Reminder: In this imagine, the Bubonic Plague (Black Plague or the Black Death) comes back and threatens the world once again! It's still not completely gone today, but it's extremely rare to get it!

Five months later...

M/N's P.O.V.

Things only went downhill after His Majesty had read that document. The medicine finally came and the people demanded an explanation, so he told them the painful truth. He told me he had hoped they would take his words to heart and begin to be more hygienic, but I knew he didn't expect them to take his words so seriously and assume they were all going to die. They began to shun anyone who simply coughed or sneezed. They isolated the ill and only doctors with proper masks and gear could go near the sick. It hurt Seokjin to see them like this, he just wanted them to be aware of the potential danger. The Black Death had left everyone terrified. Would we even be able to survive such an awful disease a second time? I tried to think positively, but pessimistic thoughts clouded my head.

"(M/n), come here." I was drawn away from my paperwork and my thoughts by a soothing yet familiar voice. I looked up, only to see Seokjin standing there. His eyes studied me, glancing at me up and down as I sat at his desk. We had gotten close over the past few months, so close that he allowed me to sit at his desk and call him by his first name.
"Yes?" I asked, my worrying gaze meeting his. "Are you alright?" He softly nodded and pulled a chair up next to me, his eyes drooping with worry and fear.
"I'm just scared." He quietly spoke, laying his head on my shoulder. Tears quickly filled eyes as he wrapped his arms around my waist. "I don't wanna lose you or any of my citizens..." I wanted to reassure him that the plague wouldn't reach us, but I had no way of knowing if it would or not. I didn't know what would happen, I could only hope and pray that it wouldn't reach us, but there was no certainty that it wouldn't.
"Hey, look at me." He lifted his head up and met my eyes. "Don't lose hope. Hope is all we have left." Tears slowly fell from his brown eyes as I turned towards him and wrapped my arms around him, rubbing his back reassuringly.
"What are we going to do?" He asked, looking so vulnerable. I didn't know how to respond. I just sat there my eyes studying every feature of his face. "Caelestis was said to be heavily infected last week, it's a good thing no one has traveled there in a while..." My heart dropped hearing the name of the kingdom I had come from. My home was infected, meaning I, too, could possibly be infected. Panic filled me and I wanted to push Seokjin off of me, screaming that I was probably sick. I wanted to tell him I was a monster. I shouldn't have ignored the symptoms that I knew all too well. I should've just stayed there with my mother instead of being such an awful disease back to the kingdom.

I pulled away from him, fear filling my body as I stood next to the window and looked out at the beautiful scenery.
"I... I think I'm infected." The words felt so surreal as they fell off my tongue. I wouldn't have ever assumed I'd die at such a young age, but it was no surprise since no one made it past thirty around here. (M/n is around twenty to twenty-five, it's all up to you all!) He stared at me, not daring to say a word as the brightness his eyes once held quickly faded away.
"No, no, no...! No, you can't be!" He began to sob, resting his face in the palms of his hands. "How?"
"I recently went to go visit my mother in Caelestis and if it started there..." I couldn't bear to finish my sentence. I didn't want it to be true, but it would explain so much. It would explain why I had that awful headache yesterday and why my muscles hurt so much.

His pitiful sobs filled the room, causing my heart to shatter. "I know it was a stupid move, but I just want to see if she was okay." I wanted to hug him. I wanted to kiss away his tears and tell him everything would be okay, but I knew I couldn't.
"I... I don't... want to l-lose you..." He whispered, his voice barely audible. Tears filled my (e/c) eyes as I tried not to look at him. "How long ago did you visit Caelestis?" I knew if I looked at him, I would run over to him and hold him as he cried. I couldn't risk infecting him as well, his kingdom needed him more than I did right now. He stood up and faced toward me, his eyes now red and puffy. "P...Please... look at me." I turned towards him, wanting nothing more than to comfort the man I had grown to like as more than a friend. "Tell me, (M/n)."
"Yesterday..." I whispered, knowing how stupid it was to leave the kingdom gates. "I'm so sorry, Seokjin."
