A Small Duel

The cool summer breeze blew through my hair as Frub and I sat on a picnic blanket under the tree in the center of town. It was almost that time of year again for the Blossom Viewing Festival.

"You know, I've never actually seen the rainbow sakuras in their rainbow state." I mentioned. During the night of the Blossom Viewing Festival, the rainbow sakuras that grow on the tree (the one we are sitting under) change to the color of the rainbow and I've heard that it's the most beautiful sight anyone could ever see.

"Well, the festival is tomorrow night so maybe we could set up here again and watch the flowers unless Natsu decides to uproot it again." Frub replied.

"Why did Natsu tear this beautiful piece of nature out of the ground?" I asked. Frub pointed over to where Natsu and Lucy were sitting across the grass.

"Lucy got sick that night so she had to stay in bed and was unable to see the flowers. However, Natsu pulled the tree from right here and sent it down the river so Lucy could see it." Frub explained.

"That sounds wonderful."

I pulled a strand of hair out of my face and tucked it behind my ear. The sun was shining, the grass was glowing, children were playing and Frub was smiling. Nothing could go wrong.

"Hey Nalu, we've got some time before we set up for tomorrow." I hear a voice call from behind me. I look to find Natsu towering above me with his scarf ied around his waist. If you know Natsu as good as anybody in the guild, then you know exactly where this is headed. I stand up to confront him.

"Are you looking for a duel?" I ask him with a challenging tone.

"That's right! Don't look too confident 'cause I'm gonna walk out of this one a winner." Natsu exclaimed with pride.

"You know," I look down at Frub who looked annoyed, "I'm in the middle of something but I could probably spare some time."

"If you're gonna go at it then take it somewhere else because we don't want the town to get destroyed!" Lucy called out from behind Natsu. We both nodded and ran off to find an open field.

********

We ran up to and open field in the northeast corner of Magnolia that held the perfect space for a battle.

"Do we really need this much space to fight?" Natsu burst out.

"You can get a little out of control sometimes you know?" I sighed as I jumped to one end of the field. As we each got into position, the battle started without a warning. Natsu was already coming at me with a fist engulfed in flames. I predicted his target and quickly dodged only seconds before he had the chance to land an attack on me. I quickly spun around but realized I didn't have enough time to dodge his next quick attack. His fist landed a hit on my cheek and I went flying to the other end of the open field. I landed on the ground with a small thud and scratched my arm on a rock.

Luckily I had enough time to get up and heal my wound. Natsu was slowly making his way over to me again but an explosion set off in front of him. As I was flying through the air after he punched me, I through several paper bombs down to act as a distraction. The smoke finally cleared and Natsu was charging at me once more. It was my turn now.

"Fairy Sparkle Bomb!" I shouted as little lights appeared around me and began to surround Natsu. Boom. The lights turned into little bombs and distracted Natsu once more. I noticed something fly out of the smoke and realized it was Natsu. He dodged?!

"Did you think that you could catch me with another explosion attack?" He asked while still in the air.

"Those were distractions not attacks, you fool." I smirked.

A magic circle appeared around Natsu's body and paralyzed him. He fell to the earth and was unable to move. I noticed him smile as he broke free of my circle. I knew it wouldn't hold on him because he could just use his fire magic to burn it off. The next step was to land a solid attack on him but for me that takes a long time and several mediocre attacks to accomplish. Just one attack would end this petty duel and I could go back to my picnic date with Frub but I wanted to drag this out to see how long Natsu can last against my distractions. Let's see if he can find the difference between distractions and real attacks. Will he fall into my trap or not.

When we got here and I jumped to the other end of the field, I had already come up with a plan to defeat Natsu. I lined the entire field with paper bombs and magical traps in hopes of Natsu running into each and everyone. But he was being light on his feet which is strange.

"You'll have to do better than that! You haven't even landed a solid hit on me yet!" Natsu shouted. He had spoken too soon. As he was running towrds me again, I used my super speed and next thing you know, I was righ in front of him. He stopped immediately in his tracks and left his stomach wide open. I clenched my hand into a fist and struck the center of his abdomen. The force in the punch sent him flying in the air again. I caught up to him before he had time to recover and hit him with a powerful attack that knocked him out cold.

"How's that for not landing a solid attack?" I smirked once more. Before picking the unconcious Natsu up and carrying him back to the guild hall, I disabled all of the paper bombs and traps. I wouldn't want any innocent boy accidentally walking into one.

********

I walked into the guild with an unconcious Natsu slung over my shoulder. I walked over to a table that Lucy and Frub were sitting at and placed him next to Lucy.

"Natsu lost again huh?" Lucy asked. I nodded.

"I'm gonna go home and rest. That battle sucked my energy tank dry and now I'm tired. I'll see you at home Frub." I waved goodbye and went home to rest and restore my energy.
