I Am Crazy

Who knew I would end up in this situation.

I should have known. Every choice I made after that day led me to this point.

Did I regret it? Did I regret leaving my normal, peaceful and average life?

No.

Even if it led me to this, to my death, it also allowed me to save my friend. To love and live like I never did and be happier than I ever was.

I truly had a good life.

Now, I feel empty. As if all my energy and spirit was drained and the darkness filled that space. But I also feel glad and satisfied with the choices I've made.

My mouth moved into a smile and a tear rolled down my cheek.

Wait! My mouth moved. I can move!

I tried to move my arm but was unsuccessful.

Then I tried my leg.

Still nothing.

I decided to go for something that needed less energy and tried to open my eyes but failed, once again.

I was clearly too weak for that, but at least the effect of whatever was injected into me was slowly fading. I just needed to wait.

From time to time, I could hear steps getting closer and then moving away. The silence left was filled every second with water drops falling into what sounded like metal.

As I finally managed to open my eyes I saw a dimmed light illuminating metal bars in front of me. I could see the humidity on the concrete floor and as I looked up I could see the water drops falling from a pipe.

With the help of my shaking arms, I got up into a sitting position.

Soon enough the steps I once heard were back, accompanied this time by a shadow that stopped in front of my cell.

"I see you're awake. Took you long enough," spoke a deep and intimidating voice I knew.

I looked up to see him standing behind the bars. The same purple veins and killer eyes I've seen before.

I let out a snort. "You must really love me. First, you attack me, and my friend, and now you kidnaped me? I have to say that this is a sick way to show your love for me," I managed to say. "Are you one of those psychopath stalkers or something?"

"Feisty, aren't you? Do you think that's smart? Don't you realize that you're a prisoner? That I could easily kill you?"

"Then just kill me. Why won't you?"

"If it was up to me, you would be already six feet under," he spat. "However, the boss needs you alive. For now, at least."

"Great, that will give time for my friends to find me."

He laughed. "No one will ever find you here, Kitty Cat." He walked away, still laughing and I just wanted to run to the bars and call him out.

However, I was still weak, so I just shout out, "You just wait and see asshole!"

"You know he's right," a small female voice said from my right.

I didn't realize there was another cell next to mine until then. I turned around to see the frail woman sitting against the wall of her cell just like me.

"What do you mean?"

"Your friends. They won't find you. I know it's difficult to hear, but trust me when I say they won't be able to save you, even if they want to."

"How do you know?"

"I've been here for years now. I don't know how many really, I've lost the notion of time. Anyway, I had friends too, strong people that cared a lot for me, but they never found me. I think there might be a spell that doesn't allow others to sense us from the outside."

"Are there others?"

"Yes, a werewolf and a mermaid at the end of the hall. You can't see them from here because of the concrete wall that separates our cells. There was a fairy once, but she didn't stay for long."

"What happened?"

"They killed her."

Three simple words that carried more darkness than this room. Words that made the fear take over my body. I could feel my heart rate increase and tears forming in my eyes. I had no control over my reaction.

"Fairies have powers that could jeopardize their plans and security," she continued. "That's why they killed them, so don't worry love, I don't think they will hurt you. What could a human do against them right? Just don't think about it."

"Thank you. What exactly are their plans?"

"To create the ultimate weapon and use it on everyone that goes against them. At least that's the only thing I can think of."

"Are you okay? What did they do to you? You seem-"

"Weak?" She let out a weak chuckle.

"Yes. And you look so thin. I've never seen a Mythical like that."

"Well, then you haven't seen the dark side of this world love. You don't need to worry about it though. They will not do it to you because they don't need to. They can't, otherwise, you would be just a useless and weak human fighting for survival."

"I'm not worried about me. I'm worried about you."

"That's sweet." She gave me a small smile. "Anyway, to answer your question, they put wolfsbane in my system and rarely give me blood to drink. The wolfsbane alone already weakens my body, adding to it the lack of blood, it's like being starved to death."

"I thought vampires didn't need to drink blood to survive."

"We don't, but when we're poisoned with wolfsbane, blood is the only thing that can feed us correctly."

"Would you like to drink my blood?" I blurted.

"That's really sweet love, but I couldn't accept it."

"I heard something like that before, but he ended up accepting my help." I couldn't help but smile a little at the memory.

"Someone you care for?" I nodded with an idiotic smile on my face. "That's odd. I don't know a lot of mixed couples, especially humans and vampires, but I'm sure he really cares for you too."

"I think he does." I crawled close to the bars that separated us. "What's your name?"

"Emily."

"Well Emily, I'm Lisa and I really want to help you and the others to drink it. Please."

"I can't. I've been starving for too long and I don't think I would be able to stop if I start. I would kill you."

"Lucky for you I've always wanted to die a hero. Think about it, it's a life for three. You drink it, get stronger and free yourself and the others."

"No. It wouldn't work anyway. We would still have to face those monsters upstairs. I would be the only one strong enough to fight and I couldn't do anythingalone. It's not worthy of a life. Especially not yours Lisa Blake."

"How did you know my name?"

"I knew-"

Emily was cut off by the sound of steps coming once again towards us. And once again the talking Weirdo stood in front of my cell.

He took out a stack of keys and selected one to open my cell. He approached me and as he grabbed my arm I flinched.

"We're scared now, Kitty Cat? Well, you should be."

He pulled me up and walked me out of the cell. I looked behind me to see Emily's worried eyes on me.

We walked down the hall and I saw the werewolf laying almost lifeless on the ground of his cell, surrounded by wolfsbane. The mermaid in the cell next to his with had her skin cracked looking like dry sand patches in the desert. They were being tortured.

We walked up steep stairs and got to a room lit with white halogen lights. The room looked like a hospital room or a laboratory. The walls and the floor were white and the space was filled by a restraining chair and a steel cabinet.

The Weirdo forced me to sit on the chair and attached tightly the leather straps around my wrists and ankles.

"I'm going to call the boss now. Don't move, I'll be really quick." He chuckled. "What am I saying, of course, you won't move. You can't," he said, touching the tip of my nose with his finger. His face was so close to mine that I could see his red eyes and bulging veins clearly. His features made me nervous.

He laughed at his joke as he walked away.

"Wait!" I called him. "Why do you do this?"

He slowly turned around to look at me. I could see confusion and conflict in his eyes.

"Because I have to," he replied and left.

I heard heels clacking on the tiled floor. A female figure appeared in front of me. I looked at her face saw her impassive expression.

"What-"

"Shush," she cut me off. "I'm the one doing the talking Lisa. It's a shame really. A shame that we ended up like this. I mean I knew it might come to this, but I was really hoping it wouldn't. You see, I like you Lisa. I really do. You're a nice girl, you're smart and unlike most humans you have values. But you're also the piece I was missing."

"What do you want? Why are you doing this? I thought we were friends... You gave me a job. You helped me. Why are you doing this?"

"That's another thing about you. You're naïve. Did you really believe that I would give a job to an inexperienced little girl like you? Just like that? You poor girl." She stroked my hair. "When I saw your last name I knew I had to get you. You didn't get the job because you're an idealist or smart. That was... a bonus. I gave you that job because you're a hunter. You have that blood running through your veins and I knew I might need it. Nonetheless, I needed you to activate it. That's why I made you work with Levy and warned the Brotherhood about your little mission."

"You've planned everything since the beginning..."

"I thought that the danger would awaken your hunter instincts, but it didn't. I was almost giving up on you when I saw your eyes the other night. Not only your instincts were awake, but you could also control them."

"But why Eleonor? Why are you doing this?!"

"Remember those creatures you call Weirdos? A fun name by the way. Well, I created them. I wanted to create an ultimate weapon. An army really... An army that would serve me, so I created some Mythical hybrids. I've tried a lot of different combinations; however, as you've seen, it didn't work out so well." She let out a wicked chuckle. "I am getting closer though. Remember the guy that took you up here? I almost got the right combination with him. He is strong, fast and has brains! He can talk, he's not just a powerful beast, but he's still lacking something. Something that could help him control the beast inside. That something is hunters blood. Your blood. It's only natural really."

I didn't know how she could talk to me about this so naturally. Like she was talking to her best friend about a new dress she bought.

Eleonor went to the cabinet and pulled out empty blood bags and the material needed to draw blood.

She came closer to me and start prepping my arm to insert the needle.

"Don't worry Lisa. I won't kill you. I need you alive for this. I'm sorry but I don't know how much of your blood I should add to the mix, so I will need a lot of it. Just in case." She smiled.

The same smile she offered me so many times before. She was crazy.

"But why Eleonor? What do you get from it? From all of this?"

She inserted the needle and I saw my blood filling the bag.

"Why?! Because I want revenge! Do you know what is like to be a witch raised in an orphanage?! I was abandoned by my own parents and rejected by those who were supposed to help me! It's not my fault if I there was no one to teach me how to control my powers. I never hurt anyone and yet everyone was afraid of me. Can you imagine how it's like to grow up like that? With no friends, no love, no one who cares about you?! You humans think you are so much better than us. You treat us like we're monsters or have an infectious disease. Now you will see what a real monster is. I will kill every single human and make them pay for what they did to me!"

"You're crazy..." I murmured.

She laughed. "Guess what? I am crazy, but you were the ones who made me be crazy!" she snapped. "But don't worry Lisa," she said in a calm tone. "I know you're not like them. I will spare you. I think. Besides, we never know when I will need you."

After taking all the blood she could, Eleonor called her henchman to take me back to my cell. I almost passed out from the blood loss and couldn't stand up, so he had to pick me up. Surprisingly, instead of throwing me over his shoulder me, like as it was expected, he gently carried me in his arms.

Soon, a chill went through my body as I felt the cold concrete of my cell underneath me. My eyes and body finally gave up and I fell unconscious.
