" A man made of all things evil. "
Sunny and Sam spun around, watching as shadows stepped out from the darkness. Gemma walked to the front of the room, followed by Violet, Grayson, Jen and Dan. All of her deceased family were standing behind her- in ghost form.
They all looked so real.
"Mom. Dad. Vi, Gray, Gem?" Sunny trembled, her eyes tearing up. She wanted to rise from her seat and hug them but she couldn't. She knew her body would go straight through theirs and it would only hurt. But she'd felt her sisters hand on her shoulder - or, at least, the energy of it...and that was enough.
"Hey." Grayson quickly said, waving his five year old tiny hand.
"Hey sis." Violet smiled sweetly, her perfect lips coming to form a perfect smile.
Gemma placed her hands on her hips. "You sure haven't changed." She chimed.
Sunny let out a small sob, causing Sam cradle her in his arms. She cried onto his shoulder. It was the sight of her dead family that had caused her to emerge into tears.
"I've missed you guys so much." Sunny choked, trying to breath through thick sobs. "I-I..."
"We've always been here." Her mother replied, standing close to Sunny. Sunny stopped sobbing- but she still felt as if she could.
"I need your help. It's Jo."
Sunny probably didn't need to say it. If her father had woken her this morning, chances were that he already knew.
"We know." Grayson chirped.
Just the sight of her baby brother risked her to emerge into tears once more.
"I don't know where to look. I don't even know where to find her!" Sunny vented.
Dan, her father, nodded. "We know."
"Then you ought to know why we summoned you. What is it, Jen, Dan? What got to you?" Bobby questioned. Jen smiled as her eyes glazed over Bobby.
"You sure you wanna know? Because once you learn this, the whole world gets a lot bigger." Jen told Bobby, her voice smooth and comforting. Something Sunny had longed to hear for a decade.
"I'm afraid she's right. We were in too deep. We were hunters who became the hunted. What we found was enough to make us quit." Dan added.
Sam looked up, analysing the family.
"We're sure. Jo isn't dead, which means she's somewhere. She's somewhere and you are the only two who know." Sam told them. Dean wanted to speak- only the worry infiltrating every one of his thoughts left him speechless.
"Fair enough." Danny nodded, "Then if you want to know- you can know."
"The thing that killed us was a Behemoth." Jen confessed.
"A behemoth? As in the bible?" Bobby exclaimed in disbelief.
"As in the bible. Known from the bible as the largest and most powerful beast to ever exist, the king of all land animals. At the End of Days, God would command the Behemoth and the Leviathan to battle to the death, then a feast of their flesh would be served to the righteous." Danny recited.
"What is it?" Dean inquired, his voice coming out weak.
"When you die, your soul is descended into your rightful place. Heaven or hell. Those who refuse to let go and stay to watch over their loved ones are at risk to becoming a Behemoth. If you stay and watch over your loved ones, a day will come when they will die. Then, you are left just a spirit in the realm. Some become vengeful spirits, angry over time. Though some, those who had been evil in their life, those who were already vengeful, surpass into something much worse. They intertwine with the other violent spirits, over time, binding themselves together to create one giant entity. A Behemoth. A man made of all things evil." Dan's words achieved fear inside every hunter in the room- even if it were only for a brief second.
"Those entities are strong enough to climb through the sheet and enter our world. They hide out, consuming the flesh and souls of the living. They hide in small towns where they can take what they want and never be questioned. Because they were once human, they are smart. They remain under the radar. These spirits are angry. So angry. They hold grudges- and we are ones to know." Jen explained. Dean bit his lip.
"So if one of these things has Jo, what is he going to do to her?"
Dan stepped forward, a worried expression written on his face.
"For now, starve her, beat her- whatever he pleases. He will feed on her fear, her pain and eventually her flesh." Jen answered for her husband.
"How long do we have?" Sunny stammered, her hands beginning to shake again. She was racking with fear for her little sister.
"Depends how long Jo wants to fight. She's strong. She'll wait for you guys to get to her." Jen comforted her daughter.
Sunny nodded, reassuring herself that everything would be okay.
"How do we find this thing and kill it?" Dean countered, sitting straight in his place.
"For this thing, I can only assume it's still hiding out where we last left it, in Stoney Hills, up south. Killing it? Not going to be as easy as you think." Dan told Dean.
Bobby bit down on his lip, stepping forward. "Tell us."
"You'll need to release it. All of the angry spirits are holding onto earth. Holding grudges. You'll need to find a way to cut it's cord from earth and send it back to hell, where the souls belong."
Sam nodded.
"And how do we do that?" Dean marvelled.
"They're afraid of fire. It won't kill them but they're afraid of it. Trap the beast with fire and then convince it of what it is. If you trap it successfully, that will be the easy part. Talking to it will be the hard part. These things are beings of regret, revenge and grudges. They'll try and manipulate you, they'll make it hard for you to persuade them of what they are. If you fight through their persuasion and you crack their shell, they become their weakest. Just tainted angry souls. Then you take a knife blessed with the blood of the righteous and stab it through the Behemoth's heart"
Sunny nodded. "So we talk to them? Seems easy enough, what else?"
Gemma shook her head.
"Aren't you listening, Sunny? Even in the moments when they have their hands twisting inside you, squeezing at your heart, they'll manipulate you. Their voice is so strong it drills into your head. It won't be easy." The sister bellowed. Sunny sighed, nodding slowly.
"We don't have long left." Violet spoke. "The connection is getting weaker."
Sunny shook her head, standing up.
"Wait! You've never told me. Why are you here?! What are you holding on to? Why can't you pass on?"
Slowly, like static on a television, Grayson flickers away, passing on into nothing. Then Violet, then Gemma, leaving both of Sunny's parents standing- but barely.
"This. We left unfinished business."
And before anybody could ask anymore questions, both Jen and Danny flickered away.
More silence wrapped around the room as the fire blew out. Bobby moved slowly, pulling the blinds up and allowing sunshine into the room.
"Step one." Bobby began. "A knife blessed by the blood of a righteous man. Step two, getting our asses over to Stoney Hill."
