Branch and Poppy are happily married, and they had three beautiful children together. One girl, two boys. But as the years went by, they had realizations that they were beginning to struggle.
A war was approaching, and troll village was turning into a mess with all the chaos. Poppy nor Peppy could calm the whole village down.
Many trolls, even females, went into the war, saying their goodbyes to their loved ones, in case they didn't return, leaving their families to mourn.
But something happened that Poppy would have never expected to happen. And to this day, it tears her apart.
"And the little troll ran all the way-"
"Hey, um, Pops?"
Poppy stopped reading her scrapbook and turned to her husband, who had a look of concern on his face.
"Yes?"
"Can we um.. talk? Alone?" He muttered the last part.
"Oh, of course." Poppy looked at her three children, who were staring in confusion.
"You guys go play, okay? Me and daddy need to have an important discussion."
"Okay mommy." Elina, their daughter replied, and she hopped off of her mother's lap, as their two sons, Julius and Oliver followed.
Poppy looked up at Branch and smiled, patting the open spot next to her.
Branch hesitantly sat down, sighing a bit shakily.
"Is everything okay, hon?"
"I.. um.. I'm not sure.."
Poppy sighed, taking his hand and rubbing it gently.
"I know you're nervous about the war, but we already have it taken care of.. as long as we stay together we should be just fi-"
"It's not just about that."
Poppy tilted her head in a bit of confusion, wondering what he meant exactly.
"What are you talking about?"
Branch closed his eyes and swallowed the lump in his throat, sighing heavily.
Poppy cupped Branch's cheek noticing his tense behavior.
"Branch, tell me what's wrong, please.. I-"
"I'm going into war."
Poppy's eyes widened, and she slowly removed her hand from his cheek, feeling like her heart just stopped.
From behind a nearby wall, their kids were listening into the conversation, feeling confused but nervous. They were young but old enough to understand emotions, and it seemed like this wasn't going to end well.
"What..? What did you.. oh my god please tell me you're joking." Poppy backed away from him, not wanting any of this to be true.
Branch looked down at the floor, shaking his head slowly.
"I wish I could say I was.. but I already signed up for it. I can't go back."
"Branch.. no.. no! You can't.. you just can't! What.. what about the kids? What about.. me? What if you die?!" Poppy was no longer able to control her breathing, her tears dominating her eyesight.
"They'll have an amazing mother to be accompanied by," Branch smiled, taking her hands, but remembered something he wanted to give to her after telling her this, and went through his hair.
"Here. It's a picture of us when we were younger. I found it in drawer when I was packing my stuff to move to my new pod." Branch gave the picture to her and Poppy hesitantly took it, gripping it as the tears fell from her eyes. She looked up at him.
"Oh Poppy.." Branch said in a heartbroken tone, cupping her cheek.
"Why did you do this.. I don't want you to go.." Poppy could barely speak. Her voice cracked constantly and her words mostly came out as whimpers.
"I'm doing it for us, baby," He kissed her cheek softly and nuzzled her nose, "I promise I'll try and stay alive for you and the kids. I love you all so much."
"Branch.."
"I'll never love anyone else but you."
"Branch!"
Poppy was unable to control herself now, and immediately broke down on the floor, sobbing uncontrollably.
Branch did not hesitate to go down with her and bring her into his arms, shushing her and rocking her gently.
The poor children watching now also wanted to cry, but they didn't want their parents knowing they were eavesdropping on their conversation.
Branch was quietly singing to his wife the song he would always sing to her at night while cradling her.
"When I see your face
There's not a thing that I would change 'cause you're amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile
The whole world stops and stares for a while
'Cause girl you're amazing
Just the way you are.." Branch quietly sang in her ear, as her cries became less harsh, and all that was mostly heard from her were whimpers and sniffles.
He pulled away from her and held her cheek gently.
"Hey, look at me." He said, using that same quiet voice, and Poppy slowly looked into his eyes, tears still lingering in hers.
Branch slowly leaned in, still holding her cheek, and pressed his lips against hers gently, feeling Poppy kiss him back, gripping his vest.
They pulled away after one to three minutes and pressed their foreheads against each other, breathing slowly but heavily.
"I have to leave tomorrow.. so I wanna spend as much time with you and the kids as I can."
"That would be nice." Poppy muttered, holding onto him.
Branch smiled and put a small but sweet kiss on her lips, stroking her hair gently.
The three children all looked at each other, scared and worried for not just their father, but their mother. Their father would be gone, and it was making their mother incredibly sad.
Present day
Ever since that day, Poppy had not been herself. She didn't know what singing, dancing, or hugging was anymore. Everyday and night all she thought was Branch, Branch, Branch.
The war was getting close to an end and her husband still hadn't returned, which scared her a lot.
Her friends would constantly come over and try and comfort and spend time with her to help her cope, which it did help, but it wasn't enough. She just needed her love back. Then she would be complete.
She was sitting on her bed in her room one day, flipping through a certain photo book.
She stopped on a certain page and took out the picture Branch gave to her seven years ago the day before he had to leave to the war, and clipped it inside of the book.
The Pink troll smiled for a few minutes, flipping through the book again and coming across more recent pictures, with her, Branch, and their kids, her smile quickly vanishing and being replaced with a sorrowful frown, tears forming in her eyes.
"I miss you.." She said quietly, placing her hand on the picture she was looking at, tears spilling down her cheeks.
She jumped a bit, though, when she heard a small knock at her room door, quickly putting the book away under her pillow and wiping her tears away.
"C-Come in!" Poppy replied to whoever was knocking, clearing her throat.
Opening the door was one of her sons, Julius, who had at first a normal facial expression, but it changed to a gloomy one.
"Hey sweetheart, what's the matter?" She asked, noticing his expression.
"Um.." The eight year old boy nervously rubbed his fingers together, still standing near the door.
"Did something happen?" Poppy now sat criss-cross, putting her hands on her lap.
"Well, no.. um.. I wanna ask you something.. but I don't know if it's right to ask.." Julius said, rubbing his arm.
"Julius.." Poppy scooted off the bed and walked towards him, bending to his height, "you know you can tell me anything."
The teal colored troll began tearing up, failing to hold back the whimpers now escaping the pathaway of his lips.
Poppy saw this and immediately took his hands in hers, squeezing them gently.
"Olive-"
"When's dad coming back?"
Everything stopped.
Everything around her stopped moving. Everything around her stopped making sense. Everything felt out of place.
"I.. I-I.." Poppy let go of her son's hands, letting them drop down to the floor, not even wanting to answer that question.
"Mom..?" Oliver tried to get ahold of his mother's gaze again, which didn't happen until she began to tear up herself, and couldn't gain control of her breathing.
"I don't know.. I'm sorry.. I'm so sorry Oliver.." Poppy lost it right there, and she broke down into tears, gripping the floor in front of her.
"Mom.. don't cry.." The tears in Oliver's eyes finally spilled down his cheeks, and he wrapped himself in his mother's arms, squeezing her tightly.
Poppy wailed and wailed, the memories all flooding back to her. She couldn't take anymore of this. It was nothing but constant thought of him everyday.
After a few minutes, she felt four extra pairs of arms wrap around her, and she looked to see her two other children, caressing her as tight as their brother was.
"Don't cry mommy, daddy will be back someday." Elina buried her head in her mother's chest, nuzzling her.
Oliver didn't say anything, but he showed her as much affection as his siblings were.
Poppy's crying lessened, feeling slightly better from her kids comforting her, but it didn't fix the aching she felt in her heart.
"I love you kids so much.. I really wish your father was here.. he was a good man.." Poppy sniffled, holding her children in her arms, squeezing them tightly and lovingly.

Guy Diamond was looking at himself in the mirror, until he heard a knock at the door.
"Uh, I'm very busy!" He turned around to look at his butt, which was.. of course, glittery and sparkly.
"Oohh yes, work them buns diamond." The glitter troll smirked, but huffed as he heard more knocks at the door.
"Alright, alright, give me a minute!"
He took one last look at his butt before walking over to the door and turned the knob, sighing heavily.
"Who is i-" He stopped talking as he realized who he was looking at, his mouth gaping wide open in shock.
"Heh, hey bud, it's been a long time.." The troll in front of him said, scratching the back of his neck.

"Can I open my eyes nowwww." Poppy whined, squeezing her boyfriend's hand as he guided her along a path.
"A little more patience Pops, we're nearly there." Branch chuckled, squeezing her hand back.
They continued walking for a few more minutes until they arrived in the center of the forest, where a large beautiful scenery was set up.
Branch let go of her hand and walked in front of her, sighing heavily.
"Branch?"
He kneeled down slowly on one knee, taking a small box from his hair.
"You can take off your blind folds."
Poppy took off the facade hiding her eyes away from the scenery of the world, and her eyes immediately widened.
"Poppy, we've been together for so long now, and it's honestly been the best years of my life. But now, I think it's time I take a bigger step. You've made my life so much better and I've learned and experienced so much from you. You showed true happiness when no one else did. You loved me when no one else did. You talked to me when no one else did. And I'm so grateful for all of that. Not even just that, but you're so beautiful and confident and brave, and your voice gives me so many chills.. the good kind. But.. all of this you have given me, has finally led me to ask you.."
Poppy didn't say a word. She just watched him with a hand over her mouth, eyes swelling.
Branch opened the small box he was holding to reveal a small ring with a sapphire in it.
"...Will you marry-"
"YES!! YES YES YES YES!!" Poppy basically jumped in her spot, shaking uncontrollably.
Branch was a bit surprised at first but then smiled wide, and carefully placed the ring on her finger, standing back up.
Poppy tackled her fiance to the ground, hugging him tightly, burying her face in his chest.
Branch just laid there and let her hug him, rubbing her back gently while putting soft kisses on her neck.
"I love you so much, Pops.." He muttered in her neck, holding her close.
"I love you too.. let's stay here awhile.." Poppy insisted, not releasing her face from his chest, sighing in pleasure.
•
"I now pronounce you, king and queen! You may kiss the-"
Poppy didn't even let the priest, who was Fuzzburt, somehow, finish, and jumped into her love's arms, kissing him like there was no tomorrow.
Both of them fell on the floor, not even daring to release from each other's lips, holding each other closer.
"Dang, they be really gettin in!" Cooper said, laughing.
"I've never been more happier," Peppy wiped a tear from his eye, smiling.
"YEAHHH, THAT'S MY BEST FRIEND RIGHT THERE MAKING OUT WITH YOUR QUEEN!!" Guy Diamond yelled, but then DJ climbed onto his shoulders.
"AND THAT'S MY BEST FRIEND MAKING OUT WITH YOUR KING!!" DJ screamed, catching the flowers that Poppy threw to the crowd.
"Oh Mr. Dinkles, aren't they just perfect for each other?" Biggie sobbed, squeezing his pet worm to his chest.
"Meep." Mr. Dinkles wanted some personal space. Biggie wouldn't stop hugging him since the wedding started. And he was getting his tears all over him.
Satin was crying and squealing, Chenille just laid there unconscious on the floor.
Smidge didn't say anything, but she was crying herself an entire ocean.
•
"So, why did you take me all the way out here?"
"It's where we had our first date, silly!" Poppy giggled, holding her now husband's hand.
"I know, but.. you didn't say why. I'm just confused."
"It's a surprise, duhh." She replied again, leading him to a nearby pond, sitting next to it.
"Oh." Was all he responded, and Poppy frowned.
"You don't.. seem very excited." She said in a now disappointed voice.
"No, no, of course not!" Branch took her hands gently, holding them close to him.
Poppy felt a little more confident, and she took a deep breath, preparing herself for Branch's surprise.
"I.. I actually brought you out here to tell you something." Poppy looked into his eyes, squeezing his hands gently.
"Oh.. well, what is it?"
Poppy took another breath, and she held only one of his hands this time.
"Pops?"
The blue troll felt a little confused and uncomfortable when he felt his wife place his hand on her stomach.
"Um.. what're you-"
"I'm pregnant."
Branch's eyes widened, and he felt like everything around him was heaven. He couldn't believe what he just heard.
He was gonna be a father.
"Oh.. oh my.. oh my god.. Poppy.." Branch stared at her in disbelief, not knowing what to say.
Then he started to laugh, tears forming in his eyes.
"I-I can't believe this!!" Branch picked up his wife, spinning her carefully in his arms.
Poppy giggled and watched her husband jump in joy from the news she'd just lent him.
After a bit more cheering and jumping, he put his wife down on the ground gently, tears still pouring down his cheeks.
"I love you.. so much.." Branch croaked out and hugged her, holding her in his arms, not even thinking about letting go.
"I love you too.." Poppy smiled, hugging him back and nuzzling in his neck, kissing it gently.

That was the last memory Poppy had remembered before she finally got herself to stop, shutting down her body for a few hours after all the bawling.
She hoped her daughter was right, that one day her husband would soon come back to her. That was all she ever hoped for now. It was her only birthday present. It was her only christmas present.
But with seven years and almost eight already being passed by, it seemed hopeless now, and there was nothing she do about it but pray.

"
Oh my troll, I can't believe it, you're back!" Guy Diamond was spinning around with Branch in his arms, squealing.
"Yeah yeah, I'm back! Now put me down!" Branch yelled, trying to release from his grip.
Guy dropped him on the ground, overwhelmed by all the excitement overtaking him.
"Oh- sorry."
"Ow." Branch winced, grabbing Guy's hand to stand back up.
"Man, you look really out of shape, do you wanna get cleaned up real quick?"
Branch nodded, taking his back pack off of his back and placing it on the floor against the wall.
"I'll take your hat and jacket." Guy insisted, taking his hat and jacket from him and placing it on a coat rack.
"Thanks. We can talk some more when I'm done." Branch walked to his bathroom, exhaling in exhaustion.
Guy smiled hearing this. He was finally reunited with his best friend after seven years. He would get to hear all the crazy things that happened to him while he was gone.
•
Branch sighed and took off his vest, looking at his dirtied up chest in the mirror before him.
"Seven, whole, years." He muttered, then searched for something in his hair and took it out, which was a small picture of him, Poppy, and his kids.
"Seven years without you.." He sighed, putting the picture down on the sink and walking over to the shower to turn it on.
He thoroughly washed through his hair and the dirt off him, sighing in relief. He finally felt good and clean, more so on the inside, smiling a bit.
•
"Alright, I'm done." Branch looked like himself again, the sarcastic but gleeful troll everyone knew and loved.
"Great!" Guy said, bringing over a tray, which had snacks plattered on it, and sat it down next to both of them.
"Sooo.. what was the war like?" The glitter troll opened a bag of chips.
"Pfft, it was insane." Branch also opened up a bag of chips, somehow feeling more relieved than before. Maybe because he hadn't had a conversation with anyone like this for years.
"Insane how?" Guy was chewing down his chips rapidly, constantly digging for more to shove in his mouth.
"There were so many explosions and gunshots, and trolls were just nonstop yelling. I have no idea how I even made it out of there with all that chaos. I got hit a few times but it wasn't too severe. I just.. never thought that creatures like us could be so violent."
Guy stopped eating for a second and put his bag down.
"Wow.. that is pretty crazy. And yeah, I get what you mean. I've seen some unpredictable things around here too. But if it's worth protecting our village, then a troll is not afraid to get violent."
"Yeah, true. I did end up making a few friends, though. I mean I guess. They accompanied me through the journey. Sad enough I lost two of them. One of them survived. Including me, somehow."
"Well.. I'm grateful that that troll and especially you are alive. With something like that happening trolls could definitely lose their lives." Guy smiled, and the blue troll sitting next to him returned the smile.
"Ohh, and I'm sure Poppy will be very glad to see you too." The glitter troll winked, nudging him playfully, and Branch playfully pushed him away.
"As if I don't know that by now. I'm dying to see her, and my kids." Branch blushed, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Huh? Why haven't you visited them yet?" Guy asked, looking at him puzzled.
"That's.. actually what I came to talk to you about.." Branch looked up at his friend, who's puzzled look turned into a more concerned one now.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
"Nothing, I was just wondering if you'd be willing to help me."
Now his puzzled look returned.
"With wha-"
"I wanna surprise them."

Poppy sighed, cleaning up some of the toys her sons left while playing in the living room, dumping them in their toy box.
"Mommy, mommy!" Elina ran up to her, gently tugging her dress.
Poppy closed the box and turned around and smiled at her five year old daughter.
"Hi sweetie, what're you doing?" She bent down to her height, stroking her hair.
"Look what I made for daddy!"
The lavendar troll held up a drawing of Branch hugging her mother, her brothers, and herself after coming back from being away for so long.
"Oh honey.. it's so beautiful.." She slowly took the drawing from her and looked at it, wiping the corners of her eyes quickly.
"It's for daddy when he comes back." Elina smiled widely, putting her hands behind her back.
Poppy removed the drawing from her sight to look at her daughter, smiling wide as ever. She loved how optimistic she was about her father coming back to them one day. It honestly made her feel better about him coming back someday.
"Come here baby, give mommy a hug." She whimpered out, opening her arms, and her daughter immediately ran into her arms, snuggling into her.
Poppy cried softly, stroking her hair gently as she held her in his arms, kissing her forehead gently.
"Mommy loves you so much Elina." She whimpered out again, rubbing her back now.
"I love you too mommy." Elina said, cuddling against her chest, when she heard a knock at the front door.
"I'll get it!" Julius ran to the front door.
"No, I got it!" Oliver ran after his older brother.
"No no boys, I got it." Poppy stopped them, and she walked up to the door.
"Aww." They both said in disappointment, but still watched her open the door.
"Guess whooooo?" Guy sang in his autotune voice, standing behind a huge gift box.
"Uncle Diamond!!!" All three of Poppy's kids yelled in excitement, running up to him to hug him.
"Hey guys! You all been good to your mom?" Guy smiled and hugged them all back.
"Yeah." They all said, smiling while pulling away from him.
"Hey Guy Diamond." Poppy smiled at him.
"Hey Poppy!" He greeted her back happily.
"Ooooh, what's this?" Julius said, poking the huge gift box in front of him.
"It's for your mother. Well, it's for all of you, but your mother's probably gonna have the biggest reaction." Guy Diamond looked up at Poppy, smiling.
Poppy just looked at him in confusion, but also interest.
"Allow me to just bring it inside."
Guy pushed the heavy package inside of the pod as Poppy closed the door behind him.
"Can I open it?!" Oliver asked.
"Nooo, I'm gonna be opening it. It'll be more special that way." Guy winked at him, and began to peel the tape off of the huge box.
The three kids including Poppy just watched in anticipation and interest, as he slightly struggled to get the box open.
"Uh, do you need any hel-"
"No no, I've got it!"
After finally getting the last piece of tape off the box, he mentally cheered to himself in his head and slowly opened all the flaps of the box.
After a few seconds, a certain blue troll came out of the box, a small and nervous smile on his face.
"Uh.. hey you gu-"
"DADDY!!!" Yelled the three children, tackling their father to the ground.
"Where have you been?! You were gone forever!" Julius said.
"We thought you would never come back!!" Oliver said.
"I missed you sooooooo much!!" Elina said, squeezing his side.
Branch laughed, hugging his children he missed dearly back, then winced a bit.
"Ow ow, not too rough there sweetie, it kinda hurts there-" He gently moved his daughter off a bit, but still held her close.
After a few minutes more of hugging, he got up and carefully put his kids down, now putting his focus on his wife.
Poppy was absolutely stunned. She had no idea of what to do or say. This all felt so unreal. Did her husband just now come out of a box after seven years to greet her once again?
"Poppy.." He smiled sadly, slowly walking up to her, his arms opening every second he walked up to her.
"I..I... Branch.. I.." Poppy held her hand over her mouth, her breathing quickening up by every step he took closer to her.
"Hey, hey, it's me.. I'm here.." Branch took no hesitation to wrap her in his arms, squeezing her tightly.
"B-B.. BRANCH!!!" Poppy wailed out, wrapping her arms around him back, burying her face in his neck, basically clinging on to him.
Branch chuckled quietly, holding her in his arms, rocking her gently and slowly.
"I'm home baby.." He muttered in her ear, kissing the tears away from her cheeks.
"Please tell me this isn't a dream! Oh my god please tell me I'm not dreaming!!" Poppy wrapped her arms around her love like she never did before.
"You're not dreaming." He chuckled quietly again, moving his face away from hers a bit, caressing her cheek.
Poppy stared into his eyes, all the memories of them flooding back to her again, except they didn't make her sad this time. They made her feel at home.
She gripped his vest and pressed her lips against his, letting out the happiest sigh.
Branch gladly kissed her back, moving a few strands of hair away from her face, still rocking her gently.
Guy Diamond stood next to their kids with the biggest smile on his face, noticing the smiles on their faces as well.
After a few minutes they pulled away, but they kept each other's foreheads pressed against one another.
"I missed this.." Branch breathed out, panting lightly.
"Me too.." Poppy breathed back, her eyes half way closed, a smile starting to form on her face.
Branch saw her smile and let out one of his own.
"I missed that too." He said, chuckling.
Poppy playfully hit his shoulder, blushing profusely now. She hadn't smiled this much in seven years. It felt good to be doing it again, especially now that he was back.
"Daddy, daddy look!" Elina suddenly called out for her father, and he carefully put Poppy down, turning his attention to her.
She showed him the drawing she showed Poppy earlier that day, and he smiled wide.
"I made it for you because I knew someday you would come back." Elina smiled a toothy smile.
"That's very sweet of you Lina. And you're drawing is beautiful." He smiled and picked up his daughter, kissing her face multiple times.
"Daddyyy!!" She shrieked and giggled, holding onto him.
"Well, looks like my work here is done, I guess I'll be on my way!" Guy smiled, heading for the door.
"Wait, Guy." Branch said, putting his daughter down and quickly going towards him.
The glitter troll turned around and looked at his friend.
"Yeah?"
"I wanna thank you for helping me out and talking with me earlier. I really appreciate you."
"Oh, it's no problem at all, just doing what friends were made to do, of course!" Guy smiled at him.
"Well, do you maybe want to stay over for a bit? You did help a lot and it would just be wrong for me to send you out."
"Yeah uncle diamond, stay!" Julius playfully punched his side.
"Oh, uhh.. is it alright with Poppy?" Guy asked.
"Of course it is! I was about to start making dinner anyway. You should stay." Poppy smiled.
"FOOD?! I mean uh- thanks Poppy!" The glitter troll quickly cleared his throat.
"Hey Uncle Diamond! You're it!" Oliver tagged him, and he ran to the other room, laughing.
"Wha- ohh you're gonna get it, come back here!" Guy laughed along, chasing him, and Julius and Elina followed suit, joining in the game.
Poppy smiled at them and went over to his husband and kissed his cheek and leaned over to his ear,
"Don't worry, we'll have some alone time later." She whispered, then made her way to the kitchen.
Branch immediately blushed hearing this, but then chuckled afterwards.
He was finally in the comfort of his own home, with the people he loved dearly.
