Busted
Seven days passed. I know it because I would have my blood drawn every day. Unlike the other prisoners, I have been fed properly. Captain Weirdo would bring me breakfast, lunch and dinner every day.
I was starting to give up hope on anyone finding me. Emily was right. No one would come for me, even if they wanted to. I needed to take matters into my own hands and find a way to get out of here.
I was in a good place to act since I was fed and went upstairs every day, which means that in theory, I could find something that could help us get out of there. In reality, that was impossible as I was always tied to the restraining chair.
I could try to convince Eleonor to let me sit on the chair without being tied down, but she would never allow me to. She would see right through my plan and even if she didn't she would never leave me alone in that room.
This brings to my other plan: feeding Emily. We talked about it, but she was reluctant. I needed more time to convince her, however, I didn't know how much longer my body would keep up. Even though they fed me well, there's still so much food can do when you lose a considerable amount of blood every day.
I might start being anemic and once that happens I would not be able to give my blood to her and carry out the plan.
Then there's another problem: she might feel sick afterward like Adrian did, so I had to try figuring the best time for her to drink my blood. Based on my calculations the time was now.
"Emily, please do it."
"I told you I might kill you."
"And I told you, you won't. I trust you and your self-control."
I extended my arm through the bars and after a little hesitation, Emily grabbed it. She slowly approached her mouth to my wrist and pierced it with her fangs.
I felt my blood be slowly drained. As Emily tasted more and more blood, she sucked harder and harder. So hard that it hurt.
"Emily," I called, once I felt I was at my limit, but she didn't stop.
"EMILY!" I cried, and like a switch, she released my arm, letting it fall to the ground.
"I-I'm so sorry Lisa," she finally said as a mixture of shock, fear and regret covered her face.
"It's okay, you stopped." I smiled retrieving my arm from her cell. "Do you feel stronger?"
"A lot stronger. Thank you. Now, what should we do?"
"We wait. I'll sleep and recover and tomorrow after they take me we act."
"I'll wait until the henchman goes away to attack. I can't take him on alone, but I definitely can take that witch."
"Yes. But first, you should free the others. After you free me, I'll get the mermaid up here, so she can get all the water she needs."
"In the meantime, the werewolf should recover while he eats your food."
"Leftovers. I need to eat to recover too, otherwise, they'll know something is up. But even the leftovers should help."
"Yes. He won't be strong but at least he'll be strong enough to move."
"Exactly."
"There's also a silver stake in one of the drawers up there. They used it to pin me down when they were draining my blood. You have to take it as protection before you leave that room."
I nodded in agreement. "We have a plan."
"And a good one for that matter. I actually believe we're going to pull this off."
"I hope we will. Now, if you excuse me, I feel really weak," I said as I laid down to sleep.
"See you tomorrow." She smiled.
"See you tomorrow."
Like any other morning, I woke up to the sound of keys jingling. I sat up to see the face that had become familiar.
"Good morning," I greeted him with a fake smile. "How was your night? Did you sleep well?"
He glared at me with his deadly eyes before placing the tray of food on the ground.
"Don't want to talk? That's fine by me."
He turned around and left my cell, carefully locking it before walking away.
"See you later," I yelled to provoke him.
I was hungry but only ate the amount of food necessary to trick my stomach into feeling full. There was still a ham sandwich, some cookies, and water left for the werewolf.
As expected a few hours later my dear friend was back to take me to my daily rendez-vous with Eleonor. As he pushed me out of my cell I quickly glanced at Emily, who was successfully faking her weakness.
I walked down the humid corridor, walked up the stairs and sat in the restraining chair. I was already used to the process. I placed down my arms carefully hiding the fang marks on my left arm and turning my right arm to give Eleonor access to my veins.
Captain Weirdo tied the wrist and ankle straps and left the room like he always did. Not once did he witnessed what happens in this room, or so said Eleonor. Speaking of which, I soon heard her stilettos approaching the room.
"Good morning Lisa." She gave me a bright smile and I felt sick.
"Hi."
"A little bird told me you didn't finish your breakfast today."
"I wasn't feeling well, I didn't have much appetite."
"Now, now Lisa, you know you have to eat otherwise you'll be useless to me."
"Maybe we should have more time between sessions. I think I'm starting to get anemic."
"That would be a great idea, however, I need your blood now. But I'll see if your anemic or not."
She prepped my arm like many times before and like many times before I felt the needle pierce my skin. However, this time the piercing sensation came over and over again. I looked at Eleonor and saw a scowl on her face.
I jumped as she threw the needle at the ground and pushed the rolling cart full of medical material against the wall as she let out a frustrated scream.
"I can't get the vein."
"It's okay, we can try it later," I tried to convince her as I knew Emily was probably already on her way.
"No! We'll do it now."
She untied the wrist strap of my left arm to turn it upwards revealing the mark of Emily's fangs.
"What the hell is that!?" she shouted before slapping me across the face. "You will pay for this and so will that little bitch!"
She called Captain Weirdo and I couldn't focus on his name or anything that was happening. My sole and only thought was Emily and her safety, but soon screams full of pain brought me back to reality.
I was still sitting in the chair with Eleonor collecting my blood while Emily's screams filled the room.
"What are you doing to her?" I asked as tears began to roll down my face.
"Punishing her. Don't worry you'll join your friend soon."
She wasn't lying, once she finished what she was doing, she started slapping and punching me. It was painful, but she wasn't strong enough. I could handle that, and I wasn't going to let a single scream out. Oh no, I wasn't going to give her that satisfaction. After a while, she was panting and stopped. She murmured a sequence of random and meaningless words.
My body was burning from the inside and it felt like my skin was being peeled out leaving me in raw flesh. The pain was excruciating, and I couldn't help to scream as the tears burned my eyes.
I didn't know how long it took for me to pass out and for the pain to go away. The only thing I knew is that I was back to my cold and humid cell, glued to the floor, weak and sore.
I sat against the wall and looked to my right to see how Emily was doing, but the only thing I saw was a concrete wall. I looked left and saw the dried mermaid laying on the floor.
"Like your new neighbor?" a dark voice spoke.
I looked up to see Captain Weirdo smirking at me.
I didn't answer, and he proceeded to taunt me, "You sure were silly to think you could escape, but I give you props for trying."
"You were just lucky if Eleonor didn't need to use my other arm we would have succeeded."
"You're so naïve." He chuckled. "Your little friend was busted as soon as she set foot outside of her cell."
"What did you do to her?"
"Nothing you want to know."
"How long have I been unconscious?"
"Two days. Now come on, get up, she wants you."
I tried to do as I was told but didn't have the strength. He let out a sigh and opened the cell to pick me up and carry me to the same old room. He put me down on the chair and tied me up as he always did and went out to call Eleonor. This time, however, he came back to the room with her. For the first time, he was going to see her doing what she does best – collecting the blood of her prisoners.
I was seeing my blood going through the plastic tube and feeling weaker every second when a strong noise caught everyone's attention.
"Go see what's going on," Eleonor ordered and Captain Weirdo left the room.
I heard him running back and sooner than I thought I saw him passing the doorframe. "We have to go Eleonor. We're being attacked," he warned.
"Shit. How on earth did they find us?!"
"It doesn't matter. We have to go, they're too many."
"Grab the blood bags from the cooler, I can't lose them." She ordered as she got up to take a gym bag stored in the cabinet.
He left as quickly as he came, followed by Eleonor.
I was left alone with my blood being drained and feeling as if I was close to passing out.
I heard more noise – glass breaking, metal falling and grunting – followed by heavy steps coming in my direction. I looked up to be greeted by a familiar face.
"Oh god, Lisa. Are you okay?" Levy asked removing the needle attached to my body.
"I'm fine," I bleated. "There are others downstairs. They're hurt. Go help them."
He nodded and gently stroke my face. "Adrian, I've found her," he called, and he was quickly replaced by the person I had the urge to see.
He gently detached me from the chair and assessed the marks on my body. "Look at what they did to you. I'm so sorry." He kissed my forehead and picked me up, bridal style, and carried me out of the room.
I slowly closed my eyes and drifted into unconsciousness in the safety of his arms.
