" ain't nothin rememberin' a ghost "
"Who's this?" Using the sleeve of his jacket, Sam scrubbed the dust off of the old frame and analysed the faces on it. It was of a young girl, ten maybe, standing beside a younger version of Bobby and an even younger girl. The two girls looked alike. It was obvious they were sisters, cousins maybe. Sam had seen a few pictures of the girls around the house but he'd never really had the guts to ask Bobby who they were. Maybe they were girls very close to Bobby and they'd passed. Sam didn't want to take the chance of unearthing hurt feelings inside of Bobby.
Bobby reached over and took the frame out of Sam's hands, smiling to himself as he admired the photo.
"That right there, are the greatest hunters you or I will ever share to exist with."
Sam smiled, thinking Bobby must be joking.
"Those girls?" He asked, in disbelief. Sam still wore the uncertain expression on his face.
"Eldest would be Sunny and the younger one, Jolie." Bobby still stared at the picture with a grin. Sam could only imagine the good memories he was reminiscing.
"Friends?" Sam asked.
"Ah- like daughters. Course I haven't seen em' in what would be fifteen years. Heard about them though." Bobby passed Sam the photo, so Sam could finally look and get a sense of the connection.
"Who are they to you?"
"Did I ever tell you about Jen and Dan? Long since retired hunters. Could say I worked with them in my late thirties, right when they were beginning. The two of em' moved to Australia. They seemed to be the only hunters to get out. The pair settled down, had five kids. Two of which, you're looking right at."
"So you said they're hunters now?" Sam didn't mean to ask so many questions, he just liked to hear a bit about Bobby's past- and any hunters were people he'd like to meet.
"Just like you and I know, once you start hunting you don't get out. Dan and Jen learned that the hard way...and it cost them both their lives and three of their kids. Knowin' me, the kids were sent here. The two girls were with me for a few years. Eventually they went off on their own way. Lost contact with me over time. Course, this was a decade ago, if that."
Sam was silent for a few minutes.
"They'd be in their twenties now, wouldn't they?" He asked.
"Sunny, twenty-five. Jo, twenty four maybe."
"And you never thought of contacting them?" Sam inquired.
Bobby shrugged.
"The kids never really needed me. They were two very strong girls. Ain't no match for an old man like me. Plus, I doubt they'd really wanna see me again."
"Why not?" Sam piped. To say he was intrigued would be an understatement.
"They were hunters. In their blood, like you boys. Not what their parents had in mind- but being here with all the books and junk never helped keep that side of them quiet. I tried to keep them from it...hunting. Course it didn't work. They're out there somewhere now, kickin' ass and taking names. I was just the old man who kept em' from doin' what they wanted to do."
Sam smiled, patting Bobby's shoulder.
"They'd thank you for that now." He was sure of it. How could they not.
"Don't you remember?" Bobby asked, giving Sam a confused look. "Don't you remember her?"
Sam stared at Bobby, giving him a look that meant 'you crazy?'.
"Remember what?"
"I'm sure on the odd weekends when your old man brought you boys round they was here?"
Sam tilted his head. "I can't remember them at all?"
"That's right! Dean and Jo got on like a house on fire, playin' poker by the fireplace. I swear I lost all my spare change with those two...You and Sunny...yeah...that's right?"
"Were we friends?" Sam inquired. Bobby scoffed.
"Friends, try enemies. That girl was a bucketful of sass and you weren't takin' it." Bobby chuckled to himself, thinking of the old times. "Thats right. Sun and Sam. Ah...what a handful."
Sam chuckled, despite not being able to remember any of it.
"Dean!" Sam called, waving his brother towards him.
Dean came over, holding a half full bottle of beer in his hand.
"Do these names ring a bell? Sunny and Jolie..." Sam trailed off, looking over at Bobby. "Last names?"
"Had to change it after their parents passed. They go by Omnis. The Omnis sisters."
"Omnis, as in the exorcism?" Sam asked, smiling to himself.
"Yeah..."
"Hell yeah I remember them. One of em...the youngest- oh boy, introduced me into the wonderful unexplored glory of women!"
Bobby stared at Dean in disbelief.
"You were thirteen and she was ten. What the hell is that suppose to mean?"
Dean smirked at Bobby, then looked down at the picture in Sam's hand, analysing every detail of it.
"What goes for them? They dead?" He bluntly questions.
"Dean!" Sam scolds, nudging his brother.
"No. Worse. Hunters- and better hunters than the three of us too. The most I hear of them these days are how undefeated they are. It's crazy."
Sam propped the photo back onto the fireplace, wiping his dust covered hands on his jeans.
"Hm." Bobby walks to the other end of the room, planting himself on the sofa and propping his feet atop the coffee table.
"Aint nothin rememberin' a ghost. They could be anything right now. Anything and they chose damn hunters. Don't know what it is about you kids. You got so much ahead of ya and you can't get it through ya thick skulls that hunting ain't worth a damn thing when put on a scale with your lives. I wish em' luck- but by the sounds of how it's going...they don't need it."
