M/N's P.O.V.
"You know, I excepted you to be some snooty, rich kid, but you don't seem to be anywhere near that criteria." He remarked as he sat down next to me at the lunch table we usually sat at. A small smile graced his honey-toned cheek on as he held a coffee cup in one hand and glanced up at me."I'm glad you aren't like that." I felt my heart fluttered at his words as a blush rose upon my cheeks. I had known him for nearly a year now and I still couldn't restrain the feelings I had grown for him. It was almost as if my heart purposely wanted to expose me and ruin our friendship. Parents always told their children that love isn't a choice and that you can't pick who you fall in love with. Some of us would believe them and some wouldn't, but in the end, our parents were brutally correct. I knew I shouldn't get my hopes up, but I couldn't help but daydream if we would be a cute couple or not. I would always let my stupid imagination get the best of me and let my mind wander and create atrocious daydreams where we were together and happy, my stupid mind just couldn't fully accept the painful fact that he probably wasn't even interested in guys.
My mind was cruel and unmerciful towards me when it came to thinking about Jung Hoseok the boy that occupied my thoughts nearly 24/7. He wasn't one of the popular kids, but he was an extremely pretty and talented person, meaning girls would constantly ask him out as I stood there next to him as tears formed in my eyes. The girls wouldn't even bother to speak to me, they avoided me, not even bothering to tell me what I had done to hurt them.
"Thank you, Hope," I spoke and gave him a soft smile as I poked at the Bibimbap that I had brought from the cafeteria. "Did you manage to get a date for the formal dance yet?" He looked at me, his brown eyes widened slightly.
"I might not go." He replied before taking another sip of his coffee. "What about you?" I shook my head, nearly laughing aloud at his question. Why would anyone ever ask me to prom?
"I'm not as beautiful and talented as you, Hoseok, so probably no one is going to ask me out," I stated as hunger completely faded from my stomach at the thought of him going to the dance with some random girl he barely even knew. "I can assure you, I'll probably end up staying home."
"You are beautiful and talented, don't say such mean things about yourself!" He exclaimed, causing a few people to peer over at us before continuing to eat their lunches. "Don't you dare put yourself down or I will write you an entire essay about how much I love and appreciate you!"
I frowned when he mentioned the word love, it was the huge smack of realization that I desperately needed. I needed to get it through my head that he probably won't see me the same way I saw him and that I needed to accept that and move on. He only saw me his best friend and as the little brother he never had. He saw me only as a friend, who was basically part of his family.
"Don't do that," I muttered as I pushed my food away and grabbed my half-empty coffee cup. He gave me a concerned look before glancing down at my food with worry.
"Is there something wrong with the food?" He asked as he picked up the plastic black fork and began to poke the food I had lost interest in. "It seems fine to me... Are you alright?" I nodded, not daring to let the three words slip off my tongue.
"I'm fine, just tired." I assured him. He nodded, taking another sip of his coffee before standing up.
"Why don't we go do something fun?" He inquired as he stood up from his chair and held his free hand out to me. I stared at him, my brain suddenly decided now was a good time to lose control. "Earth to (M/n)." I blinked my eyes a few times, forcefully dragging myself out of my before giving him an apologetic smile and taking his hand. My stomach filled with butterflies that desperately wanted to escape, while my heart began to do 360 spins.
"W...What did you want to do?" I asked as he dragged me away from the outside lunch tables. "Hope, are you going to answer me?" He only giggled at my confusion and didn't bother to answer my questions.
"It's a secret, Silly." He replied as he glanced back at me for a split second before looking forward again. "You'll know when we get there." I lightly nodded as my eyes widened when I saw our hands were intertwined.
