Ship Class:

Although known mostly as an aircraft carrier, the Kuznetsov-class are classified as a Heavy aircraft cruiser.

The Kuznetsov-class has 3 ships built. 2 of them are in commission of the PRC, namely Liaoning (SN Riga/SN Varyag) and Shandong. The lead ship was still in use of the Russian Navy.

SN Admiral Kuznetsov has gone through a number of name changes 3 actually before being officially named as Admiral Kuznetsov;

I. SN Riga

II. SN Leonid Brezhnev

III. SN Tbilisi

The ship was built in Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. When the Soviet Union was disbanded in 1991, the Soviets or Russians "stole" it for their own, making it their only working aircraft carrier, at a worse cost.

The ship has undergo several huge problems to which angers the Russian Navy and the Russian Nation. Several overhauls and retrofits are challenging to fix such Soviet-era Aircraft Carrier.

SN Admiral Kuznetsov's original class was the fifth Kirov-class battlecruiser after SN Pyotr Velikiy, before construction of the aircraft carrier. This makes both the battlecruiser and aircraft carrier half-sister ships.

Further Updates: The aircraft carrier has been going on a huge extensive overhaul and repair. Since the sinking of Slava-class missile-guided cruiser, SN Moskva in amidst the ongoing Russo-Ukraine War, the aircraft carrier was kept safe, afraid for not being able to save their only aircraft carrier. In amidst her extensive overhaul for future sea operations for the Pacific, she was escorted by SN Pyotr Velikiy.
