20. Hopeful
Akaashi played with his fingers, watching other people converse. He'd missed this.
People were around him, talking and enjoying the food that was out. He was sitting near the fire, warming himself like a few other people were.
"Akaashi-san!"
Akaashi looked over and smiled at Hinata. The ginger hurried over, grinning. "Hello, Hinata."
"Hey, Akaashi! Are you feeling good?"
Akaashi internally cringed. Could people not look at him and ask something having to do with his health? "I'm good, thank you."
"Of course!" Hinata plopped down by him. "You moved out of Tokyo?"
"Mhmm." Akaashi fiddled. "Do you mind going to see if there's any Strawberries or Broccoli?"
"Mhmm!"
Akaashi smiled to himself, rubbing his arms to warm up. Bokuto walked up, leaning down. "Hey, Keiji. Did you get anything to eat?"
"Mhmm. Hinata is getting me something to eat."
"Alright. Mind if I sit with you?"
"No, no I don't mind at all." He moved over, away from the fire.
"Woah there, move the other way. I don't need the fire."
Akaashi moved back and Bokuto sat down, gently holding him closer. "Uh oh…"
"What is it?"
"This is so embarrassing… I'm starting to feel really fuzzy."
"Like tired fuzzy or seizing fuzzy?"
"Seizing."
"It's okay, it's okay. Come on, let's go get Kiyoko to get you somewhere safe." Bokuto eased him up and headed over to Kiyoko. "Hey, can you show us somewhere away from everything? He needs to step away from the crowd for a second."
Kiyoko nodded, pointing to a hallway. "First door on the right is my bedroom."
"Thank you so much." Bokuto eased him forward to the hallway. Akaashi wouldn't move though, still against him. "Hey, hey, hey. Keiji we need to go."
"I can't."
"What?"
"I can't." Akaashi gulped, hands already trembling. "This is so embarrassing…"
"I've got you." Bokuto held him, almost immediately feeling him collapse. He set him on the floor, Tanaka hurrying to them to see if he could help. "He's fine. This happens."
Kiyoko got a water bottle, giving it to Tanaka. "Will he be okay?"
"Yeah, yeah he'll be okay."
Kiyoko shooed away her friends who were gathering, not wanting Akaashi to feel bad for taking attention when he came to. When Akaashi did stop seizing and started to regain a feeling of the world around him he felt Bokuto holding his hand and heard talking. It took a bit for him to come to his senses, but when he did he was carried off to the basement where he couldn't help but lay down on the floor and doze off, his body too tired to even think.
Bokuto sat with him, not wanting him to be approached. Any other time but while he was sleeping was okay to approach him.
Kiyoko brought down some blankets and pillows along with a cot. Well, Tanaka carried the cot because he was frantic over not wanting to have Kiyoko lift anything heavier than a pillow. He seemed really lovey with it though, fawning over Kiyoko.
"Sorry about the cot. We can try to find something to be put on the cot to make it softer."
Akaashi, now half awake shook his head. "No, it's okay." Bokuto helped him into the cot, getting him comfortable.
"Oh, do you need another cot?"
"Oh no, we can share the space."
"Hang on I'm gonna go fix the living room so you can sleep upstairs." Tanaka ran upstairs with the pillows and blankets they'd brought down.
Bokuto sighed. He lifted Akaashi, holding him against his chest. Tanaka brought them back upstairs where he'd pushed two couches together. Tons of pillows and blankets were on the couches, making it comfortable. Bokuto eased him into the nest situation. "He seems to like it."
Kiyoko smiled. "Akaashi, is that better?"
Akaashi nodded. He yawned. "Like Ko's muscles."
Bokuto sat down. "Ignore that."
"Mm… Lay down I need my hug."
"Shhhh." Bokuto turned to him, huddling into him. "It's okay."
Akaashi giggled. "Ooh, a hug. So comfy."
Kiyoko chuckled. "I'll make sure he gets something to eat in the morning."
Bokuto nodded. He rubbed his back, slow. Akaashi was tucked into his special spot where he fell asleep, perfectly fine now that he got to rest.

Bokuto leaned down, curious. "What are you doing?"
"Stretching. My body hurts," Akaashi mumbled.
"Ooh." Bokuto sat in front of him. "Did you need something?"
"Some water?"
Bokuto nodded. He got him some water, humming softly at the feeling of the sun coming through the windows. "It's nice that it's getting warmer."
"Mm… Feels nice on my head." Akaashi sat up. He rubbed his knuckles, so done with the ache in them. "Radiation is almost done."
"And there's still no donor?"
"Not yet." Akaashi laid on his back, yawning.
Bokuto scooted closer, tapping his forehead. "Do you want me to fix your back?"
"That would be nice." Akaashi turned over.
Bokuto rubbed his shoulders, loosening his muscles. Akaashi relaxed, thankful for the older male's concern for his back. Ren had kicked and hit him so many times after bone marrow tests so this was a nice change.
"You want Oda to walk on your back later?"
"No, it's okay." Akaashi huddled closer.
Bokuto kept rubbing his back, gentle. He handed Akaashi his phone as it started to buzz.
"Hello?" Akaashi picked at the carpet, listening. "Mhmm. I'll come in tomorrow."
Bokuto eyed him.
"That's amazing!" Akaashi looked back at Bokuto. "Can I know who it is?" There was a moment before Akaashi's smile widened. "Oh wow… Thank you."
"What is it?"
"I have a donor."
"Oh cool!" Bokuto helped him sit up. "Who is it?"
"Tsukishima." Akaashi smiled to himself. "He has the same blood type and is healthy…"
"I thought he didn't know."
"I guess my mother told him." Akaashi smiled. Tomorrow was his last radiation treatment. He had to wait three to four weeks for his transplants to start but he was extremely hopeful. Results kept coming back good for him.
Bokuto hugged him, nearly crying from how happy he was. He loved Akaashi so much and now he was hopefully going to be okay.
