Jungkook
A friend of mine invited me to a dance studio she goes to so I can practice my dancing for a bit. I have to learn a contemporary piece because my dance teacher said all I learn is pop, hip hop, etc. I'm more used to doing choreography that has quick speed. I've never tried learning a contemporary piece before because I feel like I'm more comfortable with choreography that matches my personality. Energetic.
When I entered the building, I saw my friend, Bee.
"Hey you made it", she said to me. I put my stuff down and waited until the floor was clear.
"You excited to learn something new?", she asked.
"No. I can't believe I have to do this to pass the class", I said.
"Don't worry. With a lot of practice and concentration, you'll nail it", she said.
We sat down on the floor and watched a couple of guys practice.
"Jungkook is totally checking you out", she said.
"Who?", I asked looking at her.
"The guy in the middle with black hair", she said. I looked at the direction she was looking at. I made eye contact with the guy named Jungkook I guess.
"He's not checking me out. He's looking at himself in the mirror", I said tying my shoes.
"C'mon. He's cute and you're hot as hell. Both of you can dance. And you're the same age", she said.
"No no no no. I know what you're trying to do and it won't work", I told her.
"What? I'm just saying. We moved to Korea to start a new life. Why don't you make yours spontaneous?", she said.
"Are you saying my life is boring", I asked her.
"Yes. Except when you're with me", she said sticking her tongue out. I rolled my yes and laughed.
"C'mon they're done. Let's go practice", I said grabbing her hand.
While she was on her side practicing her routine, I kept messing up. The dance is supposed to be calm and relaxing. Bee told me I look like a rusty robot who doesn't know the difference between left and right.
"I'm never gonna be able to do this", I said slouching.
"You gotta relax and focus", Bee said.
"It's only been a couple of minutes and I'm already tired", I told her.
"I think you need some help", she said.
"Jimin! Jungkook!", Bee yelled.
"What are you doing??", I whispered to her.
"If you want to do this piece perfectly, you're gonna need some help from people who have more experience", she said.
"Hey Bee."
"What's up?"
"This is my friend Iris. She needs to perfect a contemporary piece for her class or she'll fail. Do you think you can help her?", she asked them.
"Sure", Jungkook said looking at me.
She turned to wink at me and walked away to her side.
"So show us what you have so far?", Jimin asked.
When the music turned on, I started doing the moves.
"Wait. You're too tense. Your hand is supposed to sway but it looks like you're trying to kill a fly", Jimin said.
"You guys don't have to help me you know", I said.
"Yes we do. You're gonna make a fool of yourself if we don't", Jungkook said.
"Well gee thanks", I said sarcastically.
I did the routine again but they kept stopping me every time I got a part wrong.
"Can we stop? It's been 5 hours and I'm hungry", I said.
"Sure. We'll continue later", Jimin said before he turned.
"Wait. You're still gonna help me?", I asked.
"Well yea. You haven't gotten a single move right. Meet us here in 2 hours", Jimin said before he left.
"Ugh", I said while I sat on the floor.
"Contemporary isn't really your style", Jungkook said as he sat down in front of me.
"Really? I thought I was a professional", I said.
"And you're bad with sarcasm as well", he said. I gave him a look and he just chuckled.
I looked around the room and noticed Bee wasn't around.
"Are you looking for your friend? She left like two hours ago", he said.
"We were supposed to eat together", I said slouching.
"I can go with you if you want", he said smiling.
"I don't even know you", I said.
"You can get to know me", he said. I nodded and put on my sweater.
We made our way to a nearby fast food restaurant and ordered two burgers.
We walked to a pier while we ate.
"So what's the deal with you and contemporary dancing?", he asked.
"It's just not me. I'm used to hip hop and pop mostly. I've spent two years only learning that", I said.
"Contemporary's nice. You just need more practice and you'll be able to do it with no problems", he said.
"Hopefully", I told him.
"You're thinking about it too much. That's why you're so tense when you're dancing. You have to pretend like it's nothing. Don't think that you're being forced to do it. Think about times when you felt free", he said.
"That's deep. But with dance class, I never feel free", I said.
"Come here", he said pulling my arm. He headed towards the end of the pier. I heard some music a guy was playing with his speakers.
"What are you doing?", I said.
"You need to learn how to relax. Have you ever danced to a slow song before?", he asked. I shook my head. He went towards the guy and whispered something. The guy just nodded.
"So ready?", he said.
"For what?", I told him.
"To dance", he said taking my hand.
"Oh no no no no. I'm not dancing in front of everyone", I said.
"That's the reason why you can't dance. You think too much. Pretend they aren't there", he said. He took my hand and placed it on his right shoulder. Then he took my other hand and held it with his left hand. He pulled me closer. Then we swayed around. I looked at my feet to make sure I wouldn't step on him.
"Don't look at your feet. Look at me. Rela- OW", he said.
"Oops sorry! I'm not good at this", I said.
"That's because you're tensed up right now. Breathe. And look at me", he said taking my hand again. A couple of stepping on his feet later, I just focused on him. Admiring each feature on his face. I didn't even realize both of my arms were wrapped loosely around his neck.
"See you're doing it", he said smiling. I shook my head as he interrupted my thoughts. I looked around and noticed he's right.
"I'm doing it!", I said jumping up and down. I hugged him to make sure he knows I appreciate his help.
"Thank you thank you thank you thank you", I said.
A minute later I pulled away blushing.
"We should get going", I said still blushing.
We walked along the pier in silence. His hand kept brushing up against mine. Seconds later I felt his hand intertwine with mine. I looked down at our hands then at his face. I blushed intensely when I saw him smiling. I looked forward and tried hiding my smile.
We entered the dance studio to find Jimin and Bee there.
"Well finally! You guys took forever!", Bee said.
"What do you mean? We got here just in time", I said.
Bee looked at us then our hands then back at us. She smirked along with Jimin. I blushed again and quickly let go of his hand.
"We should get started", Jungkook chuckled.
Minutes go by and I did the routine with no mistakes.
"I did it! Finally!", I said dropping my body onto the floor.
"See. You were relaxed. How did it feel?", he asked sitting down next to me.
"Like I won a medal", I said looking at him.
I looked around the room and didn't see Bee nor Jimin.
"Where'd they go?", I said.
"They left", he said.
"I should get going", I said getting up.
"Let me walk you", he said. I nodded and headed towards the exit.
When we were in front of my door, I thanked him for walking me home. I put the keys in the keyhole and was about to open the door.
"Wait", he said. I stopped what I was doing and looked at him. Silence took over. He got closer and cupped both of my cheeks. I saw him lick his bottom lip. I closed my eyes and felt something warm on my cheek. I opened my eyes and realized he kissed my cheek. I saw him smirk.
"Goodnight", he said before walking away.
"Tease", I whispered but loud enough for him to hear. He just chuckled and walked off. I entered the house and thought about that night with Jungkook.
