Strange

Goodness gracious me,
You'd never believe
The story of
A little girl I've seen.

I was breezing through the park,
Bored and all alone,
When a mother sat down,
Eyes glued to her phone.

Her daughter stood up
And wandered away.
I followed her briefly,
To make sure she was safe.

We walked to that pond,
The little one with the geese,
And she laid on the cement
And stared at the trees.

Her eyes were wide open,
They glimmered with hope.
Her mouth opened and closed
Was she praying? Hell nope.

Her voice bobbed up and down,
Faint, but still there.
Her words were soft and light,
As they breezed through the air.

She was having a conversation
With an invisible friend.
Talking about glitter,
I walked away then.

When I got home
I couldn't help but remember
The little girl
And her inattentive family member.

With a mother like that
No wonder she's all on her own.
But with your imagination
You're never truly alone.

They say I'm weird
When I talk to myself.
They say that I'm crazy,
That it's a cry for help.

I think I love it,
They think it's strange,
But I don't care,
I've no reason to change.
