M/N's P.O.V
There's this boy. A boy, I had known since I was old enough to read or write my name. He had been my closest companion, though I was always wished he was much more. That we could be much more.
I had witnessed him get girlfriends, only for them to leave him for another guy or for them to break things off since they didn't correspond with one another. I was always there to comfort him, never saying 'I told you so' when they broke up or she left him. It was heartbreaking to see him so sorrowful and heartbroken. It killed me, inside and out, to watch the tears pool in his beautiful brown eyes and fall slowly yet gracefully down his honey-toned cheeks as he sobbed. I would gently wipe them away, hoping he would finally see I was always there for him and that I wouldn't dare harm a hair on his head, let alone, leave him for someone else.
But he never saw me. It hurt, of course, but maybe I just have to accept that he's straight and I'm not. I'm a gay man who fell in love with his straight, childhood best friend. It was somewhat funny to me; it was ironic and cliché. My entire situation was something you'd see in some cliché, teen movie.
To try and help take his heartache away from the girls who had hurt him, I always left a single rose in his locker. Hoping, he would realize it was me, I just couldn't help myself. Roses had always been his favorite type of flowers, any color would do, and the way his eyes sparkled when he saw one of the roses in his locker, always managed to make my day.
He would constantly ramble on and on about who he thought gave him the roses, of course, he would list off all the girls he thought could've potentially done it. I wouldn't say anything, knowing that if I opened my mouth, the words I desperately wanted to say would slip out and quickly end our beautiful relationship.
"Earth to (M/n)! Is anyone home in there?" He playfully asked, waving his hand in front of my face. His unique laugh filled the autumn breeze, making my heart skip a beat, nearly killing me in the process.
"Yeah, I'm here," I replied, staring up at him, admiring every attribute of his flawless face. "What did you say, again? Sorry I dozed off for a bit..." I weakling smiled, rubbing the back of my neck lightly.
"I was talking about the roses in my lockers, again! I have a secret admirer, (M/n), this is big news!" He chuckled, gently holding the newest red rose in his hand as if it were to break at any moment.
His eyes glanced over every curve, every leaf, and every petal the singular rose had to offer. "I wonder who gives me such gorgeous roses, I almost have enough for a full bouquet at home." He peered up at me, giving me a small grin.
"You've been so quiet all of lunch, do you have any ideas for who it could be? I asked the boys, but they won't spill the beans and it's obvious they know who it is." He asked me, his eyes locking with mine. I wanted to look away, but his gaze was so entrancing, captivating me into some sort of spell that made sure I wouldn't look away.
"I don't know. It's been none of the girls so far, so what if it's a guy?" I inquired, hoping he wouldn't yell at me for the absurd idea. "Would you be okay if it was a guy?" I added, gambling with my luck and hoping he wouldn't combust with outrage.
"I'd be fine if it was a guy. Most of the guys at this boring college are really cute." He nonchalantly answered, glancing at the red rose before looking up at me. "Me being one of them, of course. And you, as well." He smirked, dramatically running a hand through his black hair before placing the thornless rose behind his ear.
"You like guys and never thought to tell me?" I asked, raising an eyebrow at him. "Damn, Seokjin, what happened to telling each other everything?" He laughed, giving me his signature smile.
"I thought I'd told you? Apparently, I didn't." He chuckled, clapping his hands together as he laughed. "Yeah, I learned I kind of like guys more than girls, but I still like girls... So I guess I'm bisexual." He took a deep breath before meeting my gaze. "Is that okay with you? Like this won't end our friendship?" I smiled at his words, feeling my stomach erupting with butterflies.
"Of course not, Silly!" I exclaimed, feeling tears form in my eyes, it felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders. "I'm gay! I've wanted to tell you for so long, but I didn't think you'd accept me." I weakling smiled, taking his hand into mine.
"You're gay?" He repeated to himself as he looked at me. "We've been friends for nearly eighteen years and we both never thought to tell the other we weren't straight... Wow." He added, causing me to giggle at his disbelief.
Maybe there was a chance he actually did like me, maybe there wasn't. All I can do is hope, it's all I can do.
