Chapter 15

Everything in sight got blurry, and I blacked out.

-unknown amount of time later-

"Who is he, boss?"

"I met him yesterday. He's not a threat"

"He's sure taking a while to get up"

Voices? Are they... talking about me?

I rubbed my eyes, and then opened them up a little.

I was in a dimly lit room that seemed to be underground. I was lying on the hard floor.

I tried to sit up, but I had difficulties. Pain split through my head, and my muscles were tense and sore from lying on the hard surface.

"Boss, he's getting up!"

I heard someone walk towards me. The person helped me up, and lead me to a cushioned seat.

When my eyes adjusted to my surroundings, I fully opened them and looked around. I was sitting on a rather run-down couch, but it was way more comfortable then the floor.

I looked to my left and saw a familiar person sitting beside me.

Me: "Namjoon! What's going on here? Where am I?"

Namjoon: "I'm sorry, you were knocked out so that you wouldn't know where you're being held. First, I must be sure you're someone to be trusted"

Me: "how can I prove that to you?"

Namjoon didn't answer right away. He had to think first.

Namjoon: "hmm I guess you should tell me how you ended up in the slums. You seemed new here when I met you"

I sighed.

Me: "I lived a normal, good life before this but a few days ago my mother died, and dad revealed he was with another woman. I refused to move in with them, so I ended up here"

Namjoom: "how do you even make a living?"

Me: "I found work at a bakery"

Namjoon lifted one of his eyebrows.

Namjoon: "you don't do work for anyone suspicious or dangerous?"

Me: "I don't. If I'm approached by someone shady, I manage to get away from them"

Namjoon: "then it's settled! You're trustworthy, so let's be friends?"

Me: "oh ok sounds good"

After that conversation, Namjoon allowed for me to leave and gave me a map that showed how to get from there to where I was before I was knocked out. I returned home safely that night. No one even bothered to attack, which I found somewhat odd.

The next few days were normal. I went to work, then went to see Namjoon. Sometimes he would need to leave his so-called "base" for, as he worded it, "business."

Today, was one of those days.

I got to Namjoon's base, and he claimed he had business to take care of. I insisted that I go with him, and with great reluctance he allowed it.

We walked for quite some time. Namjoon even brought along some men that I guess are friends of his ?? Well.... friends with weapons...

I started to get anxious. Where were we going? What was the plan? Was I in potential danger? And lastly.. why were we making our way to the city?

I wanted to ask these questions to Namjoon, but he seemed so focused that it was almost frightening.

Eventually, we reached a rather nice, tall building. Namjoon and "his men" went inside but I was ordered to stay back, and not wander around the premises.

Obeying what I was told, I waited outside the building.
I waited..
And waited...
And waited.......

GAHHHHHH THIS IS UNBEARABLE!!!

I assumed it had only been ten minutes, but it felt like much longer.

It couldn't hurt just to walk around a little bit. I won't go too far.

There was a small park nearby. And by small, I mean a few trees surrounding a courtyard. There was a beautiful fountain at the center. Five columns surrounded the courtyard, too. The area I now stood felt like a different place, different era.

I was so taken by it that I jumped a little when I saw a short boy at the latter end of the yard. He was crouching down by a bush of pink hydrangeas.

I was curious of what he was doing so I walked towards him, going around the fountain and standing away from him about two meters. He was smelling the flowers, it seemed.

He definitely seemed to be a cute boy. His face was a bit chubby, and his eye smile was very eye-catching. The surrounding environment complemented his aura very well. I couldn't help but stare for a little while.

Well, perhaps, I stared too long.

He noticed me, and looked up at me with a curious expression.

Me: "o-oh sorry..."

Boy: "why are you sorry?"

Me: "for staring, I guess..."

I looked down at the ground, embarassed. The boy then eyesmiled and stood up in front of me.

He's so short!

There was about a 5 inch (13 centimeter) height difference between us.

Boy: "my name is Jimin! Park Jimin! I'm 13 years old. And you?"

Me: "I'm Jeon Jungkook. I'm 11, but I'll be 12 this September"

Jimin: "I'll be 14 this October *smirks*"

He just smirked at me *-* because he's almost two years older then me. He's so much shorter though!

I patted his head a little and laughed.

Jimin: "hey!!! *smacks away my hand* I'm older! IM YOUR HYUNG! TREAT ME WITH RESPECT!"

I smiled and nodded.

I wonder who Jimin really is. He's here in the city, dressed nicely and happy. I think he would reject my presence if he found I live in the slums.... I'll keep it secret.

Jimin: "um so where are you from, Jungkook?"

Me: "I live far away."

I answered quickly, as if I were poised for Jimin to ask me that question.

Me: "how about you?"

Jimin: "nearby ??"

He laughed at his attempt to answer like me. I wanted to talk to Jimin longer and be good friends with him, but fate didn't seem to be on my side.

"JUNGKOOK?! JUNGKOOK, WHERE HAVE YOU GONE?!"

The yell had come from the location of the building that Namjoon entered. I nervously glanced at Jimin, towards the building, then back to Jimin.

Me: "I need to leave now Jimin. Sorry, I wish we had more time to talk"

Jimin: "it's alright *smiles* I'll see you later then, Jungkook. I come to this area often"

I smiled and nodded then quickly rushed to where Namjoon called for me.

Me: "*out of breath* sorry-- Namjoon-- I'm here now"

I looked up to see his dark, ominous expression. It scared me a little. What went down in that building that made him so upset? Or was it because I disappeared?"

Namjoon: "we're leaving"

He and his men walked back the way we came. I rushed to catch up, but I took a glance at the building.

I caught a glimpse of a few shattered windows. They weren't always red stained glass, were they?

— months later, September 1st —

A lot happened in the last few months. I developed strong feelings for HaEun, the girl who works at the bakery. As an eleven year old boy, people may think it as a small crush, but I think it's much more then that.
I met with Jimin whenever I had time and we became close friends. I told him I live in the slums and he was totally fine with it! :D Since he insisted, I took him to the bakery which resulted in HaEun, he and I to become a close group of friends.
A dark, mysterious cloud hid who Namjoon really was. He continuously went to different places with his purpose being unknown.

Anyway, back to the present.

It's my birthday today!! I'm 12 years old now!

Mr. Changmin told me I didn't need to come into work until later today, so I decided to sleep in, then to give Namjoon a surprise visit.

When I had almost reached the base, at a point that was nearby but out of the door guard's sight, I heard muffled yelling. It was coming from somewhere close to base, but by the right side of building. I figured I should go see what's happening, in case someone needed help.

Along the right side of the building was a small alleyway. I looked down the alleyway, while hiding behide a neighboring house.

There was someone punching someone else in the stomach who was pushed yo against the base wall. The attacker's back was turned towards me, so couldn't tell who it was. The one who was being attacked was a young adult male, whose mouth was covered by the attacker's hand, and stomach being punched by the other hand.

Attacker: "tell me! Tell me everything! If you tell me, I'll spare you from anymore beatings, and let you live. If you don't, I'll beat the answers out of you"

The voice sounded familiar...

Tears flowed from the victim's eyes, and he shook his head.

The attacker got angry, and punch the victim in the face with his right hand. This meant the attackers body and face turned towards me.

It must be mistake..... what is.... Namjoon doing?!

I felt bad, but I had to get out of there. Stupidly enough, I ran right into the alleyway, turned left, and got out of the alleyway.

Namjoon: "HEY!! Who was that, get back here!!"

I didn't turn back. I was shocked that Namjoon could be so violent. What has he been doing all this time? Who even is he?!

Instinctively, I ran to the bakery. It felt like hours before I finally got to the door of the bakery and rushed in, supporting my upper body on my knees as I caught my breath.

"SURPRISE!!!!!!"

I was caught off guard and fell back on my butt. I looked up and saw HaEun, Jimin, and Mr. Changmin. Jimin was holding a pretty cake with candles on it, and HaEun bent down and put a party hat on my head.

I got off the floor, with Mr. Changmin's assistance.

Jimin: "Happy Birthday, Jungkook!"

Me: "what is all this?"

HaEun: "Mr. Chang asked you to come in later so we could set all of this up! It's a surprise party for your 12th birthday!"

Although I was still in shock from seeing Namjoon, I managed to smile breathelessly.

Me: "th-thank you guys, s-so much *breathing heavily*"

HaEun: "what's wrong? Why were so rushed when you got here?"

Me: "I'll tell you later..."

Mr. Chang: "well what are we waiting for? Let's eat some cake!"

Jimin: "yeeeaaa!!!"

After we ate cake, Mr. Changmin started to clean up.

Jimin and HaEun were talking and happily laughing.

I love you guys. We're gonna stay together as friends forever, I just know it. I especially always want to be with HaEun forever T//^//T

Me: "hey, Jimin? HaEun?"

Jimin/HaEun: "yea?"

Me: "I need to talk to you guys. Let's go outside really quick"

We got outside, we stood in front of the door, so Mr. Changmin knew we hadn't run off.

Me: "I saw something earlier... I still can't believe it.."

I didn't realize it, but my forehead had started to sweat a lot.
HaEun furrowed her eyebrows, and put her hand on my forehead, which caused me to blush and look down.

HaEun: "are you alright?? You seem anxious.."

Me: "well, before I got here I thought I would go see Namjoon.... and I did, but..."

Jimin: "but??"

Me: "h-he was b-b-beating someone up... he kept asking f-for the guy to t-tell him something.."

HaEun: "Jungkook, calm down. M-maybe it was a misunderstanding. I'm sure he had his reasons.."

Jimin: "*glaring, looking down* well I'm certain they weren't good reasons. Jungkook, I don't think you should talk to him ever again, understand?"

Me: "but what if he finds out I saw him?"

Jimin: "he won't and even if he did, what would do about it?"

HaEun: "exactly! I'm sure he sees you as a friend, so he wouldn't do anything"

Me: "I guess you guys are right. *sigh* Thanks"

HaEun unexpectedly gave me hug, which caused me to blush a lot.

Me: "H-H-HaEun?"

She let go, smiled up at me, then walked back into the bakery. Jimin and I followed her.

Little did either of us know that the key person of our conversation had overheard everything we said...

*time skip*

Mine and HaEun's usual work shift was over now. Jimin stayed and kept us company while we worked, which Mr. Changmin didn't mind.

HaEun: "we're off now, Mr. Changmin!"

Mr. Chang: "ok guys, you take care!"

Mr. Changmin gave HaEun a hug then went back behind the counter. See, HaEun's father died a long time ago, so Mr. Changmin became her father figure.

We left the bakery and stopped a little ways outside.

Jimin: "so, should we do something, or were guys just gonna go home?"

Me: "wanna go to that park?"

HaEun: "oh the one where you met Jimin? I've been dying to go there ever sine you told me about the pretty flowers!"

Jimin: "didn't you say your mom likes flowers, HaEun?"

HaEun: "yea! *smiles brightly* I would love to take some to her. I'm sure she would be very happy"

Me: "great, let's go then!"

When we got close to the courtyard, we all raced there. I came in first place, of course, mwahaha. Jimin came in second, and HaEun fell in last place. We all caught our breath, while sitting at the edge of the fountain.

HaEun looked and saw a cluster of some very pretty white flowers. They were lilies. I didn't like lilies too much. They reminded me of death, and the sadness I felt when my mom died. Lilies were the flowers that were thrown into her grave on the day of her funeral.

I shook my head.

No! HaEun really loves lilies! From now on, I'll associate lilies with HaEun, not death...

While HaEun picked a few of the many lilies, Jimin and I pretended to fight with "swords" on the opposite side of the courtyard. We used sticks as our swords.

Amidst the fun Jimin and I were having, we heard someone call my name.

We both stopped playing, and looked in the direction of the voice.

Me: "oh, h-hi Namjoon. W-what's up?"

Namjoon: "well it was fancy meeting you here. I actually had something to tell you. You see, I was taking of some business by base earlier today, and someone witnessed what they shouldn't have. I really just don't know who saw, and was wondering if you knew something about it"

Oh no... should I tell him it was me, but I won't tell anyone about it? Or should I lie and pretend not to know anything?

Me: "how would I know anything about it? *laughs nervously*"

Namjoon started to glare at me.

Namjoon: "I did hope you would tell me the truth, Jungkook. Enough games then. I know you saw. I also know you told your friends"

Me: "s-so? What are you gonna do about it then? I thought we were friends. You wouldn't hurt me, would you?"

Namjoon: "*smirks* you're right, Jungkook"

I internally sighed with relief. But I got ahead of myself.

Namjoon: "I wouldn't hurt you, but anyone else here? I'm not so sure"

I looked behind me. Jimin was still there, thank goodness.

Hold on..

Me: "HaEun!"

I ran around the courtyard and saw HaEun being held back by someone who worked Namjoon. Her hands were held back and her mouth was covered. She was crying.

Namjoon walked around the other side and stood beside his worker.

Namjoon: "you have two options, Jungkook. I'll forget everything you saw, if you work for me. If you choose not to, well your friend here won't be so fortunate"

Me: "what kind of work?"

Namjoon: "well *smirks* you know what you saw. Work will be something like that, I suppose"

My eyes opened wide in shock.

I can't do something like that... but if it's to save HaEun.. I don't know. I need to find a way to get HaEun back!

Namjoon's playful smirk turned to a serious glare.

Namjoon: "time's up"

I looked up, terrified. I didn't have time to think. Namjoon grabbed HaEun by her hair, pulling a knife to her throat.

I couldn't reach them. I was too slow.

Blood shot into my face, onto the ground, and over the white lilies that HaEun picked for her mother.

Her small body fell to the ground. I fell down on my knees, my face wet with blood, sweat, and tears. I could only sit there in shock, as I held her lifeless form in my arms. I couldn't stop Namjoon from carelessly walking away. I couldn't look Jimin in the eyes when he tried to shake me back to reality.

She's dead...

My eyes turned to look at the blood-tainted lilies.

They still... remind me of death...

A/N wahhhhhhh it's over ;-; I almost made myself cry this chapter, but that's the end of the flashback aswell!! This chapter was soooooo long, I know. I wanted to wrap up the flashback this chapter so I could go back to the present.

I did ask ppl if they wanted me to continue writing in first person when writing for the present or to go back and write in second person. I got no answers so I will write in Y/N's perspective in FIRST PERSON. (Using the pronouns 'I' and 'we' instead of 'you')

Thanks for reading and if you enjoyed, please stay updated!
