" We've come a long way from when we were kids, haven't we? "

"Wait a minute...what are you tryna say?" Sam sat down on the arm-chair across from the sofa. Sunny rubbed her forehead, sighing.
"For a while it was just doors opening and closing. Little things like that." Bobby started.
"Then whispers. Single words morphed into sentences over time. Books would open on particular pages...lost items would turn up in places we didn't put them..." Jolie continued.
"And then they'd appear." Sunny finally finished.
"Who?" Dean questioned, a confused look on his face.
"Our parents, our sisters, our brother." Sunny answered. For a second she worried that they'd think she was crazy but then she realised that for once, she wasn't in this alone.
"You see your dead family?" Sam asked the sisters. Jo nodded.
"We've tried to contact reapers. Anything to get them to move on. They stayed. They didn't go to heaven because of a message they wanted to give us. Fifteen years and they're still here. Fifteen years and we still don't know that message." Jo explained, tucking a curl behind her ear anxiously.
"How often do you see them?" Dean's shoulders sagged and for some reason he began to feel guilt.
"Not often anymore. When we were here with Bobby we'd see them rarely. Enough that you could chalk it up to lack of sleep and grief. Then when we left here I'd wake up to my father shaking me awake, yelling at me to to go back. To drop the case." Sunny looked down at her hands, surprised to see them shaking.
"Same here." Bobby added. "In the beginning, it was little things. They'd leave me candy wrappers of your favourite candies. Help with handling you two. When you got into hunting they'd tell me to stop you from it. I tell you girls, they begged me so hard to keep you from that life. When you left, I woke up to your mother sobbing almost every morning." Bobby paused, his voice breaking slightly. "I'd scream at the wall 'WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO' and I'd hear her sob more. I'll never forget the morning she finally replied." Bobby trailed off, a lump forming in his throat.
"What did she say?" Jo whispered.
"She told me 'Aint nothing you can do. They're hunters now. They're gone. You've failed em'."
Sunny let out a breath of air. "Bobby- I am so sorry. You haven't failed us...mom was always dramatic like that. You couldn't have failed us if you tried."
Bobby shook his head, then bowed it. "All this time- I coulda found you. I coulda looked...but I didn't. I was scared that what she had told me was true. I was so scared that I really had failed you."
"Bobby. You didn't. Look at them. They're strong beautiful women." Dean announced, looking over at the sisters and smiling. "They're just fine."
"Dean's right. Nobody is to blame." Sam added.
Silence spread amongst the room.
"And now? What do they do when they see you now?" Sam asked.
Sunny shrugged.
"We get warnings mostly. When things are about to go wrong on a hunt." Sunny explained, her head bowed.
"Or when it's about to come for us" Jolie added, making the hair on the back of her sister's neck rise.
They all fell silent, Dean rolling the information around in his head as he tried to make something of it.
Sunny yawned, glancing over at Sam, who stared at his hand and seemed to be pondering over thoughts of his own.
"I don't want to talk about this anymore." Sunny mumbled, rubbing at her tired eyes. "Slaying a coven of witches is hard work as it is, without bringing up this stuff."
Jo glanced over at her sister, nodding a small nod.
"There isn't much else to say anyway. You know just as much as we do now." Jo told the Winchesters. Bobby folded his arms over his chest, scanning the four adults sitting in his lounge room. What was next? What came for tomorrow?
Dean turned over and inspected Jo. Her long brown curls had fallen in front of her face as she stared at her sister- as if they were having an entire conversation through eye-contact.
"Yeah, I'm gonna head to bed too." Sam grumbled, standing up. Sunny stood up as well, reaching over and grabbing her sisters shoulder.
"You coming?" Sunny asked. Jo shook her head.
"I'm gonna clean up this mess. I'll meet you in there." She told Sunny. Sunny nodded.

Few seconds passed before Sam and Sunny ventured into the hallway, shoulders touching.
When they were out of ears distance, Sam turned to Sunny, leaning against the hallway wall. She stopped, standing in front of him.
"We made a pretty good team today." Sunny smirked, gazing into Sam's green eyes. Sam grinned, looking down at his feet shyly.
"So what happens next? Where do you and your sister go now that all of this witch stuff is over?" He questioned. Sunny pressed her lips into a thin line, pondering over the answer.
"I don't know. I want to say that I know but I don't. We ought to figure out a way to set our parents free...then kill whatever killed them." She whispered. Sam nodded.
"You really think you should be doing that alone?" Sam spoke quieter, almost gentler. Sunny let out a small exasperated sigh.
"I'm not alone." She gestured towards Jo, who sat beside Dean on the couch. They seemed to be talking. "I got my sister."
Sam bit his lip, tucking his hair behind his ear.
"Yeah."
Sunny stepped closer to Sam, close enough that the tips of their shoes touched and he could smell her sweet perfume.
"We've come a long way from when we were kids, haven't we?" She whispered, looping her fingers in her jean pocket. Sam leaned in, the same way one would lean in if they desired to kiss another- but they did not kiss. It was a tease. Neither of them went in for a kiss.
"Yeah, we have." He simply replied, his voice slow and groggy- as if his heart was beating faster than he could comprehend.

And even though it would have been great to kiss Sunny, to wrap his arms around her and show her how much he liked her, he didn't. Sam didn't feel like doing that this time. He didn't feel like rushing something that could mean so much more than a one night stand.
Sunny may have wanted him to kiss her- she may have wanted the boy she once shot with a BB gun to show her that she was forgiven. That would have been nice - but Sunny quickly reminded herself not to complicate things. Complications in relationships were never easy and she didn't feel like being hurt by Sam. She wanted this memory to last. The memory of the sweet tall boy to last. She didn't want anything to ruin that.

So slowly, Sunny withdrew from Sam, smirking at him as if she only intended to be a tease. She gave him a small wave goodnight and opened the door to the spare bedroom, stepping through and closing it behind her.

Once Sunny shut the door, she leant against it- breathing out. For a second, she scolded herself. Why must she miss opportunity to kiss the guy of her dreams just because she was afraid of getting hurt? There was no way Sam Winchester could hurt her! She was badass! She slayed the supernatural like it was morning golf with the boys. She was better than heartbreak.

KNOCK.

Sunny sucked in the air, pushing herself off of the bedroom door and staring at it.

KNOCK.

There it was again- another knock.
She wrapped her hand around the door knob and swung it open, not surprised to see Sam standing behind it, flustered.
"Hey." He exhaled, stepping through the doorframe. Sunny smiled, stepping back and allowing him to come inside.
"Hey." She replied, equally as flustered as Sam.
Sam took another step towards her, making sure to kick the door closed behind him.
