"Just my email and my phone number huh? Not too suspicious. I can alway change numbers or phones if i get tracked. But what about my email? Meh, I'll give my fake one." As someone who liked to find easier ways to accomplish things, you were entering your details for this seemingly legit website. You wanted to learn Korean, so what better way than sign up online and get a tutor for free. The website describes how your details would be sent to one of their korean multilingual locals who volunteered to help those overseas like yourself.
"If it turns out to go downhill, just block the number and flag their email address. Simple." you mumble, clicking confirm. Your email address and phone number was sent and all you had to do was wait. After having a marathon of watching videos on your laptop about BTS, your phone vibrated. You checked it to receive an email from the website. "That was so quick." you opened your mail and saw the email. "You are successfully partnered with a local in Seoul, Korea. If you would like to continue, click here and you will receive a call from your tutor as well as their email address being sent to you. When you agree to the terms and policies, only then will your address be sent to your tutor." you clicked on the button as well as agreeing to the terms and someone's email address was sent to you. "[email protected]?" your curiosity takes over when your phone suddenly rings. The number shows that it was from Seoul and you pick it up. You mute yourself and put the phone on speaker, waiting for this person who called you to speak.
"Hello?" You let out a huge sigh. The voice sounded young and almost harmless. You unmute the phone and reply back.
"Hi."
"You must be the one that signed up right? For the Korean lessons?"
"I am. Your not some old man like creep, are you?" you heard the guy chuckle as you laugh softly as well.
"No i'm not i promise. If it makes you feel any better, there's a policy that all volunteers and clients must follow."
"Yeah, i read the policy. We are not allowed to send each other pictures or share any other personal details about ourselves to each other."
"That's right. Great, now i just received your email address, so i will send you my timetable. I'm sometimes really busy so just see what times are suitable for you." you wait for a while until a loud ding is heard. You received an email from your so called teacher and opened it up to see the promised schedule of his.
"Whoa. You really are busy!" you saw which days were coloured in grey signalling that he would be busy on those days, which was almost everyday except for late nights that he seemed to be free on.
"Sorry about that. I couldn't get more free time."
"Nah, it's all good. So teach. What should I call you?" you chuckle, turning your attention to the faceless voice.
"Call me Ryan. And you?"
"Call me (y/n)."
"Before we officially start, I was curious. Why did you want to learn Korean?" You hesitate to answer this person but explain to a complete stranger your reason for learning his language.
"I want to travel the world. Go to new places, so i have to learn new languages. Plus, I want to meet my favourite band BTS. I want to learn Korean so I could talk with them. If I ever meet them in person that is."
"I'm sure you will and I'm sure they will appreciate your efforts of learning their language." Ryan chuckles as do you and your mind goes to how he sounds familiar.
"Hey, you awfully sound like Namjoon from BTS." Ryan nervously chuckles and you raise a brow at this.
"I get that a lot but I'm really not."
"Haha same. I get told I look similar to (s/c)." you shake your head and get rid of that idea. There was no way, the one and only Namjoon would volunteer and teach some foreigner Korean. Would he?
~Few Months Later~
You were peacefully sleeping under the covers, unknowingly sleeping well through lunch when a screeching noise rung in your ear. You groaned out, hissing from the cold that hit against your arm as it searched for the source of the noise on the bedside table, without actually get your whole body out from under the warm overs. Head buried in your pillow, your voice came out muffled when you found your phone and answered the call.
"What!?"
"That's a very nice way to greet your teacher."
"Hmmm?" you unknowingly started to once again drift off to sleep, holding onto the phone.
"(Y/N)!"
"I'm up!" you jolt up awake, pushing yourself off the bed.
"I can't believe your still asleep even know." Ryan chuckles as you groan, rubbing your head that now looked like a huge birds nest.
"Calm, its only 2pm." you mumble, lying back under your covers.
"2PM!?"
"Let me be man." You sigh out.
"It's time to get up (y/n). Its so late to wake up at this time. Aren't you hungry?" At that moment, your stomach grumble loudly as food was mentioned.
"I am now." Ryan chuckles on the line as you blush in embarrassment.
"Well, get going and eat. It's time for your lesson as well."
"Ok, ok. Just don't bring your air horns like you did last time."
"No promises ok."
"Yeah ok." you smile as you heard Ryan chuckle lightly, laughing yourself as you freshened up for the day. You quickly brushed your teeth and decided to eat (f/b) while Ryan talked about his day so far.
"How can you sleep for that long?" Ryan asks you, like he almost does on most calls as he calls you while you were mostly asleep.
"I just can and I'm also trying to break my 14 hour record."
"Omg (y/n)!"
"Calm down haha. Anyway, I was up last night writing my graduation speech for tomorrow."
"Wait, graduating? From uni?"
"Yeah. I'm 22. I got into uni early so I was able to get my degree in design and business."
"I can imagine you owning a business." Ryan chuckles as you finish up your breakfast.
"Omg, that's the same thing my teachers have been telling me back when i was in high school."
"Haha. Your future has been predetermined. Speaking of teachers, let's get to work shall we."
~Few Months Later~
As usual as it is, you received a phone call like you would do everyday now, knowing it was Ryan on the other side. You picked up the phone, plugging in your headphones due to the loud noise around you.
"Hey."
"OMG! RYAN!" you squealed loudly into the mic, your hands desperately grasping the most important pieces of paper.
"Whoa! Calm down!" you could hear Ryans voice become softer, knowing he moved away from the phone to escape your loud shrieks of happiness.
"I can't! BTS is coming here! And I got vip tickets!" you were pretty certain Ryan could hear you over the squealing over your own.
"Whoa omg! How!?"
"I don't know. I got an email address from a supposed email of Bighit and I got tickets!"
"It's not a scam right?"
"Nope. Cause guess what, I'm in the auditorium for the concert right now!!" You squealed out and a loud rupture of other squeals was heard around you. You glanced around seeing the excited faces of Army, a grin on your face as well.
"What!?"
"Yeah! The tickets weren't fake!"
"You're so lucky!"
"I just can't wait. This is my first ever concert. And BTS is my first concert. I'm just fidgeting in my chair right now waiting."
"That is sweet of you. Going to a BTS concert as your first."
"Yeah, cause you can never beat your first concert. Omg it's starting. I'll call you later ok."
"Don't worry. I'll call you. Have fun!"
"I will haha. Bye!" you quickly ended the call, tucking away your precious tickets and grasping the edge of your seat as the lights start to dim around you. Your ears start ringing but you ignore it, shrieking with the rest of Army.
You were lucky to be one those who sat at the VIP section, in the first row just beside the stage. You quickly took your phone out, as a spotlight shone on the middle of the stage, showing 7 familiar men facing their back towards the crowd. Fake Love had started and the crowd erupted in singing along with BTS as you did as well. Everyone stood up to cheer them on graceful moving their BTS Bomb's along with the beat. There were tears springing at the corner of your eyes desperately wiping at them from the overwhelming happiness in your heart to see BTS in person, on stage and performing right in front of your eyes. You couldn't take your eyes off of them, at how elegantly they flowed together, how incredibly in sync they were. This was the beauty of BTS, their effort and hardships as well as their love showing through how much they practiced to show their supportive Army.
At one point, Namjoon had locked eyes with the crowd, skimming over the audience. His eyes stopped at your direction but you just smiled, knowing that he could be smiling at anyone. Your wiped your tears away, noticing that Namjoon smiled brightly, his dimples showing. You cried harder, smiling brightly at the 7 men on stage. All too soon, the first song had ended.
"Annyeonghaseyo!" BTS spoke into their microphones and Army replied back.
"How is everyone!?" Hoseok spoke and everyone replied once more.
"I hope there were no tears!" Namjoon mentions and some Army laughs while others respond with 'i couldn't help it' or 'you guys are too beautiful to not cry over' while you smiled silently.
"Maybe you all were crying over seeing me, World Wide Handsome." Jin grinned as the other members laughed or playfully hit his arms.
"How was the first performance!?" Jungkook asks as Taehyung stands next to Jimin, annoying him by poking his cheek.
"It was amazing right!?" Jimin and Taehyung both ask and the crowd erupts, saying 'Yes'.
"What about you Yoongi/Hyung?" all the members shift their microphones to Yoongi and Yoongi just freezes.
"Yeah, we were awesome." Yoongi shrugs, smiling softly at the crowd due to the love Army was showing to BTS.
"MWAHAHAHA." Suddenly, a large shadowy figure was projected on the large wall behind the stage,
"Oh no!" BTS all reply facing the figure.
"It is I, the villain! I am hear to steal Army from you! MWAHAHAHA." The shadowy villain points to Army.
"No! We will protect them!" Confused, you watched BTS gets into position and the next song starts to play as the shadowy figure dissolves away. Anpanman was playing and you laughed, figuring out the whole concept of the little show. As Anpanman was sung, BTS walked around the stage, taking individual pictures or giving high-fives to Army. You didn't notice BTS doing this as you were dancing to the song and just jamming to the beat. You looked up and saw BTS standing before you.
"What's your name?" Namjoon asks you as a large bright blush shone on your cheeks.
"Um, (y/n)." You don't realise Namjoon's eyes widen a little but he gestures to your phone. You give him your phone and the rest of BTS pose with you. You quickly grabbed other Army around you in the photo and bobbed down a little so others behind you could be in it as well. You smiled brightly, waving as the photo was taken. Namjoon handed your phone back to you and you jumped up in joy and in tears, Namjoon chuckling to himself softly before going back to the middle of the stage and dancing. The rest of the concert went like a blur and you frowned as you walked through your door to your apartment. You plopped down on your couch, heavy a loud sigh as your body sagged with the need for sleep. You took out your phone, viewing your recordings and the pictures you took at the concert, smiling once more as you saw the big group photo. You decided to not post this, as it was your little treasure. Your phone suddenly rung and you knew it was Ryan.
"So let me guess, you had fun?" You could hear the smugness in Ryans voice, but his voice was much softer, as if he was tired.
"My heart Ryan. It's just pounding. That was amazing. I couldn't stop crying."
"I know."
"Wait. How do you know?" you sat up straight at this, confused at the moment.
"I was at the concert too."
"What!? You were there!?"
"Yeah. I flew from Seoul to see the concert."
"Damn that dedication. We could've said hi." you frowned, knowing you missed a once in a lifetime chance to see your tutor who you grew to become amazing friends with.
"We don't know what we look like remember."
"True. But then how did you know it was me crying?" you suddenly remember the policy from back when you signed up, feeling a little sketchy to how Ryan would know you.
"I can recognise your beautiful voice anywhere." you snort, chuckling behind your hand as you rolled your eyes.
"Ok haha. Smooth but lame. Don't be a player Mr. Ryan. How do you know it was actually me?"
"Namjoon took your phone and took a group photo with BTS and gave the phone back to you." You stay quiet. You realised that you were the only person to have a group photo with the whole members whereas others had gotten individual members. "You ok?"
"Ok. Yep, you were there."
"Told you."
~Few Years Later~
"Hey Ryan." you had your phone between your ear and your shoulder as you tried to stuff the rest of your belongings in your suitcase.
"Hey. How's it going?"
"Good I guess. Is that screaming in the background?" you stand up, raising a brow at the wreck Ryan would have to go through to look after his roommates.
"Yeah hold on." More screaming was heard between him and his roomies and then there was silence. You chuckle as you hear Namjoon going off at his roommates in Korean.
"Roommates must be tough to deal with."
"They are. So what are you doing now?" you look around your almost empty room, huffing out in fatigue as there was more to pack.
"Packing." you went to pack the rest of your belongings in spare cardboard boxes in your room.
"Why?"
"Oh, I just got promoted to chief assistant." You shrug grinning knowing you hadn't told Ryan this as it was a huge surprise.
"Omg!! Congrats!! When!?"
"A week ago. And now that I'm promoted, I can travel the world. Guess the first place I'm going to."
"Hmm, Korea?"
"Yes!"
"No way! Your coming here!?" you chuckle and grin at how excited Ryan was.
"Yep! I'm staying at Seoul for about a week at a hotel near Bighit. More security in that area." There was more yelling to be heard and something large breaking. You wince at the sound and Ryan cursing.
"So you want to meet up" Ryan chuckles nervously into the phone.
"I'm not sure. You are really busy from what I can tell from your timetable."
"I can make time. For you especially." Ryan says quickly in one breath, a locking sound being heard and more yelling on the other side. You chuckle knowing he had gotten in trouble for breaking whatever it was he broke in his excitement.
"No no it's fine. Plus I would be busy as well. Since I'm working with the manager."
"Right. I was hoping though." you could hear a hint of sadness in Ryans voice and you instantly felt bad.
"Maybe we can, but we need a date that we both are free on."
"Ok! Can't wait!" You hear Ryan saying 'Yes', imagining him fist pumping the air. "When are you leaving?"
"In about two weeks i think."
"Good. That gives us time to finish our lessons together."
"Noooooo. Are we really finished with the lessons?" you swore you had more time and check your calendar. Your heart sunk when you realised Ryan was right. The contract between you two would be expired and he won't be able to teach you anymore.
"Sadly yes. But we can still contact each other." you sat on your bed amidst the various boxes, a hand over your heart.
"Phew. I didn't want to lose you." you mumbled the last sentence but didn't realise Ryan had heard you.
"I don't want to lose you too (y/n)." Suddenly, your phone dinged, notifying you that you had gotten a message.
"I have to go now Ryan. Just got a message from the boss."
"Ok. Let's talk again later."
"Ok bye Ryan."
"Bye."
~2 Weeks Later (The Day Of Your Departure To Korea)~
"Hey Ryan." it was about 4am in the night and you ran around your room, checking you had everything packed and ready to go.
"Hey. How's it going?" Ryan yawned as you heard typing in the background. You blushed at his deep voice, shaking your head away from the thought.
"Nothing much really. Just worried about tomorrow." you yawned as well.
"You will do fine. I believe in you." you smiled as you grabbed your purse with your belongings, checking around the house if everything was already transported to your new apartment in Seoul.
"Thank you. But I feel like I will still mess up."
"You're a hard worker. All the late nights you've had will be all worth it."
"Thank you." Checking you had nothing left, you waited until your boss came to pick you up to head to the airport.
"How about we have a test. Just to keep your mind off tomorrow"
"A test on what?" your furrowed your brows at this and sat down on the floor, leaning against a wall in the kitchen.
"You say a sentence in Korean and ill recite it in English and I'll tell you if it's pronounced correctly." you shrugged, hoping it might get your mind off things.
"Sure" the first sentence you recited was a greeting and you had pronounced it correctly. The second was a sentence on a certain topic Ryan had given you. But since you were so tired, you pronounced it wrong.
"I know that you are Kim Namjoon." Your last sentence had shocked Ryan as he recited it back to you in English. "But I'm not."
"Yes you are. Namjoon. I knew from the first day you called."
"How?" Namjoon's voice wavered and you sighed.
"I'm an Army. I can tell it was your voice." you smiled bitterly, waiting for the moment for Namjoon to end the call and never talk to you again.
"So you knew this whole time?" Namjoon's voice was soft, almost as if he was in deep thought.
"Yes I did. And before you say anything, let me remind you that no one knows I know you. Not even the paparazzi. I kept your secret so you don't have to worry."
"You knew it was me all along." Namjoon questioned and you nodded.
"Please don't be upset with me Namjoon. You're still a person, a human being. I don't see you only as an idol, but as a normal person. And my best friend."
"Really?" You smiled down at the phone, thanking God Namjoon wasn't angry at you.
"Yes really." You suddenly hear a loud knock outside your door and you know it was your boss who came to pick you up. You quickly grabbed your purse and your suitcase and walked out of the house with your phone in hand. "I'm sorry Namjoon. But I have to go." You lock the door to your apartment, pocketing the keys.
"Wait! When will we talk again?" You could hear the sadness in Namjoons voice almost as if he knew it was going to be your last call.
"I'm not sure. Annyeong Namjoon. It was amazing to meet you and talk with you." You ended the call as you entered the passenger seat of your boss's car. You sighed sadly, looking at your lock screen and smiling sadly at the group photo. The car engine revved to life and started its journey to the airport as you left everything behind forever. You closed your eyes and lay your head against the window, trying to not cry.
