Chapter Three

It had been about three days since Colm had managed to take me hostage, I should have guessed the smart ass would have known we were coming. I wriggled in my rope binds as they hurt greatly, the sound of a door opening and the blast of cold air told me Colm was back.

"Let me out Colm, its only a matter of time before Dutch finds me and kills you like he killed your brother," I snarled refusing to lose my hope for Dutch and the others, Colm chuckled as he knelt down before me so he could look me in the eyes.

"You always did have a spirited temper Grace, you know, you could join my gang and you wouldn't ever be forgotten like Dutch has forgotten you," he explained his voice filled with amusement as I growled, his lies would not fool me.

"Dutch hasn't forgotten me, and your lies are pathetic, you leave anyone too weak to move behind and just replace them the moment another man with a gun comes by," I spat glaring at him as he walked around, I heard a chuckle rumble in his throat.

"Come on Grace, I really don't want to have to kill you, I know how much you mean to Dutch," he muttered, anger burned in his eyes which after what I have seen so far was never good.

"You Colm are a stupid man, when I get free, which I will, I am going to drive a knife into your chest and watch you choke as blood flows from your worthless body," I growled, his glare sent shivers down my spine but I never let my brave face leave me.

"I can't decide if you are stupid or brave, both of which won't help you once I'm done with you," he snapped, he began to walk closer holding a knife and I didn't even struggle to try and get free. If I played my cards right Colm would be left dazed and I would be free, a stinging sensation ran across my face and I flinched but didn't scream. Blood flowed down a large cut he had done across my right eye narrowly missing the fragile skin of the eyeball itself, I could see his anger but that was soon replaced with a smirk that caused my brave face to completely shatter.

"Oh how I didn't realise this sooner, I have the greatest sniper and prettiest woman sitting before me at my disposal, let's see how you react to a far more....... emotional torture," he chuckled as he cut my feet free and dragged me from the chair by my hair, I thrashed about trying to get free as my fear grew. Gunshots outside made Colm freeze, my fear clouded my judgement and I rammed myself against Colm's side causing him to grunt and let go. I turned to flee when I felt myself scream as a knife was driven into the back of my leg, collapsing to one knee I tried to stand as the door was slammed open. A shadow covered my face as I felt my vision grow dizzy, I knew Colm had taken off by now as I was picked up. The dark wooden room turned bright and cold too quickly for my eyes to handle, I squeezed them shut for a moment before opening them to see Dutch himself holding me as he placed me gently on the back of a horse making sure to keep me from falling as he mounted up behind me. I felt myself relax knowing I was safe now, the warm liquid flowing down my leg was ignored as I felt myself drift into unconsciousness.

I awoke to find myself alone in a cabin, my leg was wrapped which had me confused as what happened after I fell unconscious was a blur. Sitting up I rubbed my stinging eye knowing Colm had only just missed his chance of making me half blind, with a sigh I examined my leg closer. I shivered when the door opened slowly and carefully, looking sideways towards it I noticed Abigail. From her expression they had found John in my absence which was good, I beckoned her over as I leant back against the cold wooden wall.

"It's good to see you awake Grace," she whispered as she sat beside me, I nodded and sighed.

"The boys found me just in time, I can't even bare to think of what Colm was planning on doing with me," I muttered shuddering at the thoughts, shaking them off I noticed Abigails sympathetic expression.

"It's alright now Grace, Dutch was mighty worried when you went missin' ya know," she chuckled softly, I rolled my eyes with a slight smirk.

"Pfft, don't make me blush, plus, me and him is impossible, Molly will have my head if I even tried," I mumbled with a sigh, Abigail shook her head with a chuckle as she stood to leave.

"I thought the same with John when I first met him and other girls had their eyes on him, ya never know, strange things happen," she whispered before leaving and closing the door gently, I began to run her words through my head. Dutch wasn't more than a brother, Molly stood a far better chance than I did. The sound of the door opening again and the smell of food made my stomach growl, Colm hadn't fed me when I was kept against my will in that filthy cabin.

"Good to see you awake," came a soft and familiar voice, looking up I noticed Arthur and Dutch standing in the doorway. I raised an eyebrow but seeing the food my mind went childish and I reached my arms for it causing the boys to chuckle, pouting I flexed my fingers before they finally gave it to me.

"You are skin and bones, Jesus woman didn't that inbred asshole feed you!?" Arthur chuckled, I shook my head as I quickly devoured the food.

"Nah he kept me locked in a fancy room with all the food I could eat," I chuckled placing the plate down, the boys chuckled again before both pulled me in for a hug. I loved when the boys got all soft, it reminded me of when we were kids. For the rest of the day we chatted about all the stupid things we used to do, I just hoped nothing would ever change.
