TWENTY

Lorelei followed carefully unsure of what to expect in terms of conversation once they were actually inside, the door creaked slightly as Glenn opened it. As soon as the woman walked in she caught Rick's eye. Lorelei swallowed, the mans gaze always having an intensity beyond description, not knowing what to say with a room full of people she turned her attention away.

As soon as the door shut the questions commenced "Where'd you get the gun?" Michonne asked the former Sherriff who occupied the floor.

Before he could answer Carol spoke, "You took it, right?" Carol finished for him with a questioning tone, but something about the expression the older woman shared with Rick told Lorelei she knew a lot more than she was letting on, "From the armory? That was stupid. Why did you do it?"

"Just in case." Rick answers not bothering to go into further detail.

"Deanna's planning to have a meeting tonight. For anyone who wants to." Glenn said informing the group.

"To kick Rick out?" Questioned Abraham.

"They're most likely gonna try." Lorelei guessed.

"We don't know that." Glenn replied, though his voice sounded unsure, "Maggie's with Deanna right now. She's gonna find out what it is."

Lorelei shook her head, "They don't like violence, here they're protected, completely foreign to the concept, and what happened yesterday, they won't understand why you did it, and they're not gonna take it well."

"At the meeting," Carol started, "You say you were worried about someone being abused and no one was doing anything about it. You say you took a gun just to be sure that Jessie was safe from a man who wound up attacking you. You say you'll do whatever you want them to. Just tell them a story that they want to hear."

"Just like you've been doing since you got here." Lorelei finished, the woman looked to her with surprise, however she really didn't seem to care that Lorelei knew what game she was playing. Lorelei glanced around, all of the others holding the same subtly surprised expression at the woman observation, "You all seem to forget I was in the barn, and unlike Aaron who's too nice for his own good, I'm very observant."

That seemed like a good enough answer because with that the conversation moved forward, "Why?" Michonne asked referring to Carols plan.

"Because these people are children and children like stories." Carol answered bluntly.

"What happens after all the nice words and they still try to kick him out?" Abraham asked doubtful of the plan.

"They're guarding the armory now." Rick stated informing everyone.

"We still have knives. That's all we'll need against them." Carol said before glancing at Lorelei, "How good are you with knives?"

"Better than you'd think," Lorelei answered.

"Well, tonight at the meeting," Rick started, "If it looks like it's going bad, I whistle. Carol grabs Deanna, I take Spencer, you grab Reg, Glenn, Abraham, and Lorelei cover us, watch the crowd." Lorelei sucked in a shaky breath, she didn't want to hurt these people they may be ignorant, but they didn't deserve to die, at least most of them didn't.

"We can talk to them." Michonne insisted.

"Yeah, we will. If we can't get through, we take the three of them and say we'll slit their throats." Rick said.

"Like at Terminus?" Glenn retorted with disappointment drawing a look of confusion from the newest member of the group. Glenn noticed and looked at her, "Be glad you don't know," he said causing the girl to withdrawal any question, she didn't need anymore visuals to fuel her nightmares.

"No, we just tell 'em. They give us the armory and it's over." Rick replied.

There was slight hesitation before Glenn asked, "Did you want this?"

"No. I hit my limit. I-I screwed up. And here we are." He paused in frustration, "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm just gonna sleep some more." He finished silently telling everyone to get out.

They all followed his request except Lorelei who felt inclined to stay. Once the door shut and it was just the two of them Lorelei spoke first, "So how'd you really get the gun?"

Rick rolled around to face her and sighed, "What do you mean?"

Lorelei moved to sit next to the man where he laid and looked at him, "I mean it was obvious it was taken from the armory, however I find it very hard to believe that you managed to take it without drawing attention to yourself, considering your one of the people from the group that this communities the most focused on."

Once that statement came out of her mouth Rick knew he couldn't lie anymore, because she was right and she knew it. "Carol took it." He confessed.

The woman simply nodded, "Now that makes a lot more sense."

"Your not gonna ask me why?" Rick asked looking at her curiously. He was surprised she was so calm about the whole thing.

"I know why," she shrugged, "it's pretty obvious," they both sat in a comfortable silence for a moment before the girl spoke again, "I checked on Carl."

"Yeah, how's he doing?" Rick asks a expression of worry and regret taking over his face.

"He's okay, he's just worried about what happens next." Lorelei said causing Rick to let out a disappointed sigh, this was his fault. "You know he asked me to stay over?" Lorelei asked, trying to steer there conversation in a less depressing direction, "Said he didn't like the quiet, so I talked to him a while, then he went to bed."

"What'd you guys talk about?" The man asked curiously.

"You, our group," She chuckled, "His hat."

"Our group?" He questioned, his lips seeming to curl slightly at the words.

"Yeah," she replied nonchalantly, "Don't make it a thing." she said actually causing the man to actually let out a small laugh as his hand found its way on top of hers, his expression forming into something more serious.

"Think I did the right thing, about Pete? About the meeting, what I said we might do?" The man asked.

The girl sighed, turning over more to face, him, "Right thing, poor execution?" she said with uncertainty in her voice, "Honestly, Rick I don't know, It might cause a lot of problems, but no one was dealing with it and something had to be done, so maybe- right decision morally but shitty decision for you, that's the best I got, sorry I know it doesn't help." she apologized wanting to do more to console him.

"Yeah it's alright." He said his voice softening as he brought a hand and brush a loose piece of hair from the woman's face. His hand lingering longer than necessary.

It seemed to amaze him how soon the warm feeling in his chest appeared when he looked at the girl. After months of paranoia and fighting the man feared from himself, and his heart, he felt himself turning cold as time went on. He could see it in the looks from other, his son and friends who feared the same thing, scared that he might go to far, but she seemed to bring him back to reality before it was too late, reminding him that there was still hope to be had, even if she didn't know it.

And with that feeling the need to have her grew stronger, so he did the only thing he could to cure his growing desire and leaned in to press his lips against hers. Lorelei hadn't been at all surprised by the mans actions and sighed as she let all the tension leave her body, relishing in the moment, because she knew it wouldn't always be this simple.

If she only knew how much more complicated things would get maybe she would have taken things further.

After another moment Lorelei eased their lips apart breathlessly looking to the man who seemed to be in the same tousled condition she now was. She suck in a deep breath before she let the words fall from her lips, "First I spend the night alone in your bed, and now we're making out in someone's unfinished living room, there's gotta be irony in there somewhere." She finished eliciting a huff of a laugh from the man beside her.

The two kept each others gazes for as long as possibly before the moment inevitably slipped through there fingers and Lorelei sighed in disappointment, "I have to go keep watch at the gate, but I'll see you at the meeting later?" she asked.

"Yeah, Ill be there"

"Okay, them Im off." The woman said before getting up and leaving the man once alone to be consumed by silence.
