When Kyla had arrived home that afternoon like she had told the Pogues she would have, her parents were furious. Especially her mother. She had to explain to her mom that she was just out with Sarah a lot at the Cameron house, and that they were doing a "special girl time". Anna then asked about Kiara, and Kyla told her mom that Kiara was with her and that they were reconciling their friendships.

That seemed to calm her mom down a lot, but she was still mad that they didn't tell her where they were.

But, Kyla was left off the hook — which wasn't surprising — and went to bed that night in a worried state. She couldn't believe that Ward might have killed Big John, and that he knew about the gold.

But she had never seen John B act like that before, so it had to be true. And she did know how violent Ward could become when he got mad after seeing him strangle Topper for calling his daughter a slut.

And then the next day, she spent the whole day at home covering for her sister. She kept saying that Kiara was out with Sarah and she was giving them some time to talk by themselves. She also mentioned that at the night of Midsummers, she left to go see that Kiara was okay and ended up staying up all night with her just laughing and talking.

Totally not a lie.

She then walked out to get the newspaper before a car pulled up and honked. Kyla looked up to see the window roll down, showing Rafe in the driver's seat with Tara next to them in the passenger's seat. Kyla furrowed her brows, looking over her shoulder to see that her mother hadn't come out.

She then placed the newspaper back down onto the driveway and slowly walked over to the car, her brows still creased. "What are you two doing here?" Kyla asked.

"We need to talk to you," Tara said, pretending to sound sad to make Kyla want to listen. "Hop inside."

Kyla glanced at Rafe, who kept on blinking rapidly and bouncing his leg. "Did something happen?" Kyla questioned slowly, looking back at Tara. "Because a few days ago, you pretty much made it clear that you didn't wanna talk to me."

"Multiple things did, yes," Tara confirmed. "Just get in, please. We gotta get somewhere, which is one of the things that's happening right now."

Kyla glanced back at Rafe, who nodded at her. She then sighed and pulled open the back door, getting inside the car behind Tara's seat. Rafe then started to drive off rather quickly. "What's so urgent that you need to talk to me while driving, guys?" Kyla said.

"Sarah is going to the Bahamas, for who knows how long, with her father," Tara told her and Kyla's eyes widened. Tara looked behind her, noticing Kyla's surprised state. "Apparently, it's for some top secret business thing."

"Yeah. You — you know anything about that?" Rafe asked before he sniffled.

Kyla narrowed her eyes. Did Ward get the gold? No, right? He wouldn't even know where it was unless someone had told them...or if he found the map, she thought. She then shook her head. "No, I don't really know a lot about your dad's business, Rafe," she told him, and she noticed the two glance at each other. "Look, if that's all you need to tell me, then can you just drop me off at The Wreck or something? I can call Sarah to say goodbye, it's fine."

"That's not all," Tara said, licking her lips. She then looked back over at Rafe, and he nodded slowly at her.

But before Tara could tell Kyla what she and Rafe were hiding, Kyla said, "Oh, my God! Are you seriously trying to help Rafe get back together with me? We took a break for a reason, and we are still on a break. You guys need to understand that before I make my decision. And right now... it's not looking good."

"Well, good, because Rafe and I hooked up," Tara blurted out. "Multiple times."

Kyla's mouth parted in utter and complete shock at Tara's words. She was speechless. She was confused. She was angry. She was upset. She was...she didn't even know what she was.

"What?" she said in almost the quietest voice known to mankind.

"Look, Ky, I—"

"The night you two got together, we had sex right before that. And then we had sex at Midsummers after you left and then after that, well, I think you already know what we kept doing," Tara cut Rafe off, a smug look on her face.

"Why...why would you do that to me?" she asked slowly, and quietly yet again, to the both of them. She never knew that the two people she had once trusted with her life could both be so...heartless.

"Because I—"

"Because he was bored," Tara cut the Cameron boy off for the second time. "You wouldn't have sex with him, so I did. It solved everything."

"Tara, y-you're not helping," Rafe said, his voice raspy.

"Oh, come on, as if she would forgive us for doing this anyway. Isn't that right, Ky?" Tara asked, looking back over her shoulder.

Kyla swallowed hard. "I...I don't understand. All I ever did was...try my best with you guys and I had all of your best interests at heart. This is the kind of thanks I get for that?" she questioned slowly, looking up as a few tears fell down her face since she finally processed what the blonde had said.

Tara scoffed. "If you really had our best interests at heart, you wouldn't be going off with the Pogues and betraying us," she replied in annoyance.

Kyla shook her head, getting angry. "No, that's not fair. You both betrayed me first, but I just never knew about it until right now," she said, her voice cracking. "What, if I didn't break up with Rafe, would you both just — just not have told me and got on with your lives?" she quizzed, more tears falling. "Oh, and by the way, we're broken up for real this time, Rafe."

"Kyla, I-I know you're mad, but you gotta — you gotta forgive me," Rafe pleaded, his voice shaky since it seemed like he was stressed out more than usual. "Please."

"She doesn't have to forgive you unless you want to get back together with her," Tara answered for the Carrera girl before her eyes widened. "Oh, my God, do you still like her?"

"It's kinda hard to — to get over someone you love, all right, Tara?" Rafe snapped loudly, making Tara scoff in disbelief.

"No, you never loved me, Rafe," Kyla told him, letting her tears fall without getting overly upset. It was like she was feeling all other types of emotions that she didn't know which one to fully portray. "If you did...you would have never done this to me."

"I'm — I'm sorry, okay? It's just you — you would never wanna have se—"

"Was I just not enough for you or something? Would I be enough if I did go through with it with you? Because if so, then you are a shitty person, Rafe Cameron," she cut him off, not letting him finish his sentence since she already knew what he was going to say.

Tara let out a laugh. "Oh, look at you and using those curse words. Maybe being with the Pogues was good for something at least," she pointed out mockingly as Rafe continued to drive quickly, his leg shaking anxiously.

"They were good for much more than that," Kyla told her.

"Oh, yeah? Like what?"

"Like showing me how real friends truly are," Kyla said. "How a family is," she corrected.

Tara scoffed and laughed at the same time. "Family? They're your family now? You weren't happy with you're Pogue of a sister, so you had to go out and get more? Wow, I was really wrong about you," she commented, running a hand through her blonde hair as Rafe took a turn onto the airstrip.

"Everyone was wrong about me," Kyla corrected. "I'm not some perfect Kook, who lives some perfect life. And I know that sounds like I'm a spoiled brat and I'm taking everything I have for granted, but I'm...I'm not. I'm tired of everyone thinking that I'm perfect while I'm having this conversation right now. 'Cause getting cheated on because you were too much of a prude? Yeah, definitely not perfect."

"Wow, just because one thing goes wrong in your life means it's horrible?" the blonde teased mockingly. "Get a grip, Kyla. Life is unfair," Tara replied in her normal voice before she rolled her eyes.

"You just don't understand what I'm feeling because you've never been cheated on by your first love before," Kyla said, giving Rafe an angry look even though he seemed to preoccupied with something else as he continued to drive down the strip. Kyla couldn't tell that Rafe had also started to cry once she had stopped since he was just facing forward the whole time.

"Oh, really? I was there that night when you two became official. We had just got done with our 'fun' and you came running into the house looking for Sarah since you had gotten into yet another fight with your stupid sister," Tara explained before Rafe parked the car, and then searched the glove box in the middle of the two seats for something. "Sarah wasn't home, so Rafe came down to talk to you. And since you were so vulnerable, you kissed him and admitted your feelings and he did the same." She laughed and continued, "I was right there, fighting the urge to go over and beat you down right then and there for stealing him away from me."

Rafe then quickly pulled something out of the glove box, but both girls were too preoccupied staring each other down to notice what it was. He then opened the car door and started to walk out.

"How was I supposed to know that that happened, Tara? You never even told me how you felt about him after I always would! You can't blame me!" Kyla exclaimed before she pushed open the car door to follow Rafe instinctively.

"Where the fuck are you going?" Tara questioned before she also opened the door, quickly following Kyla, who was speed walking away from the blonde. "You're just an ungrateful bitch that doesn't—"

Tara was cut off but the sound of a gunshot, making her freeze in place. Kyla was right behind Rafe, next to the plane, so she saw him pull out the gun, but she was too late to stop him. She also saw who he had shot.

Sheriff Peterkin.

Kyla placed a hand over her mouth, her drying eyes now become wet once again. "Rafe, no," John B whispered while Sarah hung off of him, sobbing quietly. Kyla hadn't even noticed that they were there until he had talked since her eyes were glued to the sheriff.

"Rafe. What did you do?" Ward, who was sitting on the ground, asked his son in shock.

Kyla watched as Sheriff Peterkin fell to the ground, frozen in shock as was Tara since she didn't know that Rafe was planning on doing this.

Rafe let out a breathless laugh. "I saved you, Dad," Rafe told him as he continued to breathe heavily. "I saved you."

I told you everything would go wrong in this chapter...I mean, Tara revealing that Rafe had cheated on Kyla and then Rafe going and shooting Sheriff Peterkin right after? Yikes....
