoon sings softly and you take a step back, a hand over your mouth as he sung your song, one that you never released during the 4 years you were training. Faint memories start to come back, tears falling down.
"It really is you. The guy I swapped bodies with." Namjoon nods, wiping away stray tears that ran down his cheek. You jump and hug Namjoon, tears falling down. Namjoon hugs you back, his head on top of yours. He rubs your back as he heard you cry, Namjoon crying himself.
"Shhh. Gwaenchana. I'm here now."
"I missed you so much. It hurt when I couldn't remember you. I knew there was someone I was supposed to remember but I just couldn't. Everything disappeared like you never existed in my life. I missed you so much."
"When I woke up that day, everything started to disappear. I couldn't remember you so I went to your school to look for you. But you were missing. For 4 years. I didn't know where you were." You leaned back, staring at the photo that was in Namjoon's hand, the one that was taken when you won that Competition.
"Gamsahamnida. For everything. If I hadn't won that competition because of you, I don't think I would remember you at all. Or be able to meet you." You whisper.
"I'm so glad I did. I knew you would be an amazing artist. Now here you are. With me." Namjoon hugs you once more and you do the same, burrowing your face into his neck. Tears now long gone, Namjoon sets you down as the members walk up to the two of you.
"Namjoon?" Yoongi questions as he saw you two hugging.
"I found her." Namjoon smiles deeply the guys shocked and staring at you as you wiped your tears away. Namjoon looks down at you and you smile up at him, poking his dimples.
"I missed these. They are so cute." Namjoon chuckles, placing his forehead on yours.
"I missed you the most. I missed you so much." You smile at Namjoon as he leans back.
"Why don't we start over, without us swapping bodies this time." The members chuckle lowly watching the scene unfold before them.
"That's the best idea you have had yet."
"Well. The names (y/f/n).
"Kim Namjoon."
