Long Recovery
**This is a longer chapter. Also, this is a chapter that may be emotionally triggering. Reader discretion advised.*******
A Few Days Later.....
Jasmine had not been herself. She was quiet, she barely ate and hardly slept. When they would sit at the dining room table for a meal, all Jasmine would do is stare off into space, and occasionally pick at her food.
"Baby girl, please eat something." Joe said softly.
"I'm not hungry." Jasmine replied flatly, and not making any eye contact.
"Sweetheart, you haven't eaten that much since you've been home, and it's not healthy for you." Dwayne chimed in.
"I miss my babies. I didn't even have a chance to say goodbye or anything. I didn't get a chance to name them or anything. How can I eat knowing that?! H-how can I do anything?!" She cried.
Dwayne and Joe were speechless. Deep down, they knew that what their wife was saying was 100% correct. Despite their best efforts, very little could be done to assuage their wife's feelings. Their one saving grace that they had was that Dr. Levesque would be making a home visit the next day.
Later that evening.......
Jasmine was in her own bed, tossing and turning as usual. Suddenly, she felt a presence looming over her. When she looked up, she saw two small babies, a boy and a girl, holding each other and staring at her......
"Mommy?" The little boy said, eyes wide.
Jasmine looked at the children in confusion....
"Who are you?" Jasmine asked in confusion.
"I'm your baby and she's your baby too." The little boy said, still holding on to his sister.
"Oh, you've come back to me!!!" Jasmine said excitedly.
All of a sudden, the little boy had a sad look on his face, as well as his sister when they looked at each other.
"No mommy. We haven't come back. We are just here to say goodbye." He said sadly.
The little girl nodded her head in agreement, which caused Jasmine's face to fall in sadness.
"Yeah, we can't stay here. But we're in a nice place now, and we're happy. We get to play all day and have lots of fun!" He said excitedly.
Jasmine continues to look very sad and now tears have welled in her eyes.
"I miss you both my babies!" She cried.
"We miss you too mommy. But don't be sad, we are happy, so we want you to be happy too." He said, as he reached over and gave Jasmine a kiss on the cheek.
"Bye bye mommy! Bye bye! We love you and we'll see you again someday. Please be happy and take care of our daddies so that they won't be sad and can be happy too." The baby girl said as she and her brother waved as they disappeared.
"Please! My babies come back!! Come back!! Don't leave me!!" Jasmine wailed loudly and repeatedly.
Jasmine kept wailing and calling for her children before she felt herself being shaken by a pair of strong hands.....
"Baby girl!!! Wake up!!" Joe yelled, trying to shake his wife awake.
Jasmine opened her eyes and looked at her husband who was clearly worried as evidenced by the look on his face.....
"W-where are they?" Jasmine asked.
"Where's who?" Joe asked, his brows furrowed in confusion.
"The babies! They were here!!" She said, wide eyed.
At that time, Dwayne, who had heard the commotion, had come into the room and had heard what Jasmine said about seeing the babies. Dwayne and Joe gave each other a knowing look at her statement.
"Uh baby girl, I think you were dreaming. The babies....are....gone." Joe said gently.
"No!!! They were here! They even kissed me! They were real!" She insisted.
"Baby, you were dreaming." Dwayne chimed in.
"No, I'm telling you, the babies were here, they just left." Jasmine said, insisting that her husbands believe her.
"O-ok baby....sure....." Joe said cautiously.
"You don't believe me, do you? You think I'm crazy!!" Jasmine sobbed.
"No baby, that's not what I'm saying....." Joe started to say...
"THEN WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?! I KNOW WHAT I SAW!'" Jasmine yelled in frustration.
"Baby, just calm down. We think you need to talk to someone. Dr. Shareef and I think that you need to talk to a psychiatrist. She referred us to Drs. Levesque." Dwayne said.
Jasmine, at that moment, lost it.......
"Psychiatrist?! For what?! I'm not crazy!!!! You know who's crazy?! Huh?!! You and Joe are crazy!!!!" Jasmine screamed in frustration.
"Baby girl...." Joe started to say...
Jasmine got up and went into the bathroom and slammed the door.
Joe and Dwayne just looked at each other....
"Well, that went well." Dwayne said, shaking his head.
The Next Morning......
Dwayne, Jasmine and Joe were in the dining room having breakfast. Actually, Dwayne and Joe were the only ones eating. Jasmine, still upset about what occurred, was just sitting at the table, not touching her food and sulking......
"Baby girl, why are you not eating?" Joe asked.
Jasmine just glowered at him, without a response, and instead rolled her eyes and turned up her nose in disgust.....
"Woman!!! I asked you a question! Don't you roll your eyes at me! What did I tell you about that bullshit?!" Joe snapped.
"Leave me the hell alone, Joe! You think I'm crazy!" She shot back.
Joe's lips start to twitch, as they often did when he was irritated or pissed off.
"Dammit!!!" Joe yelled, slamming his fist on the table in frustrated anger. "Ain't nobody said you was crazy!!! What the fuck is wrong with you?!!"
"What's wrong with me?! No asshole!! What's wrong with you!!!! Huh?!!" Jasmine snapped back.
"Ok that's enough!!! Both of you, knock it off!!!" Dwayne yelled.
At that moment, the doorbell rang. Jasmine and Joe were staring daggers at each other, completely ignoring the fact that someone was at the door.
"Don't everyone get up at once, I'll get it." Dwayne said sarcastically, rolling his eyes in annoyance.
When Dwayne opened the door, he saw Dr. Shareef, who was accompanied by a well-dressed couple.
"Good morning Dr. Shareef." Dwayne said smiling.
"Good morning Dwayne. I'd like introduced you to Drs. Paul and Stephanie Levesque, the psychiatrists I told you about?" She said, gesturing to the couple. "Paul, Stephanie, this is Dwayne Johnson, one of the two husbands of my patient Jasmine."
"Hello doctors, pleased to meet both of you." Dwayne said, shaking both of their hands.
"It's a pleasure to meet you as well, Mr. Johnson. Dr. Shareef has told us great things about you, Jasmine and Mr. Anoa'i." Stephanie said.
"Indeed, my wife is right and we're very excited to be working with you." Paul said.
Suddenly, they heard a loud commotion in the informal dining room that sounded like an argument.....
"YOU BETTA WATCH YOUR DAMN MOUTH WOMAN!!!!!" Joe roared.
"AND WHAT THE FUCK YOU GONNA DO IF I DONT?! BEAT YOUR CHEST AND THROW ME OVER YOUR DAMN SHOULDER?! YOU GONNA PULL THAT DICK SWINGING MACHO SHIT THAT YOU PULLED IN SAMOA?! YOU THICK ASS OVERGROWN CAVEMAN! GET OUTTA MY FACE AND GO EAT SOME RAW MEAT AND GRUNT!!!" Jasmine shrieked back at her furious hubby.
"Yeah aight keep talkin' shit...I got yo' damn caveman. I'ma take your sassy mouthed ass across my knee and spank the living shit outta you!!!!! That's what!!! Joe screamed, his anger at the boiling point.
"Oh yeah?! You and whose army of Boy Scouts?!" Jasmine retorted.
"That did it...get over here!!! I'm gonna whip your ass!!" Joe snarled, pulling his belt off and stalking Jasmine around the table.
Dwayne looked at the doctors who had looks of shock on their faces and shook his head in embarrassment. It was at that moment, he knew he had to intervene.
"Hey!!!! We got company!" Dwayne said, with a fake smile on his face, but eyeing the duo, silently telling them to shut up and mind their manners.
"Oh, hey Dr. Shareef." Joe said with an embarrassed smile.
"Hi Dr. Shareef." Jasmine said sheepishly, embarrassed at her behavior.
"Good morning. I'd like you all to meet Drs. Paul and Stephanie Levesque, they are board-certified psychiatrists. Jasmine, I thought it would be beneficial for you to talk to Dr. Stephanie and fellas you should talk to Dr. Paul." She said.
At that moment, Jasmine became upset again....
"Psychiatrist? See you think I'm crazy!!" Jasmine cried as she burst into tears and ran off to her bedroom, shutting the door.
"Oh boy." Dr. Shareef said, covering her face in embarrassment. "Umm...well Dr. Paul is here for you and Joe." She explained.
"Sure." Dwayne said.
"Yeah....I guess." Joe scoffed.
"Good." Dr. Shareef said. "Come Steph, let's go find Jasmine.
After Dr. Shareef and Stephanie went to go find Jasmine, Paul engaged with Dwayne and Joe....
"Ok, so.....uh, is there somewhere we can go and talk?" Paul asked, rubbing the back of his neck uncomfortably.
"Uh sure, we can go in here." Dwayne said, pointing to the direction of the office.
Meanwhile......
Dr. Shareef and Stephanie found Jasmine's bedroom and were at her door knocking......
"Jasmine? It's Dr. Shareef, please open the door, we just wanna talk to you, that's all." She said.
"You think I'm crazy too." Jasmine sobbed.
"No, we don't think you're crazy. Honest, we don't." Dr. Shareef said.
At that moment, Dr. Stephanie spoke up.......
"Jasmine? Please, i'd like to speak to you. I think I understand how you feel. Dr. Shareef told me what happened. I had a similar experience." She confessed.
When Jasmine open the door, her face was red, and her eyes full of tears. Look on her face, broke Dr. Shareef's heart. In the time that she had been employed as her primary physician, she had come to love Jasmine like the little sister, that she never had, being that she was the only girl and the youngest child in her family.
"You....you had a similar experience?" Jasmine asked, sniffing.
"Yes, I did." Stephanie said.
"Really?" Jasmine said as she wiped her eyes. "W-what happened?"
"Well...." Stephanie began, as she came into the room. "May I sit down?"
"Uh...sure." Jasmine replied, gesturing to a chair.
"I'm the mother of 3 beautiful daughters and I don't mind telling you that those girls are my entire life." Stephanie continued.
"Well lucky you. Since my babies died, I now have nothing." Jasmine said with a hint of sarcasm in her voice.
"Jasmine, please hear her out." Dr. Shareef said.
"It's ok. Well, even though I have my girls, I've had 4 miscarriages and 3 stillbirths. Not to mention, with each of my living daughters, I've suffered from postpartum depression so severe that, believe it or not, I was hospitalized twice for suicide attempts." Stephanie explained.
Jasmine's mouth dropped in disbelief at the doctor's personal revelation.
"Are you serious?" She asked.
"I most certainly am." Dr. Stephanie said. "I must tell you, if it wasn't for my mother, mother-in-law, and some really great friends, I wouldn't be sitting here in front of you right now. Even though my husband is also a psychiatrist, it really took a hard toll on our marriage."
"Wow....all I can say is wow." Jasmine said.
"I told you all this to say that you are not alone. Although you have been through a very horrible experience, and it is unique to you and you alone, you don't have to face it alone, and if you will allow me, I would love to help you." Dr. Stephanie said.
"I just miss my babies and I'm afraid that I will never get a chance to have anymore." Jasmine said sadly.
That's when Dr. Shareef spoke up......
"Jasmine, that's not true. I spoke to Dr. Copeland, and he says that you have healed physically and there's no reason why you can't conceive. As a matter of fact, I'm going to prescribe Clomid for you to assist in the ability to conceive properly." She said.
"And if you will allow me, I would like to see you twice a week, just to follow up." Dr. Stephanie said.
"Ok." Jasmine replied, sighing deeply.
"Good. So where do we get started?"
Meanwhile, in Dwayne and Joe's office.........
Dr. Paul was talking to Dwayne and Joe about what happened to Jasmine, and their thoughts........
"So, I understand that you gentlemen have had a pretty difficult time?" He asks.
"We most certainly have." Dwayne replied.
Joe remain quiet and sullen. He still believed that he did not need a "shrink". Him and Dwayne exacting revenge on the lowlifes that hurt his family is therapy enough.
"Joe? You're awfully quiet. Do you have anything on your mind?" Dr. Paul asked.
"Nope. I'm good." Joe answered casually.
Dwayne rolled his eyes. He knew that Joe needed to unload and get stuff off his chest.
"Joe, stop lying. You know damn well, that you have had a problem coping ever since we got the news that Jasmine was in the hospital. Quit being a jabroni and talk! That's why Dr. Paul is here!!" Dwayne yelled in frustration.
"Hey, it's OK if he doesn't wanna talk. I'm not going to coerce him into talking. When he feels ready, whenever that is, to open up, I'm right here." He reassured.
"Thank you!" Joe replied gratefully.
"So...what about you Dwayne? What's on your mind? Let's talk about it." Dr. Paul challenged.
"Well, I have been feeling angry, very angry." Dwayne said, finally opening up to the psychiatrist.
"Ok. And why exactly have you felt angry?" He inquired.
Dwayne was quiet for a few minutes, in an attempt to gather his thoughts, before speaking again.......
"I'm angry, because my wife was violated, and it caused the death of my baby boy!" Dwayne replied, his voice cracking with emotion. "Not only that, this is the second child that was snatched from me!! The second child!! How unfair is that?!"
At that moment, Dwayne burst into tears and broke down sobbing, something he hadn't done since the incident occurred. When he cried, he felt as if he was unloading tons of anger, sorrow and heartbreak. After he finished, he was quiet, but inwardly felt relief.
"I noticed that the loss of your child and the attack on your wife, as evidenced by you breaking down, has taken a severe toll on your emotional health. Are you ok?" Dr. Paul asked with concern evident in his voice.
"I am. I apologize, I-I didn't mean to do that." Dwayne said, as he wiped his eyes and was sniffing.
"It's OK, you've done nothing wrong. You were simply opening up and unloading all the emotions that you have been bottling up inside." He explained.
At that moment, Dr. Paul and Dwayne looked over at Joe, who had been silent. They noticed that Joe had also become emotional. When he lifted his head, they saw that he was also in tears in his eyes were bloodshot red....
"Joe? Are you ok? Dr. Paul asked.
"N-no. I'm not ok. I'm not ok at all." He sobbed, before completely breaking down.
Dr. Paul took a deep breath and gave both men tissues. All he could do was sit quietly and be a source of therapeutic support for both men.
A short time later, after Dwayne and Joe calmed down. Dr. Paul spoke....
"Gentlemen, it's obvious that the two of you have some unresolved emotional issues. In my professional opinion, I think would be beneficial, if I could see you both every two weeks." He said.
"Yes, that's fine. I think it would really help us a lot." Dwayne replied. "Joe? Do you agree?"
"Yeah, I don't mind." Joe sniffed sadly.
