The Vet

When they woke me up to put me back in the basket, I thought they were taking me back. I did not argue.

Was I too boring for them?

But soon we were at a clinic. I could smell the mixture of medicines, food and other dogs.

I was still in the basket, they wouldn't let me out no matter how much I whined and scratched the basket from inside.

Suddenly there was a loud screech and I jumped. She was the smallest human I had ever seen.

"Oh my god! Is that a dog or a cat?" She asked, jumping up and down.

"Dog." My Mother human told her, turning to keep me away from her. But the girl did not take the hint. She asked questions and begged my humans to let her play with me. I stayed quiet, hoping they wouldn't let her touch me. To my relief they did not let that happen. The girl was too excited and small, I was afraid she would drop me.

The girl came with her guardian and a dog. He was a white Pomeranian who was almost a year old.

Finally it was our turn to go in. I felt the basket steady and then the lid opened. I shot out like a bullet and jumped onto the steel table. It was where all dogs were kept during their tests.

There were female humans all around me. The stranger was wearing a lab coat. I was scared. What would they do to me? I could hear other dogs barking. That scared me too!

The human in the lab coat was called Doctor. Everyone she came towards me, I would take a few steps backwards. Then they held me down and stabbed me with a needle. It wasn't as painful as I expected it to be.

The humans who brought me there were saying comforting things like "good boy"

Back in the basket we were still not done with this place. They bought supplies for me. Some food, some toys and a leash.

I did not like the look of that leash. It was thin like a wire and would tighten when I pulled on it. But the others looked so heavy. I kept my head in my paws hoping to leave soon.

Thankfully it was over and we were back in the car.
I was sure that wouldn't be the last time I visited this place.
