🍭🔥 Little Bird (PJM)

Money can't bring happiness but it can bring all kinds of luxuries. Money also brings responsibilities and sleepless nights.

You wouldn't be able to tell though, that Kim Baram ever had sleepless nights. She had the flawless glass skin without a single blemish, her small face a dream of every girl. She had sharp eyes, perfectly pointed nose and equally alluring lips. She was what people would consider, The Campus Goddess.

Accompanied with her bodyguard all the time, she had a dark, intimidating aura around her. People hardly saw her smile genuinely and if she did smile, it wasn't a pretty sight. The girl was extremely cold.

Her dark straight hair were always styled perfectly, her expensive clothes, shoes and a matching bag for every outfit, an example of her rich background. She was the heir of one of the country's most influential company. The sole heiress.

Everyone saw the riches, the grand parties and luxury but no one saw what lay behind that saccharine smile.

Fake it till you make it, her mother had taught Baram at a very young age. She had successfully perfected her pretty smile which even she had started to think, was her true smile.

But somehow the students in the university saw right through the fakeness. What they didn't see, was how lonely she was.

Baram was sick of being told who to befriend. She had cried too much when one her first genuine friend, who coincidentally happened to be a girl from a middle class family, was told to keep distance from Kim Baram. Baram had thrown a tantrum, something very unusual for a small girl with everything she could ask for, according to her parents.

Her punishment was, she never saw her friend again.

Since then she refrained from making friends. Soon, she was labelled antisocial as she only kept to her books.

Still, she longed to feel as if she belonged to someone. She longed for a friend, a lover, a true family. She longed to feel all those emotions that the characters in the romance novels, she sneaked in the dead of night, felt. She longed to fly.

It was once again a new day, the same routine. Baram was studying business for obvious reasons and was in the first year of college. Having been home tutored, she had been quite excited to go to the college and experience new things but then her parents had warned her, "Study hard, you need to become capable enough to handle the company. No distractions will be allowed."

She was once again, all alone. She was once again walking with her head up, eyes down through the corridors followed by her bodyguard and being praised for her beauty and cursed for having so much money and yet being so arrogant.

All she wanted to do was escape....

5 pm. Finally, the end of day. The students all happily started exiting the campus, some hungry, some going to the karaoke for some fun. Some just tired and longing to sleep.

Even though it was time to leave, Baram didn't want to. She walked slowly through the campus, watching everyone smiling and enjoying with their friends. It hurt to watch but she still did, wondering if their happiness could somehow transfer into her.

As she walked, her feet took her to the auditorium. There was no one infront of it but she could hear music coming from inside.

Curious, she pushed the door slowly...
"Miss, we should get going." The bodyguard's voice stops her from opening the door. Baram turns around and though she doesn't like it, gives him her best glare.

"Not yet, Jihyun. I want to go inside." She says sternly. "But miss, your mother asked for your presence at six for a gathering." Jihyun tries reasoning though he can see that the young miss isn't going to listen to him.

"We won't be late, Jihyun. I promise you and it's not going to take much time." With that she opened the door and went inside only to be struck speechless with what she saw.

In the dim auditorium, the only light was focusing on the stage. A young man stood there with his eyes closed. As the music picked up he too, started moving. His slender body did moves so intricate and so amazing, Baram could only watch bewitched. The man in his complete white ensemble and silvery hair looked like an angel as he made the white sheet move according to his will.

His face was so pure in that moment, so beautiful and happy despite the melancholic vibe of the music, she felt herself smiling. It seemed as he flowed like a fluid stream over the stage, she flowed along with him. He aroused something inside her that even she didn't know existed.

But then it all shattered as the man stopped and opened his eyes only to look straight at her, as if he had sensed her presence. Baram gasped as she saw the man's eyes. They were filled with curiosity as he kept looking at her but what made her turn around and make a mad dash for her car was the knowledge that this man had seen her vulnerable side.

You can't show your true feelings to anyone if you want to survive in this cruel world.....
It was an eternal truth, Baram had learnt the hard way and she couldn't risk letting anyone use her for her vulnerabilities.

For the next few days, Baram couldn't get that dancer out of her head. Park Jimin was his name, she had found out and he was in the art and culture department. He belonged to a humble family but his talent and skills had got him admission in one of the best University in the country. Baram had also found out that he was on his way to represent the country on an international level.

Knowing all this, she couldn't help but try to avoid him at all costs. She didn't want to be the reason for the guy's downfall. Her family was quite strict.

Yet, he wasn't going to be stopped.

***

Jimin knew about Kim Baram. Her father had been the one to help him get the scholarship in the college. He was forever indebted to the kind man but he never knew his daughter was in so much pain.

Jimin was the kind of guy everyone wanted to befriend. Kind, loving and most of all caring. Girls were all over him yet he always focused on his dance. The last few days, he couldn't.

The day he saw Baram watching him and the way her always sad eyes lit up for a moment snapped something inside him. He wasn't the type of guy who could see anyone in pain and so, he decided to befriend the anti-social campus queen.

Thump!

Startled by the sudden sound, Baram looks up from her book as she sat in the library. Her eyes widened as she found the man she had been avoiding all these days, sitting before her with the prettiest smiles she had ever seen.

"Wh-What are you doing?" She asked, cursing herself for stuttering. Jimin only smiled and leaned forward on his elbows. "Giving you company while you study. You can't be alone forever, you know."

Baram blinked, her mind completely out of control as she tried to figure out if she should let this handsome guy sit here or make him go away. But it was as if something in her stopped from saying anything.

This was the first time anyone had decided to come to her and initiate any kind of conversation. And hence, she went back to studying as Jimin continued to sit infront of her, going through a random book.

This continued for almost a week. Just Jimin giving company to Baram as she studied. There were no words exchanged.

"Do you want to go to karaoke?" Jimin asked suddenly one day. The tip of the pencil in Baram's hand broke as his words registered in Baram's mind. She scrunched her eyebrows in confusion. "Why me? Don't you have other friends?"

He tilted his head to the side, his lips curved in a mischievous smile. "I do but I want to make you my friend. What do you say?"

Yes! She wanted to say but couldn't. She looked back at her bodyguard who stood a few feet away, giving her privacy. Jimin must've understood the storm going on in her head. He was no stranger to how tight her schedule could be.

"Yah, Baram. Don't look back at that bodyguard. Just tell me if you want to go out."

"I can't, Jimin."

He shook his head, smirking. "Just go to the bathroom near the chemistry lab after five minutes. Don't be late." With that he got up and left, leaving Baram flustered.

A spark of excitement ran through her spine as she realised what his plan was and for the first time in her life, she went against the set schedule. She wanted a friend.

Her bodyguard had caught up with the youngsters' plan and even though it went against his orders, he let the lonely girl enjoy. He was tired of seeing a youthful girl's life being wasted.

It wasn't long before Jimin and Baram were sneaking out of the college on a daily basis. It wasn't long before Baram started laughing and crying like a usual 20 year old. It wasn't long before the two friends realised their feelings for each other ran deeper than just friendly love.

Jimin sneaked Baram into his hostel room one day. It wasn't unusual for the boys in the dorm to see a girl in the dormitory, but it was definitely unusual to see Kim Baram there with a real smile on her face.

"Jimin, I'm afraid." She confessed as Jimin locked the door of his room and pulled her towards her. "Of what, Baram? I promise you, I won't do anything that you don't wish for."

Baram smiled sadly. "I love you so much, Jimin that I don't care what happens to me but I do care for you. The people seeing us like this, it scares me. You don't know the power my parents hold."

Jimin could only chuckle. "Trust me, my little bird, I know about them. Your father was the one who suggested my name for the scholarship and I'm pretty sure I got in on his preference but know this, I'm not afraid of your parents. Our love can get through anything."

As the couple embraced each other passionately, enjoying these moments of privacy, a call was made to the Kim industries' CEO.

***

Baram cried uncontrollably as she sat on her knees, her hands clasped together as she begged to her father. "Please, father. Please leave Jimin out of this. Don't ruin his life. I'll do whatever you say." She cried while her father only rolled his eyes, her mother silently fuming at her pathetic daughter.

"That's the problem, Kim Baram. You didn't listen when I told you the first time that you can't have friends or a boyfriend. If he was from a prestigious family we would have supported you but that guy! That dancer who has nothing! What were you thinking?" The old man bellowed making the young woman flinch.

"I'm sorry, father. Please, give me another chance. I'll break all ties with him. Just let him continue studying as if nothing happened. I swear, father. This won't happen again. I swear. Please, please...."

As the girl begged sobbing, the father's heart softened a little. No matter what, he loved his only child and he did only what he thought was right for her, even if it meant clipping her wings.

"Fine." He said after a long time and Baram lifted her head expectantly. "I'll not touch Jimin but you have to promise me, you will never contact him again."

"Yes, I promise." She replied hastily. She could do anything to make Jimin's dream to become a world famous dancer and if it meant letting him go, so be it.

Her bags were packed overnight, a ticket and admission in a business school overseas, confirmed. Before dawn, Baram was on the plane that would put great distance between her happiness and the love of her life.

Jimin couldn't believe that Baram just left. It all felt like a dream. He had her in his arms just yesterday and now she was gone. She didn't even pick up her phone and that made him go crazy with worry.

But then he saw her bodyguard standing outside the practice room with a crestfallen face. Jimin didn't waste time as he took the man's shoulders and shook him a little.

"Where is she? Where is Baram and why isn't she answering her phone?" Jihyun sighed sadly as he clasped the young dancer on shoulder.

"I'm sorry, Jimin but Miss Baram's parents found out about your relationship with her and they threatened her with your career. She had no option but to cut all the ties and leave the country. I'm here only because she asked me to deliver a message to you." With that he passed Jimin a letter and left.

Dear Jimin,

I love you. I know I have told you that many times but I don't think you understand how much.

I can move heaven and earth for you. I can give my life for you and I'm willing to leave you if it means you can achieve your dreams.

I won't ask you to wait but I'll ask you to work hard to become the best dancer this world has ever seen. Show all these uptight high class people that money isn't everything. Living off someone's sadness is not as good as they might think.

I don't know if I'll be able to ever see you again but know that I'll always love you.

Yours only,
Baram.

Jimin broke down in tears as he read and reread the letter. He couldn't even start to imagine how hurt she must be. His happy, little bird was again in a cage.

In that moment he promised himself that he'd work really hard to achieve his dream, the dream for which his little bird had given up her happiness and freedom.

When he finally achieved that dream, he'd meet her right infront of her prejudiced family, take her face in his hands and kiss her infront of the whole world, declaring his love for her. He'd make her smile with pure happiness again, giving her everything she deserved. He'd free her from the cruel cage and help her fly again.....

She would be one with the wind, just like her name.

Their love truly held the power to get over everything.
