11. Okay

Bokuto eased Akaashi up slowly, noting his body not moving very fast. "You feeling okay?"

"Mhmm. Just a little slower than normal." Akaashi stumbled. "I have to walk all the way into the hospital. Fuck."

"You hurt something?"

"No. Tired." Akaashi leaned into Bokuto, sighing. He closed his car door. "Let's go."

Bokuto hesitated. He took Akaashi's bag from him, putting it on his back. "Arms up."

Akaashi tried the best he could to do the simple action. He was hefted up and carried inside where Bokuto helped him get around. The younger male just didn't want to do much because of how tired he was. It was understandable but other people were looking at him as if he was pitiful.

Bokuto ignored them, just focusing on Akaashi until he nearly fell over trying to fix his coat. Bokuto got him a wheelchair, setting him in it. "You need to start asking for things. I can't read your mind Keiji."

Akaashi huffed. "I know."

Bokuto set his head in Akaashi's lap. "You have a lot of nose hair."

"Oh, gross stop."

Bokuto laughed. "I'm only joking." He sat up. "You should be glad Kuroo is co-owner. I get to spend more time with you!"

Akaashi smiled.

"Akaashi Keiji!"

Akaashi had Bokuto roll him over to the nurse. The nurse led them upstairs where Akaashi had to do have a head scan. It came back normal and he was hooked up to an IV to hydrate.

Today was the dreaded day he was getting a port in his chest where chemo would be administered. He was scared of the infection risk but he knew he would like this better.

Bokuto was taken away for this part and Akaashi was put under anesthetic. The port was put into his chest and he seemed very comfortable when he woke up. The doctors and nurses waited for him to wake up to continue with treatment, which was relatively easy since he didn't need the constant pricking of needles. He stayed still, staring everywhere but at the port.

When Bokuto was let back in the room he had food, which Akaashi thanked him over and over for. It was just oatmeal but it was the best he'd ever had.

"You good over there?"

"Mhmm! Gotta finish this before I feel everything kick in. Then nap. Good luck waking me up."

"Noted." Bokuto leaned over, putting a beanie on his head. "You don't feel icky?"

"I don't." Akaashi swept his hair into the beanie. "I'm gonna look so weird bald."

"Don't worry man. No one will judge you."

Akaashi eyed him. "Did you just call me man?"

Bokuto laughed nervously. "Yeah, it felt weird to say."

Akaashi hummed. He finished up eating quickly before trying to get comfortable.

"You want some help?"

"Mhmm." Akaashi sighed. "I should be sleeping on my back."

"Gotcha." Bokuto covered him up. He fixed the pillows and bed elevation. "Better?"

Akaashi nodded. His eyes were closed and he seemed relaxed enough.

"You fall asleep?"

Akaashi shook his head. "Not yet."

Bokuto hummed. He noticed the other male's head tilt and body go slack. "Woah, woah. Keiji." Bokuto stood, lifting his chin. "You okay there? Keiji?"

Akaashi started to shake, choking.

"Fuck." Bokuto hurried out of the room, going to the nurse's station. "He's seizing."

Nurses hurried into his room. They moved him onto his side carefully, wary of the port in his chest. Akaashi calmed back down, gulping for air. "W-what- what happened?"

"You had a seizure Keiji." Bokuto held him still, rubbing his arms. "Deep breaths."

Akaashi held onto him, closing his eyes. "My heart is beating… So fast."

Bokuto hummed. Another nurse set Akaashi back up with monitors. His heart was beating pretty fast.

Bokuto got him comfortable, still holding him since Akaashi nearly refused to let go. Poor thing was exhausted and in need of a good hug.

Bokuto gave him that as long as he needed, rubbing his hair under the beanie. There was no way he was going to see Akaashi cry. Seeing him cry to Bokuto was like… Watching a butterfly getting trapped in a spiderweb. There was no way to stop it and it hurt him to watch.

"You sleeping?" Bokuto whispered. Akaashi stayed still in his arms, his shallow breathing brushing Bokuto's neck like summer winds. He shifted, taking a deep breath. "Taking that as a yes."

Bokuto slowly stood, trying to slip away. That proved to be difficult as Akaashi woke slightly, clinging to him.

"Ah… Sorry."

Akaashi took a deep breath. "Lay down…"

"Hm?"

Akaashi shifted, obviously delirious. "It's chilly."

"I can't lay with you silly. The bed's too small." Bokuto chuckled.

"Nuh-uh. C'mere." Akaashi gently pulled his sleeve. "Just like then…"

"Keiji. No." Bokuto pulled away. The then he talked about was gone at this point. That was high school. They were adults now and thinking about when they were together was something to do in private. "I'll go get you some water."

Akaashi stared at him. "You know, Ren doesn't lay with me in bed anymore? He says it's not enjoyable."

Bokuto stared back. "What?"

Akaashi closed his eyes, settling down. "I wish it was back to normal."

Bokuto waited a moment. "We can do normal. Just for a bit." He settled in next to Akaashi, holding him close.

Akaashi started crying. "I made a mistake."

"Keiji, Keiji. Deep breaths. It's okay." Bokuto whispered. He rubbed his hair, worried. "You just need to rest. It'll be okay."

Akaashi held on, trying to calm his tears. It felt so nice to lay here even if he would forget about this when he woke completely. He just missed being loved. Sure his son loved him but he needed something deeper.

Bokuto was there and it would be okay. He was going to be okay. Everything was going to be okay if he could just tough it out until he was healthy again and able to escape.
