Jungkook focus

Earth lied before their eyes peacefully, and no enemy ship was visible.

"Shit," the captain hissed and kicked his chair. "Eos is dead."

Jungkook felt Jimin grabbing his arm and slightly hiding behind him. He could relate. The brunette looked like he wanted to pull his hair out or demolish the bridge. Or simply both.

"FUCK!" the man shouted, and it looked like he was close to ripping the upholstery of his chair by how hard his fingers dug into the leather. But to everyone's surprise Hoseok broke down on his seat instead, and a painfilled growl forced its way through his teeth. "We lost another fucking planet! And we'll lose much more because we headed into the wrong direction."

Jungkook felt his heart hurting at the sight of the breaking-down captain. The man was one of the strongest persons he knew, and seeing him breaking down made something inside of him shatter to pieces. They had seen so many ugly things on the battlefields they had been on, and never had Hoseok shown weakness, and yet it only took one wrong decision to make the stoic straight back bend towards the floor. Thoughts were so much more torturous than cuts and bullet wounds, Jungkook realized once more.

But it was not just the brunette. From the corner of his eye he could see the doc sliding down the wall with wet eyes, and Taehyung just stared out of the window with an empty gaze. They were falling apart. The only one seemingly unaffected was Yoongi, who switched between windows on his screen in a speed that made it impossible to follow the motion.

"Captain," the white-haired said calmly. Of course. The man was immune against emotions. How could he have forgotten? The death of Eos meant nothing to him. Feeling the settling heaviness in his stomach, Jungkook became envious of the Switcher.

"Captain!" the white-haired said again, louder. "I get a strange signal from the gravitation waves detectors. It's very weak but getting stronger, and it's definitely not a glitch."

Hoseok's head snapped up. "From where?" he asked hoarse.

"From behind us," Yoongi answered and looked up from his screens. Jungkook furrowed his brows. This could not be the enemy. No space ship was big enough to cause the gravitation waves scanners to report a signal. It had to be a glitch.

"Turn us around," the captain instructed, ignoring the impossibility of this being the ship they were waiting for, and the pale pilot obeyed. Earth vanished out of sight and they looked into dark space again.

"How far?" the brunette asked tense.

"Can't say. Just coming closer."

The crew slowly seemed to recover from the first shock, and the tension began to ripple the air on the bridge again. Taehyung suddenly was attentive instead of apathetic, placing his hands on the control panels, and Jimin had come out from behind him to look out of the window as well and had intertwined their fingers.

"Still coming closer," Yoongi said quietly. "Shit, this must be massive."

"And fucking fast," Taehyung added.

And then it appeared. At first Jungkook did not know what he saw. It looked like an infinite wall of black slate that suddenly popped up in front of them. Some parts that were illuminated by the sun glistened like polished steal, and innumerable pipes littered the surface. This did not look like a space ship. Who would construct a space ship in this way? It looked like a ragbag of polished scrap metal that had been painted black in some parts. It looked sick. Infectious. Terrifying.

"Where does this end?" Taehyung asked with shaking voice.

"Get us a further away to take a look," Yoongi instructed like this situation was something he handed on a daily basis. Their captain seemed incapable of speaking. And while Taehyung moved them backwards the Switcher frantically did something on his screens.

Slowly, the whole structure became visible, and they all stared in horror. The black monster looked like a thick thorn and was of an indescribable size. The BT21 had the size of a small bug compared to a grown-up blue whale. And their ship was a fucking battle ship! The third largest type after 'Queens', the biggest battle ships of the USS, and 'Dreadnoughts', the second biggest and best armed ships. And their Queens would still just look like a goldfish next to a blue whale!

"We're so done," Jin whispered from the back. Sadly, Jungkook had to agree.

But the captain seemed to think differently. "Taehyung! Help Yoongi bombarding the monster with messages. We have to get through to them," Hoseok instructed, suddenly back in shape. "Have you sent the message to Earth?" he asked towards the white-haired.

"Yes," was the clipped answer.

"Good. I want a signal on every frequency. Hit them with my static. Bang! Help the pilots," the brunette almost shouted.

Jungkook saw the static picture of their captain, that was sent with every request for contact, glitching over the screens of the flight units. And for minutes they just watched and pleaded silently that the enemy was not yet ready for an attack while the pilots worked their fingers in a speed that made them blur. Jimin's nails duck into his underarm painfully, but all he could look at was the terrifying space ship in front of them. And after processing the disgust, he began to understand how it was built and why it was built this way.

The thick end must hold high-energy lasers of an enormous size that where running towards one point slightly behind the tip, giving the ship its unusual form of a circular cone. And instead of building a complicated cooling system for the lasers they let the fluid Helium run through the pipes on the surface of the ship what cooled the liquid to space temperature of barely above absolute zero*, and then it was pumped back inside to cool the surface of the laser capsules. It was clever and efficient and just the same way their anti-matter traps and circular accelerators were cooled, though the black monster lacked a proper skin like their BT21. But he would have constructed the monster without a surface, too; this thing must already be heavy enough. Most likely this was the reason they had caught up with their enemy. Accelerating and decelerating such an enormous mass took long. But mostly he wondered what crystal was heat-resistant enough to bundle the enormous energy of at least some hundred megajoule. He never heard of any material this resistant.

"We're answered!" Yoongi shouted and opened the channel with a video feed on the window.

All eyes turned towards the front in nervous anticipation.

"Hoseokie?" a warm pleasant female voice asked softly, and in the next second the feed became stable and showed them a cute woman with long chestnut hair and ebony eyes and a face with a long, small nose that resembled Hoseok's.

"Captain, why does she look like you?" Taehyung asked quietly.

But the brunette just stared at the video with wide eyes. "Jiwoo," he whispered.

*flashback Hoseok*

The white hallways he knew like his pockets blinked in the shrill crimson red of the alarm lights, but apart from some smocks no-one was crossing their path when they ran down the long tunnels. Hoseok was old enough to understand that he needed to hold tightly onto his dad's hand and follow him quietly though he would rather like to play with his friend right now. His mother followed them with his big sister, Jiwoo, who had tears running down her face. Hoseok never had understood why girls cried that much, but some feeling told him that Jiwoo had a reason for crying and he should not mock her about it.

"Left!" his mother shouted from behind when they reached the next crossing, and his father tugged hard on his arm making him feel weightless for a moment. Albeit he was tall for a seven-year-old, his dad could lift him without any problem. He would become as strong as his old man one day, he had promised it to Hyungwon. One day he would be strong enough to stop Wonho from teasing his best friend.

They were reaching a part of the complex he had not been allowed in, and curiously he let his eyes wander over the doors. It was not much different from the part where he had lived in with his family, the doors just had weird warning signs and those small knobs one needed a special key for to open them. His mom had called it the secret lab where they developed cool new things like bubblegum you could make giant bubbles with. But his sister had said that was nonsense, and that mom and dad worked on new technologies for the government. Hoseok had found both stories cool.

His father pressed the card he always wore around his neck against a door lock and leaned against the heavy steal.

"Hobi!" he heard Hyungwon when they entered the giant room and turned towards the well-known voice. A big-eyed Wonho was holding onto his best friend's arm and looked not at all like the smug idiot he normally was. And behind the two stood their parents discussing something in hushed voices.

"Hyungwonnie!" he called back and waved with his free hand, but his dad was pulling him farther into the lab. "Later!"

When they reached one of the many weird capsules that stood inside the room, his dad opened the small door and lifted him up to place him into the plain white box that was shaped like a bonbon. It had a small soft seat and a window, but nothing else.

"Listen, Hoseokie," the serious face of his old man said. "Promise me to be a good boy and always be good to people around you. We might not see each other for a long time, but your mom and I will always be with you." His dad placed a big hand on his shoulder and smiled softly.

"Where are you going?" he asked his dad curiously.

"Somewhere you can't follow me, yet," his dad answered and lifted him into the seat to close the seatbelts over him. "Remember. Promise me to never hurt and always protect the people around you."

"Promise," Hoseok replied and nodded firmly.

"Hoseokie!" he heard his sister's voice crying out for him, but the door closed already, and the capsule began to move backwards on some tracks he could see through the small window. He could also see how his dad lifted up his older sister to seat her in another of those capsules, but Jisoo did not seem to like it. He remembered the words of his mom and shook his head while rolling his eyes. Girls at the age of eleven are simply complicated, his mother always said when he asked her why his sis was behaving so weird.

Something hissed quietly and distracted him from the view out of the window. When he looked above he saw white mist wavering down to him and tickle his skin with its coldness. Then the capsule buckled for a second and came to a halt.

The last thing he remembered was the feeling as if an elephant sat on his chest and the beautiful contrast of black and effulgent blue that turned red.

Then he lost consciousness.

*end flashback*

"Hoseok, I thought you were dead," the girl in the feed whispered behind the hand that covered her wet cheeks.

"Jiwoo, how..."

Jungkook could feel the same realization he saw on the other crewmembers' faces. This was their captain's sister, and she was the one who had destroyed a planet. She was the enemy. The realization shocked Jungkook just as much as their captain. How could Hoseok possibly fight against his own family?

Namjoon stepped closer to the brunette and held out his smart panel where he had written something down in a sloppy handwriting. Jungkook tried to read the note.

She's our way in.

Of course. This was their key to get on board of the black monster and to block the attack long enough for the Taegi-team's malware to take action. They had been given a shitty hand, but like magic it had transformed into a royal flush. They were in again. That was if the siblings kept their cool.

"Jiwoo, can we talk?" Hoseok asked with jittery voice, obviously trying hard to stay in captain-mode.

"What's there to talk, brother? They destroyed our planet. They killed our parents and friends. They deserve the same destiny," the woman said angrily between suppressed sobs.

"No, Woo. The ones responsible for the death of our planet have been punished. There is no reason to kill millions of innocent people for personal vendetta," the captain said calmly.

The brunette's sister looked like she was fighting with herself.

"Forget about them," a male voice in the background said.

"He's my brother," she spat at someone out of the view of the camera.

"He's a USS dog," the male voice growled back. Everyone tensed at the remark. What an asshole, Jungkook thought.

"Shut up!" Jiwoo hissed. For some reason than made her a little more sympathetic.

"Earth is my home, Woo," Hoseok interfered in the quarrel, "I can't watch this home dying too."

His sister chewed on her bottom lip, and the crew of the BT21 held their breaths. Jungkook could feel Jimin vibrating from the tension, so he freed his arm out of the steel grip and pressed his lover to his chest to stop the tremble. If Jiwoo decided to ignore them, they truly were done. Just like Jin had said some minutes ago.

"Let me meet him," she finally said towards the unknown man. An annoyed sigh could be heard. "You need me to enable the weapon, so grand me that wish. We can still end this planet whenever we like to."

The man hummed defeated and Jiwoo smiled satisfied and wiped away the glistening tracks on her face. "You can come over, little brother."

"I'll need to bring my commander for the protocol and a pilot to fly the transporter," Hoseok said, back with a steady voice and straight military posture. Jungkook adored the man for being back on track so fast and taking this so well. After all, he had not seen his sister for almost two decades, had even thought she was dead. This must be a mind-blowing shock for both of them.

"Of course," the woman said and nodded briefly. "We'll tag the entrance with a signal mark."

Hoseok nodded. "Later, big sis," he said and waved before the connection was cut.

"We're the luckiest bastards in the history of space war!" Taehyung busted out and laughed hysterically. "Imagine the line in the history books: The enemy turned out to be a considered-dead sibling of the captain of the infamous BT21, so they got on board and-"

"Listen!" Hoseok shut the pilot up. "We'll all go. Taehyung will fly us over, but the moment we hit enemy ground Jin will pose as the pilot. Jimin, Kook, Tae and Yoongi will hide in the flooring of the transporter and sneak out the moment the ship is unguarded. I want you, Kook-" He pointed at him. "-to guard Jimin through the ship to follow us. I want a Charmer as backup in case something goes wrong. Tae and Yoongi will hack the system at the first place that grands access to the system. Understood?"

Jungkook let his gaze wander over the crew's faces and noticed the displeased look of the V, but still the pilot joined the unison 'Yes, Sir!' that sounded over the bridge, and everyone followed Hoseok to the elevator down to the hangar.

The sickening nervousness was gone. There was only adrenaline and vibrating muscles that waited to push them to new levels. A well-known feeling for Jungkook. Well-known and highly appreciated. This was what he knew, what he loved, and he could not suppress the smug smile that sneaked onto his lips.

Fuck being injured, fuck being a veteran. They were in. The impossible part was over. Now it was a matter of muscles and brain whether they would succeed, or not.

*Absolute zero is -273.15°C. It's 0 Kelvin (K). Absolute zero is unreachable because it's the temperature where nothing moves anymore. Like absolutely nothing. Not just no big objects, but objects like electrons in an atom. That's impossible. Just ask Google or YouTube for superconductivity and it will swamp you with cool stuff about low temperatures.
