~This is where all of the(*cough* rhetorical*cough*) questions should be asked. No more through PM, or in any other chapter! I will delete or ignore your message (depends on my mood but I wouldn't risk it)! ~
⚠️Oh, warning! ⚠️ the more you ask me redundant questions you could have answered on your own or with something called common sense, the more you lose your goodwill from me! 😊
Side note: You'll know your question has been answered when I reply to your comment with "Answered."
1) Why did you trademark the title "Brutally Honest Reviews", M? You didn't create that phrase, so get over yourself! I'm aware, but I'm also inherently a troll, and it was too good for me to pass up. Originally, there were only two known review books on here (at least to my knowledge) that were "mean/honest" in their tone when I conjured this crap book, but none of them had used the phrase as their title (nor any other reviewers) so I copped it and others have been following suit in the last year...for some reason, so as a cheeky move I decided to slap it on there.
2) How much time do you usually give before you close a special (even if there's still an open slot)? Enough time; also, there's a chapter that displays the schedule. For the Halloween Special (when it existed) its nine days, but it was closed before the actual date because the slots were all taken. So, if the slots are taken before the actual Special ends, then I will close it once the slots are taken.
3) Where can I find the Important Announcement chapter? It's now the first chapter in the book. However, it's now titled "The Specials Schedule"!
4) Am I suppose to request on the original form or on the form special going on? What if the special makes me uncomfortable can you simply not make my review in that themed? For the first question, you're suppose to have read the rules to know this. You use the forms that are labeled as "[OPEN]" and that's it. Requesting on a form that is labeled as "[INACTIVE]" will get you immediately blacklisted from this book. Read everything, peeps. For the second question, this no longer applies since I'm updating my answers. There are only two specials and only two times this book will be open for request: Summer and Winter. Specials are now seasonal-themed, AND forms will be only up until the next special opens up to avoid these issues (this doesn't meant that requests will be accepted, the form will just be up for reference and convenience). Yay!
5) Are you still open? Well, depends on when this is being asked. Go check the Important Announcement--now titled "The Specials Schedule"--chapter for the schedule.
6) Do you decline any requests? Yes and no. If you follow all of the rules and read them well, then the likeliness of me accepting it is pretty great. If you don't, then don't be surprised for getting a penalty. To what degree? It is based on your offense. I do not deny any request based on their book's genre, or summary or title, or anything like that. I don't read any of that until I actually start the review on your book. I try to be unbiased towards all of the genres I'm presented with, even though I make jokes towards some of them, it won't stop me from judging it accordingly. The early reviews are giant fart jokes that I don't even know how this book caught on with the quality of some of them. Lord.
7) What happens if the time frame of a requesting date goes by, but the slots for a section are still available? Will you extend the date? No. A deadline is a deadline. The form will just be labeled as "Inactive". I answered this already, didn't I?
8) Are the scheduled dates for 2016-17? Yes, but they are also for forever.... or at least until I get sick of writing reviews/get too busy lol. Maybe if my depression kicks into overdrive too haha. UPDATE: If you see dates up in w/e year you are currently reading this in, it is for that year. I will change the dates each year.
9) When will you start the Halloween Reviews? It had been almost two months, you lazy roach! I added that last part, but it is all the same. Anyway, soon. I'm shit at planning time to do stuff. But hopefully I get them done before the winter special comes around. I do this with my homework as well. Sorry, I've been procrastinating and I get distracted far too easily. Tv shows and movies are great distractions at the moment. I was supposed to get into a feel of posting two reviews each Sunday. One from the old queue and the Halloween one, but I'm trash. It only lasted a week. I'm like an unreliable partner. Dear god. For real this time I'm going to get on it. For real. UPDATE: The Halloween Special no longer exist. Womp womp womp.
10) By "holiday special" does it mean the period of the time you're holding these specials, or does the book have to be related to the holiday? Dear god. I honestly don't know how this is even a question. Why in the world would I review only books that have a seasonal/holiday theme? I'm pretty sure they would be a minority on this site, no? These questions are becoming rhetorical guys, and it doesn't take much to, you know, use context clues and figure it out on your own before asking poor questions. This is taking time out of my day, and it's annoying. To answer your question, no, your books don't have to do with the time period or holiday the special is taking place in. The schedule is only made to show you the specials. You know...a "special"? Like Black Friday? Think of that.
11) In the form chapter, the paragraph that says "[DO NOT REQUEST]", what do you mean by "fall in this category"? Nice, nice. That chapter is also titled "[INACTIVE]", which I have already explained. It's crazy how you guys select read. That chapter is irrelevant because it was only pertaining to requests in the month of July. Please keep scrolling to more recent chapters. *Rubs eyes*
12) What if the chapters are really long and you only read the first chapter, but it happens to be one that is slightly boring because the better plots haven't been reached yet? Do we get to choose which chapter you review?? No, you don't get to choose the chapter I read. Do you want to know why? Because I am a normal reader, and you don't ask normal readers to read select chapters. Also, the point is that I give you my first impressions, basically. The only difference here is that I happen to write pretty long, sometimes, but hopefully helpful reviews (everything is subjective) about your work. I read the first chapter, and if you still have thirty points left, I continue until you run out. It's pretty simple. This is all stated in the guidelines, so read them. The only way I'll read your entire book is if you get added to BHR'S Stars PRL or if you had only one chapter up.
13) Why are you so mean when answering questions? Because most of these questions would have been answered if people bothered to read the text. All of this is already stated in this book! I didn't just pull this out my ass (I've gotten more "strict" for a reason). The less obvious the answers to these questions are, the more my mood will begin to mellow. Work with me people!
14) Do you know anyone that excels at making book covers? Yes. SkyLabyRinth (however, they've been on hiatus for quite a bit), solidarity_ is great, verdant, elephadora (probably didn't spell that right) and Abyss-of-Crazy (A GOD) are all great too, and there's a bunch of other graphic books I follow that I'm blanking on atm, oops. I made a PRL dedicated to this, actually. Also, a great way to find good graphic makers is in the multimedia thread, just browse until you can find an available cover maker. Good luck, you'll really need it!
15) *Awkwardly laughs* Where is the Summer Special form, bitch? If you don't see a form page for it, it's most likely because I'm still in school, summer hasn't begun, or I simply haven't had the time to write it and put it up yet. Common sense is a great thing people. Please use it.
16) How do I complete...a form? I can feel the hate growing in my loins.
17) What does "FAQ" mean"? *Slowly blinks*
18) So, does "FAQ" means: "*slowly blinks*"? 😒...Yes.
19) What is the password? *Launches myself to the moon*
20) Today is December 20th which is what the first chapter says is for the winter special. But I can't find any chapter for the form...Am I just blind, or....? No, you aren't blind. If you don't see a form up and it IS the day that a special is suppose to be open, I'm most likely running behind. Patience, my child. Patience. Have lots and lots of it.
21) Do you choose the books to review on a first come, first served basis or do you choose the ones you like the sound of? No. I do not read anyone's summary or genre until I actually review them, so I never really choose regarding my own biases. Sometimes I'll give it a glance out of mild curiosity, but it doesn't affect who gets added to the queue. Plus, you only get added to my queue if your form is perfect with all of the required elements that I ask for. So even if you are the first one to submit a form, if it isn't absolutely perfect I will reject your submission and give you the according penalties that serve as clues on what you got wrong. Of course though, everyone is only limited to three penalties before they are disqualified from the current special. So accuracy and your attention is what I ask for, not how quick you can get to the starting mark. The chapters posted before the form page aren't there for decoration folks, they are instructions and a weeding tool to see who is actually reading. *Winks*
22) Is there a requirement for a minimum amount of chapters before you can submit on BHR? I went through the rules but couldn't find anything on that. This is a new one, but nope. I have accepted books with literally only one chapter. However, if the only chapter posted is a prologue and said prologue is short....expect the review to be short (for my standards lol). One chapter books need love to, I welcome them!
22) I can't find the password! !!! :( Then you haven't read the Important Guidelines. This isn't even a question, really. I can't help you if you can't help yourself. This isn't a race, relax, and go read the previous chapters. They are there for YOU.
23) Hello, yes, hi 👋🏼. Am I an OT now, or do I still count as a Newbie? I am confuse. Yes, yes you are. You are only considered a "Newbie" if you have NEVER received a review from me and/or are new to the book (aka just discovered it). Once you have received a review from me OR got accepted into one of my queues you immediately become an OT.
24) I was wondering, you have the date for the Winter special Deadline as February 20th and that is today's date. Does that mean we can request Winter Special's in advance? Yeah, bro...no. If there is no Winter Special form in sight, you can't apply. To tell you the truth, I haven't been really keeping up with this review book because I'm a jerk. Sorry about that. The book isn't open and hasn't been in months because I suck and haven't been able to bring myself to do anything writing-related that doesn't have to do with college work (which I only recently stopped half assing, but sadly, half assing in community college doesn't even fail you so my plan on self sabotaging myself hasn't been going that well anyway). So the date you're seeing still displayed, three days later after your question was asked, has been sitting there just pretending to be serious. Yeah, I know, I suck. I'm rambling a bit, so I'll cut this short: You'll know the book is officially open for the "Winter Special" when I get at least three reviews off of my queue and post them. Then, I'll upload the form so people can apply. Until then, sorry y'all! :(
