Instead of going back to her house, Kyla slept over the Cameron's house with Rafe. She had texted her parents about it, and they obviously let her stay over because they trusted her enough not to do anything stupid. Kyla just hoped that Kiara was okay, even though she knew that JJ would never hurt her on purpose. She would just have to check up on her later.
The next day after the kegger, Kyla walked outside with Tara, Rafe, Topper, and Kelce. Things were still being fixed from the hurricane, so when they walked out, they saw a boat on land near a house. "Jeez, man, this is nuts," Topper said as they walked around the boat.
"Agatha's a bitch," Rafe said with a cup in his hand. Kyla nudged him softly, not liking when people cursed for no reason.
"Damn right, she is," Kelce agreed with a laugh.
"Definitely a bitch," Tara said, agreeing with Rafe as she sent Kyla a teasing look.
"I mean, I just — I can't get it out of my head. It's just on repeat. 'Your move, broski'," Topper then said, bringing up the events of last night. Kyla sighed, not wanting to relive it.
"Bro, he had a semiautomatic pointed at your head," Kelce replied.
"That's why I'm saying. It's insane."
"Safety off!" Kelce added.
"You would have won if he didn't pull it out," Tara pointed out, shaking her head in disgust. Kyla sent her a subtle, confused look. If Topper won, wouldn't that mean he would have drowned John B? Kyla wasn't friends with the guy, but she didn't want Topper killing anyone.
"That Pogue," Topper replied in the same tone as his sister.
"They're freaking Pogues, man. You know you should get a piece," Rafe said and Kyla furrowed her brows at him.
"What do you mean?" Topper asked
"You gotta fight fire with fire and defend the homestead. Right?" Rafe told him.
"Yeah," Topper agreed.
"It's better than being caught without one," Kelce said, hitting Topper's chest softly.
"Yeah, you can't let those dirty Pogues treat you like shit," Tara said, shaking her head.
Kyla glanced between all of them, not sure if fighting back was a good idea. "Look, guys—"
"Hey. Listen, guys," Topper cut her off. "I-I'm gonna get him back, all right? I'm making it a little project of mine," Topper assured them, making Kelce laugh.
"Yeah, you should, man," Rafe said.
"I don't think that's a good idea, guys," Kyla spoke up fully.
"Oh, come on, Ky. We can't let them walk all over us without them getting away with it. I know Kiara is your sister and everything, but—"
"This isn't about my sister," Kyla cut Tara off, getting a bit defensive. She just didn't want anyone getting hurt.
"Yo, that's Sarah," Kelce pointed out, making everyone look over to see Sarah talking to a little girl before she started to step on piece of wood with wires wrapped around it to get over to the crashed boat. Tara glared at Kyla for a second, before she followed everyone's gazes, trying to keep her cool.
"What is she doing?" Topper asked quietly.
"Watch her fall and make a big drama out of it," Rafe said monotonously as he watched his sister.
"Rafe," Kyla said, giving him a look. She knew that he wasn't too fond of his sister — hell, she wasn't either! But the last thing she wanted to do was see her sister hurt, but Rafe didn't seem to feel the same way about Sarah.
"Hey, there's 14,000 volts in those wires!" some lady yelled out to her from the porch of her house.
Sarah then took a step forward and yelped, almost falling over before she caught herself. Kyla stood up a little straighter, getting nervous for Sarah as she gripped Rafe's free hand. Tara noticed the action and rolled her eyes, crossing her arms as she looked back over at Sarah.
"Hey, Sarah, be careful!" Topper yelled out to his girlfriend.
"Sarah! Get down now!" Rose, Rafe and Sarah's step mother, shouted as she walked outside.
"Rose, calm down! I'm an athlete. I got this," Sarah assured her as she kept on walking towards the boat.
"You're gonna get electrocuted! Get down!" Rose continued yelling.
"She just wants attention," Rafe commented, unimpressed.
"Rafe, seriously?" Kyla questioned, looking up at him.
"You know I'm right. You just don't want to admit it because she's your best friend," he replied before he took a sip of his drink. Kyla sighed and looked back over at Sarah, who was now shimmying her shoulders at Rose.
"He's got a point," Tara muttered under her breath, quiet enough so none of them could hear.
"Sarah, that's not funny!" Topper called out.
"When I tell your dad about this, Sarah..." Rose warned angrily.
"Little fried Sarah," Rafe said, letting go of Kyla's hand to take his sunglasses off. Kyla scoffed at him, but she was too nervous about Sarah to continue scolding him.
"Rafe, your sister's crazy, man," Kelce said as they continued to watch her climb into the boat.
She then made it inside and looked over her shoulder at the little girl. "I see her!" Sarah told her, making the girl giggle.
"Sarah! I swear to God, when I tell your dad—" Rose was cut off by Sarah screaming and falling over in the boat, making Topper and Kyla rush forward towards her in fear.
"Sarah! Sarah!" Topper called out as he ran forward with Kyla on his tail. Tara slowly followed behind them next to Rafe, knowing that Sarah was just pranking them. And she also wanted an excuse to stand next to Rafe.
Sarah then moved her head and lifted up the unattached wire, waving it around as she began to laugh. Kyla let out a breath she didn't know she was holding as Tara, Kelce, and Sarah started to laugh. "It's disconnected!" Sarah said in amusement.
"She got you," Kelce teased Topper, hitting his shoulder.
"You both are so gullible. Right, Rafe?" Tara said, sending Rafe a look.
"I'm used to it by now," he admitted, sending Kyla a wink that only made her groan in frustration. Tara would have also groaned in frustration as well because of the wink Rafe sent Kyla if she were the only one there.
"Absolute sucker!" Sarah continued. "Topper, you should see your face."
"Yeah. Okay, yeah, I'm sorry that I care. All right, guilty," Topper replied, holding his hands up in defense.
"Congrats, pussy, you're officially her bitch," Rafe said to Topper, making Kelce laugh even more.
"Oh, come on, that wasn't obvious already?" Tara questioned, making Topper glare at her.
"Officially, did you know that? You're officially her bitch, all right?" Rafe continued and Kyla just shoved him playfully, which made him start to chase after her in a light-hearted manner, causing everyone to laugh apart from Tara.

After checking her own house to see if Kiara was there to ask her about last night — spoiler alert! she wasn't — she tried going to John B's house, at the Château, since that was there the Pogues hung out sometimes. Kyla only knew this since she had to be the one to drive Kiara there and back when Kiara didn't have her license. Kyla was opposed to it, but she still did it so she didn't have to hear Kiara's wrath.
She parked her car in front of the house and walked up to it, noticing that the door was open slightly. She pushed it fully open, carefully shutting it behind her before she wandered into the house to try to see if anyone was there. "Okay, well, what's Redfield?" she heard her sister's voice ask.
"Besides the most common name in the country," Pope Heyward answered as Kyla walked over towards the room they were in.
"Oh, maybe — maybe it's a clue. Right? Maybe it's a clue to where he's hiding," John B Routledge said and Kyla furrowed her brows, stopping right next to the doorway so she couldn't be seen by any of them. A clue to where who's hiding? she thought in confusion. He can't be talking about his dead father, right?
"Okay..." she heard JJ Maybank trail off softly.
"A clue? Come on, that's—" Pope stopped himself for some reason, clearing his throat. "But if it is a clue, maybe it's an anagram?"
"Yes. Perfect. Anagram. You need paper," John B said quickly. Kyla heard the rustling of paper being placed down on a table inside even though she couldn't see where since she didn't want to risk being caught by any one of them. She didn't know what she was eavesdropping on, but it seemed pretty important.
A rooster then crowed in the coop next to the house. "How can you concentrate with that thing constantly crowing at you?" Pope questioned.
"JJ loves the rooster," John B told him.
"I love the rooster," Kiara added. Pope, JJ, and Kiara then started off listing words that could possibly be inside the anagram, so Kyla took a chance and peered inside the room.
She noticed that it was filled with a bunch of papers and photos, along with other knickknacks that seemed sort of important. "Kyla?!" Kiara gasped in shock, making Kyla look over at her with her eyes wide. "What the hell are doing?" she questioned, stepping forward towards her as the two boys glanced at each other nervously. John B seemed too engrossed in something to even look over his shoulder.
"I was trying to find you to make sure you were okay," Kyla explained calmly, stepping into the room.
"Why wouldn't I be okay?" Kiara asked with a high voice, placing her hands on her hips.
"Oh, I don't know, maybe because someone," Kyla said, looking over at JJ accusingly, "had a gun last night."
"Oops," JJ muttered, looking away guiltily.
"Oh, come on. It's not that big of deal," Kiara argued, even though she knew it was.
"Seriously, Kiara? A gun isn't a big deal?" Kyla questioned, taking another step forward.
"Guys," John B said, but everyone ignored him.
"Well, it didn't hurt anyone!" Kiara exclaimed.
"Yeah, well it could ha—"
"Guys! Somebody's here," John B cut Kyla off, making them all look towards the window to see two burly looking guys walk out of their car.
"Guys, guys, is that them?" Kiara questioned worriedly, making Kyla furrow her brows.
"No," JJ whispered in disbelief.
"Is that them?" Kiara asked again, her voice growing higher.
"This is suboptimal," Pope muttered under his breath.
"Who's 'them'?" Kyla questioned no one in particular, getting worried from everyone else being worried.
"John B, I told you, man. Why does it always—"
"JJ! Hey, look at me," John B whisper-shouted as he pushed JJ against the wall, placing a finger up to the blonde's lips to shut him up. "Where's the gun?" he asked.
"Kiara," Kyla said through clenched teeth, wanting to know what was going on right then. Kiara shushed her, making Kyla lick her lips nervously.
"Gun? I, uh, I can't—"
"Now you don't have the gun, the one time we need the gun?" Kiara questioned, fear etched on her face as she brought her hands up to her face.
"Why do we need the gun?" Kyla whisper-shouted since she still hadn't gotten an answer.
"It was in my backpack—"
"Backpack—"
"And then I—"
"On the porch," John B realized for JJ.
"It's on the porch," JJ whispered. JJ quickly pushed off against the wall and made his way outside to room to go get his backpack with the gun.
"Kiara, you better explain to me what the hell is going on right—"
"JOHN ROUTLEDGE!" one of the men bellowed from outside, making Kyla gasp and back up against the table in fright.
"Guys," Kiara cried quietly as JJ ran back into the room, shutting the door carefully behind him.
"Come on out now! Fuck—"
"Where's the gun?" John B whispered to JJ.
"They're on the front porch, guys," JJ told them and Kyla swallowed hard. Since she had no idea what the hell was going on, she was probably the most freaked out amongst them all.
"Routledge!" the man yelled as Kyla heard some things knock over in the other room. "Where you at, boy?!"
"We gotta leave!" Kyla whispered-shouted, not wanting to stay here any longer even though she had no idea what was going on.
"Guys, window. Window," Kiara directed and they all rushed over to the window. The boys tried to get it open, but it wouldn't even budge. "What's — what's happening? Why is it taking so long?" Kiara questioned as Kyla ran a hand through her hair, trying to stop her heavy breathing as she heard the men get closer.
"It's painted shut, okay?" JJ told her, trying once again to get it open with Pope.
Kiara quickly went over to one of the drawers as the men continued to ransack the place. She then pulled out one of those card openers. "Okay, guys. Guys. Here, I got it," she said as she went over to the window, and started to try to cut the paint away so that they could open the window.
"Come on, come on, come on," JJ urged from next to Kyla, who was trying to focus on her breathing at the moment. She hadn't gotten a panic attack in such a long time, but now she was feeling lightheaded, dizzy, and she felt like her mouth had suddenly gone dry.
"I'm going as fast as I can," Kiara replied quietly as she continued to try to break away the paint.
JJ then looked over at Kyla, noticing her extreme discomfort. "Hey, hey, you okay?" he quickly asked and Kyla nodded rapidly before John B and Pope shushed them as they leaned against the door, hearing the man walk closer to the room.
The man then tried to open the door, but it was obviously locked. "You better not be in there!" he yelled, and Kyla placed a hand over her mouth, backing up once again. The man then tried kicking down the door, so Pope and John B rushed away from the door and went towards the window where Kiara almost had it open.
"There," Kiara quickly said as she moved out of the way so that JJ could pull it open. One of the wooden pieces fell down from the door just as JJ pulled the window open. Kiara went through it first, followed by a now adrenaline filled Kyla. The boys then followed just as a gun shot was heard in the house, making Kyla gasp quietly.
"What now?" Pope asked as they looked around. John B then pointed to the chicken coop since they wouldn't be able to run away from the house that fast.
They all ran over to it, opening the door and climbing inside to hide from the two men. Once they all went inside, Kyla took a deep breath, calming down for the time being. "Will someone please explain to me what is happening?" she questioned quietly from next to JJ and Kiara, wiping away the tears that had unknowingly fell.
"It has something to do with John B's dad's compass," Pope told her.
"Pope!" Kiara whisper-shouted, her glossy eyes wide in warning since she obviously didn't want her sister to know about it.
"Kiara, I have to know," Kyla argued before she nodded for Pope to continue.
"We don't know the full story, but it's obviously important because they want it and some of the other things in that room. And...he might also still be alive," he continued before the two men came out of the house carrying boxes of documents and papers. At the same exact time, the rooster in the coop started to crow loudly.
"Do something, Pope. Shut him up," JJ told him through clenched teeth.
"What do you want me to do?" Pope whispered.
"Pet it, or something, or talk to it. I don't know," Kiara told him as she continued to cry. The rooster continued to cluck, making one of the guys look over at the coop. John B quickly moved away from the opening, pressing his back against the wall.
Kyla just wished Rafe was there right now. She felt safe with him even though sometimes he could be a little scary. But that was just his personality...
The rooster then began jumping around the coop, continuing to cluck loudly. "Do something!" Pope whisper-shouted.
JJ got up on his knees and went over to the rooster, grabbing it and placing it on the ground. It still continued to crow, so JJ grabbed it hard, accidentally snapping its neck. Kyla placed a hand over her mouth, muffling a gasp as Kiara let out a quiet sob. Kyla went to go grab her hand to calm her down, but John B beat her to it. She glanced up at him, noticing that he did seem to care about her sister even though he was a Pogue.
"Ratter! What the are you doin'? Let's go!" the other guys yelled before he started the car and began to drive away from the house. Kiara finally let out her sobs since the guys were gone and Kyla released a breath she didn't know she was holding.
Ahhh I'm sorry this is pretty long again, but as you can see, Kyla really isn't used to the Pogues' problems whatsoever....
